Hailsham

I have substantially re-written the current article on Hailsham . Could someone take a look and tell me what you think? Muchclag 13:40, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

In addition to this, I wish to write an article on Hailsham Railway Station, which closed in 1968. Is there a definitive 'look' which closed station articles should have about them? (Ie Route Map, etc? - Cheers. Muchclag 20:25, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Generally, your material looks good. The biggest problem I see is with your references. If you are going to use inline notes (which I'm glad to see you doing) you might use the citation templates, {{cite web}} and {{cite news}} . These will include all the information automatically and place them in your references section. It takes a bit to get used to them and if you have any problems, let me know. As for the closed station, I'm not sure I can give you a perfect answer. Look around at other similar articles or find the Wikiproject for railroads. I'm sure you could find a chap there to help. WikiProject UK Railways

Hi. Love the username! Have you come across Wikipedia:WikiProject UK Railways yet? There are plenty of discussions there about closed stations, and more, and you'll find plenty help.

Regarding Hailsham railway station... You may be interested in List of closed railway stations in Britain: H-J and List of closed railway lines in Great Britain. May I strongly recommend that you probably don't need to create an article for that station, unless there was an awful lot that happened there. I would suggest that creation of an article about the line in question (the Cuckoo Line? I couldn't locate it), with subsections for each station, is the most appropriate way to go. (If the line left the Hastings Line just south of Tunbridge Wells, then the Hastings Line route map includes a likely-looking unmarked junction which would benefit from a description!) Redirects may then be created for each closed station, which avoids repeating all the information about the closed railway line on every page.

Incidentally, when you refer to railway stations in articles it is worth considering whether you want to link to the placename article or the railway station article. Since the station should provide a link to the place, it may be a quicker solution for navigation if the station article is the initial link.

I've read them, and I think that 99.9% of Wikipedians won't have a clue what you're talking about when you mention 'Brush rather than Maybach thrash', but since I'm talking to you rather than about the article, I thought I'd respond here.

Now, the fundamental problem with 'Dreadful' as an article is that it is effectively a dictionary definition, albeit an expanded one, about an adjective. That is why there was the earlier suggestion to 'Transwiki' (ie move) it to Wiktionary. If you can provide appropriate written examples of its usage then you might stand a chance adding it there (I successfully saved 'ferroequinology' there earlier this year! - with the help of some others...).

As I implied earlier, I cannot really find any justification for keeping Dreadfull at WP. However, I think there is a definite place for jargon definitions at Train Spotting World, so I've copied the content over there (see link). Feel free to add your other terms (such as 'clag') over there, where the rules are rather more relaxed (although it is rather quiet at present!!) I have also taken the liberty of copying the picture across.

Class 47 page

Hi - thanks for adding the picture of 47714 to the article. Only thing is, that particular photo doesn't actually show the Anglia Railways livery very well. Have you got a more side-on view of the loco that would be better? (I haven't - as you might have noticed from the photos I've added, I pretty much gave up bashing in 1989!). Mhh, I'd say to start with it needs a lot of references adding which are reliable (try Google, some of their search results on subjects are reliable) and the sections need some cleanup and copyediting, for example the merging of one sentence 'paragraphs' in to the larger paragraphs. Greetings. I was looking for a project to work on after getting Eastbourne to GA status. I lived in Hailsham for a couple of years too, so lets do it! You may have noticed I have had a little edit already. The main problem I found was the title in the citations, these need to match the actual title of the work. I do not know who created them originally, but it is something that needs checking. Have you seen Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about settlements? Hi, thanks - I would just add the number of games played in total, and divide that number by the total attendance to produce an average. According to https://www.nonleaguematters.co.uk/divisions/38/ the highest attendance for a Division One game this season is 168, so the average currently showing on the article of 1,039 is clearly incorrect. Paywall articles as sources

Reading the Daily Telegraph this morning, noticed an obituary for Henry Haller . The online version is behind a paywall - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2020/11/12/henry-haller-unflappable-white-house-chef-cooked-five-presidents/ and the only other source I could find is also behind a paywall (I think!) https://www.nzz.ch/schweiz/henry-haller-wie-ein-schweizer-zum-legendaeren-chefkoch-des-weissen-hauses-wurde-ld.1586009?reduced=true . Where do we stand with adding these as citations? As you can see I usually edit long dead people, so wasn't sure if I/we could use these as the only (so far) sources for someone recently deceased?
