I am very sorry to hear that (and I'm sure Phightins! is as well) and I would expect that one day, this murderer's Wikipedia page will be able to say that he has been found guilty. However, until that time comes, we must accurately reflect that he is not officially guilty. As it appears you are the Maitre 'D on duty at this time, I would like to point out to you the exceptionally large number of negative questions that have come in in the last few hours. It seems like all the questions are from disruptive editors wanting to accuse others of the wrongdoing. As I have a very hard time sounding diplomatic and helpful in situations like that, I thought I would ask you to take a gander at things and see if you can offer a helpful, yet correcting answer, especially to the current top question regarding Camilla, Duchess of York. Generally speaking, I think it's just to make sure everything's running smoothly. The maitre d' page gives a description...I think that we're supposed to make sure all questions are being responded to and that the inappropriate questions are moved to an appropriate location. Hurricane Sandy

I saw your addition about Hurricane Sandy at the top of the page. Well, I'm a meteorologist and I can say you are in trouble, wherever you live. Hosting at the teahouse

Hi Phightins,

I've noticed you've reverted a couple of users who volunteered to host at the teahouse. In the two cases I've noticed that was the right call and I appreciate you handling the situation gracefully. I'm have a small concern regarding the edit count you're suggesting based on my own experience: I probably had only around 800 edits when Sarah asked me to go ahead and be a host already. Granted, standards are going to be rising, but I wonder if instead of edits we should be emphasizing "good answers" to the questions posed there; answer a couple dozen questions well and we're happy to have you be a host.

Or maybe that just turns the process into a mini-RfA..... eh, ok, nevermind. I'll just be happy I got in when I did and leave it at that. GaramondLethe 17:51, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

That was just an estimation. There are cases when editors who have as few as 500 edits could be ready, but none of the editors I rejected had even 150, so...I agree that some are definitely ready earlier, but that was just an estimation. Yep, that's all reasonable. I think I'm still having an allergic reaction to edit-counts-used-as-a-competence-metric that I've picked up from reading too many recent RfAs. You're using it (and using it appropriately) as a guideline and goal, not as a binary decision variable. The teahouse is small enough that good sense and reasonable judgement should suffice for the foreseeable future, and I should stop borrowing trouble and get back to editing. I do indeed apologize for my vandalism. I was making those vandalizations to demonstrate to a friend how quickly wikipedia cracks down on such kinds of edits. Well, I read it. It's an interesting perspective. I think that warning templates can definitely be a negative and I use them more than I should, but the problem is that users see them, know that it's a template, and don't respond or ask questions. Therefore, I always try to put a Teahouse template on a page where I put a level one warning. My issue with your essay is that you never really explain how to resolve the issue or give a clear point on how you feel it should be addressed. Go Phightins! 03:48, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Lou Saban

I'm curious why you quickly removed my edits on the Lou Saban page.

I made two edits;

1--The first was to revise a quote which was incorrectly worded. You said you wanted a source. The source is already listed, but the quote is incorrect.

2--I corrected an incorrect opponent when the article stated that OJ Simpson broke the single game rushing record v. the Washington Redskins in week 1 of the 1973 season.

a--Why doesn't the original information "need a source"? (especially since it is incorrect)

Ipv6freely, although the trade has been widely reported, it hasn't been "officially" announced as far as I can tell. "According to reports" isn't the same as officially announced, and thus, Go Phitins! is technically correct. You can edit the article within policy now to say that there are widespread reports that the trade is imminent, but you shouldn't actually move the players to their new teams for (probably) another few hours. This is partly to be technically correct and partly to avoid misleading people if the trade falls through at the last minute, which does happen sometimes.
Go Phightins!, although your position is correct per policy as you are aware, this sort of thing happens all the time, and honestly it's not the biggest issue confronting Wikipedia, and I don't think you should drive yourself too crazy trying to avert trade edits that are a few hours early. I'll assume both editors had good intentions. Calling the edits "unsourced" and explaining that the report is not quite official might have gone over better than calling them "not constructive". Before we accept reports as being merely premature and the official announcement a formality, see Phil Jackson recently or Chris Paul last years as far as premature announcements in the basketball world. Honestly, I left several edit summaries, asked the editor to look at them, and once he became entrenched enough not to pay attention to the cited policy, I figured he wasn't here to be constructive, so I left the level one vandalism template on his page. Or create your own, see free design ideas. - As for giving Precious, you don't have to do it every day, just when you feel like it. Your problems with (my) talk (my) sandbox etc.

Hi, I've been looking at User:Go Phightins!/common.css to figure out why you don't get the "Go Phightins!  my talk  my sandbox  my preferences  my watchlist  my contributions  log out" to appear correctly. There are two problems immediately apparent to me, and both concern lines of code which are not css at all: css files should contain only CSS, the presence of anything else may cause unexpected results, and some browsers may even refuse to process the page. I suspect the latter.

First, there is the very first line 

{{pp-protected|reason=Persistent [[WP:Vandalism|vandalism]]|small=yes}}

That is not css but wikicode. It should be removed, because not only might it break the CSS processing, it won't work as you might have intended: {{pp-protected}} doesn't confer protection, it's a message placed on a page that is already protected. However, there is no point to protecting this page, since user .css pages cannot be edited by non-admins (apart from the same user), and admins can edit pretty much any page whether protected or not.

Second, there is the code which you added with this edit: that is javascript code, totally unsuitable for a CSS file. This should be moved to User:Go Phightins!/common.js.

User:Go Phightins!/common.js could also do with cleanup: it has eleven instances of importScript( ... ); where only four are necessary (for instance, four of the eleven specify "User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/teahouseUtility.js", so three of those may be removed).

OK, I've worked it out, and I should have spotted it earlier. You nead to replicate this change. It's on the first line: the // is replaced by a /* and a */ is added at the end of the line. This is because in CSS, comments may only be specified by the /*    */ delimiters. The // form is valid in Javascript but not in CSS. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:57, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
