Userboxes[edit]

If anyone out there makes userboxes, I was wondering if you could make some for me or teach me how to make my own. Thanks. --David7581 04:41, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have made a simple userbox (well, all userboxes are simple) here. If you click 'edit this page', you will see the source of the userbox, which is the base to your own userbox. Simply replace the different variables in the template, according to Wikipedia:Userboxes#How_to_construct_the_box. If you need more help, ask me. Posting on my talk page will be more effective - since I will receive a notification. Cheers.

Thanks for that. I think I got it down pretty good. I took your idea, and just played around with it and previewed a lot to see what I changed each time, so I think I'll be alright now. --David7581 21:24, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hello. want to be adopted?[edit]

hello david.

I would not mind adopting you- and I think I can teach you how to make userboxes too. Check out WP:Userboxes though, if you haven't already. They have some useful tips on adding or creating userboxes.

Sure, that would be fine. I have done a good number of contributions, but still am pretty new. Anyway, you're welcome to adopt. --David7581 14:41, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I changed my user page to state the adoption. I've seen the page on the userboxes, but am still unsure of the basics. --David7581 20:13, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will try my best to guide you through creating a userbox. However I would not be awfully active in the next few weeks due to my vacation.
Arthuralee 15:18, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. --David7581 18:41, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

I followed a vandal and undid three of their edits, but I don't know how to report them or take any other action against the user. The user was using this unregistered IP address. Can someone please tell me how to take action? Thank you. --David7581 03:11, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can go to WP:AIV and list that user following the instructions there. An admin should take care of it shortly after you report them. T Rex | talk 16:30, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Diacritics[edit]

Here we decided to use place names with diacritics and player names without. T Rex | talk 16:29, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the help. --David7581 16:39, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There was no 'such' agreement. There was no consensus, to 'hide' or 'unhide'. It was unresolved. GoodDay 23:17, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'd recommend you (David7581) restore the 'diacritics' to the birthplaces. If you don't, it may start another 'heated discussion'. Let the pro-diacritics editors, have their way ('cause they usually do [have their way]). GoodDay 23:36, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
All fixed. Not trying to cause problems, just saw someone else had done it somewhere, and was unaware of the discussion at the time. No hard feelings? --David7581 03:01, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I personally would prefer 'no diacritics'. However, after a long struggle, I've decided to 'throw in the towel' (see: Wikipedia talk: WikiProject Ice Hockey for the 'old' diacritics discussions). GoodDay 18:39, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

page needs fixing?[edit]

I can fix up your page if you like. But it depends how you want your page to like.

Thanks, but I guess I put it up a little prematurely. I still haven't really decided on how I want it to look yet. But I guess for starters, I don't really know what to mention there besides what I've covered with the userboxes, which you may have noticed I've really worked at. --David7581 05:22, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Of them, 20 are featured lists, one is a featured article, and the other three are trophy articles that were too short to become featured lists. Eight users signed up to help out, shown here. The next Featured Topic hasn't been decided upon, and the ideas and organization for it fell apart. If you have any ideas, don't hesitate to share them at WT:HOCKEY.

Notes
  • More editors are needed to help out with the newsletter. The newsletter creator doesn't have an infinite nor perfect supply of ideas, and thus he might omit some interesting news.
  • Portal:Ice hockey is being considered for featured status.
  • Should Chris Pronger have been suspended for more than eight games for stomping on Ryan Kesler? Vote here!
  • Help Patrik Stefan -- one of the greatest NHL draft busts -- become a GA status article.

Adrianne Wadewitz Memorial edit-a-thons[edit]

Adrianne Wadewitz edit-a-thons in Southern New England

As you may have already heard, the Wikipedia community lost an invaluable member of the community last month. Adrianne Wadewitz was a feminist scholar of 18th-Century British literature, and a prolific editor of the site. As part of a worldwide series of tributes, New England Wikimedians, in conjunction with local institutions of higher learning, have created three edit-a-thons that will be occurring in May and June. The events are as follows:

We hope that you will be able to join us, whether you are an experienced editor or are using Wikipedia for the first time.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
