This article is essentially an "uncited" repeat version (for most part) of Kingdom of Mysore. Since we are working on the Kingdom of Mysore for FA, the "Wodeyar" article needs to be reduced to a stub or short article describing what the name means etc.Dineshkannambadi 19:21, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Surely the Wodeyar chronology info can go as it is repeated in Mysore Kingdom .Info on growth of Kingdom, Tipu, Haider Ali dont belong there anyway. We can keep the lead paragarph, "curse of Wodeyar" etc and clean it up later.Dineshkannambadi 21:52, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps a detailed message (later on) to Rajachandra when we are ready to go for FA for Mysore Kingdom to help trim the Wodeyar page would do.Dineshkannambadi 22:47, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Keynes[edit]

I am sure there is little chance of people thinking I am J M Keynes, the economist. He died before wikipedia came up, so I think I'll stick to the name until somebody gets confused. I did not know the policy with choosing IDs, but I am glad I did not choose a recently deceased person instead, so I'm still on safe ground. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Sarvajna Manauscipts.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sarvajna Manauscipts.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:16, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit summary said "Please discuss on the Talk page." I have discussed it to death on the talk page. I have provided references from Britannica, The Sangeet Natak Academy, and Shivarama Karanth himself. Please read Talk:India#Reliable_Sources_Not_YouTube_on_Yakshagana for an extensive set of references. Yakshagana is not considered a classical dance form. It is traditional theatre which has elements of dance and music in it, like Jatra of Bengal and Tamasa of Maharashtra. Equilibrium[edit]

Hi Gnanapiti, Thanks for adding "pepper" in your edit summary "chicken alone was proved dubious, not pepper" accompanying your edit on the India page. Although I didn't completely agree with your edit summary (since both the archaeological and the genetic evidence for sugar and oranges is beset with the same uncertainties as those for chicken), I did agree that the case for "black pepper" is much stronger. So, I first simply reinstated "black pepper." But, later, realizing that "black peppper" and "chilli pepper" are more spices than foods, I changed the "foods" to "spices." The sentences on "Indian cuisine" in the culture section now read:

I only realized this morning that they have a kind of symmetry: they start out with a general statement about the cuisine(s) and the spices, and then follow up with a sentence each (involving examples or vignettes) on the staple foods and spices. Thus, even in seeming antagonism, equilibrium can be reached if people make and acknowledge substantive points. So, thanks! Fowler&fowler«Talk» 14:50, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gnanapiti. I am curious to know why the image which I uploaded (Image:Dravidian(people).jpg) was deleted, and why it was considered as "Patent nonsense and gibberish, an unsalvageably incoherent page with no meaningful content" (G1 Category for Speedy Deletion). The image had been created as a collage from images which had already been uploaded on Wikipedia. It was also done to show some famous people who were Dravidian, and I think that I had covered most states, ethnicities and fields (such as cinema, politics, etc.) Daavir 01:20, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kannada literature[edit]

I'll shoot through a few more Kannada writers tomorrow if you like -his bibliography needs addressing -although it looks like the Times of India is a bit vague on his works. I often look at adding images for deceased people where a free image can't be located. This is partly why I was offended by the Bollywood blog thing where I spent weeks trying to get us a secure deal which I believed was valid to help WP India and wikipedia in general and see it trying to be deleted. I would rather not have had to confront anybodu. Best regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 22:58, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am glad to be of service.[edit]

Dear Sir: I am glad to be of service. And please let me add that I also have no particular "axe to grind" against feminism, as I tried to make clear: the feminists surely have many valid points to make which merit careful consideration. Do we wish to bring back suttee? How many poor wives throughout history have been beaten by drunken husbands? The feminists are right: enough is enough! I merely wish to shield the English language, which is my mother, my sister, and my daughter, from verbal abuse by the well-intentioned but inerudite mobs of 20th Century opinion. I once had a French professor named Rosmarin from Montreal who was perfectly bilingual. He said: "I detest this term 'chairperson'." It's just not beautiful English. Poverty in India Image[edit]

Beggar in Bodhgaya

There is a discussion going on regarding whether or not the following image should be a part of the Poverty in India page. Most Poverty in *Country* pages do not have any images, at most 1. User:Otolemur crassicaudatus has brought many images showing extreme poverty in India and has tried to mislead people into thinking this is the way a majority of poor Indians live. There is a vote in which your input would be appreciated. You can find this discussion here

I feel that the the Bodhgaya Beggar image does not represent poverty in India correctly because:

  • The beggar in Bodhgaya image does not accurately depict poor people in India because they do not look like this. This man is an exception. To say that this man represents all poor people in India is very wrong. A small minority of Indias poor are disabled. Most living under the poverty line work long hours fishing, farming or as construction workers. This picture shows a man whose legs have been broken. Unless a majority of India's or even a fraction of the poor have legs like this, the image is irrelevant and undue to the poverty in india page.
  • Poverty and Disability are not connected in any way. There are thousands of super rich people who are disabled.
  • There are 11 country articles on poverty
  • This user is being uncivil and unyielding. This user has tried to have my user page deleted because it said America is priceless!
  • This image is being used by User:Otolemur crassicaudatus to display his dislike of India and to mislead people into thinking that this is the plight of millions of poor Indians. This user has often added images showing extreme poverty to many India relating articles.[3] Even though this user knows that poverty is present in every country and that extreme poverty is not a fair representation of the Indian economy, this user has previously tried to add an image of children washing their clothes in a mud puddle to the economy section of the India page. This user has added this image to the poverty section of the Economy of India page, when a graph showing poverty would make more sense.
  • WP:Undue says:
We should not attempt to represent a dispute as if a view held by a small minority deserved as much attention as a majority view. Views that are held by a tiny minority should not be represented except in articles devoted to those views. To give undue weight to a significant-minority view, or to include a tiny-minority view, might be misleading as to the shape of the dispute.

This can be applied to this because a very tiny fraction of poor people in India are disabled. Most work very hard trying to make a living for themselves. This image is misleading. Nikkul (talk) 02:54, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is no evidence that Karnataka Sangeetha was formally renamed as Carnatic music by any respected music scholar. Please allow the valid changes to Music of Karnataka. Fair use rationale for Image:Mungaru Male.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Mungaru Male.jpg. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Speedy deletion of Sudeep[edit]

A tag has been placed on Sudeep requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Amog | Talkcontribs 08:25, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Folk Art?[edit]

It is very sad to note that Yakshagana has been placed next to folk dances like Bhangra. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_folk_dances. We need to do something about it. Yakshagana rhythms are one of the most sophesticated and complicated for any art in India strictly follows classical Tala system and not folk groves as in Bhangra. The dance needs years of learning of abhinaya and practice of scholarly debate. The dialog is spontanious and improvisation of all of its part, dialog, dance and music is a unique feature not seen in any other art form. We need to create a section called semi classical art forms and add Yakshagana.

We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Allegations of State terrorism by Sri Lanka. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:31, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Media bias in India[edit]

Though I have writing to wiki I am new to Wikipolitics. "Media bias in India" [4] got deleted by comments and votes of those who either did not care, did not know or had vested interests. I will be thankful if you can create or revoke and allow an article of that nature mature. I only write and lack energy and time to fight politics. Thank you for the support, ~rAGU (talk)

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Gnanapiti! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 963 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Request for peer review.[edit]

Hi Gnanapiti,

I am Tejaswi, a native of Siddapur, Uttarakannada. The article Namadhari naik belonging to Karnataka wikigroup, is edited by me and deals with the community history of the Namadharis/Halepaiks of Uttara Kannada. In creating this article i have referred to most of Kannada literature sources, some of which are really rare [ex; Bombay gazetteer in Karnataka: Dharwad,Belgaum,Bijapur and Kannara districts, Venkataramgo Katti; Kaada toreya jaadu: Autobiography of Kadidal Shamanna; Kagodu ondu nenapu, C.B.Chandrashekhar;The Nayakas of Ikkeri, K.D.Swaminathan;,Bimba-Pratibimba, Dr.L.R.Hegde;D.L.N Avara Ayda Lekhana, Kamala Hampana]. These form a necessary part of the glorious literary tradition of Kannada language and need to be seconded. hence i request you to kindly review the page.

offlate, i have been facing unilateral notices on the material without a proper knowledgable discussion on the topic. the member issuing notices seems to lack relevent knowledge in the subject and is defintely biased. but the warnings and unwarranted editing may lead to the page loosing out on the precious information derived from above mentioned sources. So i request neutral observers like you to review it and opinionate. thankyou

New heading 'Historical reference' added to Belgaum Border Dispute.[edit]

Plz check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgaum_border_dispute#Historical_Reference . I have added new info which should change the way this dispute has been seen till now and tilt the balance in Karnataka's favour. It is obvious that it might face war-editing from certain sections. I request you to follow the page and ensure the truth prevails.

Wikipedians from Karnataka[edit]

Hi, I'm trying to put together a list of Wikipedians from Karnataka. I'm also trying to gather together the contacts. The idea is to build a network of Wiki enthusiasts, contributors from the region that could help sync off-line Wiki activity, bring together people who can work together in effectively reaching out to the public in the region on using Wikipedia and related open content projects. Can you help by sending your contact and also by referring editors from Karnataka you've come across on Wikipedia? Thank you, --H P Nadig \Talk \Contributions 19:37, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Agumbe morning.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Agumbe morning.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. March 2011[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Idli. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. This is your final warning. Three editors have disagreed with you, yet you present no argument other than you don't agree or like it.SpacemanSpiff 18:41, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Kuvempu.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Kuvempu.jpg. If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too.
