NanaLamb

Hey there Davies. Excellent work on the SuperLambBanana article. I see you're having a bit of bother with the references though. Try just copy/pasting this template in the article, filling out all details.

This is the one I use whenever I cite things. Last and first are the author's name, publisher should be in italics if it's a paper (use double apostrophes each side of the word). If you can't find author name or date etc just delete that part or simply leave the space empty. Wikipedia can be an uphill battle sometimes to say the least, but you've got off to a great start! Ha ha. Thanks. The comments are obviously 'tongue in cheek' which are indicative of my sense of humour, which is a very British one! Americans generally get it lightly, the French are the main target of my jokes. Regarding my username I actually got the nickname from my PE teacher in primary school because he used to say my close ball control in football made him wonder if I was Italian! 15 years later and its well and truly stuck. Hope you had a good time in Lancaster but you really should have got down to the European Capital of Culture. Referencing in the lead

Sorry for the late response, i've been busy doing other things lately. Regarding referencing in the lead: normally it is not needed, the references provided in the article should back things up. However, if a particular point or fact in the lead seems unlikely or questionable to the reader then it might be a good idea to provide a reference. E.g. -

The superbananalamb is a sculpture. = no ref needed

The superbananalamb is the first sculpture of a lamb = ref needed

Obviously the second one is not true but you get the point. Also: Remember that the lead should only include info from the main article and not have any facts or ideas that aren't discussed elsewhere. Take care. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 18:08, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Wikipictures

Sadly that picture cannot be used because it has the "noncommercial" mark (see the icons next to where it says 'some rights reserved') See the portal HERE for pictures that can be used on wikipedia. The only sections allowed are the "Attribution" and "Attribution-Sharealike" licenses. Any pictures marked NonCommercial or No-Derivs cannot be used. Hello! I realize from the emoticon that the "one of 4 consituent countries that make up the United Kingdom" remark was written in jest, but it should be noted that Liverpool is well known among Americans (primarily because of these lads).
Out of curiosity, why do you single out Americans (as opposed to explaining Liverpool's nature for the benefit of everyone not from the UK)? —David Levy 17:11, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Haha glad you liked it. As you say it was put in completely as a joke and the only reason it is targeted at the US over others is because it is so common to here Americans confuse England and the UK. I've lost count of the number of times I've heard to Queen refered to as the Queen of England (and the not of the United Kingdom) or seen a US television programme where people from England are refered to as the British (which, whilst technically correct, as the English are by definition also British, is not something that would normally happen). Also in English humour you tend to find that the Americans are a common target for jokes, along with the French, Germans and Irish - but don't worry it's nothing personal!! :-) --Daviessimo (talk) 18:31, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Indeed, it is annoyingly common for Americans to believe that "United Kingdom" and "Great Britain" refer strictly to England (and that "British" means "English"). Just yesterday, I had to correct someone who stated that "Craig Ferguson is Scottish, not British." I've often wondered how this confusion arose, and my best guess is that it stems from the greater prevalence in American popular culture of people and things from England than of those from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. (In other words, Americans see/hear people and things from England correctly referred to as "British" and incorrectly assume that only people and things from England are British.) But that's speculation on my part.  :-) —David Levy 19:15, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

It occurs to me that another contributing factor might be the tendency of English celebrities to refer to themselves as "English" and "British" interchangeably, while other British celebrities tend not to do the latter. (The aforementioned Craig Ferguson, for example, frequently refers to himself as "Scottish," but I've never heard him refer to himself as "British." Sean Connery and Billy Connolly are other notable examples off the top of my head.) —David Levy 19:32, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Generally I think you're right about the English-British thing, mainly because the English outnumber the Welsh, Scots and Northern Irish combined, by about 5 to 1, so British history is dominated by the English. It also doesn't help that in pretty much every aspect of life, there is something that adds to the confusion, like the fact that you have both a British parliament and Scottish parliament, but no English parliament. Also in some sports we compete as individual nations (like football or cricket), yet in events such as the Olympics we compete as one. Even more confusingly in the Olympics we have the acronym GBR, which technically refers to only Scotland, Wales and England, completely forgetting Northern Ireland. Sometimes I'm suprised more people in this country don't get mixed up, let along those half way across the world! --Daviessimo (talk) 20:45, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

I recently commented on WikiProject Merseyside's talk page, essentially wondering out loud how we could get the project to produce a few GAs (at the moment most of the GAs and FAs under the project are football or Beatles related). Although I'm a member of the project, I'm not hugely familiar with Merseyside articles so since you're more familiar with the subject I was wondering what your opinions were on how the project is doing and how it can improve and your input on the project's talk page would be much appreciated (my emphasis was on GAs etc, but there are many other ways to measure success). I've also left a note on Daviessimo's talk page in an attempt to get discussion at WT:MERSEY moving (I'm tempted to message all project members, but that's probably overkill). ... I know where Liverpool is. Heck, I've even been there. Your gratuitous dig which for Americans is a big city in the North of England (Which, also for Americans is one of 4 consituent countries that make up the United Kingdom)). ;) at Americans on your user page might not be the best approach. At least not if you do not wish people to think you are so biased that your views (such as at ITN discussions about what is newsworthy) should be discounted without further consideration. Snap judgments are hard to overcome... I expect I may not be the only editor who has made a snap judgment of you today, at least subconsciously. I'll try to keep an open mind, though. Philippine jail break

I'm keeping an eye on this story for further developments- could be ITN-worthy deppending on the coverage it gets. I notice it's not had any coverage in any of the British broadsheets (Times, Guardian, Telegraph, Indy) yet. The most useful sources atm seem to be the BC and Reuters. Sorry to jump into this thread, I dont know how to create a new one. Daviessimo, I wonder if you can edit the Liverpool Governance page where it lists the Liverpool City Council wards. It says "Kensington" is a ward, but actually the name of the ward is "Kensington and Fairfield". This is verifiable within Wikipedia itself - and anyway I am one of the councillors there, so I do know! I would appreciate it if you could find time to put that right, I would not know how to do anything like that myself. Thanks very much! Listing buildings

Not sure you really needed to do this split, unless of course you intend doing something about them like fleshing them out/adding photos details etc. 132 kilobytes pales in comparison to some lists we have, List of Chinese inventions spings to mind. I personally prefer it all on one page. I also strongly recommend that the name of the building goes in the first column and the street next... Nice work on Albert Dock BTW! Well in the long run that is the plan... The main problem I saw was that in its form as a single list, it lacked any images or references. When I added a couple of references to the A section, I realised that if I do this for every section, the article size will start to balloon up and the page was already in the top 1000 largest articles. Regarding the ordering, the information was taken the city council website and they ordered it by address rather than building name, but I agree that if would be more useful to have that information on. Yeah adding references and images is likely to make it too big in kb size you;re right, especially if you plan on filling out notes on the buildings. Hopefully the lists won't be abandoned though and can be cleaned up. I see you specialise in Liverpool architecture to I think the lists are in good hands.. Keep up the good work. HI. I created Template:Location map United Kingdom Liverpool. Its for dislpaying building on like Britannia Adelphi Hotel. I thought you;d find such a map useful. If you want me to create a more central Liverpool map I'd be happy to do that as well. Please can you add this pushpin map and coordinates to articles on Liverpool landmarks. That looks really good actually. Far more detail than most maps. I presume when you add it you just input the coordinates and it does the rest. As for a more central map do you mean a smaller scale with more focus on the city centre. Its up to you, but either way it'll be a lot better than the basic co-ordinate system used now. Yes, I make the maps using set coordinates so when you enter the pin coordinates it will automatically festure in the correct location. I've just made Template:Location map United Kingdom Liverpool Central. You have the option to use that for central Liverpool buildings and the other for suburb buildings. See Cunard and Port of Liverpool Building now. Should be working, You just have to add Map_type instead of pushpin_map. If you follow my examples on others it should work, if not give me a bell. I've also made some changes to the infobox building with a cpation and new building icon pointer which I believe is an improvement. I've made a slight change, I've uploaded a more central/dock image at Liverpool Central. I've moved the map that was previously in that template into the main Liverpool locator and I moved the wider map which was originally in the plain Liverpool template into a Greater Liverpool map!! So you have three maps to play with now. United Kingdom Greater Liverpool for suburbs, United Kingdom Liverpool for general city and United Kingdom Liverpool Centre for central/docks buildings. OK? I agree that one article would have been better, but to be honest in reality it was completely unworkable. The article was already 130k and was, in that form, nothing more than a mass of writing. By splitting the article, images can be used, references added and the general layout more user friendly. Since I've started working on Listed Buildings in Liverpool-A, it has already doubled in size to 28k and its not even finished. If I did that for every section on the main article its size would balloon to probably well over 250k, which is a ridiculous size --Daviessimo (talk) 06:50, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

You know that if you follow the guidlelines to articles like Grade I listed buildings in Taunton Deane you could eventually take your Liverppol building lists to Featured list status. Merseyside to Liverpool

Hia just a quickie, pls bear in mind the ones youre changing that this has a knock on effect ie the districts band at the bottom of the page also needs to be changed etc. I dont object personally, it is just that others changed the districts to "Merseyside" a while back for some reason maybe that there was more than one in existence (Vauxhall in London for example) Babydoll9799 (talk) 09:25, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

If you look on the band at the bottom of the district page you can see the district you are looking at turns black bold. I have already changed Vauxhall have a look at the Walton one. Grade I listed buildings in Liverpool

Hi. I just noticed the Grade I listed buildings in Liverpool article you created, as I see you used my photo of Liverpool Town Hall. Thanks. Ye, getting pictures would be really useful and also for the Grade II* buildings, which I'm working on in my sandbox. The gaps in the article, as it is now, are the ones I'm missing. Liverpool F.C. wiki

Hello, I am the lead sysop on the Liverpool F.C. wiki. It is a wiki dedicated solely to Liverpool F.C.. We aim to make the ultimate database for the club we all love. Since adopting the incredibly inactive wiki about a month ago we have greatly increased the article count and modernized it from it's previous state. The problem is there are not many active members on the site and we need more for the site to properly grow. It is well organized and on it's way to be a great site we just need more editors to expand. It is based on Wikia's network of wikis. Like Wikipedia it is free to use and the editing process is exactly the same. If you know how to edit Wikipedia you will know how to edit the Liverpool F.C. wiki. Now for the question you may be asking yourself. Why edit there? Wikipedia has articles on Liverpool. This is true. At the Liverpool wiki it is all about Liverpool. We allow editors to edit anything about Liverpool no matter how trivial. We allow edits on reserve and academy players, and even things as trivial as the fitness coaches for the year 2011. We also do not lock pages to registered users. That means if you have something to say about Steven Gerrard you can click edit and not view source and actually write something. Help Me

Like your wiki pages on super lamb bananas, I knew nothing about them before my daughter mentioned them a few months ago but think they really great. My daughter is at uni in Liverpool; she finishes this year and she has asked me for a ceramic one which I have found online. I've also seen a larger resin one for sale and the person selling it says it was purchased as part of a job lot sold by Liverpool council who had about 100 surplus to requirements. Are you aware of these as the ones I've seen seem pretty rare? Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing.
