Please help me with...

MGHuc (talk) 16:02, 3 January 2020 (UTC) I edited the title of this page yesterday - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallica_v._Napster

The reason can be found in the Revision history page: MGHuc moved page Metallica v. Napster, Inc. to Metallica v. Napster: The article is not hotlinking on some discussion forums. I suspect this is because of the period at the end of the url. Forums are interpreting that as a period, not as part of a url. If I am wrong I will undo the changes. Hope I'm not over-stepping my authority here.

That appears to have been successful as far as I can tell. And the link was accessible from at least one forum I posted it on, where it was not before when it had the period at the end of the url.

But now, after diving more deeply into the FAQs about moving pages I'm concerned there may have been things I missed or didn't account for. I admit that I do have some difficulty navigating around the myriad of Wikipedia functions.

Anyways, I hope I didn't mess anything up and I would just like that verified or the page returned back to its previous status. I don't want to try that myself for fear of compounding problems I may have already initiated.

Help me 2

Please help me with...

I don't know how to do much of the intricate stuff on Wikipedia. I repair poor grammar, citations, and activate hot-linking when a source with a Wiki page has not been hot-linked to. I am 100% certain that my contributions, limited as they may be, are positive in nature.

I don't know how to identify or contact someone who's made immediate changes to my edits and which I don't understand, including removing sources and removal of "citation(s) needed" entries which I have added.

One of the sources was a YouTube link, which I understand can be problematic, but it was a video of an on-camera interview with the composer of the song, and it was from a credible YouTube page belonging to a Toronto radio station.

This is a little annoying, not much, but a little. Any help, clarifications, et cetera, would be appreciated. This is the Wiki page and edits can be examined here.

This is the source material for a portion of the Wiki article.

If you look at the history of the page, you'll see that all of the recent edits are attributed to you, including the ones that added and then removed the YouTube citations.

Adding citations to YouTube videos is definitely problematic and, without a timestamp to the precise point in the video where the fact can be verified, not useful as a (in this case, primary) source. I believe that if you redo the citations using a citation template that allows you to specify an at= parameter where you can put the timestamp, this video - apparently uploaded by the radio station - copyright holder - should be allowed as a reference.

There are other statements in the Painted Ladies (song) article that would benefit from better sources, while you're working on it. The only supported fact (and the reason why it can be considered notable) in the article is the chart citation - which no longer works. That makes no sense. I left it with the citations, told Ian Thomas that I did some work on his song page, and when I returned, much of it had been reverted back to where it was previously. The only addition I made that remained was the John Cepak reference.

A Wiki page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Big_(police_procedure) - contains incorrect information.

"The Mr. Big technique was developed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in British Columbia in the early 1990s."

I have firm documentation that the first time the technique was used was in either 1966 or 1967. The uncertainty on which of those two years it occurred is because I have a newspaper clipping I acquired via microfilm at the Vancouver Public Library. The article reports on a trial which took place in March of 1967, so I would assume the events occurred likely in 1966. This is not an online source. All I have is the image scanned at the library from microfilm.

How would I source something like that?

Wikipedia has articles, not "wiki pages". You can cite the newspaper clipping as long as you have enough of the appropriate information for someone else to do what you did to locate the source- publication, page number, author, publisher, date of publication, etc. 331dot (talk) 18:08, 13 September 2022 (UTC)

Please help me with... Hello. I apparently no longer have a username, although I do have a username. This is my page. My name is in red now elsewhere and Wikipedia says I do not exist. I do exist. I'm right here. I am also unable to login, although I appear to be logged in. Crikey.

I'm not a major editor, and there is a lot about Wikipedia which I do not understand. That's why I don't attempt things I don't know about. But I do provide useful work, correcting articles, providing sources and adding hotlinks. I also correct grammar. I am unaware of doing anything wrong that would cause my name to be deactivated.

Yes, you do seem to be confused.

User MGHuc has this talk page and an essentially empty sandbox page, but no actual user page, which is why would would see your username in various places as a red link.

The edit count tool shows that you have made almost 300 edits since you joined in November 2018.

I don't know what you were trying to do with the User:Sam Engleang page, but I've tagged that old mess under CSD:U5, since it is not appropriate content for a user page.

There is no page in article space named MGHuc and you should not expect to see one there unless you meet Wikipedia's notability requirements.

I have never had this issue before where I was unable to login. I just attempted to login like I always do so any edits I make could be tracked back to me should there be any issues with the work I did. I hold myself accountable.

I have no recollection of what the "User:Sam Engleang page" is or any memory of it whatsoever.

I was not logged in when I "made this entry", unless when logging in, Wikipedia, for the first time ever, tells you that you don't exist. I didn't suddenly become an idiot and forget how to login or become confused by the process.

Thank you for taking the time to address my concerns. However, I found your answer to be unhelpful and condescending in more than one area. Perhaps we can get someone in here who will be more helpful to someone who believes in Wikipedia and who is only trying to help contribute to the cause.

When you persist in statements that are self-evidently false ("I was not logged in"), you can expect a certain amount of asperity in responses. The clip from the User:Sam Engleang's user page was added by you. Wikipedia has certainly not told you that you don't exist - you are misinterpreting something. And given the level of misinterpretation going on, I am at a loss for how to help. I'm doing my best and I apologize if it came off to you as being condescending. You may want to start with basics like "What exactly did the error message say? I made it clear from the start that there is a lot that I don't understand, but I found your demeanor to be a little condescending and had a tone of superiority. No one needs to do that. I know I'm a dumb guy when it comes to this stuff. That's why I stay in my lane and stick to what I know. I wholeheartedly accept your apology, and if I came off as too reactive, which I may have, I apologize in return, and wholeheartedly. If I see my name in red and I am told my username does not exist, the last thing I am going to think is, yes, my username exists and I am logged in. I am not going to think that. I am going to think what is going on and why has my account been deleted. That explains my confusion when I said, "I apparently no longer have a username" when I was able to access my account, which was even more confusing. I tried to explain it the best I could and I guess my confusion carried over to my initial question. And if you want to be additionally helpful now you could perhaps tell me why this happened for the first time ever. Someone suggested I logged in incorrectly. No, my username and password are saved and autofill in. I still have no idea who User:Sam Engleang is and what kind of clip you are talking about. A video clip? Perhaps you could show me. If clearing your browser history solved the problem, I'm glad, but I don't have a clue as to how that would have helped.

Search this page here, in the first post with which you created his section, for Engleang. How that snippet got there, I can't imagine, but the evidence says it was posted by you.

If you are referring to this page we are on right now, the top mention of Engleang was just part of what I copied to provide as much information as possible when I was having my initial problems and subsequently asked my initial question. For some reason it was part of what I was seeing when I was having my issues. If there is anything I need to clean up there, let me know. Otherwise, I agree. Tine to put this to bed.
