Hi! I’m a bit new here, still trying to figure out the ropes 😁. I was wonder how can I protect a page? I’ve had to return to the Murad IV page multiple times because people continue to vandalize it and leave false information. That’s no the only one too, it’s starting to get a bit frustrating.. Thank you in advance! (Darling dearest (talk) 03:20, 3 July 2018 (UTC)) Darling dearest (talk) 03:20, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

@Darling dearest: Hi, and thanks for the message. Only administrators have the actual ability to protect pages from being edited. However, anyone is able to request that a page be protected at WP:RPP. In the case of the Murad IV page, it seems that it's only 1 IP who's made any edit that was reverted in the last 2 weeks, so it probably wouldn't be worth protecting. If that one IP is adding false information, there are a number of warnings that you can put on the user's talk page, which can be found here. In this circumstance, I recommend starting with , and if they continue, progress to . I hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any other questions!--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 12:37, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Thank you! You seem to be doing this to a lot of users and bot-like speeds, though, so I guess I won't take this as anything special. :P--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 22:16, 7 July 2018 (UTC)
FYI: They're a sockpuppet. —DoRD (talk) 15:36, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
Good to know, thx. Don't know why they were doing that, though. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they know about extended confirmed protection, and were trying to work up enough edits to get it. They ended up only getting up to 50, though, before they got blocked. :)--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 15:43, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
There's no telling what motivates people like that, but I suspect that with that account name (About to be ban[ne]d) they were just being disruptive for the sake of being disruptive. —DoRD (talk) 15:50, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

AfC - decline based on the main reason

Hi. I saw your decline of Draft:Learntek. That's the right decision, and it is true that there are no references in the article and it would need them. However the main issue is whether the subject is notable or not. If you decline based on notability then the message to the submitter includes advice about proper references. In the case of Learntek, the risk is that the author spends time adding references that verify what is written, but they don't receive any advice about notability so when they resubmit, the draft is declined for a new reason. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 15:01, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

Oh, and another tip: when you come across an article about a company such as this that looks like thinly veiled WP:PROMO, if you check the page history and there's only one contributor, as in this case, and that one contributor has only contributed to one article, as in this case, then you're looking at a WP:SPA that probably has a conflict of interest. If the editor has used their own name as their username then you can Google that and it will often show that they work for the company. If you come across that, which happens often, and they've not made a declaration on their user page then you can use the tag Draft:Learntek on their talk page, as I've done now at User_talk:Tatavarthi_Anusha#Learntek. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 15:13, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

@Curb Safe Charmer: I appreciate you taking the time to give me these tips. Although I obviously agree with your conclusions, I had thought improperly sourced should be used when there are no sources to look at to see whether the article is notable or not, and the notability one is for when the article has sources, but they do not demonstrate notability.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 15:27, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
The notability decline will produce this guidance for the user:
So it covers both bases. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 15:35, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
@Curb Safe Charmer: Well, that is true. :) So do you think it's better to use the notability decline notice when there are no sources at all instead of the unsourced/improperly sourced one?--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 15:39, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
Yes. If you think that, based on the subject and content, notability would be in question then go for that one first. In my experience, less than 10% of articles we decline for notability are ever edited further, and they end up being deleted after six months of inactivity. That is because of people thinking Wikipedia is for free advertising, and they don't realise there would be anyone vetting new articles against inclusion criteria. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 15:45, 12 July 2018 (UTC)
Alright, I'll do that when I can in the future. Thanks!--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 15:50, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Hill Climb Racing Game Icon.png

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Hill Climb Racing Game Icon.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:27, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, what happened is apparently an IP added a line break for the image parameter in the Hill Climb Racing video game article (likely accidentally), which removed the image and made it unused (I didn't realize this happened). I now undid the IP's edit, so everything should be good now. :)--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 17:45, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Need to remove my photo from Commons

Hi SkyGazer,

Can you help, or put me in touch with the right person? I need to remove an image from Wiki Commons.

I have loaded an image into Wiki Commons at: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:O%27Connor_Sculpture_%26_Book.jpg.

However, after re-reading the Copyright Act, I now understand that I need permission from the artist's estate, to publish an image of her work, even though the photo is mine and I owned the sculpture at the time of taking the photo.

Please can you remove it or tell me how to do so?

Many thanks,SurveyorMJF (talk) 00:34, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

@SurveyorMJF: I'm not an admin here or on the commons, so I can't actually delete anything (nor can you), but I do think I can tell you what I know as well as provide you with some links. You can view the Criteria for speedy deletion on the commons here. Unfortunately, general criteria 7 (author's request) won't work, because it was uploaded over a week ago. There are several criteria for file-specific speedy deletion, such as copyright violations and licensing laundering, but I'm not sure which would work well in this situation... it may be better to try to get in contact with a Commons admin directly and explain the situation. You can find a list of these here. There is a Commons help desk, so if you want to first post a new topic there you might get some helpful replies.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 13:25, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
Thank you SkyGazer. That is very helpful. I have written on the Talk page of Jarrah Tree, who is an Commons Admin and often helps me. But my message has gone to his/her Archived Talk page, so I don't know if it will be seen. Could you possibly mention that Jarah Tree, for me? Thanks again, for your kind help. SurveyorMJF (talk) 19:55, 31 July 2018 (UTC)
@SurveyorMJF: Hmm, to me it looks like you posted it on the normal talk page and it's still there - I'm not seeing that it's been archived or anything. commons:User talk:JarrahTree. I'll ping JarrahTree to this discussion, though.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 00:01, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
hmmm, looks crazy to me... will consult someone who has better understanding. JarrahTree 04:15, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks guys for all your assistance. Crazy but true - in Australia the copyright for a work of art is a separate property right to the ownership of the work itself. This is not posing a problem for me in the current case - the owners of the copyright are in the process of giving me permission to publish my photo of the sculpture.
More info at: https://www.copyright.org.au/ACC_Prod/ACC/Information_Sheets/Artists___Copyright.aspx?WebsiteKey=8a471e74-3f78-4994-9023-316f0ecef4ef SurveyorMJF (talk) 07:48, 1 August 2018 (UTC)
BTW, that restriction does not apply to works of art that are "public" - e.g. on display in public places.
Could the image in question please be taken down. I'll upload another, when the written permission gets to be from the copyright owners. Very sorry for the fuss. I live and learn! ... SurveyorMJF (talk) 02:52, 2 August 2018 (UTC)

PERM

Hi. PERM is not an RfA style discussion and commenting is generally reserved for admins. Also, many users never check back to see why their request has been declined. However, if you were to consider leaving a message on the users talk page, it would be much appreciated. Happy editing! Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:06, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi Kudpung, I am aware that PERM is not at all RfA-style, and non-admins generally don't need to comment on whether a user's request will be done, not done, or when they think the candidate should come back to request at PERM, etc. However, I wasn't doing that here. The user was saying that they wanted to improve Wikipedia by making it a more reliable source. All I was doing is pointing out that there are endless ways that they can do this without the NPR right. Of course, if you think even that's non-helpful, I can refrain from doing it - but I was just thinking that the user may be unsure of what they can do without NPR, so I was trying to helpfully inform them, and I really didn't think it would hurt anything. I guess are you thinking that next time something like that should always go on their talk page? That would be okay with me, it would just be nice to clarify. :)--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 13:08, 4 August 2018 (UTC)
For that very reason (keeping NAC off the page), two years ago, I had a very sophosticated bot developed for PERM by a software engineer to take care of all but the research and decision the admin needs to make. It even has a built-in script for accordind or rejecting with canned responses. Your comment is extremely helpful - but on the user's talk page please. It will have the most impact there. He needs it too, there was so much CIR, he hadn't even read the basic instructions. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 20:56, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Recreation of deleted material

Just curious, is there a relevant CSD tag for deleted articles re-created with the same content? --Tyw7 (🗣️ Talk) — If (reply) then (ping me) 14:32, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi Tyw7 - are you talking about ones that were deleted via AfD or CSD? If it was deleted via AfD and recreated after the closure, then G4 applies. There's not a template in specific for recreation of material deleted via CSD - but often the reason for the original deletion applies. You've already added the CSD template for the original reasons for deletion (G11 and A7), in this case.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:38, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
Fair enough. I was just wondering if there's a more specfic tag for re-created articles. And I was talking about CSD as in the case of IKASI--Tyw7 (🗣️ Talk) — If (reply) then (ping me) 14:41, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
There isn't a more specific tag for speedy deleted articles that were recreated AFAIK, but there's not any problem with tagging the page for the previous reasons for speedy deletion, as long as they still apply. For example, if an article is speedy deleted per A7 and is recreated with very similar content, there's not really any benefit to tagging it with a criteria for "recreation of material that was speedy deleted" than there is just tagging it for A7 again. Also, if an article has been recreated multiple times, you can use Salt, to alert admins that the title probably should be protected from creation as well, once it's deleted. Hope this helps.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:46, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

NCORP and GNG

To be a bit pedantic, NCORP is really just an elaboration of GNG in an organization/company specific context. Both GNG and NCORP require significant coverage in reliable independent secondary sources. This is unlike SNGs, e.g. WP:NSPORT, which are designed to offer a "shortcut" to establishing notability through some accomplishment. If a page passes NCORP it's going to pass GNG too basically by definition (in my reading). Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 15:06, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

There are some alternate criteria for WP:NCORP, but a lot of them are just variations on WP:GNG or reference another notability guideline instead. However, I did see a few guidelines that could possibly, in rare cases, allow for organizations to pass NCORP without pass GNG. Due to this, I thought it would just be helpful to specify that the specific article in question (IKASI) does not meet any of the criteria necessary to pass NCORP or GNG. But for the most part, you are probably right that if an orginization does not meet GNG, it's unlikely to meet NCORP.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 15:18, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

AirplaneHijackHacker

How about we sort out the sock's edits after they've been blocked? At this point, I will revert any changes they make. General Ization Talk 00:40, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi General Ization - if you think it should be re-reverted due to the fact that they probably are a sock after all, I hold no objections to you reverting my revert. I do agree that it seems likely that they are a sockpuppet, but the specific edit was actually constructive. Anyways, they've now been blocked indefinitely for disruptive editing.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 00:57, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
Apologies for the terse comment. AirplaneHijackHacker is very likely a sock of SpicyCrazyJerk PornSexAssButtPiss (and a CU is looking into it). My point was that the numerous, ill-advised moves and changes the editor was making rendered any decision about the correct destination for a redirect moot until those changes were unwound and made consistent. The best approach at that late stage was to immediately undo any changes they made (even if some were later restored) so as to reduce the overall damage that needed ultimately to be fixed. General Ization Talk 01:03, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
I completely understand why you would do that and I agree. However, I don't see any problem with restoring the edit if another editor (me in this case) just happens to notice that it's a helpful edit. As for the SPI, I personally actually don't think check user evidence would be necessary -  it looks like a duck to me. But I guess it's always better to look into matters further, just to be safe, especially if it doesn't hurt to do so. Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 01:17, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

Now filed - Wikipedia:Bots/Requests_for_approval#RonBot_8. Now we wait for a BAG member to approve a trial. I'll let you know when, as you will need to stop removing dates manually! Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:16, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Bot approved Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/RonBot 8 (had to revert an edit by user:MarnetteD, so there was at least one page to work on!) Since Scsbot is a bit vague as to when he will add the next day, I've set Windoze Schedule Tasks to run it a 6am (UK) every day. Note that I wrote it to take out all unused dates (not just the previous day) - so if the PC throws a fit or similar, it will catch up the next day. Ronhjones  (Talk) 14:35, 23 August 2018 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks again! I definitely think it will be appreciated, not having to remove those dates manually.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:52, 23 August 2018 (UTC)

Thank you so much for helping me with the newly created article on Mary Locke Petermann! I'm still pretty new to Wikipedia and really appreciate the help. Biochemlife (talk) 18:03, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for the barnstar, Biochemlife! And great job with the article, it's coming along very nicely. Thanks! Just doing what I can one bit at a time... Biochemlife (talk) 18:38, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Thanks

About two weeks late: Thanks for the Barnstar! I am embarrassed to be that lax. I have noticed you doing a good job at vandalism reversion. In looking quickly at your user page in particular, I see that you have also created articles and ventured into a variety of "maintenance" areas. You're doing a great job. I hope you are enjoying it and will continue to contribute to the project. "Enjoy" may or may not be the best word; perhaps getting satisfaction from working on the project is a better way to put it. Thanks, again. Donner60 (talk) 08:10, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

Thank you very much, Donner60. I do enjoy contributing and helping out with the project in any way I can, and I appreciate that others recognize that. I do think that reverting vandalism is one of the most important tasks to do on Wikipedia, and it looks like you've been doing a great job with that. I hope you keep up the good work as well!--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 12:42, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

Template changes

Hey, ho! Just wanted to let you know that when you the documentation for Adopting to a subpage, you also removed the following code: <div class="boilerplate metadata" id="WikiAdoption" width=100%>. That broke some stuff. Took me a little playing it around to figure out what had caused it, hence the revert. Don't worry too much about it, this is just a courtesy notification so that you don't spend a bunch of time determing what I was doing. Compassionate727 (T·C) 23:50, 29 August 2018 (UTC)

Ah shoot, you're completely right Compassionate727! I didn't look close enough at the coding - I had assumed that all the div stuff was the documentation (which at this time, of course, was part of the template), rather than coding for the actual userbox. Thank you very much for catching that and fixing my mistake there. Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 00:42, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted

Hi SkyGazer 512. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Minor user rights can now be accorded on a time limited or probationary period, do check back at WP:PERM in case this concerns your application. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encylopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

 • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance. so that they are aware.
 • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
 • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
 • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term non use, (it is a 'use-it-or-lose-it' access) the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. Swarm 01:33, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Useful scripts for NPR

I just wanted to share a list of useful scripts for New Page Reviewing with you that I have been drafting for the next newsletter, as you can probably make use of them straight away:

 • WP:Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget.
 • User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to User:SkyGazer 512/common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page)
 • User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (I recommend 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50).
 • User:Primefac/revdel.js(info): Is revdel annoying and time consuming? Install this script and deal with copyvios in the blink of an eye. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your Diff Ids and you can drop them into the script Popups.
 • User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js(info): Creates a "Page Curation" link to Special:NewPagesFeed up near your sandbox link.
 • User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion.
 • User:Evad37/rater.js(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

Welcome to the team. Cheers, — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 01:37, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Thank you, Insertcleverphrasehere. I had already installed several of those, and plan to install many of the others that you listed, as they definitely seem like they would help me out some.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 01:40, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Articles at AFD

2020 games article are not article to review, or place extra tags - please get a handle on order - if there is something in question, please leave it alone JarrahTree 14:28, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi JarrahTree - are you saying that if an article is at AfD it shouldn't be reviewed or have tags added to it? If so, I actually disagree - from what I know, the point of new pages patrol is to mark articles as reviewed once problems have either been fixed or tagged for, and this is supported by the flowchart. Per WP:NPPLOG, "Any page that is tagged for speedy deletion, proposed for deletion, or nominated for discussion so editors do not waste time patrolling a new page that has already been patrolled." And as for the tagging part, it's still helpful for users who patrol maintenance categories to see ALL articles that would be in there, not just ones that are not undergoing AfD, and it's helpful for the page's creator to know what they can improve. Also, the point of a deletion discussion is to decide whether an article will be deleted or not - it doesn't make sense that we're not allowed to place any tags to indicate areas for improvement when there's a chance that the article is going to get kept. If this was not what you meant, a bit more clarification would be nice. ;) Thanks!--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:43, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Hohlbach (Haidenaab)

Thank you for reviewing my new page Hohlbach (Haidenaab)! You asked on my talk page, whether I have more sources than just Google Maps. Actually, if you don't count OpenStreetMap and the disambiguation page Hohlbach on the German Wikipedia, I don't have any.

If you are interested in, I will tell you why I created this article nevertheless: I've noticed, that in English Wikipedia there exists a lot of German river articles that have simply been copied from the German Wikipedia, e.g. Hohlbach (Nidda). But in contrast to the German Wikipedia, the English Wikipedia did not had any other Hohlbach article. Therefore, either the article Hohlbach (Nidda) should be moved to Hohlbach, or one should create a disambiguation Hohlbach plus creating another Hohlbach (xxx) article so that this disambiguation makes sense. I thought the latter is more future-proof and also creating new articles about rivers is not a bad idea. Therefore, I've looked into the German disambiguation Hohlbach what Hohlbach (xxx) I could create. I've found there the Hohlbach being a tributary of the Nidda as well as a hin to another Hohlbach river being a tributary to the Haidenaab. Therefore, I've created then both the Hohlbach (Haidenaab) and the disambiguation Hohlbach.

Regards --Cyfal (talk) 18:13, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Cyfal! Thanks for letting me know. Yeah, unfortunately, many places like these really do have little or no sources with coverage about them. You could tag it with Refimprove to alert others that more refs would be helpful, but if no refs exist, I guess there wouldn't be much point in doing that. Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 22:34, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, I just deleted this as soft delete, because I misread the date on your relist, thinking it had been relisted for a week with no comments, and hence it could be soft deleted since nobody seemed to care about keeping it. Open AfDs get put in a queue that gets updated every hour, and if you don't look at one carefully, it's easy to misread it. Are you okay with the soft delete, or do you want me to restore and restart the AfD from where it left off? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:56, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: I personally would say it's up to you. I have no particularly interest on the subject - I just was patrolling AfDs and noticed that this was a relatively new one which did not have any participation after a week of being open. The article can easily be restored at WP:REFUND, so I don't think closing it as soft delete with no participation is a huge deal.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 16:18, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
The article's creator hasn't been around for 10 years bar one edit in 2011. I'd prefer to leave it soft deleted as it's less work for me, and as you say it does mean it can be retrieved on demand at any time via WP:REFUND. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:20, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Wildair

Re your question : "Would you be able to source the Breeding section and the last part of the Progeny section, so that the information can easily be verified?"

Sure. The norm for the breeding info seems to be placing it after the "family" in the Pedigree box. So, that's where I've put it. Any suggestions? Progeny section : done Thanks. Stretchrunner (talk) 01:05, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Thanks, Stretchrunner. I went ahead and added the same ref you had to the breeding section as well, and removed the tag. Thank you for taking the time to create these nice articles - keep up the good work!--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 01:27, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Advice on Jordan cummaudo

If this user removes the deletion template again (or if it is deleted and recreated again), I think you can also G4 it (the creator's talk page suggests that the article was deleted a few minutes ago). SemiHypercube 02:03, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi SemiHypercube, and thanks for leaving the message. According to the CSD page, G4 only applies if the material was recreated via discussion, not just if it was speedy deleted before. This would mean that the criterion wouldn't apply here, but it would if it were deleted via, e.g. AfD. Anyways, it looks like they've done something else with the page now - let me take a look at it so that I can see what needs to be done to it now.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 02:06, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
I think the user straight up copied (not even the source, just the article as it appears, that's even worse) another article . . . on LeBron James. I've A10'd it. SemiHypercube 02:09, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
Yes, you're right, thanks for catching that. It looks they replaced all cases of "James" in the first few sentences with "Jordan," but left the rest the same.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 02:11, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

Lodiwicus du Plessis

Hi SkyGazer 512

Kindly indicate to me where adjustments is necessary Barry Ne (talk)

Hi Barry Ne - I think you're talking about Lodewicus du Plessis (E instead of an I). It's close to not needing the copy-edit tag, but there are quite a few spelling/grammar mistakes throughout the article that should be fixed. I can help you out with fixing the issues some. Besides the few copy-editing issues, the article looks very nice - thank you for creating it.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 18:17, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

Checking though

Hello @SkyGazer 512: I created these articles but they have not been reviewed as yet though most have. I am of belief that articles must be reviewed after a considerable amount of time, I have fixed changes to those that needed fixing and most. Check through them for reviewing and patrol and do let me know where/if I need to do some fixing to them. They are Nkrumah Mushelenga, Persecuted In Search of Change, Mangamu Saw Mills, Chifubu Secondary School. Best regards SkillsM674 (talk) 19:26, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi SkillsM674, and thanks for letting me know. I went ahead and reviewed Nkrumah Mushelenga and Persecuted In Search of Change, as I'm not seeing any major issues there. I think I'll leave the other two pages to other patrollers - I actually recently got the new page reviewer user right, and I would be more comfortable letting somebody else go through those. Jsyk, it appears that there's a grammar error in Persecuted In Search of Change: Namibia National Liberational of Veterans Association Nkrumah Mushelenga "African leaders can only be achieve investment if improvements of national strategic goals are focused on important sectors of a country such as education, health, agriculture and technological skills are correctly managed at national level." Did you mean to add a said that after Nkrumah Mushelenga?
I also would like to ask you if you know about citation templates. They can be accessed by clicking "cite" in the editing toolbar, and pick one of the templates from the menu: cite web, cite news, cite book, and cite journal. It's somewhat standard to use these on Wikipedia - as they make references look nicer and easier to insert. Let me know if you have any questions, and thank you for creating all of these articles! Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 21:40, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you, i noticed it. I honestly know nothing about that template. My twinkle has set features only for citations which shows on publish, preview, cancel and itself. Would like to know more. Thank you for the review. Kind regards SkillsM674 (talk) 22:42, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
I figured out how to use the template. Thank you for the help.

Looking through a sample of your recent reviewing, it looks like you have been doing great work. Keep it up! Cheers, — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 05:34, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Notes:

 • Disambiguation pages should not have a talk page created with the Wikiproject Disambiguation banner. Those guys will come and complain to you sooner or later, but consensus is that that banner should only b used where there is already a talk page with discussion on it. If it is a surname page, add the Anthroponymy banner though. Install the WP:RATER script to make adding Wikiproject banners super easy (if you haven't found it already).
 • Even if an article clearly meets criteria for inclusion (such as Taxodiomyia cupressiananassa), tag it with refimprove if it has less than 2 good sources. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 05:34, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks Insertcleverphrasehere! I never realized that about disambiguation pages, so that's definitely helpful to know. And yeah, I've been meaning to install the rater script, but I just haven't gotten around to it - I guess I'll do that now before I forget. As for the at least 2 sources part, I agree for the most part, but sometimes, when reviewing, I don't add a maintenance tag for sources if the article clearly meets the criteria for inclusion AND all statements are reliably sourced (like in this case), but I'm certainly willing to change that. Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:35, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Article Re-assessment

Hello SkyGazer 512

I noticed you recently gave this new article a "start" quality rating. I appreciate this, and I was curious as to whether my other article Pajanelia should be reassessed as well. I say this as Pajanelia has a far more elaborated sections, has better sources and all around better and more information for the reader, but is still a stub, this review left over from when it had very little information. I feel as though a start class review would be more accurate and relevant for the reader. I appreciate your work, keep it up. RussianAfroMan (talk) 01:01, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi RussianAfroMan. Looking at the C-class criteria for WP:WikiProject Plants/Assessment, I think the article meets them, but barely, so I went ahead and reassessed it as C-class; though if someone else thinks it doesn't quite meet the criteria, I don't have any objections to them lowering it to start, but I definitely don't think it's a stub anymore. Jsyk, I didn't actually assess Ajuga orientalis - I marked it as reviewed, but NessieVL was the user who actually assessed it. Thanks for reaching out to me, and keep up the good work!--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 01:50, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018

Hello SkyGazer 512, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.

Project news
As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.
Other
Moving to Draft and Page Mover
 • Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
 • If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
 • Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
 • The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
 • The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.
List of other useful scripts for New Page Reviewing

 • Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget.
 • In terms of other gadgets for NPR, HotCat is worth turning on. It allows you to easily add, remove, and change categories on a page, with name suggestions.
 • MoreMenu also adds a bunch of very useful links for diagnosing and fixing page issues.
 • User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to your common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page)
 • User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (Recommended 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50).
 • User:Primefac/revdel.js(info): Is requesting revdel complicated and time consuming? This script helps simplify the process. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your diff IDs and you can drop them into the script Popups and it will create a revdel request for you.

Added links to orphan: Mini Qutub Minar

Hi, thanks for your nice message. I pointed some links to Mini Qutub Minar from other page. After adding links how do you check whether a page has links? Thanks. --Aksamzarook (talk) 19:30, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Aksamzarook - thanks for doing that! I've now removed the orphan tag from the page. To check whether a page has links, go to Special:WhatLinksHere/[PAGENAME]. In this case, it would be Special:WhatLinksHere/Mini Qutub Minar. You can quickly access this page by clicking the "What links here" option in the tools section of the left sidebar. To check whether something's actually an orphan or not, set the "Namespace" to only (article); an article is still an orphan if it's only linked to from non-article namespace pages or only disambiguation pages or hatnotes. There's some more detailed information at WP:ORPHAN. Let me know if you have any questions, and happy editing! Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 22:15, 21 September 2018 (UTC)

Brownie points!

Thank you for accepting my revision on the How to Train Your Dragon The Hidden World page! What threshold is there that would auto accept my revisions on pages under such protections? Sarcathmo17 (talk) 23:42, 28 September 2018 (UTC)
@Sarcathmo17: Thanks for the brownie! In normal circumstances, your changes would be auto accepted, but because an IP had made an edit before you that was still awaiting review, it showed up as unaccepted. I accepted the change because it did not contain vandalism, copyright violations, or BLP violations. However, after looking at the edit more closely, factual information was changed without a source. So my question is, do you have a source stating that the planned release date has changed? If so, then you should add it to the page. If not, then the information will have to be reverted to what it was before per WP:VERIFIABILITY. Let me know if you have any further questions. Cheers,--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 01:36, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

Reasoning behind my edit at Sivapanthera

I reverted the edits made by 140.0.186.98 (talk+ · tag · contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RBLs · proxy check · block user · block log · cross-wiki contribs · CheckUser (log)) at Sivapanthera because it's in an IP range misused/abused by an IP-hopping vandal who tends to spam pages with incorrect, inappropriate, and or nonexistent categories. I've adopted a policy to revert all of its edits on any active IP, as per WP:DENY, as combing through its edit histories to preserve the precious few good edits while reverting its many bad edits is the Wikipedia equivalent of panning for gold in raw sewage.--Mr Fink (talk) 20:49, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Apokryltaros - that makes sense, I didn't realize that; my apologies. However, I still don't think it doesn't hurt if another editor (me in this case) happens to notice that the edit was construtive, and redoes the edit. Also, are you sure they're a blatant vandal? From what I've seen, they appear to be acting in good faith, but you know more about this situation than I do (particularly about other IPs they've edited from), so I won't make any assumptions.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 22:51, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
I bear no grudges against other editors who can salvage this vandal's edits. As far as I can tell, perhaps the vandal probably is editing in good faith, but, it's been my personal experience that the vandal demonstrates neither desire nor ability to communicate with other editors beyond restoring its edits, let alone reflect on how its editing habits of category spam and insertion of original research trivia actually harm Wikipedia.--Mr Fink (talk) 01:04, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
@Apokryltaros: As I said, I know little about this situation, but I would like to point out that if somebody is editing in good faith, they're not a vandal, and WP:DENY wouldn't apply to them.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 01:21, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
Except that it can be applied if the good faith editor in question is causing much harm to Wikipedia articles while simultaneously failing to make any attempt to communicate with other editors about how to improve its behavior, or make any attempt understand how its editing behavior harms Wikipedia. I've been dealing with this particular vandal for over a decade, and not once has it made any attempt at response beyond restoring some of the pernicious edits I or other editors have reverted.--Mr Fink (talk) 03:12, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
@Apokryltaros: perhaps I have misunderstood the situation, but in my opinion, such a decision -- that all edits made from a particular IP range should be prevented, by reversion or otherwise -- should be made by an administrator. If an IP range has been found to be consistently disruptive, that IP range or ranges can be blocked from editing. MPS1992 (talk) 23:35, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
It uses three to four large IP-ranges, and over the years, I've found that reverting the vandal's edits when I notice it's active again is the most expedient way of dealing with it.--Mr Fink (talk) 01:04, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
@Apokryltaros: Where in Wikipedia policy does it say that you should apply WP:Deny to a whole IP range?? JC7V-constructive zone 02:25, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
I've been dealing with this particular vandal for over a decade, and I've discovered that, as whenever it is blocked at one IP, it either moves to a new IP, or it literally simply waits until that blocked IP's block expires and begins again. I've also observed how it also uses more than one IP range, hence my mentioning it uses three to four large IP-ranges. That, and you are, in fact, misunderstanding me, as, I only revert and only advocate reverting those edits of one of the problem IPs or IP-ranges when it is clear that the vandal in question is active. Ergo, I've found through experience that blocking IPs or petitioning to have IP ranges blocked do little to stop it.--Mr Fink (talk) 03:12, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

 • Partial blocks should be available for testing in October on the Test Wikipedia and the Beta-Cluster. This new feature allows admins to block users from editing specific pages and in the near-future, namespaces and uploading files. DYK for Mary Jane Reoch

On 16 October 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mary Jane Reoch, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Mary Jane Reoch rode 12 miles (19 km) to the hospital on her racing bike to give birth to her daughter? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mary Jane Reoch. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Mary Jane Reoch), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

A belated thank you!

Hello SkyGazer 512, thank you for your welcome which I only just noticed, having been absent from Wikipedia for a few months. Loved the cookies! Thank you :)

I hear you are a pizza amateur, here's for you:

Would you kindly care to review my new updated page: Draft:The Association of Castles and Museums around the Baltic Sea. Any of your further suggestions / contributions are welcome! It will be updated regularly after being published, but I think it is now good to go. Best, Marebalti.

Marebalti (talk) 01:20, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Marebalti! Thank you very much for the pizza and for leaving me a message here. Unfortunately, I still don't believe that the article passes our notability guidelines yet. Wikipedia has strict guidelines as to what sources an article needs to have in order to be consider notable, and they're even stricter for companies. You can see WP:NCORP for a more detailed explanation, particularly the section WP:ORGIND. I don't think that any of the current sources satisfy the criteria listed there.
The main problem with all of the current sources is that none of them are independent of the subject. They're mostly either the subject's website, or the website of castles/museums that are incorporated by The Association of Castles and Museums around the Baltic Sea. What you really need are multiple good, clearly reliable sources that are not affiliated with the company in any way, which clearly pass the criteria at WP:NCORP. If these can't be found, then I don't think that this subject would be suitable for Wikipedia. Please don't get discouraged because of this. The notability guidelines on Wikipedia are very strict. There are a number of easily-notable articles that have not yet been created, but this may not be one of them. I can give you a list if you want, and I'd be willing to help you create them. Let me know if you have any questions, and happy editing!--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 01:45, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Barry Mitchell

I've received a notification on my talk page that said that you reviewed Barry Mitchell (basketball): thank you for your kind words, I put a lot of effort in writing the article. I am glad that I also managed to avoid grammar mistakes! --Triple 8~enwiki (talk) 15:36, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for reaching out, Triple 8~enwiki. Based on the length and quality of the article, I can definitely tell you worked hard on it, which is much appreciated. Considering how much non-routine reliable source coverage he's received, including the New York Times, I'm surprised the subject didn't have an article already. If you're looking for improvements to make, I would suggest expanding the lead to a full paragraph which summarizes the article as a whole, and maybe see if you can find any information about his early life before college. But those are minor things, and overall it looks great!--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 17:12, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.14 21 October 2018

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello SkyGazer 512, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

Backlog

As of 21 October 2018, there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.

Community Wishlist Proposal
Project updates
 • ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
 • There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

Thank you very much. I was rather expecting that someone will nominate it for deletion :)

When you have time, would it be OK to ask you about two articles which I am not sure what to do with? Just to take a look. Thanks anyway and take care PajaBG (talk) 15:55, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Hey PajaBG; it appears that the topic has received significant coverage in multiple reliable sources which are cited in the article, so it meets the general notability guideline. I doubt it will be deleted, but you never know what may happen on Wikipedia. :-) To answer your question, yes it would definitely be ok. What articles in specific do you want me to look at? I'll try to see what I can do if you name them to me, though I'm not making any promises. Unfortunately, I'll be in another city (or driving to that city) for many hours today, but I should have time tomorrow, or possible even late tonight. Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 17:30, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
Hi. Take all the time you need, it is not an emergency. Not even close to an emergency :) The first one is this: Hospitals. I am not sure it will survive online, especially since there is only one source, good and detailed, though. I have started articles with only one source before and some developed nicely later (Latin lover). If you think it can survive like this as the core of an article, I might dig a bit more on the subject. If it’s better to be a part of something like Hospitals in Beglrade, I absolutely have no time for that at the moment, so I will keep it as it is for now. Thanks again and drive safely. PajaBG (talk) 21:42, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
@PajaBG: Yeah, the Hospitals article does definitely look nice, and it's a rather interesting topic as well. Hospitals in Belgrade as a title could work; there are similar articles that do exist, such as Hospitals in Thailand. However, I do think more than one source would definitely be beneficial, particularly because there is so much material supported by the single source. Would you be able to find any other sources? Based on the scope of the topic, it doesn't seem likely that the source you have would be the only one that covers anything in the article, though it may be more difficult to find others. Also, try to make sure that every paragraph is sourced, so that all information can be verified. Let me know if you have any questions.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 00:10, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
Hello. I know the drill of how an article should look like and be referenced, I wrote my first back in 2006 ;) Would there be a point in creating a page "18th century hospitals in Belgrade", the core of which would be what I already have, but expanded and referenced as much as I can? Or rather general "Hospitals in Belgrade" and filling only the 18th century section?
The other one I wanted to ask you about is this: Night life. I deliberately stopped with the 1990s because that is where the major sources I used also stop but also as I didn't want it to look like an advertising for the existing venues since almost all clubs mentioned are today closed or renamed. Names of the sections (Shy 1960s, etc.) are not mine, they are from the major source I used. Also, as with the hospitals, if worthy of being posted, should it be "20th century nighlife in Belgrade", "Origins of nightlife in Belgrade" or "Belgrade nightlife" with 21st century section empty... PajaBG (talk) 11:15, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
Hmm, I don't know what the best title would be PajaBG. I'm not sure if it would be great to have it as "18th century hospitals in Belgrade" when the articles for other centuries don't exist, but I'm not sure if simply "Hospitals in Belgrade" would be the best if you're only covering the 18th century. I'd say it's up to you. The night life article looks great as well, it looks like you worked hard on it; but I'm not sure about the best title for this one either. One thing I will say, though, is that I don't see why it would be a problem adding the clubs that are still open today as long as the tone is neutral; I doubt it would be considered advertising.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:36, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi. I asked you these things cause you are reviewing new articles, so I guess you have a better idea about the titles and stuff, in the cases when I myself am not sure what’s better and need some advice. I will keep the hospitals as it is for now, maybe some nice source with the older/newer periods will come into my hands and then I will see. As for the nightlife, I will give it a try. I will write an intro and add the 21st century section with an “empty section” template. I might also expanded it with the pre-1960s period cause I think I have enough material (kafana, Skadarlija, etc.). But it will take some time. Thanks. PajaBG (talk) 15:55, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Sounds like a good plan; thank you for your work. As you probably know, it's fine if they're not completed as soon as they're in the mainspace; Wikipedia is never finished, and other users can always chip on and add material which you can't find as much information about. Do remember, though, that just because I am a new page reviewer, that does not mean that I necessarily have a better idea about titles and stuff than non-reviewers; literately all new page reviewers are, are normal users who have the ability to mark pages as reviewed. Honestly, I'm not sure that I know that much more about good page titles than you do, but I try to pick out what I think fits the best and do what I can. :-)--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 02:53, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

(Untitled)

Hello, we've recently updated the company page to reflect the company's current status. This includes edits to the history section, FY results, key persons. These edits have not been made for advertising reasons.Spots11 (talk) 00:21, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Hey Spots11, and thanks for leaving me a message here! Unfortunately, the nature of the edits gave a clear impression of promotion. Wikiepdia must adhere to a neutral point of view. The edits you made didn't follow that policy, particularly due to the inclusion first person (we) and several peacock terms. However, the more pressing matter here was the fact that your edit was a copyright violation. It was directly copied from https://www.cardno.com/about-us/who-we-are/our-history/, which as stated here, has an "all rights reserved" policy. Wikipedia's policies don't allow us to add content copied from elsewhere unless its license is compattible with Wikipedia, and persistent violators of this policy may be blocked from editing. I'd suggest that you read the links provided in the welcome notice I gave you. Let me know if you have any further questions! Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 01:57, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi SkyGazer 512, I am editing the content on behalf of Cardno using Cardno's Wikipedia account. I'm in Cardno's Global Marketing Team. I'm not sure how updating the Carndo Wikipedia page with the company's content is considered as a copy right violation?... We've never had this much trouble before when updating our history and positioning statements. I'm hoping to update the content again soon, as it's now outdated, please advise if I will be able to do this. Spots11 (talk) 06:57, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Hello Spots11! I explained why it was a copyright violation in the post above; it was copied from a website that does not have a license compatible with Wikipedia. The link I provided explained more details. In your latest response, you have said two things. The first is that your editing on behalf of Cardno, which gives the impression of paid-editing. Per WP:PAID, you must disclose this on your user page in accordance with Wikimedia's terms of use. The second thing you said is that this is "Cardno's Wikipedia account." Shared accounts, unfortunately, are not permitted on Wikipedia. Per WP:SHARED, evidence of doing so will result in the user being required to stop the practice and change their password, or in sanctions (up to and including the account being blocked). Also, because you have a conflict of interest with the subject, it's strongly recommended that you don't edit the page directly and instead make edit requests on the talk page which are supported by a source. In short, I'm not sure if you understand the purpose of Wikipedia. We are an encyclopedia who's purpose is for independent editors to write about notable topics based off of what reliable sources say. Our purpose isn't for companies to write about themselves, copying material from their websites which are promotional in tone. All material should be verifiable, written in your own words, written from a neutral point of view, and preferably by independent editors. The five pillars, particular 1-3, summarize this very nicely.
So, to answer your question, yes, there is a way to update the content again! However, it must be reliably sourced, completely written in your own words with no close paraphrasing, neutral and not promotional in tone, and you should request the edit on the talk page due to the conflict of interest. Also, per WP:Verifiability, not truth, you should not update the page just because you know through personal experiences how the company has been updated; the material must be supported by sources. But you should only do this after you have disclosed your paid editing and you have either created a new account for only you or changed your password so that you are the only one editing from this account. This post may come across as harsh, so I hope you don't interpret it offensively, as that's not at all what I mean for it to be; I'm just trying to be clear and direct. Again, let me know if you have any questions, but do try to take this seriously. :)--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 13:11, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Hey Trekphiler, absolutely! I've been busy today except for the morning and now it's late in the night (I'm in ETC), but I'll see what I can do with those pages tomorrow. Thanks for letting me know!--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 02:08, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
No hurry at all. :D If you want other projects (I don't have the back issues, or access to 'em, to support it, or I'd do it), have a look in my contributions. I've put up a bunch of drag racer stub pages that could use it, plus redlinks for the Winternats year reports, plus the Altered and Top Gas pages, plus the redlinks here that somebody keeps trying to delete... And let me say, it's good to know I'm not alone in the dark; I'd begun to think nobody else at WP was interested at all. Good having you here. :D TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 14:52, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for giving me stuff to do, Trekphiler! I've begun working on Pete Chapouris now. I don't think I'll really be creating new articles in this area, as I'm not too familiar with it, but I'd be happy to try to copy-edit what I can.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 15:14, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
I was hoping you had better access to sources; I can't even get the HRM website to load for me (to name one). For the nicknames page, tbh, even a few lines of a stub page (like Jake Jacobs) would do nicely. If you can maybe resolve conflicts between sources (like the Stock class winner at the '62 Winternats or the chop of the Hirohata Merc), that'd be terrific. If that's impossible, tho, I won't complain; you do what you can do. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 15:31 & 15:36, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
I should correct myself. If you're looking for specific pages, you're better advised to look at my user page. The "open vanity" boxes will give you as many options as you'll ever want, & that way, you won't have to sort through all the other junk I've edited. :p TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 18:42, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of Tollywood Guruji

I was just looking for the notification template when your thanks came in. (Hint to future self: it's in the template text, how helpful) Was your warning on their talk page a full deletion that was removed? If so, we might be able to add a 'notice to the deleting admin' template too, see {salt}.

Anything else I can do to help this along? Elfabet (talk) 14:32, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

Hey Elfabet. I tagged it for deletion per WP:A7 and WP:G11, but they removed the template. I was going to add it back, but I noticed that you had added an slightly different delete template already. :) I think salt should generally only be used if the page has been deleted before, rather than if the speedy template has been removed before. If the user continues with this promo, I'll probably take them to WP:ANI or WP:AIV per WP:NOTHERE. Now all we need to do is just wait for an admin to come along and delete the page.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:38, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

thanks for repair my article but nex time you have permited by user Dimas gilang (talk) 06:44, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks Dimas gilang! I believe you're talking about my changing Rumah Pilkada to a redirect. I'm glad you are happy with that, and like I mentioned, I encourage you to recreate the article if you're able to find significant coverage in multiple reliable, independent, secondary sources, but when I searched Google, I was not able to find that, unfortunately. As for "permitted by user," I assume you're saying that I have your permission to do that next time? I appreciate that, but because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, permission is not needed; anyone can make any kind of constructive edits to anyone's articles, hence the Work submitted to Wikipedia can be edited, used, and redistributed—by anyone notice. Hi SkyGazer. You may consider tagging pages like this one as G5 only since you will notify the user when tagged with multiple CSD criteria (such as G3 and G5 in this case). WP:DENY Abelmoschus Esculentus 15:05, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

You're indeed correct about WP:DENY, Abelmoschus Esculentus. In fact, as soon as I had tagged the second sock's user page for speedy deletion, I actually thought "This is probably feeding the trolls by notifying them about the speedy deletion; I probably shouldn't do it next time." I don't know why I had never thought about that before, but thanks for letting me know and I definitely will not notify these socks in the future. Jsyk, it's not necessary to tag with only G5, there's an option when tagging a page for speedy deletion to "Notify page creator if possible," which is on by default but can be deselected. This option can be deselected even when tagging for criteria other than G5 or tagging multiple criteria. Thanks again for letting me know and for your work with battling LTAs and vandals. Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 15:18, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

Looking at their contribs, you didn't miss anything that needed action, and based on what I had seen in the revisions before, I'm pretty much completely sure that everything you had done was correct; though I can't double check now as non-admins can't view deleted revisions. Optional RfA candidate poll

Regarding withdrawn RfA candidate polls, as per Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship/Optional RfA candidate poll/Archive 3#Poll removal it was agreed to archive withdrawn polls rather than delete them, and as per Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship/Optional RfA candidate poll/Archive 5#Courtesy archiving of closed poll seen by candidate it was agreed to let them remain on the page for a week after closure (which ordinarily would be handled by the archive bot). Thanks for restoring the poll and closing it! isaacl (talk) 22:13, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

@Isaacl: Thank you for letting me know. I had thought that was the case, which is why I did it to begin with, but I didn't know for sure which is why I left the edit summary of uncertainty. Help please!

I just still need a other help regarding this situation. Web SourceContent were locked globally by Tegel after it got locally blocked by Bbb23 on September 27th, as sock of Daciproteasa09 (different vandal). In the fact, that this user were also moving around wikis, but WSContent did nothing to pose cross-wiki vandalism, such as threats or trolling. Never to say who is Web SourceContent, but WP:SOCK is related to policy subject regarding the illegitimate use of multiple accounts. Sad. 109.98.164.13 (talk) 05:18, 10 November 2018 (UTC)

Hey there; like I said on Meta, I really know little about this situation, but I do know that Bbb23 would not block without a good reason. If you would like to know more details, I'd suggest going to Bbb23's talk page. Just out of curiosity, though, is there a reason why you're interested in this situation? Thanks, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 03:06, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for clarification, SkyGazer! Of course, I've doubt regarding to this issue. I just learn details regarding this case from Tegel's talk page how this block for Web SourceContent (formerly Sourcecontent1 since 2016) were occured at near-end of September 2018. I understand that Bbb23 CU block would not be applied without good or other reasons (that CU/admin should place the block announcement on their talk page of indef. blocked user), as per your comment. Possibly, this case is known to be related to good and bad hand criteria. Second, to get account recovered, I must familiar with WP:OFFER, and to wait six months without further socks or evasions. Sorry for that what happened over 1 month ago. 109.98.164.214 (talk) 04:49, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
Hello; the detailed information was sent over email by Bbb23; which means it is probably something that should not be known publicly. This does seem like a case of good-hand-bad-hand accounts to me, and like you pointed out, that is a form of sockpuppetry. Also, what you said in the later part of your post implies that you are in fact Web SourceContent. If that's the case, then you must stop editing or you will very likely be eventually blocked, per WP:EVADE.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 13:52, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
The IP range 109.98.164.0/24 is now CUblocked by Bbb23. I figured that was the case.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:25, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

2019 National Invitational Tournament Article

Can you Change the article Color from red to blue please. 68.103.78.155 (talk) 04:05, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi there; I'm afraid I'm still not sure exactly what edit you're requesting for 2019 National Invitational Tournament. The only thing I see in red there is the dead link to 2020 National Invitation Tournament. The reason why the link is red is because it's a dead link as the 2020 page has not been created yet; probably because 2020 is so far away, there's little information and sources, or not enough information and sources out there, to write a notable article about it. If you're asking something else, I'd appreciate a clarification. Thanks, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:00, 11 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi, SkyGazer! I have to read knowledges about this AfC draft started by editor Alex4ff (talk · contribs · count) as well. Now since he working to his draft regarding IKMF Romania, it has been declined few times and resubmitted for 5/6 times. You are familiar with this situation. Please re-consider review of AfC's draft: IKMF International Krav Maga Federation. Thanks! 83.246.232.21 (talk) 14:12, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

Hey there! I appreciate your reaching out, but I'm not sure what you mean by being familiar with this particular situation. I never declined/commented on the draft or edited the page. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to do an in-depth look; but a few important issues I've noticed are that a lot of the article reads like an advertisement, there are multiple unsourced statements, and many of the references are simply about Krav Maga rather than the federation as a whole. If I am able to look over it in-depth, I'll let you know; otherwise, I believe I'll leave it to someone else. Thanks, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:51, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks a lot SkyGazer! Another reviewer will have their ability effort to examine this issue. 83.246.232.21 (talk) 15:11, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

Hey Dimas gilang, and thanks for the barnstar! If I'm understanding what you're saying, then behavioral evidence shows otherwise; it seems very likely that it's you who's editing while logged out due to the similarity in behaviors. Also, I'm not really sure how the types of pages you edit would influence whether we think that you're editing while logged out or not. I would very strongly suggest reading what people have told you on your talk page about your editing and following them; as always, your editing enthusiasm is much appreciated, but how you're going against multiple policies and guidelines and are unresponsive to what people are telling you on your talk page, per this thread, may unfortunately result in a block from editing. Nobody enjoys blocking editors who are not vandals or spammers, but it's often necessary to stop disruption, even if it is in good-faith, which is why I regretfully supported your indefinite block at the Administrators noticeboard/Incidents thread. If you need help with anything, please let know. :-)--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 14:15, 15 November 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.15 16 November 2018

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months.

Hello SkyGazer 512,

Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
 • Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

Thank you for your help and advice I would love to know who you create the multicolored link (Oh no what did I do this time) so cool. I didn't realize it was a link at first. But all considered with all of my deficits. Maybe I will stick to creating articles. I am still struggling with syntax for links, I have a wordpad file with samples that I alter to suit the event. I have tried to use the cite links at the top with some, but limited, success. Alvanhholmes (talk) 18:23, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Hey there Alvanhholmes! Thanks for messaging me and being willing to help out Wikipedia. I'd be happy to tell you how I created the "Oh no what did I do this time" part of my sig. This post may seem kind of long, so just bare with me here. As a whole, the following code is used to produce the second part of my sig that I mentioned:
<span style="background: linear-gradient(aqua, #d580ff);">Oh no, what did I do this time?</span>
We can divide that into 5 parts.
The first part is the coding . What this does is it makes any text that follows it but precedes a closing tag in superscript.
The second part is the coding <span style="background: linear-gradient(aqua, #d580ff);">. An opening <span> tag allows for setting a number of properties to any text following it but preceding a closing </span> tag. The span style is what's most often used, followed by an equals sign, followed by whatever coding is used to make the text have the certain properties, with the coding being within quotation marks. Different properties within the quotes are separated with a semicolon.
In this case, the only property I am using is background, which sets the background color. As you can see, I set the background to linear-gradient(aqua, #d580ff). Now, this gets a bit complicated here. Linear-gradient is an interesting piece of coding; essentially what it does is allows the background color to have a certain color at the top of the text, and slowly fade into another color at the bottom. As you can see, I've set it so that the top is aqua colored, hence "aqua" after the parentheses but before the comma. After the comma, I have my bottom color. You will see that it's not actually a word, but instead #d580ff. This is a hexidecimal code which helps determine a more specific color rather than the normal "red," "orange," "green," etc. This particular hexidemical code creates sort of a lighter purplelish color.
So summarizing that all, we have <span style="background: linear-gradient(aqua, #d580ff);">. The span style sets the background color, which is aqua at the top, fading into the purpelish color, #d580ff in hexadecimal, by the bottom.
The third part is the coding Oh no, what did I do this time?. This one's a bit more simple than the previous one. Basically, in order to create a link that displays different text than what the target page for the link is, you produce the following coding: Text to display. In this case, the target link is my talk page, which is User talk:SkyGazer 512, and the text that I want to display to users is "Oh no, what did I do this time?."
The fourth part is simply </span>. This just closes the span tag I mentioned earlier in the second part, so that no text further than this will be affected by the coding within the opening span tag.
The fifth part is , which closes the opening tag, meaning that any text further than this will not be in superscript.
Did I explain that okay? It's a rather difficult topic to explain, so please let me know if you need clarification on any of this. It sounds very confusing at first, but once you get used to it, it's really not too bad. :-) Putting this whole thing together creates the second part of my standard signature: --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 23:21, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

If you like, I can indefinitely protect it. GABgab 02:34, 25 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, GeneralizationsAreBad and Abelmoschus Esculentus, for helping fight the vandalism and letting me know about this. I originally added the unlocked userpage template to the page a while back because I like allowing anyone to contribute to my userpage, due to the spirit of being an encyclopedia "that anyone can edit." However, my userpage has been vandalized a lot recently and having it de facto semi-protected saves time from vandalism fighters; also, the fact remains that nobody's made a single constructive edit to it since it's been unlocked. Due to this, it is probably true that having it unlocked does more harm than it does good, so I've removed the template from it. Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 03:11, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi SkyGazer 512, thanks for helping on the tables at Terry stop! Also, I love the template on your user page...it rings very, very true :-) Seahawk01 (talk) 02:14, 26 November 2018 (UTC)

@Seahawk01: Thanks for the shout out! I didn't actually help you with what you wanted in specific, I self-reverted after I realized it wasn't what you had suggested and didn't pursue it any further, but I'm glad it's working the way you want it now and you can thank Ruslik0 for actually helping you, which it looks like you've already done. And yeah, the thing about tags is really true. I am not opposed to adding tags to pages, but I really don't like it when people just add 8 tags onto a new page, many of which don't even apply, with no attempt of an explanation of why they actually do apply (yes, I've seen that before). Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 03:53, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
SkyGazer 512, I make it a habit of removing all the warnings on pages I'm working on. My standard ploy is checking the Talk pages and then saying "sorry, no discussion posted since 2013 so must be driveby tagging". There seems to have been a big push in 2010 to globalize everything, so I see lots of those.
You helped out a great deal. I did check how you styled the table in the history of the page and will use that again. Anyway, I'm always happy when people visit a page I'm working on :-) Seahawk01 (talk) 04:06, 26 November 2018 (UTC)

Advice re vandalism, please

Hi SkyGazer 512,

One of my pages is repeatedly vandalized by someone who removes true information and substitutes irrelevant and/or false information.

What steps can I take to rectify the situation? Any advice would be appreciated.

SurveyorMJF (talk) 22:25, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi SurveyorMJF; could you give me a link to where the vandalism is occurring? I'm afraid I can't give much advice if I don't know the exact situation; there are just too many variables.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 22:31, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for your swift response. The page is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Nevin_Tatlow_Hurst. The vandal now makes lots of small changes, with different IP addresses, so blocking would be hard. Can you take a look, and, if you plan to take any action, get back to me before you do anything? Thanks. SurveyorMJF (talk) 23:31, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
The section that is being repeatedly changed is Paternal ancestors - Nevin and Hurst. One of my paragraphs has been completely deleted, and another has been added to with errors/irrelevant info which should be on the Talk page for discussion/consensus, not in the main page. SurveyorMJF (talk) 23:37, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
@SurveyorMJF: I assume you're talking about the edits made by the IPs 120.17.214.249 and 1.129.111.88? If the edits are incorrect based off of the sources or are removing clearly correct information supported by sources, then feel free to just revert them and add back the correct information. However, user blocks or page protects would likely not be necessary at this point; the IPs stopped editing in May, 7 months ago. One thing to be careful of is what is called vandalism and what isn't. Vandalism is the act of deliberately, maliciously harming Wikipedia; for anything else, you should generally assume good faith. A lot of times, something may look like vandalism but isn't; I haven't looked extremely closely at the specifics for this page, but simply not following policies or guidelines is generally not vandalism. If this happens again in the future, you can first revert the edits. Then, if they are clear vandalism you can warn the user using the templates listed at WP:User warnings, i.e. uw-vandalism1 — uw-vandalism4. If it's not vandalism, you can do so as well but using different warnings (e.g. uw-unsourced); however, for good-faith edits, it's sometimes better to write a personalized message. Warning the users now likely wouldn't do any good, but if they continue in the future it could help. If a user may be acting in good faith, they generally shouldn't be blocked until they have been warned sufficiently. Does this help you out a bit? If you have any more specific questions, I'd be happy to try to answer them. Also, if you feel I'm missing something be sure to let me know.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 23:55, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look and advising me. I should have mentioned that in June and August 2017 this vandal deleted correct information and inserted spurious info. A Wiki editor with higher powers, Kind Tennis Fan, restored the page each time & told the vandal to use the Talk page to seek consensus. And that person found out my real world identity and attacked me wildly via email, also writing all sorts of slanderous untruths to the editors of journals I have written for. So the current alterations and deletions are not 'in good faith'. But I will correct the errors, as you suggest. I guess that this worry and extra work is exactly what the vandal is after! SurveyorMJF (talk) 00:50, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
@SurveyorMJF: They found your real world identity and attacked you by email? I didn't know that part; that is definitely completely unacceptable. How recently did this part of it happen? Have they done anything else since May?--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 02:32, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
Also, I just now realize I didn't make this clear in my second reply; I was not claiming that the IP's edits necessarily weren't vandalism at all, I was just stating that it's easy to think that an edit is vandalism when it's really not.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 03:01, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
This is the first time I've looked at it for quite a while. I am going to correct it again right now. If you have time, would you keep an eye on it for a while, to see whether it gets corrupted again? You can send me an email via Wiki, if you need to. Thanks very much. SurveyorMJF (talk) 03:08, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
@SurveyorMJF: I'll keep in eye on it, but you could keep it on your watchlist and revert unconstructive edits yourself; I don't have any more authority or power with this matter than you do, nor does Kind Tennis Fan. --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 03:17, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

Hello Cherish Chukwu; thanks for reaching out. As I mentioned at the Teahouse, Wikipedia isn't the place to write about yourself. The notability guidelines we have are strict. In order for a person to be notable, in almost all cases they must have significant coverage in multiple reliable sources which are independent of the subject. However, there is an even stricter guideline which basically says that even if someone received significant coverage in multiple reliable, independent sources, they are not notable if the only reason they meet this guideline is because of a single event, see WP:BLP1E and WP:BIO1E for more information. Very few people do have Wikipedia articles, not having one is nothing personal. It's just that due to the fact that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia; it exists to document subjects that reliable sources have already covered in detail, not to give someone more publicity. I hope this helps explain things better and please don't take this personally or offensively; after all, we're always happy to have new contributors here. :-)--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 16:00, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.

Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.

Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

Chinese alligator

Hi, just a comment on switching to sfn: it is probably indeed a good idea to do so for all book sources in the article, if you do it for one, to avoid a confusing mixture of styles. Cheers --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 10:02, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi Elmidae; thanks for the message. I agree; I had originally done so for one of them, but as you pointed out, I did think that looked a bit messy. I believe I've now converted all of the book refs to sfn. If I were really good I would've done all of them in one or two edits, but each one just takes so long to do so I figured I'd save my progress so far just in case something unexpected happens.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 13:57, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Rhacodactylus trachycephalus

On 19 December 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Rhacodactylus trachycephalus, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that habitat loss, a low reproductive rate, and a very small range make Rhacodactylus trachycephalus one of the rarest gecko species in the world? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Rhacodactylus trachycephalus. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Rhacodactylus trachycephalus), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. I need your help to publish an article.

Hi SkyGazer512 can help me to publish my article which i have wrote. Because you are senior here on Wikipedia and you can easily approve any article. I want to publish this article as soon as possible because i am a student and my teacher give me this task to publish a basketball players biography. I have wrote his biography after a lot of search and it took already too much time. I hope you can understand my situation and help me for its publication on Wikipedia.Mbasit718 (talk) 22:47, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Hey there Mbasit718; thanks for reaching out! I understand your situation and appreciate the effort you put into this. I've already explained the steps to create an article at the Teahouse, but I'd be more than happy to repeat them.
Really, all you need to know is found on this page. The title of it is "Your first article" and it's meant to be a step-by-step guide for editors who may not be extremely familiar with Wikipedia but want to create a new article. Once you've read that, go to the Article Wizard. Here, you'll be able to create a draft which once you're ready to submit for review, add the coding to the bottom of it. Is there something in specific in this process that you need help with? An article can't be published unless you've already written it as a draft as we don't know what the content is. If you have any more specific questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them. Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 23:55, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

@Abelmoschus Esculentus: Yeah, I know about uw-test, but considering that by the time I reverted the edit it was over 9 hours since it was made, and the fact that the IP had no other edits, a test warning likely wouldn't do any good, although it's true that it wouldn't necessarily do any harm either. --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 04:37, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Block evasion?

Regarding this edit, what makes you think the IP is evading a block? Also, I note you haven't (as of the time I post this; though you may be in the process of doing it) posted to the IP's talk page with any warning or explanation. If the IP is evading a block, I can block the IP, but I currently don't see a reason to believe the IP is doing so. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:50, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Hey ONUnicorn; I'm working up a reply to you with more detailed evidence right now. It may take a little while but I just wanted to let you know that I've seen your message and am not deliberately ignoring it. :-) In short, however, the block I think they're evading is Vote (X) for Change, an LTA I've been dealing with for a while. I also would like to note that an admin has now blocked the IP for 36 hours for block evasion.--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 17:24, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
@ONUnicorn: Full reply here: To me, it seems clear that they're User:Vote (X) for Change, an LTA who I've been handling for a while. I could understand where you may not think that the IP is evading a block if you're not familiar with VXFC, as VXFC is a bit different than other LTAs; e.g. they don't just replace a bunch of pages with "poop." It's not necessarily that one edit to the help desk that proves that they're evading a block, but rather their overall stream of editing and their location. First off, there's their location. I've compared the IP to various other IPs of VXFC on various IP locator tools and WHOIS, particularly this one as it edited as recently as yesterday (it was also blocked for 36 hours yesterday by Future Perfect at Sunrise). Pretty much everything puts both of those IPs in the exact same location, much more specific than simply a district in London; in fact, WHOIS reveals very specific stuff, which I would have thought would be a privacy violation.
And, now we have behavior evidence. This edit was what made me confident that this IP was VXFC; although many of the other edits were very similar to what VXFC, I probably wouldn't report the IP just based off of those. First off, they posted an oppose to the same proposal yesterday right here, from the 2a00:23c5:318d:5200:b86e:811b:6347:977c IP which, as I mentioned before, is from the exact same location. One of the key behaviors of VXFC is to participate in discussions, such as those kinds of proposals. One thing that I've noticed with VXFC, in these situations, is that they don't just start by explaining simple reasoning; they'll make a big deal out of their support or oppose, using metaphors, sarcasm, etc., a characteristic that I've rarely seen outside of VXFC for a proposal like this. You can see this in action in both of the posts to oppose the Ref Desk protection proposal they made from the different IPs.
Yet another key characteristic is their replying to Ref Desk posts, although again, I wouldn't report them for this reason alone. The posts are usually disguised as an innocent, but once you've seen a bunch of them you can kind of get an idea of what kind of posts they like to make. This particular post seemed to fit right in with what VXFC likes to do on the Ref Desks. There are a number of smaller things as well. For example, the way both of the IPs I've been mentioning reverted my removal of the VPPR within the same time interval with a similar edit summary, the way both of them commented on the AIV report (how would a "new" user even know what AIV is or that they were reported there?), how they were making their edits at the exact same time of day, the list goes on...
In short, I find it hard to believe that - with this IP's only behavior being an almost repetition of what other VXFC IP socks have done and the fact that the two IPs used in comparison are in the exact same location - this is not actually VXFC, which is why I reverted and reported. If you have any more questions at all about this I'd be more than happy to answer them; if you want further evidence, need clarification, think I misworded something, etc. Again, for this particular circumstance, Alexf has blocked the IP for 36 hours for block evasion. I hope this helps clarify things and I apologize that the wall of text had to be so long!--SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 18:15, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. That will help me to be on the lookout for and recognize them if I come across them again. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 18:49, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
No problem, ONUnicorn. To answer the other part of your question, the reason I didn't warn them is because with a persistent LTA like this, I think it's very likely that all they would do in response is just make lengthy posts with nonsense like they normally do, make up excuses, etc.... and do no actual good, so I thought reverting, reporting them, and then just leaving them alone would be more in accordance with WP:DENY. :-) Cheers, --SkyGazer 512 Oh no, what did I do this time? 18:57, 28 December 2018 (UTC)
