Ercüment Ekrem Talu

Hi Nedim Ardoğa! The article Ercüment Ekrem Talu shows some typos relating to his birth year:

  • 1- Ercüment Ekrem Talu (1886–1956) was a Turkish writer, ...
  • 2- He was born in İstanbul in 1988.
  • 3- Born 1888 (infobox)

Please check. Cheers. CeeGee 16:52, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the warning. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 07:36, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

'Abd al-Hamid ibn Turk

Hi Nedim. I am back again to beg for your assistance!

Do you have access to this book?

  • Yavuz Unat, Ortaçağ İslam dünyası'nda bilim ve teknik: makaleler, p. 130

It is non-viewable from Kansas.[1] Yavuz Unat, is listed as a Prof. of History of Science, so he is a reliable source. As for the book, specifically anything about al-Hamid ibn Turk and/or his ethnicity. Of course, I would accept any other reliable source that mentions al-Hamid ibn Turk. --Kansas Bear (talk) 18:01, 23 January 2017 (UTC)

Bığbığ Ivy

Hi Ndim Ardoğa! I see that you've changed the location of the old tree. However, none of the present sources refer to your change. Can you please provide your source. Thanks. CeeGee 03:49, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I don't know the exact location of the tree and I haven't changed it. I only specified the village. There is no village named "Meydan" in Adana Province. Meydan is a yayla (temporary summer settlement without a legal entity) of Ceritler village . So I renamed the village Ceritler. Cheers. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 13:32, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
  • So, you say it is original research. Ref #1 says Meydan Yaylası, ref #2 says Meydan Köy. I will change the location to Meydan Yayla according to ref #1, however, we do not have any source for other location names. Cheers. CeeGee 14:13, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

They are attacking me!

On Palindrome article there's a palindrome like that: "Was it a cat I saw?" (Read it from right to left) They changed it into "Was it a car or a cat I saw?" Yes, this is also a palindrome... but it's meaningless... I corrected it and they began to attack! (You can click "View History" page of Palindrome article and you can see who are attacking. I won't write their names here.) / The problem is they are attacking! They even don't care about this simple palindrome. They even don't care about Palindrome article. Did you understand? Cyprus

Hi Nedim, I'm not too entirely sure at the moment; was Cyprus considered an European territory in the Ottoman era, and does the Ottoman-related historiography regard it as such? I think it doesn't, am I right? I'm wondering this, because Marcocapelle has taken the courtesy to do some more in depth categorization, but I believe that he made a small error by adding the "History of the Ottoman Empire in Europe" categories to "Ottoman Georgia", "Cyprus and Ottoman Cyprus. Thoughts? All the best - LouisAragon (talk) 03:40, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

Ottomans used the names Anadolu (Anatolia) and Rumeli (Thrace) . They didn't use the names of the continents. I don't think they ever considered Cyprus as a part of Europe. (However administratively, Cyprus was a part of Eyalet of the Archipelago which was a naval eyalet). Maybe in cat-usage the current classification is used. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 07:16, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, I should have been more precise. I meant the contemporary sources about Ottoman historiography. I'm not entirely sure what Marcocapelle's intentions were with the categorization. I'll wait for his opinion about it as well. Thanks anyways so far - LouisAragon (talk) 16:15, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
  • I'm fine if you'd remove the European parent if that would be too anachronistic. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:17, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
Alrightttt. I'll leave it then as it currently is, for the sake of coherence. - LouisAragon (talk) 18:48, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

Some articles that may be of interest

Hi Nedim

I noticed that your a very big contributor to Turkey related articles and recently i edited two articles on Turkey regarding relations with Albania and Kosovo. Could you have a look at them (Albania–Turkey relations & Kosovo–Turkey relations) and give some commentary about improvements. Any advice or edits are much appreciated. NOT an occupation!

There's an article like that: Turkish occupation of North Syria On talk page of that article, I wrote that it's not an occupation. Please give your support. Böri (talk) 08:16, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Thank you. / but you said (but you didn't sign your name, so I didn't understand that you wrote it)the name should be: Free Syrian Army offensive in North Syria / now the title is: Free Syrian Army offensive in Syria (North was NOT written!) /It should be North or Northern? Böri (talk) 09:34, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
I think the adjective "north" is not necessary. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 11:03, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

March 2017

Information icon Please do not move a page to a title that is harder to follow, or move it unilaterally against naming conventions or consensus, as you did to Turkish occupation of northern Syria. This includes making page moves while a discussion remains under way. We have some guidelines to help with deciding what title is best for a subject. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Thank you. Editor abcdef (talk) 11:15, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Well I didn't know that there was a discussion. (The only tag was about merging) Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 11:18, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
You should not use the word "OCCUPATION"... This is Anti-Turkism Böri (talk) 11:39, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
That's not a valid reason for an unilateral and controversial move. Regardless of it being anti-Turkish or whatever you will need to request a move at the article's talk page. Similarly the article Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon is at so and not at "South Lebanon Army offensive in Lebanon". Editor abcdef (talk) 02:12, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
It's not the same! Böri (talk) 07:04, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Sini (Turkish dining)

Thanks for adding Sini (Turkish dining) to the large project about Turkey. I started the article because someone posted the picture and said it needed an accompanying article. I did some research and Skyped with a friend who has lived in Turkey and whose wife is Turkish. He gave me some background on the tray and gave me some words. I think the article is a pretty good one, considering my extreme lack of knowledge about the subject matter. I would be grateful to anyone who could improve the article. My friend gave me the Turkish words in the article and in the caption to the photo. I got the Turkish spelling of Yogurt from that article. For the rest of the Turkish words, I am ignorant of the Turkish spelling and would love to have someone 'fix' them. Lou Sander (talk) 22:26, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

Beymelek Wildlife Reserve

Hi Nedim Ardoğa! I came across your newest article "Beymelek Wildlife Reserve". I checked out the name "Beymelek Kuş Cenneti", and found nothing. The sources say about "Beymelek Dalyanı" and "Beymelek Lagünü", which can be translated as "Beymelek Fishery" and "Beymelek Lagoon". A reference for "wildlife reserve" is nowhere mentioned. Would you please clarify the matter. Thank you. CeeGee 04:55, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the warning. The best Turkish title could be Doğal Yaşam Alanı which is quite out of every day usage. That's why I used Kuş Cenneti. Well please feel free to move the title. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 07:44, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Tarsus Çanakkale Park Museum

Hi Nedim Ardoğa! I had copyedited the article for improvement purposes. I see that you have reverted my edits, and so the improvements were gone forever. I am not able to understand the raason. One extra point I wanna add: Commonly, ships are mentioned feminine. Cheers. CeeGee 18:51, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

I agree with your comment on the ship gender. That was a mistake and I'm gonna fix it. Most of your edits are there except that the ship was not a replica. (Actually I heard that there is a replica of Nusrat. But it is I believe in Çanakkale and not in Tarsus.) Cheers. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 19:00, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
  • In the beginning I mixed up that ship in Tarsus with the one in Çanakkale, and edited the article as the ship is a replica. However, soon I discovered that it isn't. So, I reveerted my edits about replica. Although my latest version was correct, All my edits were reverted. CeeGee 20:00, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
Yes, but I used the reference. As you can see it reads width. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 18:25, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
  • It is anyway not correct with the ship name convention and the beam. CeeGee 04:07, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Dear Nedim Ardoğa! I guess I owe you an explanation for posting notes on your talk page rather than on the talk page of an article. It is our main interest to improve WP Turkey, and you do really a great job for this. However, sometimes things happen I can not understand and are not right. For example: the article "Tarsus Çanakkale Park Museum" created by you. As I noticed some discrepancies with WP conventions, I copyedited it. However, you have completely reverted it and so my good edits, which means that you own the article. As you know this not acceptable. You have corrected some of the discrepancies after my note in your talk page. However, the other ones were ignored by you. I mean that as you reverted my edits you are responsible to correct them according to the WP conventions I added. You cannot expect the errors will be corrected by others when you have reverted them before. Your such behavior occurred also a few times in the past. I find this is not fair. You have to correct an error if you cause it. Cheers. CeeGee 08:12, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Dear CeeGee, you and I are among the few contributors of the Project Turkey right ? We can collaborate. But somehow you're not so collaborative. For instance you move the titles without consulting me and in one case you have deleted the whole article. I've never done such things. (I only add links, images etc) Still you accuse me . How come ? As for Çanakkale Park, you may be partially right. That was because of the word replica.I had the original text in the PC and instead of seraching for replica word by word, I copied the original text. Then I searched the history and readded some of your edits. If I have skipped some of edits of course you can reedit them. Cheers. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 13:23, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
  • I understand that you decided to revert my edits as you have seen the word "replica". In the meantime, I had corrected the article by removing the word "replica". Anyway, the problem is you expect that others should do the work for you when something was put in wrong condition by you after it had been corrected before. On the other hand, yes I changed some titles. Those are listed on their official websites (e.g. "Adalar Museum" → "Museum of the Princes' Islands", etc.). It is only to be correct in every way. These have absolutely nothing to do with you. CeeGee 14:02, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Lake Akyayan

Hello Nedim Ardoğa! I guess there is a confusion with the article Lake Akyayan. I am not sure whether the article is about the Lake Akyayan as titled or about the "Lake Akyatan" as indicated by the coords. Then, both lakes are close to each other. The article titled "Lake Akyayan" says "Akyatan" in the beginning of the second paragraph. It needs a clarification and correction if needed. Thanks. CeeGee 07:37, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks I just fixed it. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 18:18, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Please note that ref #1 is an untrusted page. Ref #3 is about the Lake Akyatan. The coords of the article show Lake Akyatan not Lake Akyayan. CeeGee 04:13, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
Yes, 1st reference is not a https source so I removed it. But there is no problem with the 3rd (now 2nd.). Please read the 3rd paragraph of the reference which compares Ayyayan with the Akyatan. The trouble is that the names of two neighbor lakes are very similar and they are sometimes confused. I check them in Geography Atlas. Akyatan is the lake to the west of Karataş and Akyayan is the name of the lake to the east of Karataş. The coordinates are OK. This article refers to Akyayan. (There are some other names of this lake. But I want to follow the convention in the list of lakes of Turkey created in 2007. So I used this rather awkward name.) Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 06:50, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
  • The corrds are definitely not correct. They show the "Lake Akyatan". However, the article is about the "Lake Akyayan". Please recheck CeeGee 14:03, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
Akyatan is the bigger of the two at 36°37′N 35°16′E / 36.617°N 35.267°E / 36.617; 35.267. Akyayan is smaller and to the east at 36°36′N 35°31′E / 36.600°N 35.517°E / 36.600; 35.517. (By the way it is best to carry such discussions in the article talk pages rather than the personal talk pages) Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 14:26, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

Museums in Samsun dedicated to Atatürk

Hi Nedim Ardoğa! Shortly, I realized that the article ""Samsun Atatürk Museum" (SAM) you had created incorporates errors due to confusion with the "Samsun Gazi Museum" (SGM) as I can check with the official website of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which owns the museums. So, I edited the SAM verbatim according to the source given after moving it to SGM. I also copyedited SAM in the same way. Now, I see that you have reverted my edits. Please note that your version at SGM contains information, which is not supported by the reference included, e.g. hotel etc. I guess you have a reliable source for those. Please add it to the references. Please note that what I did was not against your efforts but to maintain solid Turkey-related articles. Cheers. CeeGee 08:09, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

Fails WP:NSONGS

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. The articles done may also count towards the ongoing challenge. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Help would also be appreciated in drawing up the lists of missing articles. If you think of any missing articles please add them to the sub lists by continent at Missing articles. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:29, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Recently a important page move was done some time back on the Circassian Genocide article and i noticed recently that the Turkish wikipedia version of the article bore the title Çerkes Sürgünü [3] (Circassian migration) instead of Çerkes Soykırımı (Circassian Genocide). As my Turkish is limited (so i have only made few edits in Turkish wikipedia) it has meant that i cannot do page moves. Your a busy guy, so if time permits and if its possible on your part could you move the page to Çerkes Soykırımı. Another page also in need of a move is Dolgaş [4] to its proper Turkish spelling of Dılgaş. If you have any queries contact me on my talkpage or alternatively email me, whatever suits you. Best.Resnjari (talk) 03:23, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

In Turkish version both titles are given in the lede:Çerkes Soykırımı, (Doğu Çerkesçesi Адыгэм я лъэпкъгъэкIуэд) Çerkes Sürgünü ya da Çerkes Muhacirliği. Cheers Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 08:08, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Deletion Alert

Three articles Eren Bülbül, TAMEK, Valley of the Wolves: Homeland, that are part of the Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Turkey) have been nominated for deletion. We believe that there is a good case to be made for keeping these articles. If/when you have time, you may decide to voice your opinion on the matter as a veteran member of the challange. Thanks!--ErenUygur (talk) 13:46, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

Talk:Leman Altınçekiç

Hi! May I kindly ask you why you've removed the tag "mage requested". Don't we need any image of her at all? Thanks. CeeGee 10:05, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

OK please add it if you like. But in the history of the talk you can see it was corrupted, that's why I removed it. Cheers Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 10:26, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Defaultsort

Hi! I see that you often omit the Template:DEFAULTSORT, which is used to modify the sequence of pages shown on category pages. I noticed that in WP:tr this is not used especially in biographies because there the preference of given names is desired. However, in WP.en, the preference of surnames is common use. Moreover, it can help to sort titles with modified letters in Turkish alphabet such as Ç, Ş, Ğ, I, İ, Ö, Ü by using their Latin originals C, S, I, O, U. This was a reminder, not a lecture. Thanks for your attention. CeeGee 09:48, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

Kerman Seljuk state

Do you now If they become indipendent state Brazil38 (talk) 18:13, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

In Medieval Age, it's difficult to define fully independent. But in any case Kerman Seljuk state lived longer than the Great Seljuks. So at least for the post Great Seljuks era, they were fully independent. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 19:43, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

Percentage bar

Hi again! Thank you for your recent edits that help to expand articles about Turkey. I would like to kindly remind you to update the percentage bar when you post a new entry on Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Turkey). All the best. (Central Data Bank (talk) 13:21, 25 November 2017 (UTC))

Yes but the percentage bar is problematic. There is a clan in WP which either deletes or transfers the articles by unpermissible copy and paste method. (Presently I'm struggling to keep Kidnapping of Şehzade Halil) Anyway that clan has deleted many articles in WPTR1000 list. So the percentage bar no more shows the correct percentage. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 14:21, 25 November 2017 (UTC)
Oh wow, I did not know of this. Is there anything I can do to help? Which pages have been affected by this? (Central Data Bank (talk) 19:11, 28 November 2017 (UTC))
There were many. Whenever I am notified I always contribute to the dicussion and sometimes I succeed. In this case without warning about 25 entries in list were deleted. Some of these were created by a blocked editor. I removed them from the list. But there are still some. You can see them in the list as red links. So the counter is mow meaningless. Fatma Esra Nayman

I saw your reversion of my edit on this page, and have to disagree. I'm on the Wikpedia Typo Team and search for various typos. After I saw the double 'the' on the page and removed it, I then noticed the CHP. It is indeed jargon - the party may be known as CHP in Turkey, but Wikipedia is an encyclopedia for a general readership, the vast majority of whom live outside Turkey and do not know what those letters stand for or mean. The abbreviation is not used as a space saver - it appears only once, and therefore there is no reason to use it at all. Just because an abbreviation exists is not a reason to use it. For example, the Anatolian Agency - which I have changed to Anadolu Agency in another set of edits - can be abbreviated AA but the Nayman page correctly does not include that abbreviation because there's no reason to. And I'm sorry, but even after reading the Nayman page, there is still no way to know what CHP stands for. The abbreviation doesn't add anything to the article. Please reconsider.

Ira

Ira Leviton (talk) 18:25, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

CHP is the abbreviation. It is used in many English publications. Although the name of the party is translated there is no need to translate the abbriviation as well. But in this case there is no frequent refrence to CHP and you be right in removing the abbreviation . Cheers. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 04:27, 6 December 2017 (UTC)
