Introduction to contentious topics[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Horn of Africa (defined as including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and adjoining areas if involved in related disputes), a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Request reason:

I'd like my page block removed soon-ish over at 2023 Las Anod conflict. This is to cover the outstanding NPOV edit request in Special:Permalink/1146766950 § 2023 Las Anod conflict. On my side: :I've been trying to discuss sourcing page edits and follow policy in a neutral way per WP:NPOV WP:VERIFY WP:DUE and WP:TONE. The page itself is politically sensitive and highly contentious so needs better sourcing.. There is also false information on the page per the article talk, so waiting out the ban is not proportionate. — MathAfrique (talk) 10:27, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You are blocked for violating WP:EW but don't mention that in your unblock request. Yamla (talk) 10:32, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I did a 2nd revert on a page that got me blocked for editwarring. Sorry & this won't happen again. If denied I'll sort out page issues next week. Time taken to unblock is justified by § WP:CONDUNBLOCK request. MathAfrique (talk) 11:06, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You can (and are) address issues with the article right now, on the talk page. I see no reason here to lift the partial block. 331dot (talk) 15:46, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2023 Las Anod Belligerents[edit]

I'm, cqHydra and recently made a update to the Las Anod Wikipedia page and the primary goal of this was to add new information as Las Anod (2023) conflict is a ongoing event. After publishing my changes you decided to revert all my progress, and I'd like to discuss why?

One change I made was adding Somalia and Puntland as Belligerents, this was mainly because Puntland Security Forces and Somalian Danab Brigade was found fighting in Las Anod with credible sources. This is publicly known and I'd like to republish my edit but prior to that I decided to message you.

I'd also like to mention the dubious addition of "other" Somali Militias participating in the Las Anod conflict, this is because currently only 2 known clan militias are fighting in Las Anod.

My last mention is the current situation of Las Anod, currently Somaliland Forces have penetrated the fortifications around Las Anod and officially made it to the city. InshAllah this issue will be resolved but if I don't get a response in 2 days I'll be pushing my changes forward.

@CqHydra: These edits were added before and were removed for being sourced from the SLMFA which is a propaganda corp for the SLNA. We have agreed in the talkpage that official admission of state-level involvement, or overwhelming WP:VERIFY news evidence, is required for the infobox.
In any case the subclan information was removed as you did.
Because of Deni's statement, the Puntland entry can go back into the belligerents section, specifically Puntland State and not Puntland Security Forces.
Because of the previous edit war, all new information needs to be cited from news agencies with a physical address & not primary sources via FB or Twitter. Hope this helps.
We cannot be sure this video footage was taken 2 days ago, thus it has no standing to go into the article. Even the Facebook videos with the militias are better sources, because the speakers are famous & identifiable as the clan representative.
Danab is not involved and still not involved. Having a couple dozen defectors in the fight does not mean Somaliland is fighting Danab.
