"The only confusion was, I think we all thought they were women. Kim was obviously a woman, but they all had this shaved-headed, pretty, soft look. And there were lots of lesbian bands at the time, and we always got booked with them, so we just thought the Pixies were another, like maybe they were like angry divorcees or somthing that formed a band.'" - Kristin Hersh

GA reassessment for Being There (album)[edit]

I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. I have found some concerns with the article which you can see at Talk:Being There (album)/GA1. I have placed the article on hold whilst these are fixed. You are being notified as you are a major contributor to the article. Thanks, GaryColemanFan (talk) 06:20, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just wanted to follow up quickly to find out if you (or any other editors you know of) will be able to address the concerns brought up in this review? If it's a matter of bad timing and a few extra days are needed, please let me know. I can be accommodating if the work will be done. GaryColemanFan (talk) 01:48, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Top-importance Chicago articles[edit]

For the rest of this month we are looking for more candidates to be promoted to Category:Top-importance Chicago articles. We are hoping to bring the list of category members to a total of 50. Either you have participated in past votes and discussions or you have recently signed up to be a part of WP:CHICAGO. In either case, please come visit Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chicago/Assessment where we are determining who to add to the September 1st ballot. Some candidate debates have lingered, but there are many new ones from the project's top 50 according to the Wikipedia:Release Version 0.7. Help us determine which pages to add to the ballot.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 04:17, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Mr. Blotto[edit]

The article Mr. Blotto has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not sure this meets the criteria at WP:MUSIC.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Your status has been changed to inactive at Wikipedia:WikiProject Chicago/members since you did not respond to our confirmation of active status request. If this is an error please come update your status. Also feel free to come vote at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Chicago/Assessment#Current_Top-importance_Candidates for our next Category:Top-importance Chicago articles. Voting continues until September 10 and nominations/discussions are ongoing for future ballot candidates at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chicago/Assessment.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 02:12, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

NowCommons: File:Ray Lamontagne.jpg[edit]

File:Ray Lamontagne.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Ray Lamontagne.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Ray Lamontagne.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:03, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Teemu08! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 943 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Adam Schmitt - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

File permission problem with File:Monahan.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Monahan.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ɔ ʃ 03:27, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chicago Blackhawks FT[edit]

Have you thought of taking Chicago Blackhawks to WP:GT or WP:FT. I see all the work you have done on List of Chicago Blackhawks players and notice that List of Chicago Blackhawks head coaches is also a WP:FL.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 00:19, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. File copyright problem with File:AEC Inspection.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:AEC Inspection.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:30, 20 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Gregg Museum.JPG missing description details[edit]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as File:Gregg Museum.JPG is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors to make better use of the image, and it will be more informative for readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:54, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:United Methodist Church of Batavia.JPG[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:United Methodist Church of Batavia.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:23, 11 August 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. License tagging for File:John Griffith Store Building.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:John Griffith Store Building.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

redirects of NRHP topics[edit]

Hi Teemu08. I came across one then more cases of NRHP building article topics which you had redirected to historic district article on Stolp Island Historic District. It turned out the Talk page of the Aurora Elks Lodge one i was looking for indicated an RFD about it, and then that pointed to others. Further i see other new redirects in your contribution history. I am a longterm NRHP editor. I believe that pretty much all the separate places listed on the NRHP are valid article topics, and should not merely be redirected to articles about historic districts or towns or villages or anything else larger which happens to include them. To the contrary, wikilinks from the historic district articles to the same topics should be created. There is usually available extensive documentation about the individually listed places. I am afraid you might be going through NRHP lists creating such redirects, which should all then be reversed, probably. Could you please comment here? I'll watch. I hope there is just a misunderstanding which can be cleared up. Sincerely, --doncram (talk) 18:47, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I do see you have been doing a great job creating articles like Elgin Historic District, with sources and pics. But, I would pretty strongly prefer to have it show a redlink to Gifford-Davidson House, which is separately NRHP-listed, or create a separate article for that building, rather than have "Gifford-Davidson House" be a redirect to the historic district article. There should be plenty of info available for any separately listed NRHP building for its own article. And, the historic district article does not show an NRHP infobox or have a separate section for the separate building. The effect is that the Gifford-Davidson House topic seems to have been partially erased, rather than better established as a valid topic. There are examples of good historic district articles such as Detroit Financial District which have a separate section for each notable building, each of which links off to a main article about that building. Could that model work for you? --doncram (talk) 19:09, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Specifically, i'd like to request either articles be created for First Universalist Church (Elgin, Illinois), and Gifford-Davidson House, or an RFD to remove the redirects at those topics be pursued (so that they show as valid redlink topics in the corresponding county NRHP list-article and in the Elgin Historic District article. Likewise for others. I created some new NRHP stub articles for the Stolp Island-related individual NRHP places. --doncram (talk) 20:30, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Sorry for the delay; as of last week, my classes have started again so I'm busier than I was during the summer. I chose to create the redirects so that a person who was interested in the contributing properties would be able to have some architectural and historical context when they were redirected to the historic district. I intend to make articles on all properties that are both NRHP and in a HD, but I considered these articles to be of lower priority since some information was already available in the HD. Teemu08 (talk) 06:04, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, i see what you mean. However, I think it is a mistake to follow that course, mostly as it is misleading to other editors in seeming to imply that an editor has judged there should not be an article. I am uncomfortably all too involved in a long-running contention where another editor has systematically created redirects from NRHP redlink topics to other articles, for purpose of preventing the NRHP articles from being created. The language used in running arguments has sometimes been similar, "trying to direct readers to where there is some information" etc. Instead, I suggest either that you create minimal stub articles very quickly, that mention the larger historic district in a way that clearly directs readers interested in more to go to the HD article. Or, to leave them as redlinks, and add mention of the HD article to the NRHP county list-article's description column for the items. Those ways leave it clear to other local potential editors that pictures would be welcome, that the article topics are apparently valid, acceptably Wikipedia-notable topics, etc.
A separate reason against redirecting the NRHP article topics which applies for only some cases, is that redirects would invalidate entries covering the redlink topics in disambiguation pages. For example, the church one is listed in the First Universalist Church disambiguation page, where an entry in the form of "First Universalist Church (Elgin, Illinois), listed on the NRHP in Kane County, Illinois" was a valid disambiguation page entry. Although the article topic was then a redlink (now it has a stub article i think), the supporting bluelink to the Kane County list-article provided context and ensured the entry met strict rules that are enforced for disambiguation pages. If a redirect is created, then the entry is invalid by the complicated rules, and disambiguation-focussed editors can and will find and remove such entries. This is another way that creating a redirect would misdirect other editors and lead to dismantling of good supporting structure.
I could probably explain a few dozen other reasons, too, because i have been reluctantly forced to focus on this exact issue for so long elsewhere, but isn't that enough?  :) Anyhow, please say if you don't follow. Again, i do very much appreciate your building NRHP articles, and I've noticed your new article postings at wp:NRHP. Keep up the good work and all that! Cheers, --doncram (talk) 22:18, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Research into the user pages of Wikipedians: Invitation to participate[edit]

Greetings,

My name is John-Paul and I am a student with the University of Alberta specializing in Communications and Technology.

I would like to include your Wikipedia user page in a study I am doing about how people present themselves online. I am interested in whether people see themselves in different ways, online and offline. One of the things I am looking at is how contributors to Wikipedia present themselves to each other through their user pages. Would you consider letting me include your user page in my study?

With your consent, I will read and analyze your user page, and ask you five short questions about it that will take about ten to fifteen minutes to answer. I am looking at about twenty user pages belonging to twenty different people. I will be looking at all user pages together, looking for common threads in the way people introduce themselves to other Wikipedians.

I hope that my research will help answer questions about how people collaborate, work together, and share knowledge. If you are open to participating in this study, please reply to this message, on your User Talk page or on mine. I will provide you with a complete description of my research, which you can use to decide if you want to participate.

Thank-you,

File permission problem with File:Jefftweedy.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Jefftweedy.jpg.

If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 11:50, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Teemu08,

I'm helping to organize the Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Fall 2011 Photo Contest. I've also posted a general notice about the contest at WP:CHICAGO and am hoping that you and/or User:TonyTheTiger might sponsor a challenge in the contest related to the remaining 40 or so non-illustrated NRHP sites in Chicago, sites in Evanston, the rest of Cook County, or for the 5 county suburban area.

You might also want to help with the organization of Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Fall 2011 Photo Contest Best Photo. The idea is that every photographer will get a chance to show off 1 photo and that his or her peers will !vote in the best one. Due to the clumsiness of the !voting process with a large number of choices, we may have to limit the number of nominations in general, and the nominations of inexperienced editors in particular (but maybe not). I've never organized a process like this, but did manage to put up 10 very WP:Beansy rules for it. Any help here would be appreciated, and you should probably check with User:Ruhrfisch who will likely be the Sponsor/Judge.

Even though I now live near Philly, Chicago is my hometown. I contributed about 20 photos to the NRHP Chicago lists a couple of years ago, and a few more in suburban areas since then. It's a shame that Chicago, the most architecturally important city in the US, does not have a fully-illustrated NRHP list. So I take the Chicago list very seriously, and I'd be very much obliged if you posted a challenge at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Fall 2011 Photo Contest that reads something like this:

"A barnstar will be awarded to the editor who adds the most photos to the NRHP Chicago lists for previously non-illustrated sites"

The only work involved would be to determine the winner by "counting the diffs" that the participants will provide.

If you wanted to do something similar for the suburbs or the rest of Cook County, or TonyThe Tiger sponsors the Chicago challenge, that would be great too.

Any help on either part of this contest would be greatly appreciated.

Oskee Wow-Wow!

NRHP table format[edit]

Just checking that you are aware of the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Register_of_Historic_Places#Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012, concerning changing the format of the NRHP county tables. The underlying format may change, but the output in the county lists looks the same! In any case, your input could be useful. Smallbones (talk) 15:34, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Howard van Doren Shaw house at 5615 S. Woodlawn[edit]

You uploaded a nice photo of this Howard Van Doren Shaw house which is linked to in the list of his works. I think you have misidentified the house as one built in 1904 for James Henry Breasted. The only source I've been able to find on the subject lists this house as having been built in 1909 for Bertram Welton Sippy. (See The Architecture of Howard Van Doren Shaw by Virginia Greene, p. 51, which has a photograph of the house. The Greene book cites to an April 1915 article in Architectural Record.) This same source states that the Breasted House is at 5615 S. University (not Woodlawn). Any thoughts? --Sjsilverman (talk) 19:19, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Main page appearance: Sky Blue Sky[edit]

This is a note to let the main editors of Sky Blue Sky know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on May 15, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 15, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Wilco performing in support of Sky Blue Sky at Festival Internacional de Benicàssim

Sky Blue Sky is the sixth studio album by Chicago rock band Wilco (pictured), released on May 15, 2007 by Nonesuch Records. Originally announced on January 17, 2007 at a show in Nashville, Tennessee, it was the band's first studio album with guitarist Nels Cline and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone. Before its release, the band streamed the entire album on its official website and offered a free download of "What Light". Sky Blue Sky was Wilco's highest debuting album on the Billboard 200 at number four. The self-produced album received mostly favorable reviews by critics. Publications such as PopMatters and Rolling Stone praised its maturity, while PlayLouder and Pitchfork Media criticized its "dad-rock" sound. While some critics praised the direct lyrical approach, others criticised it when compared to previous Wilco albums. The band licensed six songs from the Sky Blue Sky sessions to a Volkswagen advertisement campaign, a move that generated criticism from fans and the media. (more...)

Main page appearance: Uncle Tupelo[edit]

This is a note to let the main editors of Uncle Tupelo know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on July 16, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/July 16, 2012.

Uncle Tupelo was an alternative country music group from Belleville, Illinois, active between 1987 and 1994. Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy, and Mike Heidorn formed the band after the lead singer of their previous band, The Primitives, left to attend college. The trio recorded three albums for Rockville Records, before signing with Sire Records and expanding to a five-piece. Shortly after the release of the band's major label debut album Anodyne, Farrar announced his decision to leave the band due to a soured relationship with his co-songwriter Tweedy. Uncle Tupelo split on May 1, 1994, after completing a farewell tour. Following the breakup, Farrar formed Son Volt with Heidorn, while the remaining members continued as Wilco. Although Uncle Tupelo broke up before they achieved commercial success, the band is renowned for its impact on the alternative country music scene. The group's first album, No Depression, became a byword for the genre and was widely influential. Uncle Tupelo's sound was unlike popular country music of the time, drawing inspiration from styles as diverse as the hardcore punk of The Minutemen and the country instrumentation and harmony of the Carter Family and Hank Williams. Farrar and Tweedy lyrics frequently referred to Middle America and the working class of Belleville. (more...)

Unused monuments page[edit]

Hi, I was pleased to see you putting my picture into National Register of Historic Places listings in Bergen County, New Jersey. Poor picture, but that's my fault. Amyway, what is this "unused monuments page"? Who fills it; who besides you acts upon it? Does it have description and discussion pages? Have I failed to notice an obvious link from another page?
