Odia[edit]

Hi, for adding content in Odia script, please try https://or.wikipedia.org/. There are also links to corresponding Odia article in the Languages block (on the left-hand side by default) of many Odisha-related articles on English Wikipedia. Thanks.—Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 11:08, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Cpt.a.haddock: : I added the Odia names only in the cases of temples that are present in Odisha and are related to its culture. Think of it as the name in Native Language. This is a general practice and I do not see what is wrong in it. - Prateek Pattanaik (talk) 11:49, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Cpt.a.haddock: : You can see examples of such usage as a general practice in articles like Mahakaleshwar Temple and Mahabodhi Temple.

Thank you. I've removed those as well. Adding the name in Odia/Indic script is largely unnecessary, unhelpful, and not general practice in English-language scholarly sources. It is also a slippery slope leading to clutter and editwars; WP:INDICSCRIPTS was brought in for a reason. Those who want to find out about an article's Odia orthography can simply read the Odia Wikipedia article. If you would like to add an Odia pronunciation, please use IPA and/or add an audio pronunciation guide as seen in Odisha. (And I see that Bhubaneswar only has a pronunciation guide for Bhubaneshwar.)—Cpt.a.haddock (talk) (please ping when replying) 07:58, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Cpt.a.haddock: : Thanks for the help, Haddock. I'll add the IPAs and the audio pronunciations soon. -Prateek Pattanaik (talk) 08:13, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Konark Sun Temple, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Makara (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Notice

The article Journal of Comparative Literature and Aesthetics has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable journal. Not indexed in any selective databases, no in-depth independent sources about the journal. Does not meet WP:NJournals or WP:GNG (see also WP:NOTINHERITED.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If you copy from one article to another[edit]

you must, for copyright reasons, indicate that, and the simplest way is to add something in the edit summary saying copied from [[this article]]. If you haven't done that, you can do a "null edit" - edit a section by adding a space, then in the edit summary write "null edit" and the link etc. Doug Weller talk 17:23, 7 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    • @Doug Weller: : Thanks for the tip. Since I had written the paragraph in the initial article too, I wrongly considered there was no need to reiterate it. Prateek Pattanaik (talk) 02:44, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
      • I understand, but as it's easy to check to see where text comes from (something a number of us do simply to make sure it's not a copyright violation, there's a lot of that), making it clear saves time. Doug Weller talk 08:27, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Ramhari Das has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Northern Escapee (talk) 13:05, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Northern Escapee: Thank you for the message. I published the article accidentally without adding all sources, and promptly corrected my error soon. If you notice, one of the sources is the Sangeet Natak Akademi, the premier cultural institution of India, a governmental body. I think that qualifies as a very reliable source, and hence this tag can be safely removed. Meanwhile, I will continue to add more references, as is the norm. -Prateek Pattanaik (talk) 13:33, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Prateek Pattanaik, thanks for the work you do here. kindly always remember to include sources in articles you create before publication as this is one of the fundamental editorial policies. Regards. Northern Escapee (talk) 18:34, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Bichitrananda Swain, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Introduction to contentious topics[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
