China[edit]

how supportive is the Chinese government of Wikipedia and is it even legal? Michael H 16:05, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to try to respond and maybe point you to several helpful sources when I get out of China and feel a bit safer talking about this sensitive topic, but seeing that you are already blocked, I will spare my efforts and give a short answer.
Wikimedia censorship in mainland China
However,

WMC describes itself as the only group representing the Wikimedia movement in mainland China. The group has held offline meetups in Beijing and Shenzhen and claimed, as of September, to have more than 300 members.

From a slate article. It's clear here that at least some mainland Chinese Wikipedians are not afraid to let others know that they work on Wikipedia. PetraMagna (talk) 22:56, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Run (meme)[edit]

On 18 March 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Run (meme), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that "runology" is the study of how to run away from China? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Run (meme). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Run (meme)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
