Christian Proehl moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Christian Proehl, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Programs by State[edit]

Can you come up with a single valid reason to keep it? Thus far, you've still provided none. As we've already established, the section is undebatably redundant, takes up a ton of room, and requires that the same information be edited twice. I'm surprised you're so intent on keeping at this without any legitimate reason to do so.

Commanders infobox redirects[edit]

Is there any valid reason you are doing the links that way? WP:NOPIPE and by extension WP:NOTBROKEN says to not do this. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 19:09, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Under construction template[edit]

Please only use this template in situations in which an article is either being actively created or undergoing a major overhaul or addition (multiple sections or paragraphs). Also, it needs to be removed once you finish editing. The "Under construction" only applies to a short timeframe of a few hours, anything else needs a more permanent maintenance tag. @Sergio Skol: You might also want to take part in this discussion given that you are changing the links in ledes to actual college instead of college team, which most editors do because frankly it's much more applicable to the subject. Best, GPL93 (talk) 01:52, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for May 11[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Western Kentucky Hilltoppers football, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page New Orleans Breakers. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello, Sergio Skol. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Isaiah Land".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. College team in lead of bios[edit]

Hi there. I partially reverted your edit at Gary "Big Hands" Johnson. The rough consensus is that a link to the college team is more relvant than the school in the leads of football bios, per Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Football_League/Archive_21#Araiza's_college_in_lead.—Bagumba (talk) 02:34, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

December 2022[edit]

Information icon Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Fred Dean. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Per MOS:EGG, please don't shorten the displayed text of football programs to mislead the reader that it is a link to the university, e.g. "Louisiana Tech Bulldogs" should not be shortened to the ambiguous "Louisiana Tech". Also, players play "for" a sports program, not "at". Thanks.Bagumba (talk) 00:35, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

NFL Rosters[edit]

Please do not add UDFAs (or any other transactions) to team season articles or roster templates until their signings (not that they have merely agreed to terms) have been officially confirmed or announced. Generally that doesn't happen until after they pass a physical at rookie mini-camp, many of which are not until next week. Before then, any reports should be regarded as nothing more than rumours. Thanks. wjematherplease leave a message... 11:38, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As an aside, please remember Wikipedia is a collaborative project that requires contributors to be civil; as such, please be aware that responses such as the one you gave in the section above are likely to lead to a block. Please also remember to use edit summaries. Thanks. wjematherplease leave a message... 11:46, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What are you talking about? We all know that the Wikipedia community is a very bad one, the main editors always think that they are right about everything; It doesn't matter if a small publisher uses a million references, if it's something a big shot doesn't like, they just delete it. PS I want to see them force me to use editing summaries. Sergio Skol (talk) 15:00, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Too many times teams don't even announce their undrafted free agents, so I take a article from a theoretically reliable source like Sports Illustrated. Sergio Skol (talk) 14:45, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Even reliable sources host/publish unreliable content in the form of blogs and rumour-mills (such as these lists). Sadly, it seems few journalists manage to post a clear and appropriate disclaimer such as this one from Dan Benton: "...some initial reports may be incorrect, changed or, unfortunately, outright faked, Until the Giants/NFL themselves announce the signings, these should all be considered rumors and subject to change."

Anyway, taking Seattle as an example, the SI source you used details their sources from which the list of reported UDFA signings were compiled, but it does not state any as confirmed or finalized, so it does not support them as being signed. With Washington, the official site only reports their UDFAs have "agreed to terms" and explicitly states "players will not officially sign with the team until they pass their physicals on May 11." wjematherplease leave a message... 15:12, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You must wait until these signings are official. wjematherplease leave a message... 07:18, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Only 4 of the UDFAs announced as having agreed terms are currently listed on Washington's roster. There is no confirmation of their signings. Should you decide to return, you must adhere to policies, especially with respect to verifiability when it comes to sports transactions. wjematherplease leave a message... 20:31, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And then I saw this[edit]

Hi Sergio, hope all is well. I was a bit nervous when I saw you were retiring. Glad to see you're back. I have to ask you an honest question, how do you get to respond to an administrator that way (December 2022) talk page message, and not get blocked? Back when I was on Answers.com, I was let go for just that same thing. So many crazy rules here at WP I lose track. But at least I'll know how to handle situations when the occasion presents itself here, if it's at least free-speech on a talk page. I don't have many more places to go, lol.

Thanks in advance and it's good seeing you around again. Regards, John Bringingthewood (talk) 00:19, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What's up man!
I actually was retired but decided to come back to stay.
Answering your question, I did nothing specific, just expressed myself how I wanted, and to be honest I thought I'd get banned for life, but it didn't happen surprisingly and fortunately. So... just do it, just express your thoughts Sergio Skol (talk) 21:32, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good for you! :) Yeah, it was specific enough, you're the only one who caught my eye with that. Down deep you may have wanted to not come back ..... and now look, you're here again. It all works out in the end. I may not take that approach, with my luck I would be used as a learning experience for others, lol. Bagumba is a good person, anything he sends my way was always in my best interest. That's my two cents.

Thank you very much for the reply and we'll catch up again I'm sure.

Bye for now. John Bringingthewood (talk) 21:49, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sergio.

I don't believe you're really retired, lol. Basically I wanted to see if you were going to branch out and remove 'outside', 'inside', 'free and strong' safety from other players also. You're 100% correct with the rule and I'd back you up doing it. That's why I left T. J. alone.

I was just feeling slighted. I'm a huge T. J. Watt ... since college. Now I wait every day for Micah Parsons, Justin Houston etc. to lose there added position. Rules are rules and you did shed light on that for me, which I thank you. Will you be hitting all the other players soon? - Bringingthewood (talk) 20:36, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I actually was, but decided to come back.
And yeah, I'll edit as many players as I can ASAP, I was just waiting to see if somebody didn't undo the edit, because several admins or "higher ranking" Wikipedians do whatever they want without caring much about the rules, and didn't want to lose too much time if someone was going to undo the edits. Luckily it did not happen, so I'mma edit a lot of players. Regards =) Sergio Skol (talk) 21:59, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cool.

I understand that. With what you provided as backup, that actually eased the pain in my chest when I saw the T. J. Watt edit. I'm guessing editors will abide by what you put in the summary, including a few admins. ; )

Thanks for the response! Bringingthewood (talk) 22:06, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I hope they do not undo edits just because they want to, I can get it when someone edits and doesn't add any reference nor Wikipedia rule, but when I you do it? I simply cannot understand them.
It'd piss me off if they undo it with no reason Sergio Skol (talk) 22:37, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. Best bet is to keep a clear head. You have the template to back you up. If I see an IP or drive-by shooter .. I'll revert it, not a problem. An experienced editor or admin., I would have to say would need a conversation. We can always have fun in the meantime.  :) Bringingthewood (talk) 22:58, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth vs. hometown[edit]

Hello Sergio,

Just a reminder that a player's "hometown" listed in their college bios is very often not the same place they were born. I was born in Arizona but my hometown is 350 miles away, in another state. Other people were born in one city but grow up and attend high school in a nearby city.

Sometimes, their college bios will state their place of birth in a "Personal" section near the bottom. For example, Jaydon Grant's Oregon State bio clearly states he was born in Portland, even though his hometown is West Linn. Conversely, Jaylin Williams was not born in Memphis, which is listed as his hometown on his Indiana bio, but rather in the state of Mississippi, as stated here. Cheers, JTtheOG (talk) 02:39, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!, thanks for the clarification.
TBH, I saw that page you linked but I didn't read it all, perhaps it was my mistake, excuse me.
I didn't read it because I don't know if IndyStar.com is a reliable source, but I guess that it is.
I'll try to read the whole reference before editing the Wiki page. Thanks again =) Sergio Skol (talk) 05:14, 25 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No worries! Just trynna clear up any confusion. I wouldn't say it's necessary to read entire references when just editing a page. I would say it's important to make sure that there's a source that confirms any information you're adding. Also by the way, IndyStar is short for The Indianapolis Star. :) Saludos, hermano. Pre-1982 sacks[edit]

Hi Sergio, The only reason I removed the sacks again for Joe Greene is that the infobox is for official stats. I've done a couple of dozen over the last week or so. I've even amended the sack total, for example Lawrence Taylor's page. Thank God many were corrected already, like Dexter Manley for example. There's another user doing the same thing I'm doing and it's crazy to go back and forth every couple of weeks. Know what I mean? Bringingthewood (talk) 20:09, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I get you, but we have PFR, a reliable source to add sacks.
So could you show me some Wikipedia rule or discussion where ir says clearly that infoboxes are "only for official stats"?, since I have never seen it on Template:Infobox NFL biography or WP:NFLINFOBOX. Thx =) Sergio Skol (talk) 20:33, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No written rule. It just would make one heck of a mess. While I was removing and editing the sacks, I saw a lot of pages with what I did with L.T. (Corrected officially already) Being that PFR just came up with an unofficial list and going back to 1960, we have to change everything here? There was a user that was putting the Gastineau season with 20 sacks or more as tied with J. J. Watt. One thing leads to another. Too many references will have to be added (this is official, but he has this many more because of PFR). Official stat since 1982, unofficial since 1960. Crazy. Besides, the user who removed the sacks for Deacon Jones multiple times, will continue to do so. Then maybe a vote, yet again, for something to change. Besides, unofficial sacks listed here are at a minimum. Do I make a little bit of sense with this? Bringingthewood (talk) 20:53, 19 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do not get me wrong, you have a good point about only wanting to add official statistics. But my point, once again, is that PFR is one of the best sources (and personally think it's the best) of NFL stats.
It ain't like we are taking stats from quarterbacksacks.com or something like that, even the infobox includes a parameter to add the player's profile in PFR.
Plus, I think the more information there is, the better.
But I suggest that you start a discussion (please tag me on it) to find out what others Wikipedians think about and make the best decision. =) Sergio Skol (talk) 17:34, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, I like PFR also. I'm going to contact @Rockchalk717 and go from there. Just saying, if editors do go with 1960, there will have to be a project created. Many players will have to be amended and reference, showing what's official and what isn't. PFR has the stats, but it's more for a knowledge purpose. Al Baker still won't become the season sack leader etc. I'll send a message over to him and keep you informed with what's progressing. Thanks for responding. :) Bringingthewood (talk) 23:25, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It seems perfect to me, I'll be waiting to find out what we will do. Sergio Skol (talk) 00:48, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. Anything comes my way, you'll hear about it. See you around. Bringingthewood (talk) 03:42, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if it was intended to have it here or elsewhere but regarding sacks: I don't think I could find a link to it but we have had discussions about infobox stats in the past but nothing specifically related official/unofficial stats. Using Pro Football Reference only for sacks before 1982 feels like a violation of WP:UNDUE because we're giving undue weight to a single source, that is on occasion inaccurate, that openly admits to sack stats being unofficial prior to 1982. They also state here [1] not all sacks are accounted for so the number may not 100% accurate either, especially for older players like Deacon Jones. Where this gets tricky is players that played in the official and unofficial eras both. As so much on Wikipedia is based what it is official (player/coach pages aren't updated until a transaction is official for example), there is no reason is include unofficial sacks. Just because it can be verified doesn't mean it should be or guarantee inclusion per WP:ONUS.--Rockchalk717 14:27, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
