Roger Webster vandalism[edit]

Right, this is quite a problem, but not something that I personally have dealt with. You might want to request oversite, you can do that here, and this is also something that should probably be brought up on the administrators noticeboard. Currently, someone requesting deletion of an article on themselves are ignored, and we do not delete. Also, I really haven't the time to look into this at the moment, as my Internet connection is down. I am currently typing from school. I reccomend you bring it up on the administrators noticeboard, and, for any personal information, request oversight soon. Sorry I can't be any more help, I generally steer away from bigger issues like this, or just ask someone on the IRC channel to deal with it. J Milburn 13:07, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I have looked into the matter a little, and I think it would be a terrible shame to lose the article from Wikipedia. I see the bad edit has been removed, and I guess oversight would not really be needed, but if the edit in question does contain sensitive information, (I didn't look) then oversight could be worthwhile. I see Alison is helping you out- she is a fantastic admin, there shouldn't be any problem. Protection, blocking and keeping a close eye on the matter should be fine. If Roger still wants the article deleted, that is a real shame, but you can asure him that Wikipedia is doing what it can about the subject. Again, apologies for not replying sooner, I have only just managed to get back online at home after a few days of resorting to reading and watching bad TV! J Milburn 16:19, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:PPP.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:PPP.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.

This also applies to:

Note that these images were all removed from Roger Webster as their use in a "list of..." type arrangement was against our policies as described at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria items 3(a) and (8). If you have any questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. --Durin 20:44, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Video copyright question[edit]

Taking screenshots from music videos is allowed, if used very sparingly. Music videos are copyrighted to the band, or, more likely, the record company. The screenshots are acceptable for different uses, and I am not quite sure what you mean by 'demonstrating a style of dancing'. Be careful with YouTube- people often upload things that they do not own the copyright to, but it is safe to assume, unless someone explicitly says otherwise, or it is extremely old, that everything on there is copyrighted. Could you give me the specific example you wish to use? The video, the image you want to capture, and the use you intend for it, so I can judge it a little better? J Milburn 11:58, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would say not, sorry. Reasonably, free photos or videos could be found, or better free diagrams could be drawn. Perhaps if you talked in-depth about the use of the dancing in those particular videos, then it would be reasonable, but that would probably be better done on the page for the song anyway, and I doubt there would be many sources available. Perhaps your best bet would be to find someone who is into hardcore dancing, and video them, or just take some photos. J Milburn 12:39, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Getting Trivium to GA[edit]

I think everything we need is already in the article, apart from a few references. If you are willing to have a hack at it, I think we could get it up to around a good article standard tonight. Are you up for that? It just requires decent citations, citations to be properly filled out, a vigorous copy-edit, and perhaps some fiddling with images. I don't want to make a start on it unless I know you are working on it with me- I don't know the first thing about the band, and you know where to find the references. J Milburn 16:34, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll start tagging with {{fact}} and copyediting the writing, so you can see what needs to be cited. I'll also make some notes on the talk page about things that can be improved. J Milburn 16:57, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Footnotes[edit]

Just a quick note- citation tags go after puntuation. It should look like this- The sky is blue.[1] and not like this- The sky is blue[2].

Try and stick to that, if you can! J Milburn 20:37, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unusual Adoption Request[edit]

Hi! Im an English teacher in Toluca Mexico (west of Mexico City). My Advanced B classes will be contributing to Wikipedia as the focus of their English course for Fall 2007. I am looking for people who would like to mentor my students (who will be working in groups) as they do the following assignments: Edit and article (adding a citation), writing a stub with a citation, translating an English language article for Spanish Wikipedia and for the final project, writing a full article for English Wiki (they can expand on the stub mentioned previously). What I would like to do is put a list of "mentors/adopters" on my talk page as a kind of short cut for my students, who have limited time to get things done. The semester begings Aug 6, but the real Wikipedia work wont begin until the beginning of Sept. If you would like to add your name to my list, please go to my talk page and add it there, perhaps with a short introduction, if you like.

Thank you!

request to be adopted[edit]

I am requesting to be adopted so I can learn how to handle difficult editing situations more effectively. One of the articles I edit -- Morgellons -- has a lot of POV-pushing going on and I need help understanding how to make the article more NPOV without getting sidetracked into edit wars and arguments. I would like to respond more effectively with other editors who have an agenda that is not neutral. Also, I've been advised to try a WP:RFC or possibly have the article deleted entirely and need to learn how to do that. I hope to find an adopter who can help me learn how to be more effective as a Wikipedia editor especially in challenging situations. Thank you! Pez1103 10:55, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Are you about?[edit]

I've just been away for a couple of weeks, and someone has tagged the Trivium Wikiproject as inactive, not to mention there were no big ups to the main article- I thought it may be a GA by the time I got back. I also see you have had very few recent edits- are you taking some time off Wikipedia? J Milburn 22:35, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MotorStorm[edit]

I made a new rule that to each article in the scaled article section of the playstation project will have a group leader, but someone can only be the group leader to one article. That is why I took PlayStation 3 off the list, but left MotorStorm. Since you want to help please add your name to the group list. Playstationdude 19:50, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Ariselogo.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 14:52, 8 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. I'm back[edit]

Mr. Asics,

I have been around Wikipedia, but I haven't bothered to log into my account. I have reverted vandalism and wikified articles. Nothing significant, though. I did, however, today make a rather significant contribution to Japanese dragon. I am even proud of it myself. I will, from now on, log on to Wikipedia whenever I feel like contributing.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!

Notice

The file File:Ruth Chikasa.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:00, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Africa06.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Africa06.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sreejith K (talk) 22:42, 18 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
