Jeremy Roberts[edit]

Do NOT cut and paste articles about other people from their existing title into new ones so that you can hijack their title for somebody else. We have a process for resolving name conflicts, and that is not it — the article will get created in due time at its appropriate title, but you may not simply take over somebody else's article to make it happen. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mike Duggan (Canadian politician), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page North Bay (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from 2017 French presidential election into 2022 French presidential election. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 21:57, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, please do not put the Category:Green Party of Canada politicians on the article titled Dylan Perceval-Maxwell. Replaceable fair use File:Conservative Party of Quebec Logo (2021).png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Conservative Party of Quebec Logo (2021).png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. UOSU Article Merger[edit]

Hi Fulserish,

I see you merged the SFUO and UOSU pages together. I don't think that is warranted, as they are distinct and separate organizations. They had no overlapping history other then its dissolution, and have separate governing structures that do not align. I think they should be kept separate and linked to each other, so readers will understand them as different organizations that simply did the same task in representing students at the university.

Moneymanmark (talk) 03:58, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Moneymanmark,
For the purposes of Wikipedia, the University of Ottawa Students' Union does not have enough notability for it to be featured in its own article. Not only did it inherit the Student Federation of the University of Ottawa's businesses and services, but it basically performs all the same tasks. The only difference, in reality, is their name and manner of governance; everything else is basically the same.
Sure, they are not the same organization inherently, but they are practically the same in terms of day-to-day operations, and readers can easily make that distinction. I am also the original creator of the original draft article for the University of Ottawa Students' Union, so I know pretty well what you're referring to. Thanks for your message. Fulserish (talk) 04:11, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As you said, you are the original creator of the draft article, so obviously you thought it met the notability standards. It has been reported on by many sources, and on many subjects, and is certainly notable on its own.
Just because they perform the same duties, doesn't mean they should be included in the same article. They are not the same organization. The article is about the UOSU, which is not the SFUO. "Everything else is basically the same" is lazy. Unless the article was about the history of student unions at the university in general, it doesn't work. It is easy to link the two articles to each other, as you had previously proposed. Moneymanmark (talk) 04:57, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you sincerely believe that they should not be merged, I first invite you to undo the merger, and create a proper article on the UOSU that can be approved by Wikipedia reviewers. However, I will not be personally undoing my previous changes; it failed previously, and I do not expect it to pass through. Perhaps it would be better to simply change the article as a whole to "Student government at the University of Ottawa" instead.
As for your argument that it's been reported on by "many sources," I'm pretty certain that most of those mentioned are by University of Ottawa news organizations, which, although on its own seems alright, I would argue otherwise. But, we're all just contributors at the end of the day; we don't make the rules, and we need to maintain WP:NPOV. Regards, Fulserish (talk) 05:33, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
