Thanks to the contributions of our many members and supporters, WP:YORKS has become a leading local British WikiProject in terms of the total number of articles supported (up from 13,279 last month to 13,303 on 2nd June). In the area of GAs WP:YORKS at 139 is ahead of WP:GM who have 85. WP:GM has the lead in FAs at 62 out of a total number of 3,842 articles.
Currently we have forty five Yorkshire featured articles:
As of 28 March 2017, we have assessed 100% of all articles with a project banner.

Snap general election
With the calling of a snap general election there will be a lot of changes required to articles over the coming month to update the candidates and results for these in articles. There may be a set of new articles required for new MPs elected this time.
We also need to keep an eye out for any bias in articles about those standing for the election and to keep strict ballot paper order for the election results tables in the constituency articles before the results are know. We all have our views on this but we must remain as neutral as possible.

Rindler chart
Hi, in a former version of Rindler coordinates, you wrote that the Rindler chart on the left is plotted for g=1 (or α=1 in my notation). However, when I tried to recreate the plot using WxMaxima, I obtained the same result only by using α=0.5. The same observation was also made on https://mathematica.stackexchange.com/a/26647. Therefore I changed the text in the current article to α=0.5. Do you agree? --D.H (talk) 09:29, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
As it's some years ago since I did this, I can't remember exactly how I did this, but I'll look into my archives and hopefully will be able to find the MATLAB code that I used, and check it out. Why did you remove the inclusion of Tell 'Em Steve Dave from the tachyonic antitelephone page? Good point, I've deleted the South Park example as well. The point is, unless the specific phrase "tachyonic antitelephone" is used, or the method that the "time phone" uses is explained in sufficient detail to be sure that it is a tachyonic antitelephone, it's not relevant to the article. -- Dr Greg talk 18:02, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Dr Greg. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Morning Dr Greg, you've sent me a message about taking external links off The Fylde - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fylde. I'd just like to explain if I may.
Visit Fylde Coast (www.visitFyldeCoast.info) is an umbrella site for a suite of linked local websites about the area. Individually they provide the most comprehensive and up to date online resource of information available to date about each place named in the Geography section of the article. Including extensive descriptions with photos, video and maps of the seafronts, local parks, history, local weather, information from local community groups and much much more. It's not a 'newspaper' resource. Between them and Wikipedia a reader would have a full encyclopedia of this coastline to explore. For example, the regular spectacle of sea foam here https://www.visitfyldecoast.info/environment/weather-and-tides/sea-foam. A section-by-section description of each bit of each seafront in each place - the Blackpool coastline is here in 20 different pages https://www.liveblackpool.info/about/seafront/. I might add that none of the 'official' tourism websites include such a large amount of information about the coastline which they represent, more or less sticking to 'we've got beach'! I've been compiling this body of work for the last 8 years and there's still a lot more to do, so I would respectfully ask you to reconsider. Many thanks in anticipation. My apologies - I wasn't aware of that. But looking at the source... shouldn't that whole paragraph be removed per WP:DAILYMAIL? "Consensus has determined that the Daily Mail (including its online version, dailymail.co.uk) is generally unreliable, and its use as a reference is to be generally prohibited, especially when other more reliable sources exist. As a result, the Daily Mail should not be used for determining notability, nor should it be used as a source in articles." Ghmyrtle (talk) 23:31, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

ITV Network

I noticed Poulton is piped as Skippool in the settlement section of the River Wyre article. Is that correct? (I thought Skippool ended before the Mains Lane/Amounderness Way roundabout.) - NewTestLeper79talk 00:58, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
I think you're right, Skippool and Poulton are two distinct entities. Looks like it's been like that since 2007. I guess the logic was that we don't have an article about Skippool, but Skippool is briefly mentioned within the Poulton article. For what it's worth, I've replaced the pipe with a direct link to Skippool, but that's currently just a redirect to Poulton. If someone later creates an article for Skippool, the River Wyre article will already link to it. -- Dr Greg talk 01:23, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.
I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.
Forgive me for my poor English. I noticed your contributions in the titled template talk page. I used this module in this article by adding two maps for France & Italy to locate some places.
I wonder if I can use this module to show any of these maps partially (only south of France for example). Can I join two modules together (Italy + France to show the northern west of the Mediterranean Sea?.)

You need to find or create a map that shows both the south coast of France and Italy together and then create a location map module that specifies the coordinates covered by that map. Saturday Live (British TV Programme)
I saw that you had recategorised the show under "1980s British television sketch shows". It contained some sketches but it's not a sketch show. For some reason, the map that appears in the infobox of The Illawalla article isn't appearing in the article for The River House that I just created. Might you know the root of the problem? - Seasider53 (talk) 18:42, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

The |map_type= parameter hadn't been set. I've fixed it.
Boundaries can change over time, but the sign can also be interpreted as saying that Poulton is the nearest town. -- Dr Greg talk 19:00, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

I see what you mean. I hadn't compared the two articles. My suspicion is that the OpenStreetMap map gets its coordinates from Wikidata rather than English Wikipedia. For a brand new article, the corresponding Wikidata won't yet exist. I think, in time, the Wikidata will be generated automatically, although it can also be created manually. If you specify |map_type=, this overrides the OpenStreetMap map. See Template:Infobox building/doc#Mapframe maps for more information. -- Dr Greg talk 11:18, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
