Long time, no talk

Hey Rehman, how ya been? Haven't seen ya around much lately. I've been working on the red-links at List of pumped-storage hydroelectric power stations.--NortyNort (Holla) 09:21, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Hey! Thanks, doing good actually, in the real world. ;) Was unable to work on time-consuming stuff lately, have only been attending to quick watchlist-linked stuff and assisting in deletion backlogs at Commons. Have a lot of work, exams, family time (sister' wedding), and others coming up again, so not really sure when can I stark working with you guys again. I see you're still kickin'; great work with all the hydro stuff, I saw a lot of your work via watchlist. Thanks again of the message. Do feel free to throw work at me if needed, or at Common if you need any file help. Can't guarantee that it will be done instantly, but it will be done... :) Best regards, Rehman 09:30, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Ulla-Førre

Hi, Rehman. I am proposing to merge articles about the Ulla-Førre hydroelectric complex into single article. Your opinion is appreciated. The discussion is here. Beagel (talk) 16:22, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi Beagel. Nice to hear from you again. Will look into this as I get the time. Best regards, Rehman 16:24, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for all your hard work on Jackie Evancho's upcoming album. We're not sure what the exact title will be, though, so would you kindly keep track of the redirects, and if the name of the album changes, fix the redirects? All the best, and Happy Editing! -- Ssilvers (talk) 16:36, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi, thanks! Actually I'm mostly at work these days, so I'm unable to put my full effort like how I used to. Will work on the pages whenever I get the time. But will surely keep an eye on the album titles/redirects. Best regards, Rehman 02:16, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi. A look at the Wikipedia article for each song shows the names of the songwriters - that's how I assembled the information. The one piece of information that we do not know is what the exact name of the album will be. The person who deleted the songwriter info has a WP:COI with respect to the article, so I don't see why we are tolerating him deleting the songwriter information. Of course, there is no rush, since more information about the article will come out. All the best! -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:05, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

How dumb of me; I'll restore the songwriters :) I didn't want to be too hard on him as I don't want him to feel like the Wikipedia community is a bunch of rough nutcrackers, particularly if he is a real Evancho as his username suggests. :P After all, some of the Evanchos are actually on Wikipedia, as editors I mean. Regards, Rehman 15:32, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Infobox power station

Hi, Rehman. How is life? I hope you are still interesting about developing template:Infobox power station. I propose that we should add specific skeleton template also for wave farms as I have a feeling that the skeleton for all other types of power stations is too conventional power station specific and therefore not the best solution for the wave farms. I remember there was a discussion about this but I can't it find anymore. What do you think—are you interested to create this specific skeleton? Beagel (talk) 14:36, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi Beagel! It's so great to hear from you again :) I really miss working with you all. Life is taking a very tight-scheduled turn for me... I expect at least until the end of June that I will be bombarded with work and studies, and followed by Wikimedia Conference (Wikimania 2012) to be held in Washington in July, and then catchup with work and studies when I return back to Colombo, taking maybe about another month. Thus sadly I wont be back for quite some time to come. :( I do have a lot of plans to improve stuff when I get back, which also includes building some muscles for the power station template, but until then, just simple quick/watchlist stuff. Hope all is well with you and the crew! Again, it's very nice to hear from you! Hope to work with you again soon, Captain! Take care. Rehman 14:59, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. We are waiting you back and I hope that later this year you will have again more time to do all things you planned. Keep going! Beagel (talk) 15:04, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Request for help concerning energy...

Hi,

I noticed you listed yourself as a participant of the Energy WikiProject.

There are 2 new outlines in this area that attempt to consolidate Wikipedia's coverage of their respective subjects, gathering and organizing the articles about them into one place and including descriptions for convenience. The purposes of these outlines are to make it easier for readers to survey or review a whole subject, and to choose from Wikipedia's many articles about it.

The new energy outlines are:

Please take a look at them, and....

if you spot missing topics, add them in.
if you can, improve the descriptions.
add missing descriptions.
show parent-offspring relationships (with indents).
fix errors.

For more information about the format and functions of outlines, see Wikipedia:Outlines.

Building outlines of existing material (such as Wikipedia) is called "reverse outlining". Reverse outlines are useful as a revision tool, for identifying gaps in coverage and for spotting poor structuring.

Revising a work with multiple articles (such as Wikipedia) is a little different than revising a paper. But the general principles are the same...

As you develop these outlines, you may notice things about the articles they organize. Like what topics are not adequately covered, better ways to structure and present the material, awkward titles, articles that need splitting, article sections lacking {{Main}} links, etc.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me on my talk page or at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Outlines.

Thank you. Sincerely, The Transhumanist 00:55, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

P.S.: see also Outline of energy

Sky city

Hello,

I noticed that you were involved in WikiProject Skyscrapers, and I thought you could help me. I am trying to take Skycity to DYK, considering what an interesting hook it will make. For which, I intend to expand the article as much as I can (to meet DYK expansion standards). For this I request your help to expanding the article and making it a truly great hook.

I am trying to keep all edits at User:TheOriginalSoni/Sky city so that we have more than the traditional 7 days to finish this hook. Hope you shall help!!!

Thanks and cheers!! TheOriginalSoni (talk) 18:14, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Krrish Square

Hi Rehman. Reguarding the Edouard Francois article, to me it looks like the article doesn't actually specify what it is talking about so the actual height may be less-or more-than 400m. --Popthepuff (talk) 06:54, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Hi. The page does in fact clearly say the tallest tower (hotels and offices) will be at least 400m tall. So using this minimum amount is better than not mentioning it at all. And since that site says the highest floors is at 400m, the actual structure could very well be above 400m. Rehman 13:36, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

How have you been?--NortyNort (Holla) 16:39, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

Hey Norty! Been great. I did some editing recently as I got a little time to get online in the past few weeks/months, but still being bogged down by tight schedules. How are you? A lot has changed since the days I was here full-time... :) You live in/around Japan right? Maybe you'd be interested in going for this year's Wikimedia Conference in Hong Kong? Rehman 09:43, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
I am good. I have had some free time lately but still not enough to really get into an FA or anything. There is always a lot of little things to be fixed. A lot has changed but we made a good consistent foundation for articles and lists which is important. I moved back to the U.S. about a year ago. I won't be making it to HK. I can only travel overseas about once a year and that is usually for scuba diving.--NortyNort (Holla) 21:05, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
Hey Rehman, I had an uneventful peer review for a list I want to nominate for FL. I know you have some experience with FLs; do you mind looking the list over when you get a chance? The PR is archived but i think it is still okay to put comments there. Thanks!--NortyNort (Holla) 21:24, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
Hi. I'm just off to work. Will do it as soon as I come back :) Rehman 00:35, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks!--NortyNort (Holla) 19:38, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
Just an update - I withdrew the nomination. The scope was too general for the list, it needs to be more defined. I will create a list for the tallest dams in China instead.--NortyNort (Holla) 18:55, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
*thumbs up*. Speaking of thumbs up, are you on fb? There's a lovely bunch of wikipeople and groups there... Would be nice to keep in touch off-site, if it's ok with you :) Rehman 12:33, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
Sorry for the late response. I am on Facebook but would like to keep my private life separate from my "Wiki-life". Nothing against you. By the way, I started working on List of tallest dams in China. I need to work on the references then I think it will be ready for FL.--NortyNort (Holla) 20:13, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
No worries, completely understand. Will try to see if I can help you with the FL. Take care. Rehman 02:40, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Krrish Square u/c?

I noticed your recent edit to the Krrish Square article. You have been here long enough to know that personal experience is not a verifiable source, so do you have a reliable source such as a newspaper/magazine/online reports that construction has actually started? Astronaut (talk) 10:02, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Yes it's currently u/c. As per the article, ref 3 and 6 states it will commence construction in June, but contrary to that, the construction has only very recently commenced. Stories on this are yet to reach the internet. Will try to upload pictures to Commons if I pass that way. In the mean time, feel free change back from the U/C status for now, if you feel that's right. Rehman 15:37, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Meetup

Hi, I'm Saqib, from Pakistan currently admin on Wikivoyage. I'm planning to visit Sri Lanka next week. I was wondering if we could arrange first meetup of Wikipedians in Sri Lanka during I visit there? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.190.158.139 (talk) 14:18, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi. What period would you be here? Maybe we could host a simple meetup and/or hackathon in Colombo? But I'm afraid folks might be busy due to the ongoing Wikimania... Let me know. Regards, Rehman 14:35, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Hello Rehman. Yes, I was going to attend this years Wikimania but I would attend one next year in UK that's why changed my plans to visit there this time. You can see my user page here [1]. I think not many Colombo Wikipedians would be out of town but anyway we can arrange gathering anytime next week. I would be there from Sunday I guess. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 139.190.158.139 (talk) 15:37, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello. Following up on the discussion in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mother of all, you might be interested in my deletion nomination for The new black. —Largo Plazo (talk) 12:44, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi, done. But it's missing a wiktionary entry. Rehman 03:07, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

The article Hotel Grand Central has been proposed for deletion because : Hotel Grand Central|concern=fails WP:GNG. there is no signficant coverage in third party sources. several travel guides do include it but only to say "it is central but not grand". a typical 70s building of no architectural significance. no events of historic or notable value have been recorded as occurring there other than a human trafficker using it to house his victims and a church using it as one of many temporary locations. it is being demolished and so no future notability is possible.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:09, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi. The page is a perfectly fine stub-class/start-class article. The hotel is being demolished for refurbishment, so there is "future notability". It is quite popular in Singapore, already. More could be included in the page over time (such as the human trafficking or church location subjects you have mentioned yourself). Just like any such start-articles, give it time, it will grow. Also, I don't see why you have to removed large chunks of content (text/references/links) immediately before the PROD? I am reverting the entire series of edits you made in good faith. You are welcome to start a WP:AFD, but I would frankly vote for a keep here. Rehman 02:32, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
Per your request, it is going through the AfD process Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hotel Grand Central. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 03:09, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Dam tour

I see you went on a dam tour, how was it?--NortyNort (Holla) 20:48, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Nah not really a dam tour as such. I went for a community project to build a hospital, in tiny village in rural Walapane. During my visit there, I noticed that there were major dams close by. Knowing I had pending dam articles to be created, I decided to keep an eye out and dedicate some brainpower on the dams as well :) Even though those dams are not really heard of much locally, they are pretty huge and very significant in the environment. Have a lot more work to do! Best, Rehman 15:41, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
Neat. Good on you for helping others, no better feeling. I usually stay aware of local dams when I travel but I haven't done much the last two years. Always nice to see a few.--NortyNort (Holla) 22:55, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
:) Rehman 00:12, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Aw, thanks. You started an article for a dam named after me.--NortyNort (Holla) 22:04, 21 January 2014 (UTC)
Hahah. I did actually almost save a typo with "Norty Dam"! :P Rehman 22:06, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Are you sure your new dam is in Pallegama, coordinates don't look close, or are there multiple villages named Pallegama?♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:48, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi. The coords for Moragahakanda Dam and Kalu Ganga Dam are not 100% accurate, as it's impossible to pinpoint on Google Maps yet. The locations are based on the referenced news pages, and some other non-linked sites online. You could also know something's happening at those coords by looking at the very latest satellite images; there is construction happening in the area (play around with Google Earth's timelime thingy, SPOT images, etc etc). I did not visit these sites though, unfortunately. I did see a project layout map somewhere, still working on a substitute, as it's a non-free image. Rehman 00:12, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Sri Lankan "ministers" articles

Why did you delete the Sri Lankan "ministers" articles rather than redirect them to the "ministry" articles? There were a number of articles which linked to the "ministers" articles and these links have now been lost.--obi2canibetalk contr 16:27, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Per the note mentioned along with the G6 tag, I intend to manually change those links, as they were only created last month. Those redirect titles were also not very useful as well. Since you have re-created those redirects, I guess there is no urge to manually correct those links now. Rehman 17:37, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
I have to agree with Obi2canibe on this there was no need to delete those when redirecting would have sufficed. Also I don't agree with edits such as this and this. These should be separated into "ministers" and "ministry", the way it was before, as these are hardly unfinished. I only agreed to the merging of the unfinished lists with just the one or two ministers, not all.--Blackknight12 (talk) 11:38, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
You haven't rejected nor commented anything so far on my last post, hence I believed that you had no further issue. Rehman 15:07, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
Sorry I may have just forgot you replied. However I did make it clear it should be only the unfinished lists that be merged as the norm is to split the offices separate to the office holders ("ministers" articles and "ministry" articles). Minister of Sports (Sri Lanka), Minister of Defence (Sri Lanka), Minister of External Affairs (Sri Lanka), Minister of Finance and Planning, Minister of Justice (Sri Lanka) and Minister of Highways, Ports & Shipping all had the right to be their own article regardless of the size and development of its respective "ministry" article. Therefore I shall restore those listed to how they were before, of course the rest will stay as is.--Blackknight12 (talk) 13:56, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
Please give the RFC some time before you do that. Thanks. Rehman 15:44, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
Either way since the procedure to merge these articles was done incorrectly I think it would be best to restore them from there deletions and move on from there with the RFC, as Obi2canibe mentioned before the history of the article will be saved.--Blackknight12 (talk) 16:12, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Help with user page redesign

Hello Rehman, you have an attractive and useful user page! May I ask for your help on improving mine? Djembayz (talk) 17:26, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi Djembayz. Thank you. As much as I like to help, I'm afraid I don't have the time to do so these days. Even the stuff I've been doing recently are all basically "on the run". But of course, you are welcome to grab codes from my page and use it in yours. If you need any technical assistance in any particular part of the page/code, just let me know, and I'll see what I can do. :) Rehman 17:40, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Error in Infobox dam

Whatever changes you made to the template are causing error messages to pop up in article infoboxes (see Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and Glen Canyon Dam, for example), as well as the top of the template page itself, when there are no geographic coordinates for the power station entered in the template. I don't know enough about templates to determine where the problem lies, but this needs to be fixed. Deor (talk) 14:29, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Adding that this seems to affect nearly all articles using the infobox, as can be seen by doing null edits to refresh them. I'm going to revert your edits to the template for now (since I'm not sure you're on WP at the moment), before the queue catches up and the error message begins to be displayed in almost all dam articles. Deor (talk) 14:42, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks for the goodfaith action. But I'll have to revert that soon. There is an active bot run going on to update fields, please wait till that's complete. If there is anything wrong, please comment on the existing discussion at the template's talkpage. Best regards, Rehman 17:47, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
the Template:Infobox dam/testcases page shows there are problems with the proposed new version. Frietjes (talk) 19:16, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
The page you linked uses the old field names. Please see my reply to your post at the template talk. Thanks, Rehman 23:59, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Something you might like

Hi Nuclear power in Sri Lanka might be something you might like to expand upon.--Blackknight12 (talk) 04:57, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi, thanks. That article only has one sentence, which is directly copied from Electricity in Sri Lanka. Hence I have redirected it to the section in the parent article. Based on the current energy situation in the country, I personally don't expect nuclear power to be a reality for a long time, but who knows... Right now, there is no information about local nuclear power, other than political discussions and WP:CRYSTAL stuff. Rehman 06:05, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi, just dropping by since you are both an old hand at WP, and a member of the Sri Lanka project. I came across problems at this article and have taken some fairly firm editorial action, and raised a sticky issue at the talk page. I don't really want to get involved, but i was concerned about some of the sourcing etc. It'd be great if some other uninvolved eyes were on this just in case there are problems. Cheers, hamiltonstone (talk) 11:22, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Looking at it end-to-end after reading your post at the talkpage, I would actually vote for deletion on notability grounds. Like you said, nearly all links are either stuffs relating to selling his books, or self-loaded stuff. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to start an AFD at this moment... Cheers, Rehman 14:13, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Infobox Power Station

Please see Template_talk:Infobox_power_station#Changes_to_template - the proposals you made, and that were carried out were not announced on any talk page, and the fixes promised have not happened. 83.100.174.82 (talk) 01:38, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

The changes were announced on the template talkpage, the relevant wikiproject pages, and on talkpages of key people who maintain the template. The changes are progressing as and when the volunteers can find time. Please be patient, and help in if possible. Rehman 23:24, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

  1. Please check out the rules here. Some rules have been adjusted—the most important being that on the English Wikipedia, stubs may be expanded with some limitations.
  2. Do take the time to read the Q&A if you have any questions, or ask on the talk page.
  3. The list of participants has been alphabetized so you can more easily find your name and report your contributions.
  4. There is a template that you can use on your user page. {{Template:User Asian Month‎}}

Enjoy the Wikipedia Asian Month :) --AddisWang (talk)

Ways to improve Ace Horana Power Station

Hi, I'm SireWonton. Rehman, thanks for creating Ace Horana Power Station!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Good start! This is a nice new page, keep it up. However you may want to add more references if possible.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. SireWonton 04:11, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi. I'm still working on it. Thanks anyways. Rehman 04:22, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Season's Greetings

Hi Rehman, You've been doing some very good work again this year... well done, and have an enjoyable festive season... best wishes... Johnfos (talk) 23:14, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi John, thank you so much! I wish you and your loved ones the same. Warm wishes, Rehman 13:54, 22 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi again Rehman,
I think you make a good point here. While the river may be known as "Kotmale River" in English, perhaps it may well be better known in the transliteration from Sinhalese as "Kotmale Oya" in a majority of English language sources? Can you cite those reliable third-party references? That would be a great help, as I am also searching for reliable third-party references in English about whether this article should be "Kotmale Oya" or "Kotmale River".
Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 10:49, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Peter. Here are some more reliable sources using the term "Kotmale Oya": [2][3][4][5]. A number of other not-that-notable sites use "Kotmale River" most probably because the Wikipedia article was with that name since 2010. Rehman 12:32, 30 December 2015 (UTC)
@Shirt58: Hi again. Based on the above, would you be able to move the article back please? I don't feel comfortable reverting your revert again... As for the talkpage, please go ahead and delete the page with only tags, and we have two talkpages now. Rehman 15:56, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Please do not reopen nominations just because you wish them to continue. PresN advised you to renominate, not just revert his closure. That is the path to take. – SchroCat (talk) 07:06, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

That seems to be the best way forward without duplicating work/spending more time, as there was no objections from PresN either. Anyway, since this is the second revert, I will follow that suggestion. No hard feelings. Rehman 07:14, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
I see that you now have separate tables for coal and gas. Last time I checked, you had not made them separate, or responded to my comment that I regard it as crucial. If you had made the change earlier, or pinged me when you did make it, I would have supported - subject to a final check of the article. Dudley Miles (talk) 11:23, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
