Adopt[edit]

I've offered to adopt you, tell me whether or not you accept here, thanks,Asics talk Editor review! 23:26, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations[edit]

I have adopted you! The best way to contact an editor is by leaving messages on their Talk Page (I actually check here more than I check my email). Try to always edit constructively, and be nice to other users. Are there any questions that you would like to ask? Asics talk Editor review! 09:53, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Answers to your questions[edit]

  • For the first part, to become a respected member of the community, try perhaps joining some Wikiprojects, these are just groups of people who work together in order to ensure the articles improve. Each group has its own aims. Judging on some of your edits you may like to join WP:FIX (a project that fixes common errors), or [[WP:.]] (a project that corrects punctuation). These are just a few suggestions, but there are hundreds more! Perhaps when you have some time have a search through and see which ones take your fancy! Also adding cited material helps you to become a respected wikipedian. Uncited material can and probably will be removed. Reporting vandals when necessary is also important, see here. Try and also write edit summaries (in the box just above where you click "save page" after editing, as this helps others see at a glance what you might have changed. The minor edit box needs ticking when it is just a spelling, grammatical or formatting change i.e. no change to the actual information.
  • I don't bother much with colours and that, but for making your userpage look good, see here (Font colours are also mentioned in the Formatting Text section). A userpage would look good with a few userboxes and a little bit of information about yourself. Maybe put them in columns:

{{col-start}} {{col-1-of-2}} A {{col-2-of-2}} B {{col-end}}
This would look like:

  • There are a lot of templates already made, I have only made a few, and have mostly copied existing ones and altered necessary bits. You may wish to do this, so here are a few examples if you want to alter them! Template:Football, Template:Wpt, Template:Trivium.

They are the three main styles of templates that are used. But if you want to make your own, see here.
I hope this helps, it takes time to get used to wikipedia, so just take it steady at first, look at other peoples edits, join in with some wikiprojects and ask me anything you want, whenever you want! Asics talk Editor review! 12:34, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting Vandalism[edit]

I've looked at some of your edits, and you don't seem to be leaving vandals messages/ reporting them... Here is a basic guide:
When reverting vandalism try to put a vandalism template on the user/Ip's talk page. The basic templates are: Warning templates
PageName is optional

  • {{subst:uw-vandalism1|PageName}} ~~~~ (unintentional vandalism/test)
  • {{subst:uw-delete1|PageName}} ~~~~ (unintentional removal of content)
  • {{subst:uw-vandalism2|PageName}} ~~~~ (suitable for nonsense)
  • {{subst:uw-delete2|PageName}} ~~~~ (variant for blankings)
  • {{subst:uw-vandalism3|PageName}} ~~~~ (please stop)
  • {{subst:uw-delete3|PageName}} ~~~~ (please stop blanking)
  • {{subst:uw-vandalism4|PageName}} ~~~~ (last warning)
  • {{subst:uw-delete4|PageName}} ~~~~ (last warning for blanking)
I've just copied these out of wp:vand, so you can go there for more info. But basically, if its the editors first offense then one of first two. And if its second then usually one of second two etc. Obviously if its malicious vandalism and offensive to people a higher warning may be given sooner. If a user has been given the top level warning in the past few days (I'd stick with no more than 5, but some people think less, some more) Then they need reporting to WP:AIV, and you can put on their talk page, a template that is not optional, but I use it: {{Subst:User:Asics/Reported|sig=~~~~}}. This isn't an official template, but I believe it is useful, so I am in the process of seeing if it (or something similar) could be accepted as an official template. Any questions about this or anything else, you know where to contact me! :-) Asics talk Editor review! 18:35, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ignore the part about my personal template, as I have decided after discussion at the wp:hd it isn't necessary, and may infact just cause more trouble! Asics talk Editor review! 21:18, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ask me ANYTHING[edit]

However silly or trivial you think your question is, just ask me! I will answer every question the best I can. Asics talk Editor review! 20:46, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox[edit]

Good start! Colours work great! you could put in the internal link for Marlon Brando, by putting [[Marlon Brando]] instead of just Marlon Brando. I'm not sure if the image is allowed to be used there under "Fair Use" rules. I'll have a word with the user I go to about copyrght details to check and will get back to you as soon as I have got a reply. Asics talk Editor review! 15:18, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you took the photo, then I believe you can use it, as long as you release it under GFDL (not sure what it stands for, just know to select that when uploading my pictures or pictures that I know have been released). Fair-use, as far as I am aware is not supposed to be used for that. I've asked the other editor what copyright on images is allowed to be used in userboxes. Asics talk Editor review! 15:24, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As I thought, it is not allowed to be used. However, you can check here to see if any of these style suit the type of userbox it is. Perhaps something like a gun, such as that used for {{User:Mtmelendez/Userboxes/Godfather Part II}}

Often film related userboxes are left with the letters of the film i.e. GF for god father or MB or Marlon Brando. I will change it to MB for now, but you are free to change it however you want after Asics talk Editor review! 15:51, 14 April 2007 (UTC) p.s. the user I contacted said this "No, it is a fair use image. Put simply (with very, very very few exceptions) there should be no fair use images outside of the userspace. That includes the Wikipedia space, the User space, the template space, even the portal space, along with the less commonly breached category space, the various talk spaces and the others (MediaWiki and that). Anyways, a user box is purely decoration, and is to be used only in the user space, so no. I admit, finding an image for a copyrighted film is extremely difficult, so words, numbers or generic pictures are often used. Of course, the copyright has expired on some films, or images are in the public domain for other reasons. If you haven't already, take a look at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Media/Film to see how other film userboxes have been made. J Milburn 15:35, 14 April 2007 (UTC)" so that might be of some use to you.[reply]

You can find your userboxes under User:NATO.Caliber/Userboxes... It will be easier to edit from here, and any alterations that you do here, will be automatically transferred to your main User page. It's main function is to stop your main userpage being messy. Hope this helps. Asics talk Editor review! 16:02, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your interests[edit]

What are your interests (i.e. favourite genre of music)? And what subjects would you say you are particularly knowledgeable on?
If you could give me answers to these two questions, I will add you to relevant wikiprojects, where there are always lists of articles that need updating etc. Deletion debates and other such things to participate in. Just an extra note, try every time you edit something to put an edit summary in, as it helps other editors greaty when checking for vandalism etc. Asics talk Editor review! 18:32, 14 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm actually a big metal fan... although it's mainly deathcore and metalcore (I know, a lot of people say this isn't proper metal!).
    • For your interest in your country of origin, there is Wikiprojects for most countries... If your country of origin is were you are now (or so your user page says), then you may find Wikipedia:WikiProject Sweden interesting. If not, select the continent you are from on here and choose the appropriate country (there's wikiprojects for most, I believe).
    • Interest in Metal is Wikipedia:WikiProject Metal, there are lots of peope adding articles to help be improved, or made, so this is good if you are interested in Metal. Also, there are a few bands listed here that you may like, therefore may want to join their wikiprojects.
    • I don't think there is any project for exercising and the like. But there are many pages that are useful, and questions about excercising (as long as they aren't something you should ask your doctor or lawyer about) can be asked at the reference desk (that section is just for miscellaneous articles, but there is others.
    • Teaching nettiquette was the main responsibility of esperanza, but this has now closed down. So there is no real "nettiquette" projects. However this has the links to th main behavioural ideas on wikipedia, so could help you, if you wanted to read through them.
    • Giving vandalism messages and reporting to administrators is the best way to stop idiots, as long as the messages etc. are justified!
The wikiprojects are usually just ways of getting involved with other like-minded wikipedians and checking relevant pages for errors, vandalism, and improving them. Each have different aims, so it's best to see what they are. If you are interested in any of them, add your name to the members or participants list, and put the userbox on your page. Any trouble with this, or anything else, leave me as message! Asics talk Editor review! 09:32, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to Questions[edit]

Sorry it has taken a while to reply... I am busy studying for exams so haven't been on the computer.
If a user has had all the appropraite warnings, they can be reported through WP:AIV - the instructions are on there and are very simple! The user needs to have had all 4 levels of warning (usually) which are found on WP:VAND and have had the final (level 4) warning within the past few days. Try to be civil when speaking to vandals, try not to use abusive language, although I know they do anger you sometimes!
I wouldn't suggest "graduating" just yet, as you haven't really done many edits, so there is still a lot to learn. However, I believe all that you need to do is tell me that you want to graduate!
I'll try and check back here at least once a week, so please try to be patient whilst waiting for me to reply! Thanks, Asics talk Editor review! 15:52, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#User:Dynamization. Regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 13:17, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Personally I've got nothing against the guy particularly if he blocks out real vandalism but failure to do so correctly or indeed offer a response at the ANI or admin request is likely to get him revoked. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:11, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rock music WikiProject[edit]

I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Rock music WikiProject. There's alot of Rock-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help us get this project off the ground and a few Rock music pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks! --Be Black Hole Sun (talk) 09:26, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
