List of British comedians[edit]

Hi Ernsanchez00 and welcome to Wikipedia. I was wondering why you unlinked "Birds of a Feather" in this edit? Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 08:24, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Upon further consideration, I'm guessing it's probably because it was already linked earlier in the article. In which case, no problem. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 08:34, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Because of celebrity's last name that came first alphabetically with a clicked link. The other celebrities that came second/third last name alphabetically that are unlinked because it's a same TV show that already starred in.
Regards.

Welcome to WikiProject Orphanage[edit]

Hello, Fellow de-orphaner![edit]

I noticed you added your name to the list of participants in WikiProject Orphanage. We really appreciate your help! The first things you could do to get started with us are:

  1. Read the Wikipedia:Orphan page, especially the section marked "Criteria". The page contains a lot of good advice to get you started, as well as the standard procedures we are using to de-orphan articles.
  2. Look at {{Orphan}}, and {{Multiple issues}} closely and make sure you know how to use them correctly.
  3. Keep de-orphaning! Category:Orphaned articles contains all orphaned articles organized by month and there is a large backlog we need to clear out so we appreciate any help we can get.

Of course, you may have already known all of this, in which case sorry for the spam. Either way, let me know if there's any way I can help you contribute more to the project!

Hello, Ernsanchez00

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username The Night Watch, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, List of stage names beginning with E, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|The Night Watch}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of stage names, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page George Montgomery. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

List of stage names[edit]

Hi there! Just a couple of points of note in the editing of the List of stage names article -

  • The first line of the article states that "This list of stage names lists names used by those in the entertainment industry, alphabetically by their stage name's surname".

You've done a fine job of alphabetizing the list so far, but it should be by their SURNAME, not their first name as you have done.

  • The article clearly states that people who are NOT listed include "Those who changed their name to perform a character or alter ego, including drag performers and professional wrestlers".

Any wrestlers should not be added unless they are known for something else apart from wrestling, such as Hulk Hogan who is also an actor.

On a separate matter, I think it sucks that they have deleted the individual pages for each letter. Others have commented on how the article needs splitting but when something is done about it, the new pages get deleted. Maybe you have to do all of them in a Sandbox and publish them all at once. Ozzieboy (talk) 18:28, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jr. and Sr.[edit]

Refer MOS:JR

"Do not put a comma before Jr. or Sr. (or variations such as Jnr)."

"Deceased" in infoboxes[edit]

Information icon Stop putting "deceased" in infoboxes. Infoboxes should contain a minimal amount of information. It is not standard for the template. Whether someone is deceased belongs in the text of the article, and it usually is found there already. Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Sundayclose (talk) 18:52, 5 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves for school articles[edit]

While there are definitely school articles where a move / rename is appropriate, the use of the WP:COMMONNAME should take priority. Regardless of how the school is listed on their website, it would seem that there are very few articles where "Junior-Senior" or "Jr./Sr." are part of the common name used in articles about the school. You may want to exercise more discretion in such page moves and seek consensus for the name change, which have in many cases spent 15 or more years with the same names. Removal of grade ranges[edit]

Why are you removing the grade ranges for districts in List of school districts in New Jersey? There are all sorts of varieties of grade ranges (K-12, K-6, K-8, 7-12 and 9-12, among others) and the detail provides the reader some understanding of the structure of the district. Why remove this relevant content? Alansohn (talk) 23:55, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Poorly-sourced birth dates[edit]

Hi. I wanted to explain why I reverted a change you made to Dexter Doria. In this edit, you added a birth date, but you didn't cite a reliable source. Wikipedia has strict rules on content in biographies of living persons because this can impact real peoples' lives. Please be aware that many sites on the internet purport to give information about celebrities, but few of them of reliable. Sites like the IMDb use user-generated content, and they should not be cited in biographical articles. Similarly, celebrity gossip websites should not be used because most of them don't have a history of fact checking or publishing corrections. Fan sites and blogs are self-published and have no editorial control. We also can't use primary documents, such as government birth databases or genealogical websites (which are also typically user-generated, as above). This means that the number of available sources is quite slim, and we often have to either go without this information or wait until a source like The Philippine Star or the BBC publishes an interview that includes a birth date. If you're not sure whether a source is reliable, you can ask at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 02:29, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm so sorry about that, thank you for the explanation about Dexter Doria's Bio. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 08:34, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to Dorothy Tenham[edit]

Hi. Thanks for your recent edits to Dorothy Tenham. I'm proposing to revert the change you made of 'actor' to 'actress' and I want to run my reason past you before doing the edit. It's modern practice to use gender neutral terms in describing people's jobs. Gender specific terms like actress, aviatrix, conductress, comedienne and so on are increasingly - and in some cases completely - obsolete. It was a considered decision on my part to use the word actor when writing the piece. We do not know if Tenham preferred actor or actress to define her early career but as she was clearly an advanced and forward-thinking individual I suspect she would have used actor, particularly later in her career. Please let me know your view. If I do not hear from you I shall make the reversion.

Worth observing as well, I think, that if you are making a change in an article it should be consistent throughout the piece. You left at least two further references to 'actor' unaltered.

Regards, Vortexionio (talk) 19:07, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, but thank you for the info about the edits to Dorothy Tenham. I didn't know that I made changes from actor to actress. I thought she was a female. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 19:42, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorting of Dutch surnames[edit]

Hi, I see that you've changed the sorting of several Dutch biographies, such as this change. The category being added must already exist, and must be supported by the article's verifiable content. Categories may be removed if they are deemed incorrect for the subject matter. When adding a category check that the category is supported by what is in the article. You latest category additions appear automatic and added without consideration of what is in the article. I suggest going over your latest category additions and removing the incorrect ones. I only looked at categories that were added to articles in my watchlist. Geraldo Perez (talk) 17:13, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Which incorrect ones are you discussing about? The multi-camera sitcoms category of each decade or no? Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 17:17, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If the series isn't described as a sitcom, remove all categories that have the word "sitcom" in them. If the article doesn't mention camera setup, remove all categories that mention camera setup. This applies to all decades, years, or any other added words in the category.
If a series is a "sitcom" that will be mentioned in the intro or lead section. Camera setup is usually mentioned in the production section or lead if considered important to the article writers and can be sourced. Geraldo Perez (talk) 17:27, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that makes sense, thank you. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 17:29, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ernsanchez, I've noticed your name on my watchlist for edits like this and this. Just leaving a friendly pointer to the guideline on subcategorization, which says generally not to add an article to a category when it is already in a subcategory of that category. For example, Category:YouTubers from Minnesota is a subcategory of Category:American YouTubers, so an article in the state category does not need to be added to the higher-level category. For example, Category:Canadian YouTubers did not seem so overly populated that Category:Canadian YouTubers by city and Category:Canadian YouTubers by province or territory (and the subcategories within) needed to be created. You should bring this to discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject YouTube to achieve consensus before proceeding further. Thank you. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 21:47, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. I came up with the idea about the category of Canadian YouTubers by city or by province/territory. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 21:49, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the categorization you are attempting is too narrow. I may nominate these categories for merging back into their parent categories (probably not today). Please refrain from creating more or adding more articles to the ones you created in the meantime. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 21:52, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ernsanchez00,

I'm not sure what you are trying to do here. You empty a category, which is an "out of process" act and is discouraged and then you put a CFD notice on the category. But it links to a page (February 11th) where there is no related CFD discussion about this category. So, I go back and forth, search different days with CFD discussions and I find one on February 4th that has a discussion about actors and actresses from different regional areas but the discussion doesn't include this category. You can't retroactively include a category in a CFD discussion that is not only CLOSED but didn't include this category in the first place. You're not a new editor any longer so it's hard from me to follow the thought process here.

So, here's what I'm going to. Even though this category was "emptied out of process", I'm going to remove the CFD tag for a discussion (on the wrong day) that didn't include this category and instead tag it for speedy deletion, CSD C1. Please do not do this with other categories, just go through the regular process of filing for a new CFD discussion. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 23:18, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed that you created this category. So, since you tagged it for a CFD, I assume that you want it deleted, so I'm just going to delete it now as a CSD G7. I hope that is okay. If you want it restored, just let me know. Liz Read! Talk! 23:20, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, so sorry about that. I tried. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 23:36, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to join New pages patrol[edit]

Hello Ernsanchez00!

  • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Categories[edit]

Hello, Ernsanchez00,

I've noticed that some of your category changes to articles are being reverted by User:Giovanni 0331. To avoid any possible edit-wars in the future, it might be wise to start a discussion with the other editor on your differing interpretations on what categories regarding sexual orientation and sexual identity (along with occcupation) are appropriate. I've tagged them so they are aware of my suggestion. Some times, it's easier to hash things out on a User talk page rather than edit at cross-purposes. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:27, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, that made sense. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 01:29, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also on categories, I see that you have quite arbitrarily recategorised a very large number of people identified in their articles as British to "English" in their categories. Most recently moving people described as "British actors" to English actor categories, but there are hundreds of them in your edit history and I have only reverted the recent ones. You should be aware that whether or not someone is described as British, or English/Welsh/Scottish/Irish, is established - as set out in the MoS - according to reliable sources also taking account of any personal preference expressed by the subject - and changes between them are specifically deprecated unless this is done on the back of reliable citation. Your shifting individuals from British to English categories, based on no argumentation or citation or consensus, where their articles use the British moniker is unacceptable, disruptive editing - All of these changes need to be undone by you, please (or reported). Thank you in anticipation MapReader (talk) 07:55, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MapReader, so sorry about that, I didn't know that. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 07:58, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So what made you think you can decide that someone described in their article as British is suddenly English? Many of your changes are BLPs and what you have done is clearly wrong. MapReader (talk) 08:24, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I honestly did. I just want it to be specific that's all. I know I made a huge mistake about this. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 08:58, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It would be like recategorising all American actors as Californian actors, on the basis of no evidence at all. Please undo all of your British to English changes, to avoid my having to report a major BLP breach on ANI. Thank you in anticipation. MapReader (talk) 09:12, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that makes sense. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 11:12, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Threats are not helpful, MapReader. You can get across your point without suggesting that you'll take an editor to ANI. All editors are in a process of improving and getting better. It helps to ask a lot of questions if you are unsure and know your limits. For example, I'm unfamiliar with templates and files so I only handle them if an editor whom I recognize knows them well asks me to take action on their behalf. And no one comes to Wikipedia understanding WP:MOS! Ernsanchez00, I appreciate your openness to editors coming here and correcting some of your editing decisions. That's not always the case. But if you want to be editing Wikipedia long-term, it's important to be able to listen to criticism, consider whether or not it is accurate and, if it is, change your behavior. I've been editing for over 10 years and I still get these kinds of messages. It's part of working on a collaborative editing project. We are all in the process of improving our knowledge. Liz Read! Hello, Ernsanchez00,
You might be correct about these categories, I haven't looked into the subject. But if you find an editor consistently undoing your editing, it's best to go to their User talk page and talk about your differences and rather than getting frustrated. Gender / sexual orientation categories[edit]

Hello. As you may have noticed, I have reverted most of your edits regarding bisexual and transgender actors and emptied some of your category pages. The reason I have been doing this is to prevent over-subcategorising the article pages and some of these category pages contain less than five subjects. I apologise for not giving you earlier notice. What I feel the best option would have been is to create these individual categories. Example: Category:French bisexual men and Category:French bisexual actors. "Fixed"[edit]

Hi @Ernsanchez00, I've noticed that you have a tendency to just write "fixed" in edit summary boxes. This is never a sufficient explanation for an edit, as it doesn't help other editors understand your motives or reasons. On the pages The Cleaning Lady (American TV series) and Bliss (2018 TV series), for example, you removed categories and simply wrote "fixed", as if that in any way explained the deletions—it doesn't. Please either do a better job summarizing your edits, or stop removing content from articles without a good reason. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 22:38, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, my apologies for the oversight. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 22:41, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm disappointed to see that we have to go over this again. First of all, writing misleading edit summaries is not an "oversight", it's either neglect or deception. Second, even though you've improved your edit summaries a little, they are still inadequate. Why are you removing categories from television articles?! Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 06:30, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because I tried to type the reason for the edit, but I'm not too sure why I typed the reason for my edit so I typed, "Remove the category". So you're right, I did something wrong. :( Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 06:33, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't get the sense that you are taking my concerns seriously. Can you please explain why you insist on removing categories from certain television articles? Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 07:58, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For me, I removed the categories from television articles It's mainly because for example, when I added "Fox Broadcasting Company television dramas" for Cleaning Lady, the category of "Fox Broadcasting Company original programming" remained the same, so that's why I removed the category of "Fox Broadcasting Company original programming". Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 08:06, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, you mean the Fox Broadcasting Company television dramas subcategory is within the Fox Broadcasting Company original programming category, and thus the latter is redundant, right? Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 09:12, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 09:22, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, now it makes sense—thanks for explaining. Next time, you can just write "already in subcat" as an edit summary :) Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 09:52, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, no problem. I should write it "already in subcat" as an edit summary as well instead of "fixed". :) Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 09:54, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of comedians[edit]

Hi, I've noticed you are adding a lot of people on this page that aren't comedians. A comedian is defined as someone whose work or specialty is primarily defined by comedy, whether it's standup, sketch, improv, or the amount of films/TV that are comedy is 80% or greater. You've been adding actors who don't qualify as comedians so I'm removing some of your edits to make sure it's complying with the definition of comedian. Please try and focus on other pages to edit rather than this page for the time being. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rivianboy9834 (talkcontribs) 18:33, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, my apologies about that. Thank you. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 20:24, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Universities Canada has been nominated for deletion[edit]

Category:Universities Canada has been nominated for deletion. A discussion is taking place to decide whether it complies with the categorization guidelines. A tag has been placed on Category:Musicians from the London Borough of Sutton indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 07:07, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Emptying out categories[edit]

Why are you emptying out "Musicians from ____" categories to get them speedy deleted? ★Trekker (talk) 22:58, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, my apologies about that. I just emptied out the categories to make it to the "Musicians by London borough" to change it. For example: From "Musicians to Westminster" to "Musicians from the City of Westminster." Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 23:06, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see. It would be best to use the old categories as parent categories in that case.★Trekker (talk) 01:59, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, that will do. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 02:21, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Footballers by city or town[edit]

Did you forget to add these nominations to Categories for Discussion? You added the template to the category pages but I can't find the nomination anywhere. Sionk (talk) 19:12, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, my apologies. I forgot to add these nominations to Categories for Discussion. Thank you for asking. I think I did it right. Ernestine Sanchez (talk) 19:13, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
