Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Sally Morningstar. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Sally Morningstar, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the COI guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. - CorbieV 19:25, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

August 2019[edit]

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because the username, Sally Morningstar, matches the name of a well-known, living person.

If you are the person represented by this username, please note that the practice of blocking such usernames is to protect you from being impersonated, not to discourage you from editing Wikipedia. You may choose to edit under a new username (see information below), but keep in mind that you are welcome to continue to edit under this username. If you choose to do so, we ask the following:

  1. Please be willing and able to prove your identity to Wikipedia.
  2. Please send an email to info-en@wikimedia.org. Be aware that the volunteer response team that handles email is indeed operated entirely by volunteers, and the reply may not be immediate.

If you are not the person represented by this username, you are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this notice, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. 331dot (talk) 21:21, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Sally Morningstar", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because usernames which might be seen as a representing a specific identifiable person (particularly someone with a Wikipedia article written about them like Sally Morningstar) can only be used if it's account holder's WP:REALNAME; even in such cases, however, an account may be soft blocked as a precaution against any potential damaging impersonation until the account holder's identity can be verified. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:24, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate that I seem to have made an error in editing Sally Morningstar, even though that living person is myself - I had no idea I was not allowed to edit something written about me! I have written to Wikipedia offering to prove that I am this said person and hope this will prevent deletion of my Wikipedia entry. I don't think my publishers will be very happy if it is taken down because of an innocent mistake on my part to update my information. I am happy to comply with your rules, and am in process of attempting to do the right thing here. Thank you. Sally Morningstar Sally Morningstar (talk) 08:57, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The block is only to confirm your identity; once that email is processed, the block may be lifted. As I stated at the Teahouse, you are welcome to make edit requests(click for instructions) on the article talk page or(in this case) comment on the deletion discussion. Please read the autobiography policy for more information. Please also understand that Wikipedia is not concerned with what your publishers might think or want with regards to an article about you being on Wikipedia. Whether there is an article or not depends purely on whether there are sufficient independent reliable sources about you that show if you meet Wikipedia's special definition of a notable author. Not every author merits an article here, it depends on the sources and coverage they give. 331dot (talk) 09:25, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Are you the same person as SallyMorningstar? If you are, you should disclose this. Otherwise, they might be an imposter. TheAwesomeHwyh 05:18, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
