Sources for Coat of arms of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham

If you didn't notice, there are two reference notes in the article Coat of arms of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The information is from those two sources. Should I have put them after every sentence to make it clearer? Arms Jones (talk) 23:09, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

  • Thanks Arms Jones, and sorry to have caused any confusion. Traditionally (at least from what I've seen in DYK), every paragraph has to have at least one citation. Unsourced paragraphs are likely to be challenged, but thanks for notifying me through here. The template I added asks for more citations. Thanks again and happy holidays, ComputerJA () 04:39, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Autodefensas

It seems that we don't have any articles on the Grupos de Autodefensa that have proliferated throughout Mexico, especially in Michoacan and Guerrero over the past couple of year in repsonse to Drug violence. Would you be interested in creating such an article? The article on the Knights Templar Cartel also needs badly an update to reflect the events in Michoacan since August.User:Maunus ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 18:29, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

  • User:Maunus, you're right. I had not thought about creating an article about them; I was mostly thinking about updating the KTC and the Mexican Drug War articles. But with school now on my back, I've slowed down with the editing lately, and mostly focused on doing research for biographies (I'm thinking of promoting El Chapo's article to GA sometime this semester after a complete write-up). I've been closely watching the news on the vigilante groups since they emerged on February 2013, so I'll just need to go back and re-read some of the articles and get started sometime this week. What names do you think would be appropriate? I'm thinking of something like Vigilantism in Michoacán and/or Vigilantism in Guerrero, but feel free to give other options. I just noticed that Spanish Wikipedia has an article: Grupos de Autodefensa Comunitaria. The names I've seen are "Grupos de Autodefensa" and "Policías Comunitarias", however. [1] ComputerJA () 18:46, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
I just created an article for José Manuel Mireles Valverde as a start. :) I think maybe Self-defense militias in the Mexican Drug War would be a more precise title, since the "self defense" aspect is usually the focus more than vigilantism. Vigilantism might also include other kinds of action. I think it makes most sense to have a general article on the phenomenon in all of Mexico (they also exist in Jalisco for example). And then daughter articles could be spun out for the different states. The general article could also describe the difference between those groups that work under usos y costumbres in indigenous communities, and those that primarily work in response to drug violence. By the way no hurry, I also have a ton of work. I just thought I would share the idea with you, I didnt mean to pressure you. User:Maunus ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 18:52, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
Awesome, just added Mireles to my Watchlist. And don't worry, you didn't hurry me at all. My plan for this week was to update Rogelio González Pizaña's article (he was sentenced yesterday, and updating it won't take me that long). Besides that, I don't have much to do. Can't wait to get back to something new like this, so thanks for the idea. ComputerJA () 19:18, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Feedback needed on using special characters

Hello. Thank you for using VisualEditor! Having editors use it is the best way for the Wikimedia Foundation to develop it into the best tool it can be.

While we always welcome general feedback (please report any issues in Bugzilla in the "VisualEditor" product or drop your feedback on the central feedback page on MediaWiki.org), the developers are especially interested right now in feedback on the special character inserter. This new tool is used for inserting special characters (including symbols like , IPA pronunciation symbols, mathematics symbols, and characters with diacritics). It is intended to help people whose computers do not have good character inserters. For example, many Mac users prefer to use the extensive "Special Characters..." tool present at the bottom of the Edit menu in all applications or to learn the keyboard shortcuts for characters like ñ and ü.

The current version of the special characters tool in VisualEditor is very simple and very basic. It will be getting a lot of work in the coming weeks and months. It does not contain very many character sets at this time. (The specific character sets can be customized at each Wikipedia, so that each project could have a local version with the characters it wants.) But the developers want your ideas at this early stage about ways that the overall concept could be improved. I would appreciate your input on this question, so please try out the character inserter and tell me what changes to the design would (or would not!) best work for you.

Screenshot of the Insert menu in VisualEditor
The "insert" pulldown on the task bar of VisualEditor will lead you to the '⧼visualeditor-specialcharacterinspector-title⧽' tool.
Screenshot of Special Characters tool
This is the ⧼visualeditor-specialcharacterinspector-title⧽ inserter as it appears on many wikis. (Some may have customized it.) Your feedback on this tool is particularly important.

Issues you might consider:

  • How often do you normally use Wikipedia's character inserters?
  • Which character sets are useful to you? Should it include all 18 of the character sets provided in the wikitext editor's newer toolbar at the English Wikipedia, the 10 present in the older editor toolbar, or some other combination of character sets?
  • How many special characters would you like to see at one time?
    • Should there be a "priority" or "favorites" section for the 10 or 12 characters that most editors need most often? Is it okay if you need an extra click to go beyond the limited priority set?
    • How should the sections be split up? Should they be nested? Ordered?
    • How should the sections be navigated? Should there be a drop-down? A nested menu?
  • The wikitext editor has never included many symbols and characters, like and . Do you find that you need these missing characters? If the character inserter in VisualEditor includes hundreds or thousands of special characters, will it be overwhelming? How will you find the character you want? What should be done for users without enough space to display more than a few dozen characters?
  • Should the character inserter be statically available until dismissed? Should it hover near the mouse? Should it go away on every selection or 10 seconds after a selection with no subsequent ones?
  • Some people believe that the toolbar already has too many options—how would you simplify it?

The developers are open to any thoughts on how the special character inserter can best be developed, even if this requires significant changes. Please leave your views on the central feedback page, or, if you'd prefer, you can contact me directly on my talk page. It would be really helpful if you can tell me how frequently you need to use special characters in your typical editing and what languages or other special characters are important to you.

Thank you again for your work with VisualEditor and for any feedback you can provide. I really do appreciate it.

P.S. You might be interested in the current ideas about improving citations, too. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 00:20, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

hello JA long time no see friend I am writing to you because I am in need of help. First of all I would like to tell you that I am a huge fan of Marco Antonio Solis, Los Bukis, and Los Mismos. I uploaded a picture of Los Mismos using my phone and put it as a recording album because the picture can be found inside Juntos Para Siempre. Theres a user named magician dude who's real name is Eric. That dude flagged the picture and said I need to find a public domain site, I have also written a reason on the dispute. any way long story short can you find a picture of Los Mismos with the original members of Los Bukis and paste on the image section of the article it would be really awesome if you could. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Joaquín Guzmán Loera, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Macmillan (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Hey ComputerJA, can you double check your edit HERE? It seems the version prior to your edit was correct. The cite given doesn't mention the United States at all, thus the amount offered for El Chapo ($87M pesos MN/~$7.6M US) was offered by the Mexican government alone. The US government offered an additional reward of $5M USD for its capture, per "Some of the men, such as suspected Pacific cartel leaders Joaquin Guzman and Ismael Zambada, are targeted by separate $5 million reward offers from the U.S. government" HERE. Perhaps you have a diferent cite that states teh $87 is the total from Mexican and US governmnets? Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 00:50, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Mercy11, thanks for consulting my talkpage. My understanding was that the USA offered US$5 million (around $63 million pesos), while Mexico offered $30 million pesos (around US$2.5 million). Total bounty between both governments would be at US$7.5 million, according to this source. Sorry for my careless mistake—this is what happens when I have several tabs open on my laptop. Do you think you can find a source from the government (not the media) with the actual bounty? Thanks, ComputerJA () 01:13, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
I wouldn't go by something Univision just put up dated today. It would not be the first time a news organization has consulted Wikipedia to fill in empty gaps in a story - specially their online versions which do not always go thru the same rigorous editorial control that a printed version goes through.
In any event, I would go with the cite I sent you because it is older...has stood the test of time. At a minimum, if I were you, I would put up a note that states a discrepancy in the amounts. A third option is to just leave it out altogether until multiple, solid cites can be found tilting the balance (That is, have it read "The most wanted of the 37 drug lords was Joaquín Guzmán Loera., for whom Mexico offered a reward of 87 million Mexican pesos ($7.6 million US dollars) before his capture on 22 February 2014." - Without the strikethru, of course.)
BTW, I found the cite I sent you from an older version of the article I edited years ago, so I knew the cite was good.
I would dig further into this myself, but haven't got the time until at least tomorrow, and most likely until much later in the week- have real life commitments. So if you don't beat me to it first, I will look into it as my time permits. Take care, Mercy11 (talk) 01:31, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough. Thank you for your concerns. I'll be mostly working offline to update the article, so you'll probably bet me. Have a great start of the week, ComputerJA () 01:34, 24 February 2014 (UTC)

Chapo guzman NEVER attempted to grab an AK

I edited Joaquín Guzmán Loera's article adding that he never attempted to grab an AK-47 he had close to him and you removed my changes stating that:

None of the sources i provided say he did not attempt to grab the weapon, both of the sources i provided obtained their article from Associated Press and have this line in common:

"Guzmán tenía un fusil de asalto en su habitación, pero no trató de tomarlo."

that line means:

Guzman had an assault rifle in his room, but he did not attempted to grab it.

this are the sources i provided:

Benjamin Galvan Gomez

Hi, I really don't know much about Benjamin Galvan Gomez but here is an update on who killed Benjamin and how he was killed. proceso.com.mx: Desertor del Ejército implicado en crimen de exalcalde de Nuevo Laredo (Proceso). The Weird part of all this a day before his kidnapping El Mañana reported this Hallan irregularidades en manejos de Benjamín Galván. Back then my opinion was he faked his kidnapping. Its also kind of strange that no one ever released photos of the bodies like they do with everyone else. BTW I'm from Laredo, Texas not Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. Hope this info helps. Here'sa little bit more on his career "El empresario y director general de los periódicos Primera y Ultima Hora, también trabajó como Catedrático de la UAT y fue presidente de la Cruz Roja y la Casa del Migrante. Lucero singer personal life

sup man how are you. I was wondering if you can fix my source on Lucero's personal life. I sourced it using the link and I would like for you to source it by the number the section explains that in Jan. of 2014 a photo was leaked to the media, she was posing with her boyfriend in front of a dead elephant. since then she has not been on TV. if you are able to help thanks I hope you are well. Sc30002001 (talk)

  • Sc30002001: I fixed the sources, but I also added some changes. For example, the photo was not of a dead elephant. It is another animal. In addition, we don't know if the animal was dead. Lucero claimed the animal was under sedation. We need to be very careful about this. I also erased the Univision claim because it was not mentioned in the original source. The original source was replaced because I didn't consider it reliable because it is an open source. Cheers, ComputerJA () 19:38, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

It's cool I just wondered why she wasn't on TV the question came to mind because her ex-husband Mijares sings the song on De que te quiero, te quiero. Thank you. *Sc30002001

  • Sc30002001: No problem. If you find a source mentioning that fact about Univision, let me know. Cheers, ComputerJA () 00:37, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

Dates

sup man I have a question. why does every article have the day before the month?? I changed Cristiano Ronaldo's birth day to February 5,1985 and some dude kept changing it. the article says 5 February and quite frankly its gotten on my nerves. I just wanted to know. the dude sent me a format list but I don't understand it. sc30002001

  • sc30002001: Both formats are acceptable for Wikipedia. But given that the dates throughout Cristiano's article are already found with the day first, it is usually considered "bad manners" to change them without consensus. Let me know if you have more questions. ComputerJA () 22:04, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

  • Thank you for consulting my talkpage and for bringing this to my attention. I'll be pretty busy tomorrow watching the World Cup games and traveling, but I'll get back to you and update the article once I can get a hold of my laptop again. I'll notify Maunus (the creator of the article) about your concerns, and if you want we can work on the article together in the future. I've been doing outside research on other Mexican Drug War players that I've left the Michoacán crisis on the sidelines for a bit. Thanks again! ComputerJA () 05:52, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
The article needs an update to take into account his expulsion from the autodefensa movement and current status as an outside critic. It should be possible now to write articles on Estanislao Beltran and Hipolito Mora as well. There should be plenty of sources.User:Maunus ·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 21:57, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

POW and the Mexican Drug War Response

ComputerJA

The reason why I put the POWs on the drug lords is because there is a war going on between the Mexican armed forces and the drug lords. I will work on the links on why some of the drug lords were labeled as POWs. I appreciate the feedback from you. • DavidHeshWalker: Thanks for consulting my talkpage. I understand that, but have you found reliable sources that call them prisoners of war? A quick Google search convinces me there isn't. ComputerJA () 06:14, 11 July 2014 (UTC)
  • ComputerJA: You were right. There was no such thing as prisoner of wars in Mexican Drug War. My Fault. I would take back what I said about working on the links. Anyway, I have fixed the editing on prisoner of wars on drug lords to captured on drug lords. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DavidHeshWalker (talkcontribs) 07:44, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Arellano Félix may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • Félix''' is a surname that may pertain to several individuals involved with the [[Tijuana Cartel]] (also known as the Arellano Félix Organization}.

list 2014 FIFA World cup controversies

Hello JA I was hoping you could add the Germany VS. Argentina game to the list of controversy. German Keeper Manuel Neuer hit Gonzalo Higuain as he was defending the ball. I am leaving a link for source but im not sure if you find it acceptable. please source by the numbers thank you. the referee should have marked a penalty Kick in favor of Argentina and many people said Neuer should have gotten the red card. There is also a picture online that says Si era penal. http://www.itv.com/news/update/2014-07-13/foul-given-against-higuain-after-goalkeeper-collision/
