Welcome + discussion of your recent contributions[edit]

Hi Mywifileftme, welcome to Wikipedia. We at Wikiproject Ice Hockey noticed your recent additions to hockey-related articles.

You can see the discussion here. As you can see in my and others' comments, while your contributions are sourced (which is very important), we have some concerns about their adherence to other Wikipedia guidelines. I have edited each of your additions to better conform with Wikipedia's guidelines on neutrality and writing about living people. You can see the differences ("diffs") linked in my most recent comment.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. Best, Wracking talk! 21:26, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mywifileftme, thanks for your email. My apologies for my late response. I hope the level of detail here makes up for it.
For your reference, I (like most wiki editors) conduct almost all communication on-platform through talk pages. Feel free to respond to me in this thread or at my talk page.
I'm going to start with sourcing, a reason for which some of your edits have been reverted.
These types of sources should not be used:
  • User-generated content – this includes social media posts (Reddit, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) and personal blogs (there are few exceptions to this)
  • Trial transcripts or court records – unless you have a reliable secondary source and the records are only being used for augmenting that source's information
If you're not sure if a source is reliable, you can try searching WP:RSP or asking the Hockey Wikiproject (if it's hockey specific). I encourage you to reach out to the community at WT:HOCKEY if you ever have any questions or concerns. As I hope you can see by the discussion of your edits, hockey editors are committed to ensuring that articles present information in an accurate and neutral manner, and this does not exclude controversial events or topics.
Recommended reading: Here are some Wikipedia policies/guidelines that can guide your editing and explain why you've been reverted in the past.
  • WP:Biographies of living persons (BLP) – Read the first three sections (Writing style, Reliable sources, and Presumption in favor of privacy)
  • WP:Neutral point of view (NPOV) – this a bit dense, but it is one of the most important guidelines for Wikipedia. For a more accessible format, try this quiz
  • If you want to read more, I recommend you start with WP:V and WP:RS, which are also very important, especially for BLPs.
Basically, content that pertains to living people is held to a higher standard than other content on Wikipedia. Accurate sourcing and presentation is especially important. The gist is: Unsourced or poorly sourced content about living people, especially that which is related to a crime or controversy, will almost always be reverted.
(Also, related to the Mike Komisarek article. Yes, I would say adding attribution to TMZ as you did is needed, but I would also say the article needs to go a step further and "wrap up" the story. In this case, Komisarek was never charged with any crime and that was reported by multiple reliable sources.)
Of course, reach out with any questions. Best, Wracking talk! 03:14, 14 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for contributing to the article Jake Virtanen. However, please do not use unreliable sources such as blogs, your own website, websites and publications with a poor reputation for checking the facts or with no editorial oversight, expressing views that are widely acknowledged as extremist, that are promotional in nature, or that rely heavily on rumors and personal opinions, as one of Wikipedia's core policies is that contributions must be verifiable through reliable sources, preferably using inline citations. If you require further assistance, please look at Help:Menu/Editing Wikipedia, or ask at the Teahouse. Per WP:RSP, Reddit is specifically a generally unreliable source as it is mostly user-generated content. The Kip 08:15, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
