Some licence is given for people to express personal opinions, but Wikipedia is not the place to advocate for distigmatising pedophilia. Your account has been blocked per this policy. -- Euryalus (talk) 10:57, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is a gross misapplication of that policy. It says "advocate inappropriate adult–child relationships" and "expressing the view that inappropriate relationships are not harmful to children" which is very much not what this user has done. They specifically spoke of pedophiles getting help before such a thing could occur. I am becoming very concerned about the way in which this whole situation is unfolding. --Pokelova (talk) 11:04, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

According to at least some researchers who have published papers on the topic in peer-reviewed journals, the stigma of pedophilia makes CSA perpetration more likely to occur; not less likely. And the corollary to that, is that destigmatizing pedophilia would help protect children from harm. It's unfair to block me under a policy meant to protect children when it's plausible that destigmatizing pedophilia would make the world safer for children. I'm sorry if I came across as POV pushy, but as a therapist, I have worked with patients with many different mental health problems, including pedophilia, many of whom waited too long to seek help because they felt stigmatized, so I’m just a little sensitive about people stigmatizing mental illness. Decline reason:

I concur with B-S-Z below; Wikipedia is not the place to right great wrongs- if that's what this is. I think that the policy was correctly applied. 331dot (talk) 20:25, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Can I make a suggestion? If you're a professional and you believe that a different approach to pedophilia which doesn't involve stigma is needed, then Wikipedia is absolutely not the place to try to push that - and arguing for a more pedophile-friendly approach is probably not the best way to be unblocked. Wikipedia (as an encyclopedia) reflects the current state of a topic, and doesn't try to change it. So if society is hostile towards pedophiles and stigmatizes them, and you want to change that, you need to do it elsewhere rather than here. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 14:51, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
