Thanks[edit]

Thanks for the appreciation. As you have suggested, moving the F and F article to FA is something in the back of my mind. Only thing is that I have to make up that mind. One of these days when I am on holiday and nothing much to do, I will take it up -- Amarrg 04:03, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Telugu script[edit]

You know very well that the scripts of both the languages have a common script and it is generally agreed that it evolved from the Bhattiprolu Brahmi script brought first to coastal Andhra by Buddhists. Logic and reason make one to surmise that the local language (in this case old Telugu) was written in the script. It is also agreed by historians and archaeologists that it should be known as Telugu-Kannada script, because some of the early discoveries from medieval tinmes were in Kannada language. Some historians do name it as 'Old Kannada' script. I am amazed as to why you insist that it should be written as 'old Kannada' although one of the citations (yours) clearly provide a cautionary note and that other also mentions the words "Kannada-Telugu script". I appeal to you to be reasonable. I shall not dispute if you use the words 'old Kannada' in relation to articles on Kannada script and language. Kumarrao 19:09, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cautionary note provided in the references talks about Telugu being independent language but not about script. This is what is says For example, Telugu script has been shown as a descendent of "old Kannada" script. It does not in any way mean that the language (as opposed to the script) has descended from Kannada. Kannada became a literate language slightly ahead of Telugu. For example, both Kannada and Telugu had produced poetry during the eighth century. Kannada writers had also produced full-fledged literary works in the ninth century. But it was two more centuries before major poetic works in Telugu became available. That is the reason for the combined Telugu-Kannada script to have been called as the "old Kannada.. Same thing has been said in other reference too. I've changed that sentence in the article to exactly reflect what's been said in references. Hope this solves the issue. Thanks, Gnanapiti 20:54, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Ravibelagere.jpg, by Venu62, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Be reasonable[edit]

You are citing an article repeatedly to assert that the Telugu script originated from 'Old Kannada' script although the usage of 'Old kannada' was not correct. The same reference you cited has two figures in which it was clearly mentioned as "Ancient Telugu-Kannada script of 5th century of Salankayana period". You deliberately ignore these figures. These two figures were uploaded into Wiki aricles on Telugu language and Telugu script. If you want to hold on to your argument, you may write so in articles on Kannada script and language. Compromise[edit]

I agree if the users use the name "Old kannada" in Kannada articles and "Telugu-Kannada" in Telugu language and Telugu script articles. The fact is that the script of both the languages evolved from a variant of Asokan Brahmi found in Bhattiprolu dating from pre-Mauryan times (4thcentury). I have cited an authoritative reference and pointed out the figures given in the article. It is absolutely clear from Figures T1a and T1b in the reference (http://www.engr.mun.ca/~adluri/telugu/language/script/script1d.html) how Telugu-Kannada script evolved from Asokan Brahmi script of Bhattiprolu. Kadamba scipt or "old Kannada script" are the names given by Kannada historians to Telugu-Kannada script.Kumarrao 06:12, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Childish denial[edit]

Mr Gnanapiti,

Question your conscience. This is the reference on which all your arguments to deny my inputs are based on: Reference # 9 in the article Telugu language. (http://www.engr.mun.ca/~adluri/telugu/language/script/script1a.html) Some of your friends tell me not to depend on web information in Wiki. Did they tell you the same? If not, why? Is it not hypocrisy? When you open this webpage and go to the section "Evolution of Telugu character graphs", you will find the Figures T1a and T1b, about which I have been trying to drive home my message. Either you do not have time to read these pages or you want to deliberately ignore the truth. Protecting your falsehoods cannot suppress the truth. Again, question your conscience. Kumarrao 05:17, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

False allegation[edit]

Your false allegation that I was canvassing support is absolutely unfair and is against Wiki standards. How hoping for support of others can be termed 'canvassing'? Do you understand English? Unfortunately, I am not well conversant with Wiki guidelines and contact administrators to discipline users like you. I hope some administrator will notice this prejudice of Gnanapiti and take suitable action against him. The unexplained reversions of my edits by multiple Wiki users, who are Kannada enthusiasts, strongly point towards some sort of collusion and collaboration. Everytime I make an edit, I am asked to explain but reversions of my edits are done nonchalantly without properly reading my inputs. This is ludicrous and it exposes the limititations of Wikipedia itself. Kumarrao 07:27, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re. your recent edits to Sivaji: The Boss[edit]

I've noticed that you've been cleaning up irrelevant references, unverifiable sources and deleting copy vio images on Sivaji: The Boss. Thanks. However, I just wanted to discuss with you how the following two images fall under copy vio:

  1. Image:2005112908090201.jpg
  2. Image:Sivaji firstday.jpg

The first is a fair-use image of a scan of a newspaper article. The second, is a photograph taken of a poster - again falling under the fair-use for movie posters. Was just wondering why and/how these images violated copyrights. Please let me know. If there are no issues with these images, then we could include them in the article again.
Also, I'm trying to figure out the sources/licensing for the other images in the article. If and when the fair-use rationale for those images are satisfied, mebbe we could discuss that too?

Kasaragod Tulu[edit]

Hello Gnanapiti,

I have done enough research to write that article. If you want proof, I can record the conversation of a Tulu women and present it before you.I am working on this article and shortly it will have citations. So until that, don't disturb me or edit the article. You see, Tulu is not only related to Kannada but is also related to Malayalam. So if you are feeling insecure of your culture being collapsed, thats not my fault. Its only your imagination.

I've seen that page Kasaragod Tulu . For me, it seems all crap. The variations cited here are also used by Mangaloreans. The variation like "beya" is a way of showing direspect generally used during a fight. Just because people in Kasaragod use some malayalam words in Tulu, it doesn't become a dialect. In that case, tuluvas in in Mumbai mix up some Hindi, tuluvas in Pune mix up some marathi, tuluvas in Coimbatore mix up some Tamil. Then we can starts several dialiects for Tulu --Crazysoul 08:54, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Frustration[edit]

I am thoroughly convinced that Wikipedia is a highly susceptible tool for spreading falsehoods by a group(s) of people who can collude among themselves and then twist, distort and protect their articles from well-meaning Users. At the same time, they can prevent others from editing their contributions in a clever and premediated fashion. I do not regret that I lost to a bunch of fanatics and chauvanists. I only hope that Wikipedia owners, administrators and others take notice of my frustration and amend the guidelines to make Wiki more credible and authentic.Kumarrao 14:52, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing in Karnataka[edit]

Good job on reference section of this article. They were occupying too much of the space and size. However, the History section and Economy section are poorly referenced now. I see hardly any referencing in those sections now. You may want to bring back some of the important references. Article size is looking better now. Thanks - KNM Talk 16:47, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the subarticle is well referenced. But the point is, during FAC or in Peer-review, we might face some comment on sections being under-referenced or poorly referenced. If we have atleast a few references in each section, then we can easily defend saying all the required and relevant references are covered in subarticles.
I have brought back couple of references to Economy section. Similarly we'll need to do for History section. - KNM Talk 17:15, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply[edit]

I have asked some questions to Mr arunkumar. He has answered it. You have also give the reply. I was just curious about billavas and beary bashe(that’s Y asked to arunkumar who hails from same place). Because i know that there are no Kannada speaking (mother tongue) Muslims in Karnataka. They speak Urdu in the state though they can speak kannada too.(but in Kerala there is no urdu and no common Muslims speak that too) that’s y i was curious abt beary bashe. And about billavas (a Tulu community) . There are two sub caste in them which are equally strong. i heard about malayali billavas also. i just wanted to know them too. Thanks for the link..

I know something abt kasargode taluk(North of chandagiri puzha a river). Majority of the population are Muslims. Almost 60%.Their mother tongue is Malayalam. Out of Hindus there are tulus, Malayalees Hindus, kannadigas, konkanis and Marathas. Also i wanted tell u one more thing here the muslims populations growing still very fast. (u know the reason !!!). however i just wanted to know the influence of kannada there.Since, eventhough majrority hindus are tulus, they are taught in kannada, just like neighbouring area.

I am here to learn new things, new language, and new culture which are new to me. Not about arguing for supremacy of any language or region. i love if majority Kerala speak Tamil, kannada or telugu, even Hindi. I like if that happens in Karnataka too. :)

Though now i am worrying about increase language based fundamentalism in Karnataka. There are lot of kannada orgs there fighting against releasing other language movies, vilent protest against in kaveri issue,(a lot of Tamils killed long back), rajkumar issue, violence against software companies complaining they are not recruiting kannadigas, violent belgav issue. These shown growing fundamentalisms. I am not telling kannada should be degraded in Bangalore or Karnataka. But banning other language movies and demanding for local recruitment ... really painful.. Everybody goes better job across the globe,. There are lot of kannadigas in US, UK etc. also in Bombay.. If US say, they won’t allow Kannada movies to release there. Even some people start against Indians working there, settling there....what will happen to this world.

Everybody wants better life, money, status.... u, me, all wants it....

There a lot good about Kerala and Karnataka. One thing i appreciate there is least language based fundamentalism. No malayali rakshana vedike and all. Kerala has rich culture like Kalari, kathakali, one of the most beautiful place in the world etc. Karnataka, known for IT industries, carnataic music. etc. One thing i don’t like abt Kerala is too much politics. One thing i don’t like abt Karnataka is too much language based fundamentalism

So there are a lot of good abt both the states, its language and culture. It’s the educated people's responsibility to teach and guide the bad elements among us. Daya anjali 05:07, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

Image:Kuvempu.jpg fair use rationale[edit]

Hi! I hate to be a bother, but the fair use rationale for Image:Kuvempu.jpg isn't really detailed enough: it needs to explain why no free-use copy could be acquired instead ("because he's dead" is probably sufficient) and briefly state the rationale for each article.

Also, there's a principle that you can only use fair-use images in articles they have a strong relationship to. Several of the articles it appeared in had no mention of him that I could spot outside of the picture caption - that's not allowed. I've cut it down to the most relevant two: him and his house (and, arguably, it could be cut from his house, as other images exist that also illustrate it.)

I've noticed in the process of doing this that a lot of other photos that I think you uploaded are used similarly for decoration, rather than a direct need of the article for the image. Could you go through and fix them, removing any that aren't strongly related to the article at hand? At a minimum, the article should have at least one section devoted solely or primarily to the subject of the fair use image for it to be justified. Adam Cuerden talk 22:28, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replacable fair use[edit]

Image:Basavanna.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Basavanna.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Basically, other depictions exist, this one may be available free-use with some searching, and a photo of a statue under a free-use licence exists. Adam Cuerden talk 22:36, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Basavanna.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Basavanna.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:09, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

india[edit]

you removed everything i put into that article صلاة اليهود في كنيس بمناسبة يوم كيبور

and ruined the format with to many imagesصلاة اليهود في كنيس بمناسبة يوم كيبور
Yes, because that article looked so messed up. Wikipedia is not a photo album or a place to promote tourism. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia for godsake. There is a fixed format to be followed while writing an article. Dumping each and every detail with hundreds of photos is not going to help. We have to give links to main articles in each section where reader can go and look for what he wants. I'm cleaning up that article which has already consumed huge amount of my time. I know all your edits are in good faith and you want to contribute immensely to that article. All images you have added are beautiful. But unfortunately, wikipedia doesn't work that way. Thanks for your contributions. Please revert back. Gnanapiti 03:23, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You could have simply taken the images out with out efing up all my editsصلاة اليهود في كنيس بمناسبة يوم كيبور
See WP:OWN. And yeah, don't try to act too smart by using offensive language. You might get blocked for doing so. Gnanapiti 03:53, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I never used offensive language and I will come back at a later date to clean up the format of that article. Also all the text in that article I believe was copied and pasted from other websites or travel brochures. You can tell anything that was writen in their own words didn't make sense, as it is with most related articles for this kind of topic صلاة اليهود في كنيس بمناسبة يوم كيبور

why am i not surprised?[edit]

why was i not surprised when i saw your comment on the wikipage of sivaji movie. it is so sad to see the Tamil-Kannada edit wars. I only feel sorry for you folks. BTW, i am neither a kannadiga nor a tamilian, so you can stop spewing venom at me. --Kalyan 05:16, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i am glad you took the chill pill after that first response. if you noticed, i had made significant modifications in the first 2/3 sections that i could last night to ensure that all unverified claims were removed, added "fact" tags and removed suspect websites. i can only be objective about my work and i hope the same from you. wrt sivaji - i am not a great fan of rajinikanth and the last movie i watched of him in theater was thalapathi (though regret not seeing basha on the big screen). i am trying to be objective about the data we have in there. Enjoy your day. --Kalyan 05:35, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
