December 2022[edit]

Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Rocky Mountain Bicycles, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 09:12, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi.
One source is from the Paul brodie book, this is available on amazon.
The next source is https://www.brodiebicycles.com/brodie-blog/the-story-of-paul-brodie-bicycles-and-motorcycles
I am looking for other sources. Paul in toronto (talk) 09:16, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Here is several more sources.

The original rocky mtn bicycle frames had a standard geometry and straight top tube.
The radically sloping top tube and updated geometry is largely credited to Paul brodie, experimenting.
This was adopted by rocky mtn, but designed by Paul Brodie.Brodie. Paul in toronto (talk) 09:29, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You removed a bunch of edits on the rocky mountain bicycles page that had citations.
I can understand, some could be viewed as promotional... which was not the intention.
I think, I got the wrong idea of what "wikipedia" was susposed to be about.. which was providing truthful information for future generations that could be lost forever. Unfortunely, this information does not always have multiple citations, as people were not considering these things in 1970 or even the 80's,
or back in medieval times.
You also removed the timeline history, which is included in I believe the french version of the page..did you check this before removing it ? A time line of events is important to any page. Paul in toronto (talk) 05:06, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I not only added the timeline from this page, I spent time translating it.
https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocky_Mountain
and I listed off several if not multiple citations for my other edits. Paul in toronto (talk) 05:20, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Magped pedals requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Magped pedals moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Magped pedals, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. JML1148 (Talk | Contribs) 05:04, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ok..
now in future if I write an article with all the bells and whistles needed, im actually able to publish without waiting days, months and years for someone to approve it ? Paul in toronto (talk) 05:07, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

February 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm DarkAudit. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Paul Brodie (frame builder)—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Thanks. DarkAudit (talk) 07:58, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you're aware[edit]

Writing an article about yourself, no matter how notable or reliably sourced, is really, REALLY bad form. DarkAudit (talk) 08:12, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Paul Brodie could die of cancer in the near future so rather then wait months for this to be approved I published it. Paul in toronto (talk) 08:16, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And I am happy to continue to edit it, and provide additional citations. Paul in toronto (talk) 08:19, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In its present state, it's very likely to get deleted. To avoid that, I would strongly recommend that you move it to Draft:Paul Brodie (frame builder), and work on it there. 2A01:4C8:63:D401:50EE:5892:2A81:6B1C (talk) 08:55, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What are the further edits and citations that are needed ? Paul in toronto (talk) 09:07, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The tone is like a blog post or a magazine article: wording like "humble beginnings", "iconic", "passion", etc. is fine for a magazine, but not an encyclopedia. Also, all of the unsourced stuff about his early life and more recent personal life has to go. Have a read of WP:Biographies of living persons for more on this. 2A01:4C8:63:D401:50EE:5892:2A81:6B1C (talk) 09:25, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok understood, not like a magazine or blog, no flair or style.
I was trying to figure out how to add his published autobiography as a reference, but I could not find a cite example to do this. Paul in toronto (talk) 09:30, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
On an unrelated note.
I am editing an article on history of cape verde.
It is difficult to find references for citations. However, on I believe the portguese
or danish version of the page, there is several references given, im assumimg books
they are all in foreign language. I do not think they have isbn numbers, but perhaps
they have something similar but foreign.
Can these be used on the english language article, and how.
Alternatively, there is maybe a few english language references that could be used
as citations for several parts of the article. Paul in toronto (talk) 18:23, 6 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What this article needs, apart from some solid citations, is writing it proper continuous English. Y'know, sentences with verbs and all that.TheLongTone (talk) 15:37, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Im thinking my best option for the history of cape verde, is to run it through an online grammar checker to tidy up the sentences.
While I would prefer not use a checker, it will provide good examples.
Is there one that you recommend ? Paul in toronto (talk) 02:15, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And btw knocking out horrible phraeseology does not mean removing style.TheLongTone (talk) 15:39, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Noted.
Unrelated note. Dark audit and TheLoneTone are the same person ?
Unrelated note two. Damien hirst, "dots". Rumour is he lifted this idea from futura 2000. However I want to believe its original, and his inspiration came from elsewhere. Any thoughts on this
Futura 2000 uses the dots theme, on the custom painted colnago frames he did. Also there is the wonder bread logo, some have pointed at hirst for this. Paul in toronto (talk) 02:30, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Foreign language refs are allowed in English Wikipedia, although English preferred if available. David notMD (talk) 08:21, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Brodie (frame builder) moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Paul Brodie (frame builder), is not suitable as written to remain published. It appears there is a WP:UPE or WP:COI conflict. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, and have addressed the UPE/COI issue, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. As per WP policy, please do not move into mainspace yourself. Onel5969 TT me 13:50, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I did not sign up for wikipedia to rustle any feathers,
I do however, have issue with the thousands upon thousands of pages about one trick youtube personalities or general slags of humanity that have pages.
When meanwhile, there is alot of individuals out there that contributed alot to society, or scenes, that unfortunely do not have pages and pages written about them in people magazine or whatever "reference" wikipedia has decided to deem acceptable.
So what happens, because the references or person is obscure, they are lost to time forever,
So instead of removing my page, which had multiple citations.. I would appreciatte if you
could assist me, in fixing whatever issues you have decided to use against it.
Once again, not here to start battles or upset people. I am also interested in asisting with this.. is it called barnstormers thing? Im not sure why certain pages are not locked to prevent vandalism
I await your reply. Paul in toronto (talk) 04:43, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also want to add, if wikipedia is only going to accept citations from certain sources, then that in itself is a "conflict of interest". Paul in toronto (talk) 05:07, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The 'reliable source only' rule for refs is Wikipedia's desire to be an encyclopedia. Within medical/health there is an even more restrictive rule, allowing only refs that review the rresults of multiple human trials, thus barring animal research and individual human trials. David notMD (talk) 09:36, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Intermittent fasting[edit]

Personally, not convinced. To see science journal lit on any topic, go to https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ If an initial search turns up too many results, the search can be limited to only review articles, or even further to only meta-analyses (formal reviews of multiple clinical trials). David notMD (talk) 09:34, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Im the kind of guy, that actually tries things on myself.
I tried intermittant fasting today, but a hostess cupcake (2 pack, black label),
and variety of other western delicacies took precedent. I will try again later in the week, and I will check out pubmed.
Is there a list of reliable sources for medical/health?
also tmz is listed as a reliable source, im prone to agree because the guy is a lawyer, and alot of new agencies cite them. Paul in toronto (talk) 09:53, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is a subset of science journals that are referred to as 'predatory', meaning that they charge authors to publish, and do not have an editorial review process to screen and reject poorly designed, poorly executed or poorly written submissions. See Predatory publishing, which includes a partial list. David notMD (talk) 10:27, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Submt or not?[edit]

Decide to submit or not. There is a backlog of thousands of draft submitted to AfC. Not a queue. Reviewers pick what to review, so could be days, weeks, or even months until reviewed. You can continue to work while waiting for a reviwer. If declined, reviewer will identify weakness, often inadequate references. David notMD (talk) 03:16, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Im now in the process of finding as many sources as possible that I can use for citations.
Is this source acceptable, academic journals are cited as being very credible
https://journals.sfu.ca/capreview/index.php/capreview/article/download/2784/2784/2420 Paul in toronto (talk) 07:54, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion, not a help. In a long article about technical mountain biking (at age 72, no longer in my repertoire), there is brief mention of Brodie on page 176. David notMD (talk) 10:59, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ive got about 32 citations now, im aiming for 35.
Your never too old to bike 🤠👍 Paul in toronto (talk) 11:20, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Currently at 40 now, think thats enough ? Lol Paul in toronto (talk) 13:03, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You are going the wrong way. Reviewers look for ref quality, not quantity. Minimally, all that is needed is three great refs to confirm notability, and then others are useful to support facts, but one should not kitchen sink facts and refs that are not central to the notability issue. I will take a look and may trim some stuff. David notMD (talk) 03:09, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Most if not all, serve a purpose.
Ive spent quite a bit of time researching. More references lead to more things to add to the article. Paul in toronto (talk) 03:37, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I will no longer participate. Good luck with the submittal. David notMD (talk) 17:44, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I spent hours looking for those references. I appreciatte your assistance, but I spent hours on something only to see it erased, my time feels very value-less.
Nothing personal, id rather submit it with all of the refs included. Paul in toronto (talk) 22:44, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And furthermore, unfortunely when people were out being "notable" and doing "notable things" there was not always someone writing it down or 5 acceptable references making note of it. Paul in toronto (talk) 19:38, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Theres over 60+ references and you decided its not notable ?
This sounds like a very biased decision, when see lots of articles with barely 5.
very biased 99.231.70.113 (talk) 14:42, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Very biased?
There is 60+ references in the article.
And just because my name is similar does not mean I am him, that seems like its causing some bias here.
I can pull up countless articles with very few references that have been published. Paul in toronto (talk) 19:35, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
