I have not, because I'm not involved. If there are other issues, you should be templating them and reporting them, not reverting, clogging up the page history, and clogging up recent changes. @PointLaVista: Howdy! I added the WP:Wikiproject Florida tag to the talk page, so it should be listed there soon. For citations, it's usually a longer process. You have the references, which all appear good, so the two things I would recommend are A) add more inline citations (you can see how to do this at WP:INLINE and B) add more accessible references. By accessible references, I mean ones that can be accessed and verified by other editors. I don't doubt that you have access to the books and articles you cite, but adding links to their Google Books page or copies that are available on the Internet Archive would go a long way.

Oftentimes, the citation needed template will stay there for several months before somebody who volunteers in that area happens upon your article. As long as y'all keep making the quality improvements you have been, I don't think there will be any problems. You can also reach out to the editor who added the template to see if they have more specific feedback. ThadeusOfNazereth^{Talk to Me!} 21:38, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Zhong ST, Wikipedia is a conglomerate of what reliable sources say. For us, it isn't a question of whether Aung San Suu Kyi should be in power, it's a question of if she actually is. Her arrest has been condemned by the international community (which is reflected in the section discussing her arrest and the coup) and while you and I can agree that she is surely the rightful leader of Myanmar, the reality of the situation is that she is no longer in charge. I hope that you are safe, and I want you to know that there are millions of people around the world who support you and your people's struggle for freedom. Point La Vista Cape (Jacksonville) - Newly Published Starter Article

Thaddeus: You classified Point La Vista Cape as a starter article in January with a need for more citations. We updated and added Citations. I do not understand the reclassification as an "orphan article" by Editors Gronk Oz and AnomieBOT. It is indeed the first in-depth study of this geographically distinct neighborhood in the city of Jacksonville FL. Prior to this it was buried in "Southside". The references have no errors of which we are aware. The content and citations have been reviewed. What do you make of this? Please advise. An orphan article is an article that isn't linked to by any other article - That just lets people know to be on the lookout for articles that could link to. Orphan articles have much lower readership because they can only be found by searching for the subject specifically, instead of stumbling across it when reading about a related topic. It's the position of the Iranian government and reliable sources that the names can be used interchangeably. Wikipedia isn't a venue for personal opinions on whether the correct name should be Persia or Iran, and I don't have an opinion either way because I am neither Persian or Iranian. Epictrex

See the whole section, at their talk, and then some of the diffs for the deleted stuff from their talk. I've tried to be helpful with them, but at some point they need to help themselves. I get the feeling they are either very young or older than the internet revolution, and WP:CIR may be a consideration. As I mentioned to them, I'm about to become very busy IRL very soon, and until sometime in August, so I wont be here much. If they do not begin to grok some stuff soon, other editors may not be as patient with them as I have tried to be. If you want to help them out, feel free. Heiro 03:56, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

Something new

Remember this IP from a few days ago that was almost certainly EPICTREX logged out? And this new IP you just reverted a bit ago? The IP added the material back, and then Epitrex logs in to remove it. Guess where both IPs geolocate to? The exact same place, Sparks, Nevada. So does this IP. Epictrex is having an editwar on History of Nevada with either himself or some meatpuppets between his named accout and 2 IPs. Heiro 23:17, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

@Heironymous Rowe: Good catch - It may be worth opening an investigation at WP:SPI if problems continue (although given that it's escalated to edits much closer to vandalism, it might be good to get ahead of it at SPI. I'm not 100% sure how that process works, however). Either way, I added that article to my watchlist + will keep an eye on contributions from those IPs and accounts. IP addresses

Hi! Those IP addresses are not from me. The fact that they’re both from a town called Sparks in Nevada is purely coincidental. I haven’t been in my Wikipedia account until today. I was just looking through Wikipedia and decided I wanted to check out the “History of Nevada” page when I saw a weird edit about Mayans in Nevada. Because there is no evidence of such a claim, and because no sources were cited, I undid their edit. I do not believe that the Mayans were in Nevada. Epictrex (talk) 00:44, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

You "just happened" to log in and check that article a minute after it was vandalized with content similar to things that coincidentally you yourself have posted in other articles. Edits are time stamped. But it's not just that those 2 IPS geolocate to Sparks Nevada, so does the one you used to vandalize Thadeus and my talk page on the 11th. Do you know what the odds are that all of that is a massive coincidence? If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, you know what? It's not a turtle, mate. It's a duck. re: your close of The Federalist

Hi, ThadeusOfNazereth - I've been reviewing the comments accompanying the iVotes at the RfC, and a substantial number of the ivotes to downgrade include either misinformation, or misinterpretation of facts vs opinion, or favor a partisan view; quite a few simply mirror others. I can present examples, beginning with the misinterpretation of the very 1st iVote. Of course, I'm not perfect, so it's quite possible that I may have misinterpreted something that you may be able to shed some light on for me. Are you open to discussion? @Atsme: Yeah, I'm open to that for sure, and I'd definitely rather see if we can't figure it out here instead of going straight to WP:ANI. I don't know - I'd like for us to have a meeting of the minds, and see what happens. I'm never steadfast unless I'm absolutely sure, and that isn't the case right now. So let's start with the 1st iVote, and my perception of what took place from there to the 6th iVote.

• It started out being based primarily on this source. Key indicators to me when determining opinion vs fact is context beginning with As of this writing, it appears that.... The author is telling his readers right then and there that it may not be so BUT it appears to be, which is opinion and he qualifies with "As of this writing" so it's a dated opinion that tells readers it could change. His conclusion is also qualified in a similar manner. What was presented in the iVote was taken out of context and presented as fact: ...the only possible conclusion one can come to right now is that Democrats are trying to steal the election in the Midwest. In context we see that comment prepended by the following (my bold underline): Unless election officials in Michigan and Wisconsin can explain the overnight vote-dumps and, in Michigan, the “typo” that appeared to benefit Biden, and Pennsylvania officials can explain their rationale for counting ballots with no postmark,... which makes it a qualified opinion. The author's comments simply raised suspicion about perceived improprieties in the election but that's just good reporting. He simply laid out what he felt was concerning and worthy of mention, and left it to his readers to decide. That is normal and even expected in any election if we are to ensure election integrity. That is not false reporting or bad reporting.

  The next 4 iVotes are simply opinions with nothing to support them. The 6th iVote alleges falsehoods and attempts to discredit the source by including an incident involving its co-founder. The argument also wikilinks to a WP article (which is an unreliable source), adds a New Yorker link because they changed "COVID-19" to "the Wuhan virus". When we read the left-leaning NYorker article we see a partisan POV, and unqualified opinions about COVID at a time when few scientists/doctors/researchers even knew a great deal about it themselves, and they're still uncovering new information. That isn't a reason to downgrade the source. I'm of the mind that no news source should be trusted with health/medical information and that applies across the board; science/medicine and the like should be cited per WP:MEDRS. My perception of the iVotes is that they are a split down a partisan line with nothing of substance to warrant downgrading the publication. I'll stop there, and give you a chance to respond. @Atsme: I read the discussion at the time and again after your first post here to refresh my memory of that back-and-forth, because a lot of the arguments on the "keep" side were predicated on what constitutes a statement of fact. You're right that "it appears that" can serve as a qualifier, making the rest of the article opinion. In this case, though, there are a couple issues with that: First, it's in direct contrast with the title of the article, "Yes, Democrats Are Trying To Steal The Election In Michigan, Wisconsin, And Pennsylvania", which is a clear statement of fact. Second, there's no distinction that any of this is explicitly opinion writing - As JzG noted several times in the discussion, The Federalist seems to exist solely as a mouthpiece for political opinions, and yet that's not clarified anywhere on the website. Same goes for the conclusion: Yes, there's a qualifier that "Unless election officials in Michigan and Wisconsin can explain," but this only comes after 800 words of arguing that election fraud has indisputably been taking place, found out only by the courageous Twitter followers of another Federalist writer.

The next four iVotes aren't great, but they're still explaining their reasoning. My assumption when reviewing these is that they're indicating agreement with the nominator's analysis, and as far as I'm aware voters are not required to craft their own unique arguments if somebody else has said something they agree with 100%. For the sixth iVote, I didn't take into account the allegation against the co-founder since it didn't seem relevant to the discussion at hand, but their point about COVID-19 misinformation and the explicitly partisan editing of articles to be more provocative were both validly explained reasons for their vote. On the COVID-19 misinformation point, you're right that news sources shouldn't be trusted with medical information over other sources, however, in establishing the reliability of a point the type of medical information they prioritize is worth consideration (For example, their publication of an article by an unlicensed dermatologist advocating for infection parties). If the New Yorker was an explicitly partisan source, your comment about it might have merit, but the big difference here is that WP:RSP considers it "generally reliable...Editors note the publication's robust fact-checking process."

At the end of the day, however, I based my decision off consensus, and the consensus to downgrade The Federalist was overwhelming. I didn't think there were any policy violations in the votes at the time, and my opinion on that hasn't changed. As it stands, almost everything you've said here was said in the discussion, and was unconvincing to the other editors taking part. You're more than welcome to request closure review at WP:ANI (the last thing I want is there to be a sour taste left in anybody's mouth), but I don't think it would end up going anywhere. Thank you for your input, ThadeusOfNazereth. Following are my final thoughts:

1. WP:Headlines - the headline is a clickbait headline, not a clear statement of fact. It was further qualified in the article as opinion; therefore, thinking that the body text is not opinion because it is "in direct contrast with the title of the article" should not have factored into your close at all. We don't give any weight to headlines or subheadlines, especially by political analysts/editors. We also shouldn't be eliminating entire sources because an author expressed doubt, asked questions and wanted answers about some of the inconsistencies of an election. We wouldn't have any sources left if we did that across the board.
2. "Second, there's no distinction that any of this is explicitly opinion writing" - the author is a political editor, which means he writes political analysis; his job description, along with context and content of his articles are the distinctions, and you should already be aware of that if you're closing discussions about controversial political sources. Political editors are not investigative reporters, news journalists, news anchors, or correspondents - there's a big difference between all of them. I think your evaluation of the author's writing is incorrect.
3. Guy must not have seen this introduction, or this list of contributors. I'd be inclined to call it a "conservative platform" funded by subscriptions, a splash of clickbait, and advertising which is how most online media is funded today. The site states they are "a wholly independent division of FDRLST Media, LLC. I can only guess that Guy must have been looking for information based on the old-fashioned business model of print media which is slowly being replaced by decentralized online networks and independent websites. The credibility of The Federalist's articles should probably depend more on the credentials of the individual contributors. In this case, Davidson's writings have been published by WSJ, The Guardian, National Review, and Texas Monthly, among others.
4. As for the 4 other iVotes, expressing one's opinion about a source without evidence to support that opinion is kinda like an aspersion isn't it? If I'm closing, I'd want to see some strong evidence that supports each criticism because we're talking about downgraded an entire source, and it would be sad if the reason for doing so is based on an IDONTLIKEIT partisan consensus. Here's an article I highly recommend reading because it speaks to consensus (when there, use your Find feature, keyword search "hegemony").
5. Re: The New Yorker - you said WP:RSP considers it "generally reliable...Editors note the publication's robust fact-checking process." - the same way The Federalist was considered unreliable? First of all, WP:RSP is not above essay status - it doesn't even have guideline status and for good reason. The RSP process was begun by a couple of editors, and it has not been vetted by the wider community. Also keep in mind that WP:RS is a guideline, not a policy. Many of the ratings at RSP are were decided despite limited participation at the RSN discussions, some of which were the result of requests for the inclusion of specific material. Some of the results could be considered rather partisan in nature. IOW, it is a flawed system but we're using it for lack of something better.
6. ...the consensus to downgrade The Federalist was overwhelming. - I would agree if we were counting iVotes.

With all due respect, I think you did your best but got in a little over your head with this RfC. I would think that a caution rating for The Federalist is appropriate with a note that reliability is best determined by the credibility of the author of a particular article, so author & context matters most. The admins at AN may very well uphold your position but I think it's in our best interests to ask for a review because of the nature of that source, and what appears to be a split down partisan lines resulting from unsupported criticism, as I pointed out above. Not all iVotes were politically motivated because quite a few of us are actually die-hard pragmatists. Let's hope a pragmatic administrator can find the time to conduct a review. Your close was spot on, IMO. It is unfortunate that some editors cannot see beyond the seductive appeal of false balance. The opposite of mainstream is not conservative, the opposite of mainstream is fringe, and when site position themselves squarely in opposition to the mainstream, that puts them equally squarely in the fringe. The fact that the right in America increasingly adopts a completely counterfactual narrative on current events is a problem for Wikipedia, but we don't fix it by treating obvious bad faith argument as equivalent to reality. Hello ThadeusOfNazereth,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

@Pilaz Oh dear, I see that too. I have no clue how that happened either. There was a problem when I nominated the page for deletion using the Page Curation Tool - I probably should've reset Cooke's page and tried re-nominating it. I also can't figure out how to delete it - It's not showing up on the AFD page for Ian Marsh or Roman Packo, and it also doesn't show up if I try to edit the source manually. @Lucysj You absolutely can use an interview, but I will note that because interviews come (at least halfway) from the person being interviewed, some editors won't use them to show notability. I'd also note that if you're saying that you are Ellis Johnson, the subject of the article, you'll need to disclose that on your userpage with the template found here: Template:UserBoxCOI. Hi @Jacob M Pérez - Thanks for reaching out! The number one thing I can recommend is that you read WP:BIO and WP:RS, which explain how we determine an article subject's notability and how we determine whether a source is acceptable. Generally, sources need to be secondary, independent, and reliable if they're going to be used to determine someone's notability.

I'll do a breakdown of the sources in the article here for you. The Youtube Wiki isn't acceptable because its a wiki and so its user-generated. Team Singularity, CarterPulse, Apex Gaming PCs, and KNG are primary and non-independent. Same goes for Fxtch's YouTube channel and Twitter account. The Nicholas Chamberlain School appears to be a self-published blog. From what I can tell, the only source that clearly meets all the criteria is The Loadout. SocialBlade is good as well, but it doesn't prove notability, just a fact about somebody.

I'll let you know too that right now, writing about people in the influencer/streamer/esports space is really weird because while many of them *are* notable, traditional media outlets still avoid covering them, making it difficult to write articles about them. We recently had really contentious deletion discussions about Dream (YouTuber), Tubbo, and Jaiden Animations. I don't have a lot of expertise when it comes to writing articles in this area, so I can't help with finding sources, but I hope that this gives you a decent idea of how to direct your research. Hi @Andrewgoldsongs - It's fine to use the AFC process! I was referring to the fact that we have a page called Spooky scary skeletons already, it just redirects to the article for Andrew Gold. If your article is accepted, somebody will just change that page to direct to the page for the song instead. The sources themselves are mostly fine, the problem is that they're just external links. If you look at the article for Andrew Gold, you see how the sources appear at the bottom in a list as well? If you use Template:Cite Web, it'll let you create those. Hi @Checkmaters - I will take another look later tonight. I'm also a first year graduate student, and we're hitting exam season this week so I don't have as much time as I usually do. From what I recall, I was concerned that a lot of the tone was closer to something from an essay/journal article than what we'd consider "encyclopedic tone," but when I look I can hopefully clear some of that up. Features for new users coming soon (and mentors, like you, wanted!)

Hello. As you're listed as a host at the Teahouse, I wanted to make sure you're aware of the imminent rollout of new Growth Team Features which every new account will be getting by default. Each users will soon see a new 'Homepage' tab next to their User page. It contains two main elements which might impact on your involvement - and you'd be welcome to get involved and help out directly with one of them.

• Firstly, they will be offered a range of 'suggested edits', and encouraged to make simple improvements to pages that interest them. (Being aware of this feature would be helpful for all Teahouse hosts if you're likely to offer advice on tasks for them to start out doing.)
• There's also a 'Your impact' box to show them how many people have seen the pages they've just edited.
• Finally, each new user is randomly assigned a 'mentor' from a list of friendly, experienced editors, like yourself. If they get stuck, they can ask a question directly to them via a Your mentor box, and hopefully get a swift, friendly answer from that mentor. Currently, this feature is given to 2% of new users, but it's set to increase to around 10% in the very near future.

To spread the load on our current list of around 65 mentors, I'm reaching out to ask if you'd like to help out and sign up as one? The workload is relatively small; User Panini! reports receiving four questions a month, on average, all of which were simple ones of the type we already get at the Teahouse, whilst I've had just one in the last 3 weeks. If becoming a mentor and being available to help new users on their first few days here interests you - just as have done at the Teahouse in the past - then please consider signing up at Growth Team features/Mentor list. Hi Gazamp - While I appreciate you correcting the "NAME" issues (that's what I get for editing in long sessions), I have to disagree with you on the other two points. I removed OurCampaigns because it's been characterized as unreliable and is listed at WP:RSP. In this case it did not contain any information not listed in the other two sources and its linked data source is a dead link. As for the categorization of Pickens as a National Republican, I see that OurCampaigns lists him as that, but Dubin categorizes him as a Democratic Republican in this election. This page on him even categorizes him as "Jacksonian" in the side-bar. Is there a better source for Pickens being a National Republican? If he's also a National Republican, then the shading doesn't really help any so may as well be removed altogether. If there's anything I can help with, let me know. New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello ThadeusOfNazereth,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 816 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 858 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000 at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Yeah, that's fine. The short description doesn't need to be copy/pasted from the article text. I've been going through the sci-fi novels category updating anything that doesn't at least have the year and author to a standard "[YEAR] novel by [AUTHOR]" format, following the suggestions at WP:SDEXAMPLES and WP:SDDATES. New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

Hello ThadeusOfNazereth,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination

MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.

Open letter to the WMF

The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.

TIP - Reviewing by subject

Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.

The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

Unfortunately, I don't have a specific cleanup proposal - I don't have any topic-specific knowledge and don't generally do copy-editing outside of my interest areas. My reason for reversion was that the article needs an intro paragraph - That's pretty much iron-clad wiki policy. If you think the overview section covers the same information in an objective way, you're probably fine to WP:BEBOLD and move that section to the lead and replace the text that's currently there. That'll probably suffice until you or somebody else can do a full lead rewrite (WP:CREATELEAD might have some useful tips, although it's mostly talking about the leads for event articles). @ThadeusOfNazereth, See Wikipedia:New_pages_patrol#Sourcing_issues. No, if the subject is not notable, the article should be moved to draft, redirected, merged, CSDed, AFDed, PRODed, as appropriate. Tagging is for issues that can be addressed, like better sourcing on a notable topic. In this case, I had tagged it for Merging and that had consensus, it just hadn't been completed yet. One of the biggest issues facing NPP is that it is hard to determine notability, especially when there are sources in the article but they are paywalled or in foreign languages. These types of articles tend to sit in the queue for quite a while. We shouldn't mark them as reviewed until someone eventually makes a determination that they belong in the encyclopedia. Given the current copyright issues this sort of seems like a moot point, but I used the tag more generally because the article wasn't written in an encyclopedic way - Like you say, it's written in a style typical of advanced research-level mathematics articles. Wikipedia isn't a repository for research-level articles, it's an encyclopedia. The biggest issue is that there's no introduction actually explaining what a Coxeter Fan is - The entire article is essentially a sample problem. AFDs

Hello, ThadeusOfNazereth,

I was noticing with Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Northwest Washington Synod that the day after (ONE DAY!) you nominated all of these articles for deletion, you went ahead and redirected them all! This kind of makes a discussion at AFD pointless if you are going to take action prior to closure of the discussion. It also leaves the closer in a difficult position...what if the consensus isn't to Merge or Redirect these articles but you have gone ahead and already done it? Would they then need to revert all of your edits to carry out a decision to Keep or Draftify these pages?

AFDs are for community discussion and you shouldn't open one if you can't wait a week to hear what other editors think of your nomination. If you take action on your own prior to AFD closure, it's not a validation of your actions because you have done it in advance of a consensus decision being determined so all of your redirects can be undone by any editor who disagrees with your choices.

In the future, if you want to be bold and redirect articles, then go ahead and do so unless an editor objects and either reverts your edits or starts a talk page discussion about them. And only open AFDs for changes where you want to hear community input and for the consensus decision to be enforceable (for lack of a better word). Sound good? Liz ^{Read! Thanks for the detailed feedback - Just for clarification, I wasn't planning on redirecting the articles without community consensus - I wouldn't have nominated them if I didn't want it! I got the process flustered after Jahaza told me in the discussion that I didn't need the nomination to do redirects/merges, so I withdrew the nomination based on that. I saw Necrothesp's comment on the AfD after I withdrew which initially confused me more - I probably should have engaged there to try and clarify what I was actually supposed to do but, rather stupidly, didn't want to rock the boat. I'm holding off on future nominations, batch or otherwise, until I get a better hang of the procedures. I don't think any of those will be undone as they're fairly non-controversial, but I obviously won't involve myself in any future discussion relating to them. Good question - The minor edit button should only be used for entirely superficial changes, so things like formatting, spelling, and correcting obviously false information. Hello! Normally I would point you to Help:Your first article, but it seems like you already have a draft going at Draft:Jadrian Clark. The process would be to put Template:AfC submission at the top of the draft, which will automatically put it in the Articles for Creation queue to be reviewed. I will let you know now, though, that the article probably won't be accepted in its current state. I see you have a list of references at the bottom, but for an article about a living person it's a good idea to use inline citations so that each statement of fact has an accompanying citation. You also have a LOT of information in the college section that's not all necessary - All the really specific stats make it seem like trivia. I would clean up that section a lot and maybe make it resemble Kasim Edebali's "College career" section - One paragraph with the most important information. Let me know if you have other questions! EB1911 Missing Articles list

Hi: hoping not to add to your stress; this is just an attempt to save you work. You recently added 1911 posters to some "Y" articles, and edited the corresponding Missing Articles list with the "ok" tag. According to a code a few of us established what feels like a lifetime ago, ok means the WP article contains significant text identical to EB, while no1911 means the page has been reviewed and has no such text. I think the pages you edited are still no1911 by that definition. Admittedly this distinction is (a) arcane (b) not properly documented currently (I'll fix that) (c) not useful, unless one day we do some statistics. Hi XF1998 - So the general go-to guide is the "General Notability Guideline" which outlines what we expect at the bare minimum. It seems like a lot of your editing is in the music area, and we actually have a subject-specific guideline for music at "Notability (music)" that goes a lot more in-depth. You might also check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Music, which links to a bunch of other projects/pages and probably has better information than I can provide since it's a bit outside of my wheelhouse. Question regarding edits to ELCA Synods

Hello, I am new to being a real user of Wikipedia, so I hope I am asking this in the right place.

It appears as though you made some edits to several articles for induvial synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America where you merged their individual pages which included a lot of cultural history and detail of those bodies, into one page that lists all those bodies but includes no cultural or historical detail. I am hoping you can she some light on this decision for me. It seems like a net loss to internet to lose those stories.

So there's an important clarification that needs to be made about redirecting - None of the information has actually been deleted, it's still accessible in the page history. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the information in those pages was either uncited or cited only to primary sources, and my review of secondary literature did not turn up much substantiation. You can see WP:GNG for more in-depth explanation with a lot of helpful examples, but Wikipedia uses a three-pronged model to determine notability - Topics require "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." A couple examples:

• A page like Alaska Synod, which only contained references to the ELCA itself, isn't showing its notability OR any information not on the List of ELCA synods page, and there were a lot of synod pages like that, many with no references at all.
• Some of the pages that looked like they had more substance weren't really saying anything about the synod itself. Take the New Jersey Synod page as an example here, where there are three paragraphs devoted to explanations of the neighboring synods and the history of the area independent from the Synod. That's all essentially trivial content that doesn't enhance a reader's understand of the synod itself, and we wouldn't expect to see that in an print encyclopedia entry.

Just now I reviewed about a dozen of those redirects and didn't see anything with cultural or historical detail in the versions I redirected, but it's possible some exists in the ones I didn't check - If you're aware of secondary sources and can expand those back into full articles, please do! I'm not really editing in this area anymore, I've been focusing on African-American history, but let me know if you have questions or want me to take a look at a draft or anything like that :) ThadeusOfNazereth(he/him)^{Talk to Me!} 18:58, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
