South Africa[edit]

Happy new year ... Quick question, do you happen to know whether this year's South African Open is part of the 2014 Sunshine Tour schedule or the 2015 Sunshine Tour schedule? Johnsmith2116 (talk) 17:27, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2014, there was an article on their site that stated it was the last OoM event of 2014 season. Tewapack (talk) 20:46, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thammanoon Sriro_?[edit]

I just discovered that the article Thammanoon Srirot exists, whereas Thammanoon Sriroj doesn't. Both names refer to the same person; it seems to be a difference in Romanization. The <j> form is used by the Asian, European, PGA, and Japan tours. pʰeːnuːmuː →‎ pʰiːnyːmyː → ‎ɸinimi → ‎fiɲimi 20:33, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'd move to the common usage, leaving the redirect. Tewapack (talk) 20:37, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for correcting the succession box on the 2015 U.S. Women's Open page -- I must not have been thinking clearly when I entered it in there. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 23:28, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Quick question[edit]

Any idea when the Majors golf templates had been added to non-Major golf pages? I noticed today that they had been removed from a couple pages this morning, but honestly I hadn't even noticed that they had been on those pages to begin with. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 15:05, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at the edit histories, it was January 2009. That has been a contentious template from the start. Tewapack (talk) 06:50, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Garth Mulroy[edit]

I see there is a disagreement in the user-box information of Garth Mulroy, as it has been changed back to the way it had been earlier. Is there a way to know for sure his height and weight so we can be sure the information in the box is correct? Johnsmith2116 (talk) 21:58, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. - I noticed that the account that had changed the Mulroy information back was from a new account. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 22:17, 19 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted again based on info in tour profiles. Tewapack (talk) 04:39, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2015 Sugar Bowl[edit]

What do you think about this edit? -- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2015_Sugar_Bowl&diff=643285958&oldid=643285471
Does that seem like factual information, or does it seem more like a personal opinion? Johnsmith2116 (talk) 00:05, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly POV unless backed up with citation. Tewapack (talk) 04:39, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay - thanks. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 15:26, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Garth Mulroy - part two[edit]

I noticed that the image in the info box on Mulroy's page has been taken down, and I've noticed this kind of thing happening in the past also with other articles. Is there a specific rule that says certain images can't be used in a public person's profile? Johnsmith2116 (talk) 15:26, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The new image was deleted because of copyright violations. Tewapack (talk) 15:31, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just out of curiousity ...[edit]

Good morning -- I noticed that there is a message on TriSports123's talk page, but the page appears to have just been made - I was a little confused as to who put the message on their talk page, as your username is the one signed to it, but it didn't appear that you were the one who put the message there. Just curious. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 15:24, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why?[edit]

Would you redirect a 1980 tournament played in Nevada to a tournament that was only played in Colorado. the 1980 winner, Donna caponi won in Nevada. If you don't believe me, try AP[1]...William 16:05, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Columbia Savings LPGA National Pro-Am was called "LPGA National Pro-Am" in 1985 (Pat Bradley) and 1986 (Amy Alcott). The J&B Scotch Pro-Am was called "LPGA National Pro-Am" in 1980 (Donna Caponi). The original redirect was to Columbia Savings LPGA National Pro-Am and worked for 1985 LPGA Tour, 1986 LPGA Tour, Pat Bradley, and Amy Alcott. Donna Caponi page had a piped link "J&B Scotch Pro-Am|LPGA National Pro-Am" but the 1980 LPGA Tour page link was wrong. That's the one I fixed by adding the piped link... But now I see you've figured it out. Tewapack (talk) 16:20, 3 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dale Morey[edit]

Thanks for the help on filling out his golf section, I am not really knowledgeable about golf. When you think you are finished writing about it please let me know. Thanks! Jrcla2 (talk) 17:05, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm finished (I mention it yesterday on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Golf#Need help writing Dale Morey's article but you must have missed it.). Happy to help. Tewapack (talk) 18:02, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Tewapack, for increasing the size of (and relocating to a better position) the Morey photo I uploaded. I played around with pixel size for about an hour and couldn't put in the right code to make it bigger. I am familiar with "300px, etc." but I wasn't putting it directly in the infobox as you did. I think I was adding the pixel volume to the actual photo itself which didn't work at all! You know every trick in the book. The quality of the Morey article went straight down hill after the photo that was there before suddenly disappeared. The picture I found isn't of the best quality but it is certainly better than no photo at all. I think a picture of any sort improves the quality of any article by at least 30%. --EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 20:16, 6 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for making the page for the new Thailand event. I was just about to do it myself within the next hour, but now I see you've done it and it saves me the time. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 20:01, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Strolling in and deleting everything[edit]

Is this your style, to just stroll in and delete large swaths of data from articles? Please talk to me before doing any more of this. Thank you. --EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 23:00, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You don't own the Herbert Strong (golfer) article. I'm simply trying to make it better. Tewapack (talk) 23:03, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That is true. Keep on going my friend. You are making some nice improvements. --EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 23:23, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Wonderful job in editing my article on Herbert Strong (golfer). Keep up the good work! The article still needs more help, and hopefully master editors like yourself and others will come along and make it even better. Thank you!

PGA Tour edit[edit]

I happened to notice a recent edit on the PGA Tour page that mentioned that the current TV deal started in 2011. I don't think this is correct. If I remember correctly, I think it's a 15-year deal that started in 2007 and runs through 2015. Please take a look at this recent edit ( https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=PGA_Tour&diff=646836845&oldid=645310729 ) and see what you think. Thanks. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 19:41, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That's not my area of expertise or interest. My suggestion is to try to verify the edit or your recollection with reliable sources. Tewapack (talk) 21:53, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Since I'm not well versed on the golf jargon - as per WP:NGOLF, is he notable for inclusion here? I've noticed his name redlinked a few times. Connormah (talk) 04:03, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He certainly meets criterion 6 - he played most of the 1960s on the PGA Tour, including 5 second place finishes. He's not someone I've researched so I don't know how easy it will be to find reliable sources, especially from someone of that era. Tewapack (talk) 03:26, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I saw a few Google News sources so I'll likely create a stub when I get the chance. Could you help flesh it out then? Thanks. Connormah (talk) 05:01, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be happy to help. Tewapack (talk) 05:06, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just created it. Connormah (talk) 20:18, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for the help! Connormah (talk) 21:29, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Von Nida Tour - Aaron Townsend[edit]

Hi

Thanks for the cleanup on this article as always. Quick question, you have removed the win on the Von Nida Tour from the list of professional wins and just left it as a PGA Tour of Aus win, while I appreciate that having it listed separately duplicates the information, I also feel that it is important to show that he did have a win on this tour. The event itself was formally an event on the Von Nida Tour rather than the PGA Tour of Au, please could you explain the national for removing this subsection?

Thanks for all your help

Tracland (talk) 17:29, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I Think it is needless duplication. There is no chance for him to get anymore VNT wins. Tewapack (talk) 18:49, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Can't argue with that given the tour no longer exists Tracland (talk) 19:49, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A thanks[edit]

Thanks for adding Andrew Dodt's name on the True Thailand Classic page, in the information box section; I noticed I hadn't completed it - it was still very early in the morning and I must not have been thinking straight. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 20:23, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

James Maiden[edit]

Thanks for whipping this article into shape so quickly. You are one fast editor, and a good one, too! I was hoping you would put your finesse on it ... and you did just that. I figured this James Maiden fellow deserved an article. It is no small feat to finish T3 at a US Open. I think he won several tournaments over the years also, sectional PGA events and tourneys of that sort. --EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 16:27, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to do an article on George Low (golfer) next. I will gather as much data as I can scrounge up and then hopefully you can add your normal masterful touches to it. I have already gathered some data on him but have a lot more work to do. I should have the basic article finished later today or tomorrow. Low was a really good player (one of the best putters of all time), and was one of those golfers who had the potential to win big on the biggest stages but just didn't quite pull it off. Having said that, he still has a fine record as a player. --EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 17:02, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am working on an article for Jack Hobens next. He was quite the golfer as well, and I am very surprised that he doesn't have a Wiki article already. I am sure you will have a field day adding his U.S. Open and other results! EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 18:19, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

World Golf Championships[edit]

Hi -- Just wondering if you'd take a minute to take a look at the World Golf Championships page, because it appears that there is a little bit strange editing on there by an IP user, making matters confusing. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 18:42, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2015 Pan American Games Golf[edit]

Hi there is no men's and women's team events for the 2015 Pan American Games golf competition. There will only be a mixed team tournament. I know the website lists men's and women's but that information is wrong. The sport technical manual only lists a mixed team event. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 19:32, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We can only go with what is verifiable. The official site [2] says:

Medal Events

 • Women – individual
 • Women – team competition
 • Men – individual
 • Men – team competition.

No mixed team. Do you have a reliable source that says no M & W team but a mixed team? Tewapack (talk) 19:39, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Team USA site seems to indicated 5 events [3] Tewapack (talk) 19:41, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I do, the website is wrong unfortunately. Here is the sport technical manual. The information is on page 5 [4]. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 20:51, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for fixing up the schedule + article!! Will you be helping out this summer to put up results etc.? Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:35, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I probably will but may be on vacation at that time... Tewapack (talk) 22:42, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Jack Hobens[edit]

I wrote an article for Jack Hobens. I need your help to fix the table showing his major championship results. I have filled in quite a bit of his results. What I don't know is if he tied for any of the results I put in.

Also, if you would, please add his PGA Championship results (the ones I know of) which were:

Last 16 in 1916
Last 32 in 1919

Mike Tyson[edit]

Question - do you think the information about Mike Tyson's conviction belongs in the article's header? I can see it being in the body of the article, but I'm not sure about it being in the header. Please take a look at the recent activity in the Mike Tyson article and see what you think. Thanks. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 00:19, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for fixing the "runner up" wording on the Andy Sullivan page. I knew better, but yet somehow I still did it wrong, putting the "s" in the wrong place -- I guess I wasn't thinking straight at the time. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 18:00, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Engineers Country Club[edit]

My nice picture of Engineers Country Club keeps getting deleted! It was on the articles for Herbert Strong (golfer) and Engineers Country Club.

I have gotten permission from the club president at Engineers to use that photo. And I have sent the email wherein permission was granted to the permissions area at Wiki. Can you help me to get the picture put back on these articles? I have emailed the admin who deleted them but have not gotten any reply from him/her. I think a bot deleted the picture the first time. Thank you. --EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 01:45, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures is one area I stay away from so I'm not the one to ask. Sorry. Tewapack (talk) 03:13, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Another thanks[edit]

On the Padraig Harrington page, I had forgetten to disambiguate the name of Daniel Berger with "(golfer)" at the end of it. Thanks for fixing it. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 17:28, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mission Hills[edit]

Thanks for taking the flag out on the World Ladies Championship page - somehow I missed that one. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 21:23, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lee Janzen[edit]

Hi -- I had thought that someone's first win on the Champions Tour got them italicized in the Champions Tour page no matter what. I didn't know it was only for when their first CT win is also their first Champions Tour event played. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 23:43, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Italics = win in CT debut, the (1) suffices for first win. Tewapack (talk) 04:12, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

onlyinclude tags[edit]

I saw that your edit to 2015 Pacific-12 Conference Men's Basketball Tournament remove the "onlyinclude" tags, but I restored them. They are used for transclusion, so the conference season article can share the tournament bracket. The tags limited the transclusion to the specific section tagged off. Let me know if there is a specific reason for the tags not to remain. Thanks.—Bagumba (talk) 03:36, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Conference basketball season pages[edit]

Hey, I saw you have been actively editing a college basketball conference season page, so please see this discussion here so we can get a consensus of editors. While this discussion is specifically on the SEC page, it concerns all conferences' pages. Jhn31 (talk) 22:36, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Arnold Palmer[edit]

I re-added the Pittsburgh suburb bit, I appreciate your good-faith efforts on the article, however it is a suburb. If you wish we can discuss this more on the article's talk page. Suffice to say both metrics of what a suburb is (Census and the lesser used Designated Market Area) put Latrobe in metro Pittsburgh, I hail from not far from there, it's un-mistakenly "Pittsburgh". Mileage has little to nothing to do with a suburb, there are some "suburbs" that exist farther away from central cities then non-suburb communities. I'll be happy to discuss further on the Talk page if you wish. Market St.⧏ ⧐ Diamond Way 16:39, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

single tables Major results[edit]

I was just trying to make the results tables consistent across golfers. I get some of the ones like Fowler who haven't been around too long yet. But why revert, say, Zach Johnson? His table is 11 years long and about to be 12. Adam Scott's is 15 years wide now... shouldn't it be cut like all the others who have played multiple decades? (See, I guess, Fred Couples for example, though there are MANY cut into decades.) Are there rules I should follow somewhere? Almostaghost (talk) 06:41, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There was discussion awhile ago to not split tables until they reached 15+ years, then to break by decade (1990s, 2000s, 2010s, etc). This is for men's majors, women's and seniors have other obvious breakpoints when the composition of majors changed. Tewapack (talk) 02:04, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Phillip Rodgers (golfer)[edit]

I just created this article. However, I misspelled his first name. It is supposed to be "Philip" with only one "l". If you know how to fix this can you help me please? Thanks. --EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 03:52, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I used the "Move" function (next to the search bar) to move the article. Tewapack (talk) 05:06, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Enrique Orellana[edit]

Thanks for the help on Enrique Orellana. I lived in Chile for two years as a kid and also like golf. I'd always wondered if Chile had ever had a player at the Masters. The qualification this year of Matías Domínguez brought to light the career of Orellana and that he had been Chile's only player ever there. (One of the articles starts out saying that when Orellana's phone rang after Dominguez won the Latin American Amateur, he laughed because he knew exactly why people were calling -- because he was the only Chilean to have played the Masters.) I was curious about him, but info was hard to find. No good bio of him anywhere. The Chilean Golf Federation only had a link to one article from La Tercera. So the article developed slowly (especially with my subpar editing skills). Finally, it became clear how he arrived at Augusta. To double check my Spanish, I had a friend in Chile interpret for me. After a lot of tweaking, I'm satisfied with the current version. Still many unanswered questions about him. 1936 is an educated guess for his birth year. Within a year for sure, at least. Anyhow, thanks for going in and cleaning up the references. That is hard for me to do still. BTW, if I can get the energy to do so, I think an article on Chilean golfer Francisco Cerda would be a good one. He won his first and last Chilean Opens 28 years apart, with several in between. One reference says he's the greatest Chilean golfer ever.BillVol (talk) 16:41, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dead links[edit]

And wherefore is to have dead links??--Unikalinho (talk) 01:12, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Don't delete dead links - either mark them as dead with dead link or try to find an archived version or an updated link, see WP:LINKROT. Also, don't "fix" thinks that aren't broken per WP:NOTBROKEN and don't WP:OVERLINK city, state names. Tewapack (talk) 01:18, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You didn't answer on my question--Unikalinho (talk) 01:41, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If you delete a dead link, the information is gone. If you tag it, someone may be able to find the correct link or an archived version. Read WP:LINKROT. Tewapack (talk) 02:13, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If the link is signed as dead link, can a user, who is reading the article, to see, that it is dead?--Unikalinho (talk) 02:28, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Tewapack (talk) 02:31, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Washington Bullets (redirect)[edit]

It should'nt to write also, for example, Washington Bullets instead of Washington Bullets?--Unikalinho (talk) 01:40, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No, let the redirect work. Read WP:NOTBROKEN. Tewapack (talk) 02:12, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's uncomfortable for user, who, in this case, cannot to see the name of target article (and to know the actually name) via CURSOR :(--Unikalinho (talk) 02:17, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I have no idea what you are trying to say. Tewapack (talk) 02:26, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately can I not to show clearly. Well. If I see the wikilink, I put the cursor on this link, to see, what is the name of target article. I don't need to open the link, to see it. I think, many users do so. If the link directs to redirect, the user doesn't have this possibility...--Unikalinho (talk) 02:38, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:UNBROKEN, there are 6 reasons not to bypass a redirect that outweigh your one reason to bypass. Tewapack (talk) 02:43, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There are 3 reasons to bypass! Plus one my reason -- total 4. Also, the first of the 6 reasons contra is weird. How can it to make “future articles” on redirects?? o-o--Unikalinho (talk) 02:59, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, point one doesn't apply to what you've been doing, only to navboxes; point 2 is your point; point three doesn't apply either. An example of future articles: PGA European Tour and the redirect European Tour, there really should be a separate article about the European Tour, extracted from the PGA European Tour article, the parent organization. So European Tour is an example of as potential future article. If all the links to European Tour are piped as European Tour, then when European Tour is created, all the piped links would point to the wrong article. Tewapack (talk) 03:13, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ι have no contra existing of the redirects. But I am for using of rdr. as little as possible. The second reason, not mentioned, is excess load on servers, with using of rdr.--Unikalinho (talk) 03:10, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Then you are going against consensus. Tewapack (talk) 03:13, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Then I want to ask: fix the flags (it's about historical flags, f.e. flag USA-48 stars, where it is necessary); and you don't need me no more--Unikalinho (talk) 03:30, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's a very low priority for me - you can't visually tell the difference between United States and United States and hovering over either is the same. Tewapack (talk) 03:33, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Then wherefore we have the historical flags in general? if it is unnecessary...--Unikalinho (talk) 03:41, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And: I indicated here dead link, why did you cancel it?--Unikalinho (talk) 03:44, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Because I fixed the link. Tewapack (talk) 16:27, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Carl Paulson[edit]

My cleanup of the references in the Paulson article included getting rid of dead links found at PGA references you obviously care about. It appears you noticed they were dead because they were no longer dead after your revert. However, I don't understand your desire to have the same reference twice in the first sentence of this article. Not that it really matters to me. I'm just curious as to why you insist on such redundancy. Although they are titled differently, they both go to the same Paulson PGA profile page. Just seems odd to have two of the same in the same sentence. Whitesquire (talk) 21:55, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No they go to two different pages. In general you shouldn't delete dead references, either mark the with , fix them , or find an archived version. Tewapack (talk) 03:13, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to fix them, but it looks like you wanted to fix them to preserve some earlier retrieval date. Not that it matters. I'm just saying I was trying to make the article better. Your PGA profile reference doesn't say anything more than your PGA biographical reference (ie, your bio reference is a tab of the profile page). In other words, your profile reference (ie, the profile page) isn't necessary since the bio reference includes the profile page and more. Whitesquire (talk) 04:13, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New Article: Tom Kerrigan (golfer)[edit]

I just created this article a few hours ago. Been working on it feverishly ever since. It has a few issues that you might be able to address. Take a look when you have time. Thanks! --EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 05:43, 3 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've had my hand at it. A few points in general about editing:
 1. Dates: per MOS:DATEFORMAT, the date format throughout an article should be consistent, either month-day-year or day-month-year. If the article is primarily related to the U.S., use mdy, most of the rest of the world, use dmy, (Canada use either). In a bio of a person with dual/changing nationality, choose one format and stick with it (defer to primary article author if you didn't create the article). (Exception: book titles, newspaper article titles, quotes, etc retain actual format).
 2. References, use the |newspaper=xxx, |work=xxx, or |magazine=xxx and not |publisher=xxx.
 3. Be very wary of using genealogies from ancestry.com as sources - they are likely not WP:RELIABLE
Otherwise, keep up the good work. Tewapack (talk) 18:58, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I shall pay attention to your pointers. Thank you for filling in the table on Kerrigan. --EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 20:09, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tour membership[edit]

What are the criteria to determine if someone was a member of a given tour? It looks to me that his three wins notwithstanding, Tim Clark has never been more a full of the European Tour. Based on his career record, he played eleven tournaments in both 2005 and 2006, which was the minimum, and yet he was not included on the Order of Merit; this implies that he did not take up membership following his wins in 2005. Regarding affiliate membership, my personal opinion is that it should not be counted unless the player finished in the top 110/115 and also played at least the minimum number of events the following year. Tim Clark played zero regular European Tour events during the year that he was eligible following his 70th-place R2D finish as an affiliate. That was my logic when I removed "European Tour" from his infobox. pʰeːnuːmuː →‎ pʰiːnyːmyː → ‎ɸinimi → ‎fiɲimi 17:10, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He finished 70th on the OoM in 2009. He must have been a member to qualify for the OoM. The ETs rules for membership have changed frequently enough that I based it on OoM inclusion/exclusion vs tournaments played. Tewapack (talk) 17:15, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I did some more digging. This link indicates (I think) that he had past champion status in 2009. Since this type of status no longer exists, I don't know what the rules were. The only others on the list I linked to that had this status were John Daly and Stephen Ames, so it wasn't just everyone that had won a tournament in the past. I guess that means he might have opted in. He only played the majors, three WGCs, the two events he had won in the past, and the Australian Masters (he played all three Aus. majors that year, and won the Open).
While we're on this topic: I'm wondering we determine "current tours" for the following:
 • PGA Tour Past Champions and Veteran Members
 • Players with membership of a tour who never play that tour
 • Pablo Martín
There's probably others I can't think of at the moment. pʰeːnuːmuː →‎ pʰiːnyːmyː → ‎ɸinimi → ‎fiɲimi 19:04, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with all golfers is when do they become "inactive" on a tour and should drop from "tour" to "extour". Some cases are obvious, i.e. lost card with no other status. These in general aren't well monitored - it takes some effort to compared previous year's exemption list to current year's list. For PGA Tour past champions, they still have status and can play but I watch their actual play and drop them if they haven't played in a year or two (usually they've retired, semi-retired, or moved on to the Champions Tour). Not sure what you had in mind with your second example. Martín is on the current R2D list so I'd consider him an ET member. Tewapack (talk) 19:20, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Two examples: Ángel Cabrera is still listed in the European Tour's exemption categories, yet has not played in a sole-sanctioned event since 2012, and only three since 2009, and last qualified for the OoM in 2008. Tim Clark is exempt on the Sunshine Tour through career earnings, but has only played in one event since the end of 2012: the Nedbank Golf Challenge last December, which doesn't use the normal categories; he qualified as the highest-ranked South African not exempt in a higher category.
Martín's case is unique. He lost his European Tour card at the end of 2012, but his Alfred Dunhill wins made him exempt through 2015 on the Sunshine Tour. In 2013 he played several Euro and Challenge events on invitations. Since the start of the 2013-14 Euro season he's also used his Sunshine status to play in all the co-sanctioned events. He is a member of the Sunshine Tour, he only plays in the co-sanctioned events and the Dimension Data Pro-Am. He is an affiliate Euro member this year for the first time since losing his card. My personal opinion is that only Euro members in cats 1-17 should count as members for our purposes, thereby excluding affiliates and Challenge Tour members. I mean, Greg Chalmers is an affiliate this year (and incl. on R2D) but I wouldn't call him a member. pʰeːnuːmuː →‎ pʰiːnyːmyː → ‎ɸinimi → ‎fiɲimi 20:07, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Masters[edit]

I was wondering what your take on this is - apparently an administrator removed the file trademark logo for the Masters from the pages for the 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 Masters tournaments. Is there any real harm in having that logo on there? It's been there for several years, hasn't it? Johnsmith2116 (talk) 18:33, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I thought the decision reached a while ago was to have it on the main page and the current year's page. It's all related to copyright and fair-use justification. Tewapack (talk) 18:41, 13 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Non-constructive edit removing one specific date from List of American Civil War battles‎[edit]

Hello. I must admit I'm puzzled by your edits to List of American Civil War battles‎. You appear to be a veteran editor who specializes in golf topics. You removed one specific date fron the Civil war list. I undid your edit. You then undid mine. I have a hard time seeing how your edit is constructive. Will you please explain? Tks. • ArchReader 21:19, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Did you look at the table before and after my edit? Before displays as "December 17December 17–18, 1864", after displays as "December 17–18, 1864" - I was simply correcting an error. Tewapack (talk) 21:22, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, OK! One date is inside a template, and the other isn't. I didn't spot both. Sorry for the misunderstanding. • ArchReader 21:31, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2015 BMW PGA Championship[edit]

Thanks for fixing that mistake of mine on the missed cuts, it was simply a mistake, as I was hastily trying to do more than one thing at a time. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 18:50, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The ref is in a section called "Sources" meaning sources used in writing the article. The source used to write the article was an Epub edition. The Epub edition has different page numbering from the hardcover edition. Thus, if you look up page 45 on the Epub, it will be different from page 45 on the hardover edition. Thus, the source must reference the Epub edition so that readers can verify the page numbers given in the citations. I was surprised when you removed reference to the digital edition as that is significant information that needs to be retained. -- GreenC 19:13, 25 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Patrick Doyle[edit]

If Doyle came to the US circa 1908-09, I wonder how he completed in the Irish PGA after that? Maybe he went back to Ireland for awhile. If that isn't the case, the Doyle who played in the Irish PGA is a different guy.

I think I added Mount Vernon as place of death myself. Can't remember where I got that data however. I need to do some more digging on that.--EditorExtraordinaire (talk) 03:13, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please take a look at the recent edit history for this article? There are two things at issue:

 1. Oliver Farr's status. It seems to me that this tweet makes it clear that he is in the field.
 2. Stephan Jaeger/Jäger's spelling. The Web.com Tour spells his name Jaeger. Since he is German, I have always assumed that the original form is Jäger and that the <ae> is a work-around spelling. I seriously doubt that his name is Jäeger. EDIT: See also Jäger.

You don't put an article at an existing redirect without first moving all references to the redirect. Tewapack (talk) 03:26, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If that golf player's professional name is not Anne Sander, your redirect seems inappropriate.Zigzig20s (talk) 03:31, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
She played many years under the Anne Sander name. That redirect has existed for 5 years. Tewapack (talk) 03:37, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
An MEP would seem more prominent. But also it's not her main name now apparently. It would make more sense to have Anne Sander for the politician, and a hatnote for a golf player with a formerly same name, which is no longer her name.Zigzig20s (talk) 03:53, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Italics in infoboxes[edit]

PGA Tour season articles[edit]

An IP just added the purses and winner's shares to the 2015 PGA Tour article. I've always assumed those aren't necessary on season articles, since we don't have them on other recent PGA Tour seasons or any European Tour seasons. PGA Tour seasons 2004 and before have them, but then they also have winning scores, which I think is overkill.

Also, I'm in favor of transforming the "status" column into a "notes" column as with other tours. What are your thoughts on these matters? pʰeːnuːmuː →‎ pʰiːnyːmyː → ‎ɸinimi → ‎fiɲimi 22:52, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Since I'm the one that created the 2004 and prior articles, I'm obviously in favor of the scores, winner's share, and purse columns. Early purses were difficult to obtain for some tournaments so I left them out of those articles. I think that info adds to the article and the columns should be made sortable as well. "Status "probably should be changed to "Notes" and all the "regular" entries deleted. For the 2015 article, if the columns stay they need to be right-aligned. Tewapack (talk) 00:18, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've made the "status">"notes" change on 2015. I wasn't altogether averse to showing the purses, but I thought there might not be room; this seems not to be an issue.
One other thing: I'm not sure if I like having unofficial events on schedules. I'm aware they're on schedules listed on tour websites, but we never have the CVS Charity Classic or the World Cup of Golf listed; I don't think the World Challenge is necessary, and the Ryder and Presidents cups, while more necessary, now fall between PGA Tour seasons. pʰeːnuːmuː →‎ pʰiːnyːmyː → ‎ɸinimi → ‎fiɲimi 15:45, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think the cleanest way to address the unofficial events is to list them in a separate table - it's been on my mental to-do list. Basically every thing in Category:PGA Tour unofficial money events plus team events and a few other that don't have articles yet (Jerry Ford Invitational, Four Tours World Championship). Tewapack (talk) 16:07, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like a good idea. Are/were all those events recognized by the PGA Tour, or is there some other criterion?
P.S. When I said "World Cup" above, I meant to say "Grand Slam" — the World Cup is already included on most. pʰeːnuːmuː →‎ pʰiːnyːmyː → ‎ɸinimi → ‎fiɲimi 17:41, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation[edit]

I don't expect you to explain why one Lema win needs a reference except for stubborness and plain out right.... This coming from the same editor who added fiction to Lema's article namely he being the 1963 Ryder Cup Captain. Then leaving that edit to stand for the better part of three years.[7] Just one more addition to the piles of fiction you've let stand in golf articles- A Boros-Palmer playoff at the 1965 Ryder Cup, Dave Stockton making birdie at the 72nd hole of the 1976 PGA, Calvin Peete being a migrant farm worker, The PGA Tour stop in Sutton MA and the unofficial event in Rhode Island being the same tournament because CVS sponsored both, That Japanese golf article I fixed today that had 3 different years mentioned for when it became and more, but the Lema captaincy stands out because you put it in the article yourself. Somebody took not just took out references in the 1984 and 1994 US Open[8] articles, but put in incorrect information. In the 94 case, you came along right afterwards[9] and neither restored the reference or fixed the change to what hole Els made triple bogey on. You did nothing about the changes to 84 either. The contrast in your behavior there and today are obvious. You spend more time on commas than weeding out the bs in articles I say again. I did the Lema win box three years ago without references. Why is one win in need of one now? And Ancestry.com fails WP:RS....William 19:08, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

 1. Yep, I made a bad "copy and paste" on the Lema article - you caught it - great. It wasn't the first mistake I've made and won't be the last.
 2. As I've said before, you can't fault me with edits I don't make.
 3. The ref I enhanced after you deleted it, counter to WP:DEADREF, is unquestionably a reliable source (a digitized newspaper article just like the google newspaper articles you've referenced for years), see WP:SOURCEACCESS. Tewapack (talk) 19:53, 1 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable amateur vs. possible fraud[edit]

Tewapack, can you take a look at Ann Probert, and let me know what you think? It looks like this article may be suspect on notability and accuracy grounds. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 01:49, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

She not notable as a golfer per WP:NGOLF and marginal on WP:GNG - most reference appear to be WP:ROUTINE. The article is basically an orphan, just one link to her school as a notable alumnus. It looks like the creator of this article also edited/created several articles for alumni of the same school. Tewapack (talk) 02:19, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There may be more going on here. I found this article through the article creator's list; another one he created, Penelope Probert Boorman, claims that the subject won three medals in the 1959 Pan Am Games. No one with that or any similar name has ever competed in the Pan Am Games. The articles created by this user all rely heavily on hard-copy and unlinked newspapers articles and other unlinked publications, with only a handful of online links that do little more than provide a name. I haven't had time to explore more than a handful, but it smells funny. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 03:13, 24 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2014 Web.com Tour Finals graduates[edit]

I saw that you added a separate results table. I'd done some experimentation with a combined table at my sandbox. This table omits two columns which I consider less important, and the width is manageable. What do you think of this?

Also, I'm not convinced of the necessity of having a separate color for 151-200. There was, of course, no distinction in the Q School days, as anyone could enter Q School. However, there are also other ways to qualify for the Finals; namely, through the Web.com Tour or by a medical extension. Six of the twelve 2013 graduates that finished outside the top 200 were given medical extensions and thus allowed to play the Finals. Another (Alex Prugh) qualified for the Finals through the Web.com Tour – and actually regained his card. In view of this, I suggest that 151-200 be colored red like 201+. pʰeːnuːmuː →‎ pʰiːnyːmyː → ‎ɸinimi → ‎fiɲimi 18:51, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think even with the deletion of the two columns, that the table is getting too wide to be useful on small screens. The two table are really dealing with two separate issues, how did a golfer qualify for a PGA Tour card and how did they do once they got it. So I'd vote for two separate tables.
I think the separate colors for 126-150, 151-200, 200+ make sense. The conditional status is less important than qualifying for the W.c T Finals (further down the priority list). I think that the notes you added at the bottom of the 2013 table is the way to go for explaining other ways that they may have retained their card. Tewapack (talk) 19:15, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Maybank Championship Malaysia[edit]

Should the Maybank Championship be considered a separate event from the Malaysian Open, or the same? The official news release implies that it's a new event, but the European Tour page implies that it's a continuation. Network question[edit]

Do you happen to know for certain the year in which Golf Channel and NBC are supposed to take over the coverage of the British Open, Senior British Open, and Women's British Open? I could have sworn that it is 2017, and that until then, ESPN and/or ESPN2 will continue to be the carrier of those events. The reason I ask is because I have found that an editor, on certain Wikipedia articles, has gone and changed the dates of the NBC/Golf Channel takeover from 2017 to next year. (Go to the pages in question and you'll see for yourself, you'll see that a certain editor has moved it up to next year.) I didn't want to go and undo the changes to those pages without knowing for sure, in the event that the date really has been moved up to next year instead of 2017 as it was originally announced. It's ridiculous - they should all be moved back. Tewapack (talk) 22:40, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I was coming here to ask about this very situation, when I found this message. I moved some of them back. Hopefully something like that won't happen again. Johnsmith2116 (talk) 23:23, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have requested a move for the 1999 article, for technical reasons. pʰeːnuːmuː →‎ pʰiːnyːmyː → ‎ɸinimi → ‎fiɲimi 23:36, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
