Hi! I’m a bit new here, still trying to figure out the ropes 😁. I was wonder how can I protect a page? I’ve had to return to the Murad IV page multiple times because people continue to vandalize it and leave false information. That’s no the only one too, it’s starting to get a bit frustrating.. @Darling dearest: Hi, and thanks for the message. Only administrators have the actual ability to protect pages from being edited. However, anyone is able to request that a page be protected at WP:RPP. In the case of the Murad IV page, it seems that it's only 1 IP who's made any edit that was reverted in the last 2 weeks, so it probably wouldn't be worth protecting. If that one IP is adding false information, there are a number of warnings that you can put on the user's talk page, which can be found here. In this circumstance, I recommend starting with {{subst:uw-error1}}, and if they continue, progress to {{subst:uw-error2}}. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they know about extended confirmed protection, and were trying to work up enough edits to get it. AfC - decline based on the main reason

Hi. I saw your decline of Draft:Learntek. That's the right decision, and it is true that there are no references in the article and it would need them. However the main issue is whether the subject is notable or not. If you decline based on notability then the message to the submitter includes advice about proper references. In the case of Learntek, the risk is that the author spends time adding references that verify what is written, but they don't receive any advice about notability so when they resubmit, the draft is declined for a new reason. Oh, and another tip: when you come across an article about a company such as this that looks like thinly veiled WP:PROMO, if you check the page history and there's only one contributor, as in this case, and that one contributor has only contributed to one article, as in this case, then you're looking at a WP:SPA that probably has a conflict of interest. If the editor has used their own name as their username then you can Google that and it will often show that they work for the company. If you come across that, which happens often, and they've not made a declaration on their user page then you can use the tag {{uw-paid1|Draft:Learntek}} on their talk page, as I've done now at User_talk:Tatavarthi_Anusha#Learntek. Yes. If you think that, based on the subject and content, notability would be in question then go for that one first. In my experience, less than 10% of articles we decline for notability are ever edited further, and they end up being deleted after six months of inactivity. That is because of people thinking Wikipedia is for free advertising, and they don't realise there would be anyone vetting new articles against inclusion criteria. Yeah, what happened is apparently an IP added a line break for the image parameter in the Hill Climb Racing video game article (likely accidentally), which removed the image and made it unused (I didn't realize this happened). Need to remove my photo from Commons

Hi SkyGazer,

Can you help, or put me in touch with the right person? I need to remove an image from Wiki Commons.

I have loaded an image into Wiki Commons at: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:O%27Connor_Sculpture_%26_Book.jpg.

However, after re-reading the Copyright Act, I now understand that I need permission from the artist's estate, to publish an image of her work, even though the photo is mine and I owned the sculpture at the time of taking the photo.

Please can you remove it or tell me how to do so?

@SurveyorMJF: I'm not an admin here or on the commons, so I can't actually delete anything (nor can you), but I do think I can tell you what I know as well as provide you with some links. You can view the Criteria for speedy deletion on the commons here. Unfortunately, general criteria 7 (author's request) won't work, because it was uploaded over a week ago. There are several criteria for file-specific speedy deletion, such as copyright violations and licensing laundering, but I'm not sure which would work well in this situation... it may be better to try to get in contact with a Commons admin directly and explain the situation. You can find a list of these here. Thanks guys for all your assistance. Crazy but true - in Australia the copyright for a work of art is a separate property right to the ownership of the work itself. This is not posing a problem for me in the current case - the owners of the copyright are in the process of giving me permission to publish my photo of the sculpture.

Hi Kudpung, I am aware that PERM is not at all RfA-style, and non-admins generally don't need to comment on whether a user's request will be done, not done, or when they think the candidate should come back to request at PERM, etc. However, I wasn't doing that here. The user was saying that they wanted to improve Wikipedia by making it a more reliable source. All I was doing is pointing out that there are endless ways that they can do this without the NPR right. Of course, if you think even that's non-helpful, I can refrain from doing it - but I was just thinking that the user may be unsure of what they can do without NPR, so I was trying to helpfully inform them, and I really didn't think it would hurt anything. I guess are you thinking that next time something like that should always go on their talk page? For that very reason (keeping NAC off the page), two years ago, I had a very sophosticated bot developed for PERM by a software engineer to take care of all but the research and decision the admin needs to make. It even has a built-in script for accordind or rejecting with canned responses. Your comment is extremely helpful - but on the user's talk page please. It will have the most impact there. Hi Tyw7 - are you talking about ones that were deleted via AfD or CSD? If it was deleted via AfD and recreated after the closure, then G4 applies. There's not a template in specific for recreation of material deleted via CSD - but often the reason for the original deletion applies. There isn't a more specific tag for speedy deleted articles that were recreated AFAIK, but there's not any problem with tagging the page for the previous reasons for speedy deletion, as long as they still apply. For example, if an article is speedy deleted per A7 and is recreated with very similar content, there's not really any benefit to tagging it with a criteria for "recreation of material that was speedy deleted" than there is just tagging it for A7 again. Also, if an article has been recreated multiple times, you can use {{Salt}}, to alert admins that the title probably should be protected from creation as well, once it's deleted. NCORP and GNG

To be a bit pedantic, NCORP is really just an elaboration of GNG in an organization/company specific context. Both GNG and NCORP require significant coverage in reliable independent secondary sources. This is unlike SNGs, e.g. WP:NSPORT, which are designed to offer a "shortcut" to establishing notability through some accomplishment. If a page passes NCORP it's going to pass GNG too basically by definition (in my reading). Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 15:06, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

There are some alternate criteria for WP:NCORP, but a lot of them are just variations on WP:GNG or reference another notability guideline instead. However, I did see a few guidelines that could possibly, in rare cases, allow for organizations to pass NCORP without pass GNG. Due to this, I thought it would just be helpful to specify that the specific article in question (IKASI) does not meet any of the criteria necessary to pass NCORP or GNG. Apologies for the terse comment. AirplaneHijackHacker is very likely a sock of SpicyCrazyJerk PornSexAssButtPiss (and a CU is looking into it). My point was that the numerous, ill-advised moves and changes the editor was making rendered any decision about the correct destination for a redirect moot until those changes were unwound and made consistent. The best approach at that late stage was to immediately undo any changes they made (even if some were later restored) so as to reduce the overall damage that needed ultimately to be fixed. I completely understand why you would do that and I agree. However, I don't see any problem with restoring the edit if another editor (me in this case) just happens to notice that it's a helpful edit. As for the SPI, I personally actually don't think check user evidence would be necessary -  it looks like a duck to me. But I guess it's always better to look into matters further, just to be safe, especially if it doesn't hurt to do so. Useful scripts for NPR

I just wanted to share a list of useful scripts for New Page Reviewing with you that I have been drafting for the next newsletter, as you can probably make use of them straight away:

• WP:Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget.
• User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js^(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to User:SkyGazer 512/common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page)
• User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js^(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (I recommend 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50).
• User:Primefac/revdel.js^(info): Is revdel annoying and time consuming? Install this script and deal with copyvios in the blink of an eye. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your Diff Ids and you can drop them into the script Popups.
• User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js^(info): Creates a "Page Curation" link to Special:NewPagesFeed up near your sandbox link.
• User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion.
• User:Evad37/rater.js^(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

Hi JarrahTree - are you saying that if an article is at AfD it shouldn't be reviewed or have tags added to it? If so, I actually disagree - from what I know, the point of new pages patrol is to mark articles as reviewed once problems have either been fixed or tagged for, and this is supported by the flowchart. Per WP:NPPLOG, "Any page that is tagged for speedy deletion, proposed for deletion, or nominated for discussion so editors do not waste time patrolling a new page that has already been patrolled." And as for the tagging part, it's still helpful for users who patrol maintenance categories to see ALL articles that would be in there, not just ones that are not undergoing AfD, and it's helpful for the page's creator to know what they can improve. Also, the point of a deletion discussion is to decide whether an article will be deleted or not - it doesn't make sense that we're not allowed to place any tags to indicate areas for improvement when there's a chance that the article is going to get kept. Hohlbach (Haidenaab)

Thank you for reviewing my new page Hohlbach (Haidenaab)! You asked on my talk page, whether I have more sources than just Google Maps. Actually, if you don't count OpenStreetMap and the disambiguation page Hohlbach on the German Wikipedia, I don't have any.

If you are interested in, I will tell you why I created this article nevertheless: I've noticed, that in English Wikipedia there exists a lot of German river articles that have simply been copied from the German Wikipedia, e.g. Hohlbach (Nidda). But in contrast to the German Wikipedia, the English Wikipedia did not had any other Hohlbach article. Therefore, either the article Hohlbach (Nidda) should be moved to Hohlbach, or one should create a disambiguation Hohlbach plus creating another Hohlbach (xxx) article so that this disambiguation makes sense. I thought the latter is more future-proof and also creating new articles about rivers is not a bad idea. Therefore, I've looked into the German disambiguation Hohlbach what Hohlbach (xxx) I could create. I've found there the Hohlbach being a tributary of the Nidda as well as a hin to another Hohlbach river being a tributary to the Haidenaab. Therefore, I've created then both the Hohlbach (Haidenaab) and the disambiguation Hohlbach.

Sorry, I just deleted this as soft delete, because I misread the date on your relist, thinking it had been relisted for a week with no comments, and hence it could be soft deleted since nobody seemed to care about keeping it. Open AfDs get put in a queue that gets updated every hour, and if you don't look at one carefully, it's easy to misread it. @Ritchie333: I personally would say it's up to you. I have no particularly interest on the subject - I just was patrolling AfDs and noticed that this was a relatively new one which did not have any participation after a week of being open. I also would like to ask you if you know about citation templates. They can be accessed by clicking "cite" in the editing toolbar, and pick one of the templates from the menu: cite web, cite news, cite book, and cite journal. I noticed you recently gave this new article a "start" quality rating. I appreciate this, and I was curious as to whether my other article Pajanelia should be reassessed as well. I say this as Pajanelia has a far more elaborated sections, has better sources and all around better and more information for the reader, but is still a stub, this review left over from when it had very little information. NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018

Hello SkyGazer 512, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.

Project news

• The New Page Feed now has a new "Articles for Creation" option which will show drafts instead of articles in the feed, this shouldn't impact NPP activities and is part of the WMF's AfC Improvement Project.

As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.

• There are a number of coordination tasks for New Page Patrol that could use some help from experienced reviewers. See Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Coordination#Coordinator tasks for more info to see if you can help out.

Other

• A new summary page of reliable sources has been created; Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources/Perennial sources, which summarizes existing RfCs or RSN discussions about regularly used sources.

Moving to Draft and Page Mover

• Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
• If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
• Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
• The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js^(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
• The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.

List of other useful scripts for New Page Reviewing

Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget. In terms of other gadgets for NPR, HotCat is worth turning on. It allows you to easily add, remove, and change categories on a page, with name suggestions. MoreMenu also adds a bunch of very useful links for diagnosing and fixing page issues. User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to your common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page) User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (Recommended 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50). User:Primefac/revdel.js(info): Is requesting revdel complicated and time consuming? This script helps simplify the process. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your diff IDs and you can drop them into the script Popups and it will create a revdel request for you. User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js(info): Creates a "Page Curation" link to Special:NewPagesFeed up near your sandbox link. User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion. User:Evad37/rater.js(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

In this case, it would be Special:WhatLinksHere/Mini Qutub Minar. You can quickly access this page by clicking the "What links here" option in the tools section of the left sidebar. To check whether something's actually an orphan or not, set the "Namespace" to only (article); an article is still an orphan if it's only linked to from non-article namespace pages or only disambiguation pages or hatnotes. In normal circumstances, your changes would be auto accepted, but because an IP had made an edit before you that was still awaiting review, it showed up as unaccepted. I accepted the change because it did not contain vandalism, copyright violations, or BLP violations. However, after looking at the edit more closely, factual information was changed without a source. So my question is, do you have a source stating that the planned release date has changed? If so, then you should add it to the page. If not, then the information will have to be reverted to what it was before per WP:VERIFIABILITY. Let me know if you have any further questions. Reasoning behind my edit at Sivapanthera

I reverted the edits made by 140.0.186.98 (talk⁺ · tag · contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RBLs · proxy check · block user · block log · cross-wiki contribs · CheckUser (log)) at Sivapanthera because it's in an IP range misused/abused by an IP-hopping vandal who tends to spam pages with incorrect, inappropriate, and or nonexistent categories. I've adopted a policy to revert all of its edits on any active IP, as per WP:DENY, as combing through its edit histories to preserve the precious few good edits while reverting its many bad edits is the Wikipedia equivalent of panning for gold in raw sewage.--Mr Fink (talk) 20:49, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

I've been dealing with this particular vandal for over a decade, and I've discovered that, as whenever it is blocked at one IP, it either moves to a new IP, or it literally simply waits until that blocked IP's block expires and begins again. I've also observed how it also uses more than one IP range, hence my mentioning it uses three to four large IP-ranges. That, and you are, in fact, misunderstanding me, as, I only revert and only advocate reverting those edits of one of the problem IPs or IP-ranges when it is clear that the vandal in question is active. • Following a request for comment, the process for appointing interface administrators has been established. Currently only existing admins can request these rights, while a new RfC has begun on whether it should be available to non-admins.
• There is an open request for comment on Meta regarding the creation a new user group for global edit filter management.

Technical news

• Partial blocks should be available for testing in October on the Test Wikipedia and the Beta-Cluster. This new feature allows admins to block users from editing specific pages and in the near-future, namespaces and uploading files. You can expect more updates and an invitation to help with testing once it is available.
• The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team is currently looking for input on how to measure the effectiveness of blocks. This is in particular related to how they will measure the success of the aforementioned partial blocks.
• Because of a data centre test, you will be able to read but not edit the Wikimedia projects for up to an hour on 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time.

Arbitration

• The Arbitration Committee has, by motion, amended the procedure on functionary inactivity.
• The community consultation for 2018 CheckUser and Oversight appointments has concluded. Appointments will be made by October 11.
• Following a request for comment, the size of the Arbitration Committee will be decreased to 13 arbitrators, starting in 2019. Additionally, the minimum support percentage required to be appointed to a two-year term on ArbCom has been increased to 60%. ArbCom candidates who receive between 50% and 60% support will be appointed to one-year terms instead.
• Nominations for the 2018 Arbitration Committee Electoral Commission are being accepted until 12 October. These are the editors who help run the ArbCom election smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering for this role, please consider nominating yourself.

Hi, Marebalti! Thank you very much for the pizza and for leaving me a message here. Unfortunately, I still don't believe that the article passes our notability guidelines yet. Wikipedia has strict guidelines as to what sources an article needs to have in order to be consider notable, and they're even stricter for companies. You can see WP:NCORP for a more detailed explanation, particularly the section WP:ORGIND. I don't think that any of the current sources satisfy the criteria listed there.

The main problem with all of the current sources is that none of them are independent of the subject. They're mostly either the subject's website, or the website of castles/museums that are incorporated by The Association of Castles and Museums around the Baltic Sea. What you really need are multiple good, clearly reliable sources that are not affiliated with the company in any way, which clearly pass the criteria at WP:NCORP. If these can't be found, then I don't think that this subject would be suitable for Wikipedia. Please don't get discouraged because of this. The notability guidelines on Wikipedia are very strict. There are a number of easily-notable articles that have not yet been created, but this may not be one of them. I can give you a list if you want, and I'd be willing to help you create them. If you're looking for improvements to make, I would suggest expanding the lead to a full paragraph which summarizes the article as a whole, and maybe see if you can find any information about his early life before college. Project updates

• ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
• There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

• User:Enterprisey/cv-revdel.js^(info) — A new script created for quickly placing {{copyvio-revdel}} on a page.

Hey PajaBG; it appears that the topic has received significant coverage in multiple reliable sources which are cited in the article, so it meets the general notability guideline. Hi. Take all the time you need, it is not an emergency. Not even close to an emergency :) The first one is this: Hospitals. I am not sure it will survive online, especially since there is only one source, good and detailed, though. I have started articles with only one source before and some developed nicely later (Latin lover). If you think it can survive like this as the core of an article, I might dig a bit more on the subject. If it’s better to be a part of something like Hospitals in Beglrade, I absolutely have no time for that at the moment, so I will keep it as it is for now. Thanks again and drive safely. @PajaBG: Yeah, the Hospitals article does definitely look nice, and it's a rather interesting topic as well. Hospitals in Belgrade as a title could work; there are similar articles that do exist, such as Hospitals in Thailand. However, I do think more than one source would definitely be beneficial, particularly because there is so much material supported by the single source. Would you be able to find any other sources? Based on the scope of the topic, it doesn't seem likely that the source you have would be the only one that covers anything in the article, though it may be more difficult to find others. Also, try to make sure that every paragraph is sourced, so that all information can be verified. Hello. I know the drill of how an article should look like and be referenced, I wrote my first back in 2006 ;) Would there be a point in creating a page "18th century hospitals in Belgrade", the core of which would be what I already have, but expanded and referenced as much as I can? Or rather general "Hospitals in Belgrade" and filling only the 18th century section?

The other one I wanted to ask you about is this: Night life. I deliberately stopped with the 1990s because that is where the major sources I used also stop but also as I didn't want it to look like an advertising for the existing venues since almost all clubs mentioned are today closed or renamed. Names of the sections (Shy 1960s, etc.) are not mine, they are from the major source I used. Also, as with the hospitals, if worthy of being posted, should it be "20th century nighlife in Belgrade", "Origins of nightlife in Belgrade" or "Belgrade nightlife" with 21st century section empty... Hmm, I don't know what the best title would be PajaBG. I'm not sure if it would be great to have it as "18th century hospitals in Belgrade" when the articles for other centuries don't exist, but I'm not sure if simply "Hospitals in Belgrade" would be the best if you're only covering the 18th century. I'd say it's up to you. The night life article looks great as well, it looks like you worked hard on it; but I'm not sure about the best title for this one either. I asked you these things cause you are reviewing new articles, so I guess you have a better idea about the titles and stuff, in the cases when I myself am not sure what’s better and need some advice. I will keep the hospitals as it is for now, maybe some nice source with the older/newer periods will come into my hands and then I will see. As for the nightlife, I will give it a try. I will write an intro and add the 21st century section with an “empty section” template. Sounds like a good plan; thank you for your work. As you probably know, it's fine if they're not completed as soon as they're in the mainspace; Wikipedia is never finished, and other users can always chip on and add material which you can't find as much information about. Do remember, though, that just because I am a new page reviewer, that does not mean that I necessarily have a better idea about titles and stuff than non-reviewers; literately all new page reviewers are, are normal users who have the ability to mark pages as reviewed. The edits you made didn't follow that policy, particularly due to the inclusion first person (we) and several peacock terms. However, the more pressing matter here was the fact that your edit was a copyright violation. It was directly copied from https://www.cardno.com/about-us/who-we-are/our-history/, which as stated here, has an "all rights reserved" policy. Wikipedia's policies don't allow us to add content copied from elsewhere unless its license is compattible with Wikipedia, and persistent violators of this policy may be blocked from editing. Hello Spots11! I explained why it was a copyright violation in the post above; it was copied from a website that does not have a license compatible with Wikipedia. The link I provided explained more details. In your latest response, you have said two things. The first is that your editing on behalf of Cardno, which gives the impression of paid-editing. Per WP:PAID, you must disclose this on your user page in accordance with Wikimedia's terms of use. The second thing you said is that this is "Cardno's Wikipedia account." Shared accounts, unfortunately, are not permitted on Wikipedia. Per WP:SHARED, evidence of doing so will result in the user being required to stop the practice and change their password, or in sanctions (up to and including the account being blocked). Also, because you have a conflict of interest with the subject, it's strongly recommended that you don't edit the page directly and instead make edit requests on the talk page which are supported by a source. In short, I'm not sure if you understand the purpose of Wikipedia. We are an encyclopedia who's purpose is for independent editors to write about notable topics based off of what reliable sources say. Our purpose isn't for companies to write about themselves, copying material from their websites which are promotional in tone. All material should be verifiable, written in your own words, written from a neutral point of view, and preferably by independent editors. The five pillars, particular 1-3, summarize this very nicely.

So, to answer your question, yes, there is a way to update the content again! However, it must be reliably sourced, completely written in your own words with no close paraphrasing, neutral and not promotional in tone, and you should request the edit on the talk page due to the conflict of interest. Also, per WP:Verifiability, not truth, you should not update the page just because you know through personal experiences how the company has been updated; the material must be supported by sources. But you should only do this after you have disclosed your paid editing and you have either created a new account for only you or changed your password so that you are the only one editing from this account. This post may come across as harsh, so I hope you don't interpret it offensively, as that's not at all what I mean for it to be; I'm just trying to be clear and direct. I was hoping you had better access to sources; I can't even get the HRM website to load for me (to name one). Hey Elfabet. I tagged it for deletion per WP:A7 and WP:G11, but they removed the template. I was going to add it back, but I noticed that you had added an slightly different delete template already. :) I think {{salt}} should generally only be used if the page has been deleted before, rather than if the speedy template has been removed before. If the user continues with this promo, I'll probably take them to WP:ANI or WP:AIV per WP:NOTHERE. You're indeed correct about WP:DENY, Abelmoschus Esculentus. In fact, as soon as I had tagged the second sock's user page for speedy deletion, I actually thought "This is probably feeding the trolls by notifying them about the speedy deletion; I probably shouldn't do it next time." I don't know why I had never thought about that before, but thanks for letting me know and I definitely will not notify these socks in the future. Jsyk, it's not necessary to tag with only G5, there's an option when tagging a page for speedy deletion to "Notify page creator if possible," which is on by default but can be deselected. This option can be deselected even when tagging for criteria other than G5 or tagging multiple criteria. Thanks again for letting me know and for your work with battling LTAs and vandals. Help please!

I just still need a other help regarding this situation. Web SourceContent were locked globally by Tegel after it got locally blocked by Bbb23 on September 27th, as sock of Daciproteasa09 (different vandal). In the fact, that this user were also moving around wikis, but WSContent did nothing to pose cross-wiki vandalism, such as threats or trolling. I just learn details regarding this case from Tegel's talk page how this block for Web SourceContent (formerly Sourcecontent1 since 2016) were occured at near-end of September 2018. I understand that Bbb23 CU block would not be applied without good or other reasons (that CU/admin should place the block announcement on their talk page of indef. blocked user), as per your comment. Possibly, this case is known to be related to good and bad hand criteria. Second, to get account recovered, I must familiar with WP:OFFER, and to wait six months without further socks or evasions. This does seem like a case of good-hand-bad-hand accounts to me, and like you pointed out, that is a form of sockpuppetry. The only thing I see in red there is the dead link to 2020 National Invitation Tournament. The reason why the link is red is because it's a dead link as the 2020 page has not been created yet; probably because 2020 is so far away, there's little information and sources, or not enough information and sources out there, to write a notable article about it. Hey there! I appreciate your reaching out, but I'm not sure what you mean by being familiar with this particular situation. I never declined/commented on the draft or edited the page. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to do an in-depth look; but a few important issues I've noticed are that a lot of the article reads like an advertisement, there are multiple unsourced statements, and many of the references are simply about Krav Maga rather than the federation as a whole. Hey there Alvanhholmes! Thanks for messaging me and being willing to help out Wikipedia. I'd be happy to tell you how I created the "Oh no what did I do this time" part of my sig. This post may seem kind of long, so just bare with me here. As a whole, the following code is used to produce the second part of my sig that I mentioned:

We can divide that into 5 parts.

The first part is the coding ^{. What this does is it makes any text that follows it but precedes a closing} tag in superscript.

The second part is the coding <span style="background: linear-gradient(aqua, #d580ff);">. An opening <span> tag allows for setting a number of properties to any text following it but preceding a closing </span> tag. The span style is what's most often used, followed by an equals sign, followed by whatever coding is used to make the text have the certain properties, with the coding being within quotation marks. Different properties within the quotes are separated with a semicolon.

In this case, the only property I am using is background, which sets the background color. As you can see, I set the background to linear-gradient(aqua, #d580ff). Now, this gets a bit complicated here. Linear-gradient is an interesting piece of coding; essentially what it does is allows the background color to have a certain color at the top of the text, and slowly fade into another color at the bottom. As you can see, I've set it so that the top is aqua colored, hence "aqua" after the parentheses but before the comma. After the comma, I have my bottom color. You will see that it's not actually a word, but instead #d580ff. This is a hexidecimal code which helps determine a more specific color rather than the normal "red," "orange," "green," etc. This particular hexidemical code creates sort of a lighter purplelish color.

So summarizing that all, we have <span style="background: linear-gradient(aqua, #d580ff);">. The span style sets the background color, which is aqua at the top, fading into the purpelish color, #d580ff in hexadecimal, by the bottom.

The third part is the coding [[User talk:SkyGazer 512|Oh no, what did I do this time?]]. This one's a bit more simple than the previous one. Basically, in order to create a link that displays different text than what the target page for the link is, you produce the following coding: [[Link target|Text to display]]. In this case, the target link is my talk page, which is User talk:SkyGazer 512, and the text that I want to display to users is "Oh no, what did I do this time?."

The fourth part is simply </span>. This just closes the span tag I mentioned earlier in the second part, so that no text further than this will be affected by the coding within the opening span tag.

The fifth part is </sup>, which closes the opening <sup> tag, meaning that any text further than this will not be in superscript.

Did I explain that okay? It's a rather difficult topic to explain, so please let me know if you need clarification on any of this. However, my userpage has been vandalized a lot recently and having it de facto semi-protected saves time from vandalism fighters; also, the fact remains that nobody's made a single constructive edit to it since it's been unlocked. Due to this, it is probably true that having it unlocked does more harm than it does good, so I've removed the template from it. SkyGazer 512, I make it a habit of removing all the warnings on pages I'm working on. My standard ploy is checking the Talk pages and then saying "sorry, no discussion posted since 2013 so must be driveby tagging". There seems to have been a big push in 2010 to globalize everything, so I see lots of those.

Advice re vandalism, please

One of my pages is repeatedly vandalized by someone who removes true information and substitutes irrelevant and/or false information.

The section that is being repeatedly changed is Paternal ancestors - Nevin and Hurst. One of my paragraphs has been completely deleted, and another has been added to with errors/irrelevant info which should be on the Talk page for discussion/consensus, not in the main page. @SurveyorMJF: I assume you're talking about the edits made by the IPs 120.17.214.249 and 1.129.111.88? If the edits are incorrect based off of the sources or are removing clearly correct information supported by sources, then feel free to just revert them and add back the correct information. However, user blocks or page protects would likely not be necessary at this point; the IPs stopped editing in May, 7 months ago. One thing to be careful of is what is called vandalism and what isn't. Vandalism is the act of deliberately, maliciously harming Wikipedia; for anything else, you should generally assume good faith. A lot of times, something may look like vandalism but isn't; I haven't looked extremely closely at the specifics for this page, but simply not following policies or guidelines is generally not vandalism. If this happens again in the future, you can first revert the edits. Then, if they are clear vandalism you can warn the user using the templates listed at WP:User warnings, i.e. {{uw-vandalism1}} — {{uw-vandalism4}}. If it's not vandalism, you can do so as well but using different warnings (e.g. {{uw-unsourced}}); however, for good-faith edits, it's sometimes better to write a personalized message. Warning the users now likely wouldn't do any good, but if they continue in the future it could help. If a user may be acting in good faith, they generally shouldn't be blocked until they have been warned sufficiently. Does this help you out a bit? If you have any more specific questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them. Thanks for taking a look and advising me. I should have mentioned that in June and August 2017 this vandal deleted correct information and inserted spurious info. A Wiki editor with higher powers, Kind Tennis Fan, restored the page each time & told the vandal to use the Talk page to seek consensus. And that person found out my real world identity and attacked me wildly via email, also writing all sorts of slanderous untruths to the editors of journals I have written for. So the current alterations and deletions are not 'in good faith'. But I will correct the errors, as you suggest. I guess that this worry and extra work is exactly what the vandal is after! Guideline and policy news

• Following a request for comment, the Mediation Committee is now closed and will no longer be accepting case requests.
• A request for comment is in progress to determine whether members of the Bot Approvals Group should satisfy activity requirements in order to remain in that role.
• A request for comment is in progress regarding whether to change the administrator inactivity policy, such that administrators "who have made no logged administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped". Currently, the policy states that administrators "who have made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped".
• A proposal has been made to temporarily restrict editing of the Main Page to interface administrators in order to mitigate the impact of compromised accounts.

Technical news

• Administrators and bureaucrats can no longer unblock themselves unless they placed the block initially. This change has been implemented globally. See also this ongoing village pump discussion (permalink).
• To complement the aforementioned change, blocked administrators will soon have the ability to block the administrator that placed their block to mitigate the possibility of a compromised administrator account blocking all other active administrators.
• Since deployment of Partial blocks on Test Wikipedia, several bugs were identified. Most of them are now fixed. Administrators are encouraged to test the new deployment and report new bugs on Phabricator or leave feedback on the Project's talk page. You can request administrator access on the Test Wiki here.

Arbitration

• Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee Elections is open to eligible editors until Monday 23:59, 3 December 2018. Please review the candidates and, if you wish to do so, submit your choices on the voting page.

Miscellaneous

• In late November, an attacker compromised multiple accounts, including at least four administrator accounts, and used them to vandalize Wikipedia. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. Sharing the same password across multiple websites makes your account vulnerable, especially if your password was used on a website that suffered a data breach. As these incidents have shown, these concerns are not pure fantasies.
• Wikipedia policy requires administrators to have strong passwords. To further reinforce security, administrators should also consider enabling two-factor authentication. A committed identity can be used to verify that you are the true account owner in the event that your account is compromised and/or you are unable to log in.

Obituaries

• Shock Brigade Harvester Boris (Raymond Arritt) passed away on 14 November 2018. Boris joined Wikipedia as Raymond arritt on 8 May 2006 and was an administrator from 30 July 2007 to 2 June 2008.

Hello Cherish Chukwu; thanks for reaching out. As I mentioned at the Teahouse, Wikipedia isn't the place to write about yourself. The notability guidelines we have are strict. In order for a person to be notable, in almost all cases they must have significant coverage in multiple reliable sources which are independent of the subject. However, there is an even stricter guideline which basically says that even if someone received significant coverage in multiple reliable, independent sources, they are not notable if the only reason they meet this guideline is because of a single event, see WP:BLP1E and WP:BIO1E for more information. Very few people do have Wikipedia articles, not having one is nothing personal. It's just that due to the fact that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia; it exists to document subjects that reliable sources have already covered in detail, not to give someone more publicity. Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. Really, all you need to know is found on this page. The title of it is "Your first article" and it's meant to be a step-by-step guide for editors who may not be extremely familiar with Wikipedia but want to create a new article. Once you've read that, go to the Article Wizard. Here, you'll be able to create a draft which once you're ready to submit for review, add the coding {{subst:submit}} to the bottom of it. Is there something in specific in this process that you need help with? An article can't be published unless you've already written it as a draft as we don't know what the content is. Block evasion?

Regarding this edit, what makes you think the IP is evading a block? Also, I note you haven't (as of the time I post this; though you may be in the process of doing it) posted to the IP's talk page with any warning or explanation. @ONUnicorn: Full reply here: To me, it seems clear that they're User:Vote (X) for Change, an LTA who I've been handling for a while. I could understand where you may not think that the IP is evading a block if you're not familiar with VXFC, as VXFC is a bit different than other LTAs; e.g. they don't just replace a bunch of pages with "poop." It's not necessarily that one edit to the help desk that proves that they're evading a block, but rather their overall stream of editing and their location. First off, there's their location. I've compared the IP to various other IPs of VXFC on various IP locator tools and WHOIS, particularly this one as it edited as recently as yesterday (it was also blocked for 36 hours yesterday by Future Perfect at Sunrise). Pretty much everything puts both of those IPs in the exact same location, much more specific than simply a district in London; in fact, WHOIS reveals very specific stuff, which I would have thought would be a privacy violation.

And, now we have behavior evidence. This edit was what made me confident that this IP was VXFC; although many of the other edits were very similar to what VXFC, I probably wouldn't report the IP just based off of those. First off, they posted an oppose to the same proposal yesterday right here, from the 2a00:23c5:318d:5200:b86e:811b:6347:977c IP which, as I mentioned before, is from the exact same location. One of the key behaviors of VXFC is to participate in discussions, such as those kinds of proposals. One thing that I've noticed with VXFC, in these situations, is that they don't just start by explaining simple reasoning; they'll make a big deal out of their support or oppose, using metaphors, sarcasm, etc., a characteristic that I've rarely seen outside of VXFC for a proposal like this. You can see this in action in both of the posts to oppose the Ref Desk protection proposal they made from the different IPs.

Yet another key characteristic is their replying to Ref Desk posts, although again, I wouldn't report them for this reason alone. The posts are usually disguised as an innocent, but once you've seen a bunch of them you can kind of get an idea of what kind of posts they like to make. This particular post seemed to fit right in with what VXFC likes to do on the Ref Desks. There are a number of smaller things as well. For example, the way both of the IPs I've been mentioning reverted my removal of the VPPR within the same time interval with a similar edit summary, the way both of them commented on the AIV report (how would a "new" user even know what AIV is or that they were reported there?), how they were making their edits at the exact same time of day, the list goes on...

In short, I find it hard to believe that - with this IP's only behavior being an almost repetition of what other VXFC IP socks have done and the fact that the two IPs used in comparison are in the exact same location - this is not actually VXFC, which is why I reverted and reported. If you have any more questions at all about this I'd be more than happy to answer them; if you want further evidence, need clarification, think I misworded something, etc. Again, for this particular circumstance, Alexf has blocked the IP for 36 hours for block evasion. To answer the other part of your question, the reason I didn't warn them is because with a persistent LTA like this, I think it's very likely that all they would do in response is just make lengthy posts with nonsense like they normally do, make up excuses, etc.... and do no actual good, so I thought reverting, reporting them, and then just leaving them alone would be more in accordance with WP:DENY. :-) Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 ^{Oh no, what did I do this time?} 18:57, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
