the Public Policy Initiative Assessment Team wants You!

Hi Courcelles, I saw some of your contributions on an article that falls within the scope of Wikiproject: United States Public Policy, and I was hoping you would be interested in assessing articles with the Public Policy Initiative. There is more info about assessment on the 9/13/2010 Signpost. If you're interested or just curious you can sign up on the project page or just contact me. Thanks! ARoth (Public Policy Initiative) (talk) 22:42, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Courcelles, welcome to the Public Policy Initiative Assessment Team. I am excited to get started, the discussion of project details will be on the [WP:USPP/Assessment Talk page]. ARoth (Public Policy Initiative) (talk) 22:04, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Caesar salad ip edit warrior/troll

The protection can probably be removed. After you applied it they continued leaving nasty messages and actually began demanding to be blocked. I acquiesced to those demands and blocked them for a week. Beeblebrox (talk) 00:26, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Done, let's see what happens. Courcelles 08:44, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Help???

Could use some of your professional advice here on WP:ANI#Threat to conduct to massive attack by IP???, thanks. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 08:49, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Someone revoked their talk page access, not much else we can do for now. Revert, block, and ignore if the person decides to make a nuisance of themselves after the block. Courcelles 09:00, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Thinking in opposite directions.

When you changed the "Spam & Username" block message template protection from semi to full, I noticed you provided the summary "This probibly ought to be fully protected; used by substitution, so transclusion count is somewhat lower than usual". Just to give you my opinion, I would have thought it would be vice versa. Also, I don't think that template is going to be a high-risk target of vandalism (I'm not even including the template name since you know it already). mechamind90 00:33, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Since it is used by substitution- and usually by Twinkle; (I've used it a couple hundred times and I've no idea what its name is), and the admin who is using it is very unlikely to bother to read it, there is a pretty significant risk of something going wrong. I might consider dropping it to semi, but you're going to have to link me to the actual template, since I don't know where it is located, and my logs are far too long to dig through. Why did you delete Michelle Buckman?

Michelle Buckman has been credited with initiating a new genre of Christian fiction called grit-lit. She is also, as of Oct 1, the author of the first contemporary Catholic women's fiction, for Catholics by a Catholic author published by a Catholic publishing house (as opposed to self-published work.) She is an international speaker and writing workshop instructor, and well respected in the CBA market. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rpgking4 (talkcontribs) 00:02, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Restored as a contested WP:PROD, though without sources, it is very likely to get deleted again. Courcelles 00:09, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

I've added a reply. Nergaal (talk) 13:07, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

I was just wondering if you still oppose the merge proposal. Nergaal (talk) 00:55, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Question about - GAM - Great American Market - Gamproducts, Inc. - deletion

I am assuming that you feel there were not enough references for the presentation of this article? Could you please inform me of the reason for deleting this article so I can make sure to abide by the wikirules. I do have many more references for the description of the GAMPRODUCTS, INC. company.

Thank you, JNT6 —Preceding unsigned comment added by JNT6 (talkcontribs) 17:30, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

What I deleted, GAM - Great American Market - Gamproducts, Inc., was merely a redirect to the actual page you are concerned about, GAM - Great American Market. Redirects are useless after the target is deleted, but in this case, the target, and the admin who actually decided to delete your article, is Bearcat (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA), and they are who you would need to discuss the actual deletion with. It was deleted because of being blatant advertising, a determination that, at a glance, I'd have to say seems correct. Courcelles 17:35, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for the response —Preceding unsigned comment added by JNT6 (talkcontribs) 21:33, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Why did you delete the only Korean metal band to be featured in international press (metal hammer)

You deleted fatalfear...why?

They are the only metal band from korea's scene (that is struggling to be noticed) that were featured in the long running magazine. if you looked at the image scan featured on their article you could see they were featured and are now being featured in an upcoming issue of power play.

LINK: http://www.powerplaymagazine.co.uk/underground/56-fatalfear.html

...they do not sell music outside of korea, only internally hand to hand and on korean internet, in korean. They have worked hard to bring attention to the korean scene via promotion, thir free label, collaboration with other mucicans (in progress) and their features.

I cant believe that you deleted that page on the grounds of advertizing.

How is one of the first and only Korean metal bands to become noticed against the rules of wikipedia, i thought that would be the case and point of this page? (wiki)

Shame on you. I suppose only "rolling stone" a "pay to be featured" magazine is ok in your eyes and hard working independant artists and organizations who are counter culture have no place breathing in your eyes.

I formally request this page be reinstated, many people edited the page over the last several months it was up, not one as you accuse with no basis or proof. Many people edited it, I know this as I was monitoring it. Frankly the reason the vocalist created the page was to add a mark of notice for his band and the entire korean scene. Not to sell his band that started their own non profit label for band in diverse locations to release music as they are not seeking such things, but to add to the culture of korea and show the diversity of korean culture to the world.

Thanks for deleting this page (sarcasm)

The vocalist is currently in hospital due to spinal imjury from performances and several car crashes and I would like to take it upon myself to repeat that i find it discgusting this page was deleted.

What in your eyes makes a worthwhile page on wikipeda? "one of many" or the "first" to open the gates? with any luck and people like you, we will all be listening to radio friendly corporate clones that are the std. issue top 40 of legal music, while the rest is illegal.

please show that your a reasonable person and return this page, i apologise for my accusations but i am part of this scene and some bands have been playing almost 15 years and barely made it out of korea let alone asia. this scene needs notice but there seems to be blocked attempts at every turn, despite fanbases.

Short answer, I deleted the article based on consensus of participants at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/FatalFear. The long answer is that we have a requirement for reliable, independent sources for every article. Looking at the last version prior to deletion (Deleted edits are still visible to administrators), I see 15 citations, almost exclusively Myspace, Last.fm, or record company promotional sites. None of this qualifies as the reliable, significant coverage we needed to see in order to maintain the article. Courcelles 03:53, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Draft lists

Hey. Just curious which ones you're planning on doing that we have left; this way if i start one I'm not duplicating anything you're doing. I'll probably just wrap up the AL lists, which may take longer than I originally expected. I haven't had time recently to get those wrapped up. Suzannah B. Troy

Cirt has deleted the article about Suzannah B. Troy ? Courcelles had relisted this article for deletion on Friday. Cirt deleted this page before edits and rewrites could be made. If Cirt would have read the citations, which I kept emphasising, Cirt would have seen that there were other citations that mentioned the individual, not just The New York Daily News article. Can I request that the page be returned for further edits until Friday ? I left a similar comment on Cirt's page, too. --Maslowsneeds (talk) 03:43, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

That's going to have to be Cirt's ball-o-wax, as I didn't actually delete the article, all I can really do is point you towards Cirt's talk page or Deletion Review. Courcelles 03:45, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

re: articles from pay-to-read-complete-article websites

Hi Courcelles! :-) I noticed an article that lists an article that is "for Paid Subscribers ONLY" as a resource. It shows the first couple of paragraphs, but to view the rest, you need to be a paying member. Is this accepted as a resources? The metioned resource comes from www.bizjournals.com (Boston Business Journal). Thanks! ~dee 17:36, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

It's as acceptable as anything else; for instance a book or a journal. All sources are not required to be freely available online, only that enough information be provided to verify the citation, even if this requires a trip to the library. (NB: I've answered generally, if you want me to take a look at this source specifically, please ask). Courcelles 17:37, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
Bah! You're so fast! ;-D The article in question is Core Security, it would seem promotional at first and most of the resources used are from the original website, except for 4, and 2 or 3 of those are pay-to-view. I am not familiar with the websites, so I'm not even sure if they're paid-for articles. ~dee 17:44, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your help!

Thanks for your help with Catholicism I caught it when reverting mutiple times in a few weeks, since the Pending Changes/Reviewers program is over - This was the only option. Thanks again! --WolfnixTalk • 18:18, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Um, thanks, but the wolves might eat my Chihuahua ;) I'm somewhat concerned the nonsense might spread over to Catholic Church, and that might end up semi-protected, but given that article is right on the line of needing it anyway, it may not be that terrible of a result. Courcelles 19:12, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks - One more please

Thanks for getting rid of the edits on my talk page by a disruptive user - could you please do the same to one more which is still visible - Thanks again Vrenator (talk) 20:01, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:30, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Hello!

Just to say it might be worthwhile looking into this users talk page activity. Now that they've been blocked they're still vandalising but only their talk page? Happening pretty much constantly :) --5 albert square (talk) 00:01, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks :) Talk page access revoked. Courcelles 00:39, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
You're welcome :) --5 albert square (talk) 01:10, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Purely nosy question

This is the first time I've seen RevDel in the watchlist so was just curious. When you deleted the revision of "Sarah" under WP:RD3 just now, was that edit significantly different from the blocked user's other 3 edits? Because if not, wouldn't the other 3 edits also need deleting due to gross offensiveness that may target a recognizable party? No reason for asking other than the curiosity. JJB 05:03, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

There was a significant difference in the details, not sure how much more I could really say on-wiki. Courcelles 12:11, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

RE

Very much so. Was checking my watchlist and was opening up articles in different tabs. I hit rollback by mistake when my browser froze up. I thought I undid the edit, must have not went through. That happens to me alot.--WillC 21:09, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
