Lynx Photonic Networks

I've noticed that the "Lynx Photonic Networks" page has been moved from the quick deletion to AFD state.

I've revised all the text to be in my words, and I didn't quite understand why "Lynx built its products around its patented light management technology, to provide cost-effective, [all optical] switching solutions. Since there solution is [all optical] in nature there is no need to replace it when upgrading other elements of the network such as the [XDM]'s, [Transponder]s, and [Optical Amplifiers]" said this is advertisement. This is in my mind purely informational. I've avoided using any superlatives at all.

regarding "Lynx" the company as an interest to the comunity there are in my mind several very important patents that this company created regarding the telecommunication industry. mainly there PLC solid state switch which was later "copied" by companies like JDSU. as well as there later (not yet entered into the site) development of optical modulation of the PLC splitter and using a simple PLC splitter as both configurable splitter and at the same time a low rate communication module.

Look at a patent from the US patent office developed by Ciena (the ~4 largest telecommunication supplier equipment in the world): US Patent - 6,445,843 it shows an Optical switching system with power balancing patent the is partly based on Lynx 8x8 system.

and Lynx patent: Optical switching system with power balancing US Patent - 6,760,504 indicating what I've mentioned in the article regarding an all optical solution.

also from "Northrop Grumman Corporation" US Patent 7,403,712 - Matrix time division multiplex (MTDM) interrogation in there patent see comment regarding Lynx "Optical matrix switches of the electro-optic type have been demonstrated by many researchers, and at least one is commercially available from Lynx Photonic Networks, Inc" See also:

So there are Ciena & Northrop Grumman Corporation stating in there US patent specifically Lynx photonic network as the company which has a commercially proven switches (not just lab samples).

I think that the patents of Lynx above and the fact the other major companies like Ciena relay in there patents (no less) on the existence of Lynx as a company which has commercial products is a real indication of interest for users and a should meet the notability.

Also if you look at the patents you'll notice most WSS, ROADM's, TOADM's uses some type or modification of one of Lynx patents. (Just like Ciena did) which should also be an indication.

Another point is the reference issue, what is regarded as a reliable reference?

Need access to text of article you deleted...

I need access to the text for Ken Marcus, so that I may resubmit the article in Wikipedia's standards.

Earlier today you declared that the article was a copyright violation with "nothing salvageable"; however, I did put in quite a bit of original research, including adding citations and sections. The quicker I can get hold of the post-deletion article, the quicker the article can get back on the site.

Help - Must have been on auto pilot or something

Hi again! Not sure who I else I should direct this question to. I had a rather messy upload session today. (My brain must have frozen temporarily or something.) I now have two files I've uploaded that I'd really like to see deleted. I've marked them with a superseded tag, but I'm not sure if that's how I'm supposed to indicate deletion. Not only were the names wrong, but the images came out off centre. Both problems were my fault and I have posted new, better versions. Speedy Deletion Converted to PROD: Jackobillia

Thanks for that, but I'm confused. There is no substantial content (it's not even a "stub" category of article from what I can see) - that's why I chose the DB-A3 category. I did a google search of "Jackobillia" and there were *2* results returned! No other artist that I can see has a memorabilia page (even Elvis, the Beatles, etc). Ismael Mathay Sr. High School article

The first part of the above article is a direct copy of the website cited as its source.

I would just delete the sections as a copyvio, but:

1. people might think its just because I put forward objections to sections on the page and the layout (both on the Help Desk, and on the article itself - including its talk page)
2. the original creator (Palengkero) would probably just undo it, as he has for other changes I made to the page (two merge section suggestions, and a request for citations of notability for the Notable Alumni section)

I would be grateful if you would look at the page and its history. If Palengkerois the copyright holder of the website ([3]) then I can't see a copyright release. If this is the case, should this not be noted somewhere? Where would I find this information?

I have no problem with Prodego‎ (we've had polite conversations through our Talk Pages), but I feel that this article has problems which need to be addressed, and no one will look at it.

To be honest (and as I've told Palengkero), I'm not sure if the School is sufficiently notable to warrant an article in Wikipedia, but that's neither here nor there!

If you tell me that there's no problems, that I'm over-reacting or anything, no worries... I just want to know - and I don't want to look like a vindictive editor, as I'm not.

Re: Quick note

I am aware of the distinction although I obvuiosly got confused in my haste to try to stop the user's disruptive editing. Personally I feel it's not a particular issue in a case like this - a relatively new user isn't likely to have a grasp of the difference. I also feel that having such a distinction is pointless as both have largely the same effect and using two similar terms is confusing. I feel we should call both block / ban in general (with either term being allowable) and then qualify that for example temporary wikipedia-wide ban, permanent-topic ban, further qualifying by who imposed if neccessary. GCE Advanced Level in the United Kingdom and GCE Advanced Level

Hi. Thanks for getting back to me. Reading through these again I think you have a point. I think the text from GCE Advanced Level and GCE Advanced Level in the United Kingdom could be merged to produce a good article. We could also merge some of the other A Level related articles since they are relatively short, and as Commonwealth countries, the exams would be based on the UK system anyway. The only one that should probably stand alone as it appears to be different and contains a lot of useful information is the Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination. Armorial achievements

Hi Jarry, Is there a policy on how much of an armorial chievement should be displayed? I have the capacity to create a number of arms (the shields) but am not really skilled enough to create supporters or other materials. If there is a jpg or png file for the entire achievement of any given coat of arms, should I be creating an svg version... even if I can only create the shield? For example, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto displays the entire achievement. Is it better to have that displayed as it is, or as a copyright free svg? Many thanks! LivingBot

Hey Jarry, it seems that LivingBot is out of order again as my most recent WP:GA Pavilion projects was promoted an hour and a half ago with no change in Wikipedia:Good articles/recent. According to the page's history, it was operating quite well until earlier today (yesterday UTC). As I look at its most recent activity, it added Dominant white 11 minutes after it appeared at WP:GA, Apolo Anton Ohno 7 minutes, Max Boot 7 minutes and Sicklefin lemon shark 9 minutes after. Thanks very much for the offer. [4] I think nearly all of them are suitable for commons, but I'll check soon and get back to you. I think any that were labeled PD-US were taken in the US and before 1923 (I don't upload those published after 1923, but I suppose I'm allowed to; I'm not sure how any of this relates to Commons restrictions). There is one fair use pic I took at a sculpture garden last September that Commons won't allow, but it's the only pic that comes to mind. I took a look through the list, and everything seems to be good to upload. I checked the images of the paintings, and all the artists died at least 100 years ago, so I don't think there should be any problem at Commons, and I think PD-US is good for any of these files at Commons. Article Deleted - Explanation?

Hi,

A few months ago I contributed a piece on "open innovation intermediaries", which was deleted (apparently by you) on August 2 at 19:06 hours. The reason cited was "G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement (CSDH)". The first version of this piece was scheduled for deletion due to a lack of verifiable sources, and the second version (which included those sources) was deleted due to infringement.

Since speedy deletion was argued, I'd like to know where this infringement was found (and why it was "unsalvageable"), given that I received no notification whatsoever to provide clarification, but just found the page deleted a few weeks later. Some garbling by LivingBot at WP:GA

See this diff. A couple of problems:

• The new item got inserted after an existing quote mark, not before
• The new item was shown as alphabetized by last name, as it is in the GA list below, but should be shown as the article name.

I don't think either item is critical; they're just untidy. I think if I were making this list, then (since it is advertised as "Recently listed good articles") I would take a hard line and give the article's true name, without any of the beautifying that may be applied in the lists below. --Uncia (talk) 18:51, 18 September 2009 (UTC)

Thumb size preferences

Increasing the default thumbnail size

Jarry, there seems to be general support for an increase (from 180 to 220px, possibly). I'm asking your advice because you're a computer-savvy user and a member of BAG (and Tim Starling, whom I asked a few days ago, doesn't seem to be around at the moment). Is the best way of going about this to launch an RfC at the Image Use policy talk page, advertising it widely? Are there likely to be technical issues?

Dashes

I changed the spacing of the dashes simply because I thought it looked better, but if the MOS says no spaces, then no spaces it will be-I didn't realise! Incidentially, I went to St Helena. RASAM (talk) 18:41, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

RfC on increasing the default size of thumbnails

Hi Jarry: I've alerted Tim Starling to the ongoing RfC, which I hope people might agree to wind up in a few days' time. I mentioned you to him, since you gave a prelim technical opinion at the start. Please let me know if you have any thoughts on the matter; or you might wish to liaise with Tim yourself. Thanks. I think 220px is a no-brainer, but given the solid support for up to 250px, I'd personally be more comfortable with 230px. Tony (talk) 03:14, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Jarry, still nothing from Tim Starling, who must be trekking in wilderness for a month. I believe there was a WM conference in Argentina recently.

Mick Stephenson and I are both anxious that we know how things will proceed. The rise from 180 to 220px seems like a no-brainer (even though many would prefer a bigger up-step, myself included).
