It's not a typo

In "Glenn Weiss (born 6 September 1961) is an American", there is no need for a comma, because the parentheses are serving a similar purpose. This is a typical format in English-language encyclopedias and academic works, as well as in other English usage situations. It isn't by any means a typo. What is a typo? What is a copyedit?

Typo correction and copyediting are two overlapping concepts. "Typo" means "typographical error". Fixing a typo means that someone else had slopy tpying and you have corrected it.

Copyediting means that you have improved the presentation of the content in a phrase or larger part of an article. Changing "the element turned out to be heavier" to the element was found to be heavier is copyediting, as is typo correction.

Rather than guessing, you may always use "copy edit" or "ce" in your edit summary when fixing a typo or changing spelling, grammar, punctuation, organization, tone, wikilinks or any aspect of an article's wording outside of content, including typos.
