If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Jack and Jill Foundation, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. —Yutsi Talk/ Contributions ( 偉特 ) 14:58, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

May 2012[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but in this recent edit you removed a speedy deletion tag from Jack and Jill Foundation, a page you have created yourself. If you believe the page should not be deleted, you may contest the deletion by clicking on the button that says: Click here to contest this speedy deletion and appears inside the speedy deletion notice. This will allow you to make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will consider your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_and_Jill_Foundation?diff=495307928 O.Koslowski (talk) 15:15, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Jonathan Irwin has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. GB fan 18:18, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Philippa Hiatt requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

Hi Irwin.lily! I've unblanked the page and removed the speedy deletion templates for now - I had a quick Google Books search and it looks like Ms. Hiatt might pass our notability criteria for biographies. It looks like she was notable both as an actress and as a gardener, and there are also sources about her under her other name, Pippa Irwin. A good hint for the next article you make - add the sources first. :) The new page patrollers are always looking to see if articles are sourced or not. If you add the sources now, it should stop people trying to delete it using another of our deletion processes. (See the deletion policy for the full array of deletion processes at Wikipedia's disposal.) Also, let me know if you have any questions about editing here, and I'll be glad to help. Conflict of interest[edit]

You should avoid writing articles about your family members, as you have done at Philippa Hiatt, Mary Ann O'Brien and Jonathan Irwin. Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines point out the difficulty of writing neutral articles about one's own close family members, or in recognizing that, no matter how important such people seem to us, they might not meet the guidelines for inclusion. Re: Conflict of Interest[edit]

Dear Dan61,

Thank you for your message dated 22 June 2012. I am sincerely grateful to you for bringing to my attention the problems that can arise from writing about one's own family. However, I have been extremely cautious to avoid being bias or one-sided. The articles on Philippa Hiatt and Mary Ann O'Brien are incomplete and will require a great deal more of information, sources, references, etc. Yet at the same time, I have expressed no personal opinion on either article, I have only recorded factual detail which can be checked anywhere. In regards to my article on Jonathan Irwin I have supplied twenty three references and five sources. I believe I have written in a wholly objective and neutral manner, I have expressed no personal opinions to his abilities or character.

However, if there is an item that concerns you please let me know.

Regards, Lily

Clarification please[edit]

In your article on Jonathan Irwin you make several references to partially identified sources, such as

Sweeney Tony, "Interview with Jonathan Irwin", 1975, p62

Could you please clear these up? When citing a source, there should be sufficient information for someone to readily find the source. For a newspaper article, the minimum information should be the author's name, the article title, the newspaper in which it appeared, the date on which it was published, and a page number if the article is in a print edition, or a URL if it is a web citation. Thanks! WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:11, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

re: clarification please[edit]

Dear Dan61,

Can you kindly explain to me why you have taken the liberty to delete the vast majority of my article on Jonathan Irwin? I am willing to listen to your criticism, as well as accept subtle additions or deletions but to eliminate vast quantites of the text is unacceptable. As you have requested, I will readdress my references now.

Regards,

Lily Irwin

First, I have not deleted the "vast majority". I have cleaned up what I perceived to be a poorly written article, according to Wikipedia guidelines. I have taken that liberty because I felt that the vast majority of the article was not properly referenced, was written more in the form of a personal reflection rather than an encyclopedia article, and because it contained too much information that looked more like a genealogy than an article. You are free to revert any changes I have made, but please remember to conform your writing to Wikipedia standards and guidelines, and please remember to keep your own conflict of interest in mind. Content dispute[edit]

Dear Dan 61, It occurs to me that you are unfamiliar with Thoroughbred Racing and perhaps with "Things" Irish. 2mins have produced a bevy of references on The Cartier Million within Google. Note quote "Irwin masterminded The Cartier Million". If you need further proof call The Irish Turf Club. As to name dropping --- you can't avoid a father-in-laws name & Tim Vigors was one of the 6 Irishmen to fly in the Battle of Britain and later set up The Coolmore Stud which now is the most dominant thoroughbred company worldwide. The reason so many use Wikipedia is the cross referencing from one entry to another. Otherwise you end up with nothing but bloodless & anodyne entries.

Below are some of the Cartier Million references to be found within Google:

I have copied your reply to Talk:Jonathan Irwin. As we are discussing article content, the proper venue is the talk page of the article in question, so that other editors may also engage in the conversation. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:27, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Most grateful to you for editing and cleaning up the references. However I noticed you have changed Pirate Irwin's name to Charles. Yes, he was christened this to keep the local vicar happy but has always been known as Pirate, his professional bye-line name in international newpapers is under Pirate Irwin and his first novel is also under the name Pirate Irwin.(Irwin.lily (talk) 16:18, 29 June 2012 (UTC))[reply]

The citation you provided lists his name as Charles. If he uses "Pirate" as a nickname or as a professional name, you'll need to provide a citation for that. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:24, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
