Dreamcast[edit]

As you may have noticed, I have reverted your edits to Dreamcast. This is not in any way to prevent you from editing it or anything, but simply because the edits did not improve (and in fact slightly damaged) the article. So as to avoid any further edit-reverts, I thought I'd discuss it. So as to keep this concise etc, I'll post separate points with separate edits. Quotation[edit]

Your first edit, the addition of the quotation, was not detrimental in itself, but it didn't really add anything to the article. Quotations should be used sparingly, if at all, if paraphrasing is not sufficient to convey the sentiment; they should not be included simply for the sake of it. The quote you added appears to have dealt with the Sega Saturn, rather than the Dreamcast - while the Saturn is relevant to the article and the creation of the Dreamcast, it should only be over to such an extent as to give the Dreamcast's conception context. A quote such as that might be appropriate if it also contrasted the Dreamcast with the Saturn, but as it was, it wasn't really relevant. It was an important quote. Bernie Stolar's lack of confidence with the Saturn was what influenced the creation of the Dreamcast. The quote shows his opinions of the older console more than "The Saturn is not our [Sega's] future.", which this is too brief.--Capsoul (talk) 17:00, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't deny that and there are certainly ways in which it could be worked into the article, it's just that in the context it really isn't necessary. Simply sticking it at the beginning doesn't add to the readers understanding of the topic and is in fact likely to cause confusion, especially since it isn't mentioned in the prose. For an example of how it could work, take the part where he says "It was too difficult to develop for therefore the games were not fun and the games weren't there." - that could probably be worked in in relation to a bit talking about the Dreamcast's ease of development (although doing so would probably be a synthesis and therefore a policy violation, but you get the general idea). You should also bear in mind that the Dreamcast article doesn't really go that in-depth on the development and origins - that's done in History of the Dreamcast (which is linked at the top of the "History" section on the DC page), so it may be suitable to put the quote in there somewhere, probably in the "Origins & Design" section in relation to why the Saturn was discontinued so quickly (anything else would probably be synthesis again, although it'd have to be seen on a case-by-case basis to tell for sure). If you do do that then the main text should be expanded to take it into account. Also, the quote does not have to be separate from the main text if it works as part of it. Hope this helps. Splitting to "Launch"[edit]

This, again, is not something that is necessarily detrimental, but in this case it is. Splitting launches up into Japan and other regions may well be appropriate, but in this case there just isn't enough info about any of them to justify their own section. Also note, that you split it into "Japan" and "North America", but the "North America" section also contained info about Europe and Australia in the first sentence (and probably throughout - I didn't give it a thorough read). I would say that given the amount that is written about each that, at most, the different regions' launches might deserve their own paragraph, but certainly not their own heading. Hello again. I have reverted your edit to History of the Dreamcast and I thought I should explain. First of all, the image is non-free so requires a fair use rationale to be used on a page - for more info on this, see Wikipedia:Non-free content. Also, without one it will be auto-deleted after 7 days from when it was uploaded. On to the use in the article itself, non-free images may only be used, as I said,when there is some rationale for their inclusion - they must show something that significantly improves the readers understanding of the subject and cannot be replaced with free images. Thanks for uploading File:Googletvlogo.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

Yes, I can understand this as the CMYK colours of my image are not the printout versions as stated by the articles. But, the RGB combinations seem to suit them better as they are not mixed by other colours that do not make them.
As for the image itself, I really think it should be replaced. Because frankly, it looks unprofessional and unsuitable. I would be happy to change the colours of my diagram to suit this one. --Capsoul (talk) 01:30, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
First, “RGB combinations” are entirely unacceptable. As for your image replacement, (a) Your newer version still has poor color choices, (b) the prior image to my eye looks better – what do you find “unprofessional” about it? (c) the prior image is a vector image, whereas your version is raster – why? (d) why did you make the change as a minor edit? –jacobolus (t) 04:41, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I did the change the colours of my image to match with the prior one. But, it keeps showing the older image with the RGB combinations in the article. I also do not know how to save an SVG file. --Capsoul (talk) 10:39, 16 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Unfinished creative work" to "Unfinished Work"[edit]

Hello, I undid your page move of "Unfinished creative work" to "Unfinished Work" as per WP:CAPS which states, in part, "For page titles, always use lowercase after the first word, and do not capitalize second and subsequent words, unless the title is a proper noun." "Unfinished Work", in this situation, does not appear to be a proper noun therefore it goes against the accepted guideline. If you have any questions or comments you can reach me at my talk page.
