Hi MrOllie,
A stand-alone article regarding "https://structure.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Structure/icn3d/" is forthcoming by "someone" (perhaps myself). Descriptive documentation currently exists at https://structure.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Structure/icn3d/icn3d.html. The software author may not have time soon to create the Wikipedia Page. I am a new author here but long time financial supporter of Wikipedia and associate of the author. Does a webpage template exist where I can enter minimal starting info to get the ball rolling? As a person with a conflict of interest, neither the software author nor their associates should be writing such an article, or adding links to this software to Wikipedia. MrOllie (talk) 02:18, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Who writes the articles and updates links? My interests is as a novice user of the free open source software for the Biotech community. I happened to meet the author during an Antibody Engineering hackathon in August of this year where I was introduced to several useful software packages; iCn3D being one and Jupyter Notebooks being the other. If it is appropriate, I would like to share with you a recent communication email chain I shared with the author at NCBI regarding this topic and see if that changes your level of concern. Are you able to provide an email address or should I publish that chain here in the talk pages (it might be excessively long and expose email addresses that probably would be better not published)? Wikipedia isn't a link directory, the external links you were trying to add do not belong regardless of what might be said in some emails. See WP:YFA for how to create a draft and then submit it to Articles for Creation (AfC) review process. Only once successful can such an article be added to a list of Wikipedia articles. As for the software creator or you as an associate can create such an article, the answer is "Yes, but." Anyone with a connection must describe that connection on their own User page. Do not publish an email chain anywhere. The would have no value. What is essential for a draft to be accepted is published content, independent of the article editors, that can be used as references.
