Welcome![edit]

Hello, Neptune Mutual, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Edward Ryall, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable and have already been the subject of publication by reliable and independent sources.

Please review Your first article for an overview of the article creation process. The Article Wizard is available to help you create an article, where it will be reviewed and considered for publication. For information on how to request a new article that can be created by someone else, see Requested articles. If you are stuck, come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can help you through the processes.

November 2022[edit]

Information icon Hi RYALL EC! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Edward Ryall several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Edward Ryall, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. 331dot (talk) 12:46, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Understood and thanks for feedback. I am just starting off and so trying to understand the process and user interface (not the most intuitive I must say).
Sort of difficult to understand (particularly with all the filters and restrictions) why or how "Edward Ryall" could be redirected to "Ian Pretyman Stevenson" profile that has absolutely nothing to do with and doesn't reference Edward Ryall. But none-the-less I understand your comment and try and see how to bring about the change with the Talk feature (I have already written and lost a couple of times the updated profile of Edward Ryall that keeps reverting to Ian Stevenson which is more than a little frustrating).
Again - thanks for message. RYALL EC (talk) 12:52, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The redirect appears to be related to a case study performed by Stevenson. If Edward Rydall merits a Wikipedia article(see the notability criteria), that would certainly take precedence, but the first text placed there appeared to be more of a resume than an encyclopedia article summarizing independent reliable sources with significant coverage. Writing a new article is the most difficult task to perform on Wikipedia, and it is highly advised to first gain experience by editing existing articles and using the new user tutorial. You may submit a draft article via Articles for creation and if accepted, it will be placed at the proper title. 331dot (talk) 13:00, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The first text was really just a "place holder" because removal of the redirect wasn't possible without some text. Two more developed profiles of Edward Ryall with extensive links to external references were deleted as a result of the request to remove the redirect being rejected.
Quite frankly it seems absurd to have an individual's profile Ian Stevenson "owning" a redirect from somebody else's name, irrespective of whether that other person merits their own profile or not.
I have posted a request in the talk section of Ian Stevenson requesting the removal of the redirect.
Quite willing to re-write the extensive profile again complete with external links relating to Edward Ryall - and associated activity as a successful blockchain and deeptech entrepreneur, startup angel investor, business school Professor etc. RYALL EC (talk) 13:09, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to remove the redirect irrespective of whether an article about Rydall is created, you may go to redirects for discussion. 331dot (talk) 13:45, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the link ... but I have to say it's not entirely obvious how to proceed.
Seems a rather simple issue - if you search for an Apple on Wikipedia you don't get redirected to an Orange, just because there's a book about fruit that in the reference section of Oranges.
From what I can make out it is possibly a U1 User Request but it looks like hours of reading to figure out how to request the removal of a redirect.
How exasperating. RYALL EC (talk) 14:47, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you find the instructions on that page too complicated, I would be willing to open it up for you(though it may not be today). As I said, the redirect appears to be related to a case study performed by that person(someone looking for the subject of the case study would be redirected to the person who performed the study). That isn't exactly an Apple to Orange situation, more like an applesauce to apple situation. 331dot (talk) 14:54, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Any help much appreciated.
Edward Ryall ... referenced in the article is an Edward W Ryall (author without a profile or Wikipedia biography), and is a completely different person from the Edward Ryall, that I would like to create a biography for. So yes it is very clearly Apple and Orange situation as there are 2 different Edward Ryall's. If a new Wikipedia profile is created for Edward Ryall (entrepreneur), and any form of redirect link is maintained with Ian Stevenson it will be completely incorrect and misleading.
As I said, I obviously have no problem with Edward (W) Ryall being referred to in the Ian Stevenson description, but it does not seem right to "block" the legitimate creation of a profile for a different Edward Ryall (assuming notability criteria are acceptable) because of a reference made elsewhere on Wikipedia to someone else of this name who is not eligible for the creation of a profile with this name.
As mentioned, am just starting out with commenting/editing Wikipedia so all suggestions / comment and guidance is welcome (please excuse any frustration on my part) RYALL EC (talk) 15:09, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you are looking for a speedy deletion criteria that would apply, I'm not really seeing one- U1 is for a user requesting deletion of their user page or other page they created. Removing it would need to be a discussion at WP:RFD. 331dot (talk) 14:55, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have opened the discussion for you; you may find it at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 November 24. I copied one of your comments here to there, but feel free to write a new comment in your own words. I would also add that if you enable the Twinkle feature in your account preferences, it could make some editing and reporting tasks easier. Just a suggestion. 331dot (talk) 15:21, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks much appreciated. Obviously, I hope that just because there's a reference to Edward W Ryall (without a biography) in Ian Stevens biography doesn't preclude a legitimate entry/biography for "Edward Ryall" that meets notability criteria ... to me that just wouldn't be fair or actually make much sense. But obviously I'll let the process run its course. Thanks again for helping out. RYALL EC (talk) 15:48, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
