Just a heads up
I thought you might like to know that the Awards Center page has been deleted, along with its newsletter. :(
So, where do we go from here?
To new and even more interesting projects, of course!
As announced in the newsletter, I've been preparing to co-coordinate a large collaboration/competition called Around the World. It was going to be run at the Awards Center, but since that no longer exists, the collaboration will be hosted somewhere else.
Around the World will begin July 15th as planned - it's location will be announced soon.
It'll be a blast. In the competition, participants will be helping to develop over 200 pages (drafts, which will be moved to article space once they are ready), using advanced tools to edit every single one of them!
This is going to be interesting.
And the event shall have awards which are being created specifically for it as we speak!
If you would like me to keep you informed of this and other interesting collaborations I'll be working on and/or organizing in the future, please drop me a note on my talk page, and I'll be happy to keep you in the know.

What is Around the World?
It's a collaboration!
A collaboration using advanced wiki-tools!
If everything goes according to plan, it will begin on July 15th.
The event is being co-sponsored by Wikiproject Lists of basic topics and WikiProject Geography, and participants will be "traveling" all around "the World" visiting each country online (here on Wikipedia and perhaps beyond) as they apply advanced wiki-tools to improve pieces of the profiles of each and every country on Earth!. Each pass through these pages is a "trip around the World..."
The set of pages we are working on is currently located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists of basic topics.
Each page presents essential information on each country in a topic outline format, for ease of overviewing and navigating. Most of the topics presented are linkified, which turns these pages into a hypertextual map to material about each country on Wikipedia. When completed, they shall all become part of Wikipedia's contents system.
The pages share a standard format, with the information on each country presented in the same general order. So rather than getting stuck on a single country trying to complete it, each participant works on all 200+ political entities, completing a single data item or detail across all of the pages!
For this they use advanced tools like WP:AWB, Linky, etc. It goes fast, and since others are doing this at the same time, it makes "the World" feel like a beehive, and the participants are its bees. :) The energy is contagious.
And since you are moving from country to country, the tasks make it feel like you are traveling around the world, and you get to learn a little about every country as you do so. This approach also allows for greater efficiency, because by the time you've done 30 or so of a particular item, you've figured out how to finish it faster and more effectively (such as where to find the data or how to make adjustments), and this specialization speeds up development - but more importantly it reduces errors.
The tasks are varied, which adds even more variety to the project. Some tasks are look-ups-and-fill-ins, some are copy and paste, some are image hunts, some are maintenance adjustments, some are link fixing, some are blue-linking (creating an underlying redirect so a link turns blue), some are fact checking, etc.

There are only about 200 more pages to go!
During the collaboration, co-coordinators will be standing by, to lend a helping hand to participants, provide instruction and tips on how to use the tools, and help them find what they are looking for. Co-coordinators will also be using advanced tools to inspect the work of participants, and touch it up as needed, or if a task was done wrong throughout, point this out to the participant so he or she can make the necessary corrections.
Co-coordinators are working on the set of pages right now, to familiarize themselves with "the World" so they can help more effectively by the time the main event starts. But there's still lots of preparation left to be done, and we are looking for editors experienced in advanced wikitools who would like to become co-coordinators.

Pokemon Red Blue Glitch City
Hi, you voted a while ago in favour of some mention of Glitch City in the Pokemon Red/Blue article. Unfortunately, despite admin saying a Glitch section would be ok, the main editor of the page is turning it into a war, constantly deleting it despite sources and Pokemon-culture relevance. If you have an interest in keeping this kind of interesting information in wikipedia, please come over to Pokemone Red and Blue and help get the small Glitches section reinstated. Hi Patar knight,
Wondering how you go about "moving" a page? I noted the "move" you had made of the page "Battle of Epéhy" to "Battle of Épehy", sometime after I had made a comment about the name's spelling. I've come across something similar, regarding the Battles of the Hindenburgh Line, and I'd like to know how you do it - unless it's a Wiki Admin toy I'm too little to play with :)

Akira Fubuki entry
Hello Patar,
I was wondering what written or unwritten rule I broke that caused you to revert the entry on Akira Fubuki's breast implants back to the original entry ? I changed it back again - before I noticed there was a 'history' page that explained what happened - I didnt want you to think I changed it back just to pee you off. Sorry.
You said something about lack of documentary evidence (paraphrasing from memory) ? But how can one prove a negative ? All you one do is look at her videos and see that her boobs are like two small soccerballs in a sock when she lies on her back.
Indeed, how can the original entry stand, when also her having 'natural' breasts cannot be supported by any documentary evidence or reference ?
It seems Wiki will be forever stuck with whatever entry the originator of the thread decides if an esoteric entry is not contestable ?

Are you looking for a project you can really sink your teeth into?
I noticed you are a member of the Geography WikiProject. I thought you might be interested in this...
A huge collaboration is underway, in which participants all work on 247 pages at a time. That's right, there are 247 pages in the set, and we're all working on all of them! We kind of cheat, by using advanced wikitools like AWB and Linky that let you load or switch between pages quickly (and other tricks).
We're building a geography reference aid for Wikipedia covering every country of the world. Organized as topic outlines (a type of structured list), these pages present maps, pictures, basic information on each country, and links to essential articles about each country on Wikipedia. We have created 247 drafts (one for every country of the world), 28 of which have been completed enough that they've been moved to article space already (so people can make use of them, even though they're still under construction). The rest are getting pretty close.
Each of these pages in turn form part of Wikipedia's outline of knowledge, and when completed, this branch of the outline will be the best general navigation aid for browsing country-related information on Wikipedia.
We're looking for users who love geography, and who use or would like to start using:
- WP:AWB, or
- Firefox, with the Linky add-on, or
- similar tools and/or other tricks
...to edit many pages fast.
While some of us work on completing one country page at a time, most of the work we do entails completing a particular knowledge item on all of the pages. For example, filling in the population figures for each country, or creating redirects to "bluelink" standard link names used throughout the set, or placing a specific type of map on each page, etc. etc.
Working in this way is kind of like traveling around the world, since you get to visit the page of each country of the world to work on it.
Tasks range from the simple (filling in blanks, search/replace, copy/paste) to the more complex (Customizing sections to each country, Google searches of Wikipedia to find relevant articles, etc.).
This project is very important, because information is only useful if you can find it, and these pages show you what's here on Wikipedia without you having to guess at what to type in a search box.
To give you an idea of what these pages will look like when complete, here are the most complete ones so far:

- Topic outline of Japan
- Topic outline of Thailand
- Topic outline of Taiwan

Topic Outlines

- Very cool. Thank you. For easy reference, the entire list can be found here: User:The Transhumanist/Country list. A simple trick to improve navigation on Wikipedia is to use your talk page as a bookmark list as well - just keep your bookmarks at the top of the page. For an example, see my bookmark list at the top of my talk page.
- What needs to be done? Well, the most important thing right now are the government branches sections. Those were filled with standard (template generated) data when the lists were created, filled with the data that fit the largest number of countries. Therefore, that data is incorrect for many countries - not all countries have presidents and prime ministers, for example. The content of each of these sections...
- Executive branch of the government of x
- Legislative branch of the government of x
- Judicial branch of the government of x
... needs to be checked and corrected (where appropriate).
- Another thing you could do is pick one of the "blank" items (with a colon) that needs to be filled in, and fill it in for all the countries. Like pronunciation, or population, or size, or economic rank, or commander-in-chief, etc.
- There are plenty more tasks, but those above should keep you occupied for awhile. :)
- Check the list of "done" countries at the top of the list for formatting, and mimic those for look and feel. I've been working on those to complete them so that they can be used as an example for all the rest.

Upcoming World Development contest
Penubag has been hard at work developing awards for this project. He has completed a very professional looking medal, and is almost done with a trophy that is truly awesome - both of these awards are visually stunning.
I and a few others have been working steadily on the country outlines that will be the focus of the contest - an outline for every country of the world! They're shaping up nicely. So far, 28 of them have been moved to article space - these aren't complete, but they are complete enough to be made available for readers to benefit from them. The rest of the set still includes temporary data that was generated by template (because it matched most but not all of the countries), and before those lists can be moved to article space, all the temporary data needs to be checked for accuracy, and if incorrect it needs to be replaced with correct information.
The effort on the lists has been on 3 fronts:
- Working on the lists in article space to complete them so they will be good examples for editors working on the rest of the set (during the contest).
- Adding or correcting other data (fixing redlinks, filling in blanks, etc.). The main type of work participants in the contest will be doing. The reason we're doing this is to get a feel for it, to develop the fastest methods for each type of task, etc.
- Improving the overall design and implenting changes on all 247 pages, whether in article space or not.
There has been some opposition to us running the contest based on edit counts or iterations. The concern is that we should reward quality work and not quantity, for fear of crappy edits done quickly without thought just to earn an award. I pointed out that the collection of pages are drafts in the Wikipedia namespace (therefore posing no danger to article space) and that most of the work needs to be done with power tools like AWB and Linky (which are specifically designed for repetitive volumnous work), but the reply was that we shouldn't set the precedent of rewarding barnstars for numerically-based tasks, and implied the threat of continuously MfD'ing the contest if we attempted to do so (like they did with the Awards Center - I was very surprised and disappointed that participants didn't step up to defend it). So we need to be careful in determining what exactly the awards will represent, and how they will be awarded.
Since rewarding iterations (passes with AWB on all of the pages in the set) are out, we really don't need the globe-in-stand (award we were working on) anymore. Two awards should suffice.
Once we get started with the contest, I'd like to kick the whole thing off with a round of medals for those dedicated few who have worked hard on the project so far.

China Military redirects and disambig pages
I've been trying to figure out what exactly you have going on here. So far I can see diambig pages that link to other disambig pages, disambig pages that link to a redirect, then redirect to a an article. I'm trying to clean it up, but I think what you need to do is have all of the various spellings of military rank redirect to one (1) disambiguation page, then link those articles listed on the disambig page directly, no redirects, no disambig pages off of another disambig page. I'll leave you to try and clean it up so I don't mess up what you are trying to do, but if it remains as is, redirecting all over, I'll go in and clean it up myself. --Terrillja (talk) 18:34, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

We need your help...
...at the Geography WikiProject, cuz we're working on something BIG...
We've been steadily developing the set of country outlines, and they are getting close to being ready to move to article space. There's over two hundred of them, so when the move takes place it will be a pretty big event.
I and a few others have been working on 3 fronts:
- On the 28 country outlines that have already been moved to article space to complete them so they will be the best examples that they can be for editors working on the rest of the set.
- Adding or correcting other data (fixing redlinks, filling in blanks, etc.) in the overall set. This is the main type of work participants in "the contest" will be doing. The reason we're doing some of this now is to get a feel for it, to develop the fastest methods for each type of task.
- Improving the overall design and implenting changes on all 247 pages, whether in article space or not.
The main thing that needs to be done to the outlines so that they can be moved to article space is correct and complete the government branches sections, many of which include incorrect information that was placed there as temporary data by a template when these pages were created (in order to match the most countries and cut down on the work load). But there are plenty of other tasks too.
We're looking for editors who love to work on lots of pages fast, who use or would like to use advanced tools like AWB and Linky. Most of the tasks entail working on a specific item on all of the pages in the set.
We're having a blast, but we're spread pretty thin and could sure use your help.

I noticed your work on the government branches sections of User:The Transhumanist/Country list. That helps a lot.
Topic outline of Zimbabwe is now in article space. It still needs images and some touch up, but it is complete enough to be useful to readers in general. You might want to look it over to see if you can improve it.

Thanks for the post on my talk page, it's good to be appreciated. :) Anyways, my question is this, for the country outlines, under Military of X, Commander-in-Chief, do we put the nominal CIC (e.g. the President of the US for the US), or the actual commander of the armed forces (e.g. the country's top soldier)? - I'm glad you asked. At least the very top position should be shown, even if it's nominal. You can show more of the chain of command if you'd like. See Topic outline of India#Military of India for an example. I'm pretty sure a couple more of the outlines show a command structure. Please feel free to improve upon the approach used.
