Disambiguation link notification for March 6[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Thomas W. Bennett (conscientious objector), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Citadel (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

PSU vs. Ohio[edit]

Are you planning on writing a preliminary game summary for this one? I can help if necessary. Go Phightins! (talk) 18:15, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I never turn down help! Bob305 (talk) 18:38, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you start it, I'll just add stats on players and some notable plays. But go ahead and get it started. Come on Lions! Pull it out! Go Phightins! (talk) 18:40, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Some PSU player articles I started[edit]

Hey, just a heads up in case you wanted to help edit or improve (which they all need, especially Robinson) some of the PSU player articles I created. Thus far I have Gerald Hodges, Paul Jones (American football), Bill Belton, and Alan Robinson. I have a pretty quick process I can go through (about 20-30 min.) if you can think of any other PSU guys who deserve articles, let me know, I'm watching your talk page. Additionally, on the season page I couldn't figure out how to link the articles in the table, so I just wanted to see if you knew how to do that. Sorry for the rambling, have a good day. Go Phightins! (talk) 00:09, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you just asked, but take a look at the table. If you click on September 1 or September 8, it now links to the game summaries below. Is that what you are asking? Let me know.
My other interest is baseball and I've been updating the game logs for the Phillies most games since mid June. Others are writing the summaries. I completely forgot about today's day game as I have a full teaching (high school) schedule on Wednesday afternoons. I need to add today's game log momentarily. Bob305 (talk) 02:48, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In the roster section, the only players who have blue links to their Wikipedia articles are Matt McGloin, Michael Mauti and Paul Jones. I can't figure out how to create blue links to the Wikipedia pages of Robinson, Belton, and Hodges. Go Phightins! (talk) 20:39, 6 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I used the code ("|rs=y|link=y") that was after McGloin's name on the roster and it worked for the other 3. I don't really understand what it stands for, but it works now. Bob305 (talk) 01:10, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Go Phightins! (talk) 02:01, 7 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're right[edit]

My fault, you're correct that it occurred in the fourth...it is pouring and thundering here too, I'm worried I might lose the game too. Go Phightins! (talk) 18:50, 8 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Whaddya think?[edit]

What do you think of the way I formatted the stats for the Illinois game. It's more similar to how the nfl teams' season pages look (e.g., 2012 Philadelphia Eagles season.) As you and I seem to be the primary contributors of content on this page, I figured I'd get your opinion. Let me know. I just thought it'd be something to try to make it more visually appealing and easy to read. Go Phightins! (talk) 02:37, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What about making the information hidden, but easily accessible with the "hide/show" feature? I like stats, but I do know that too much information at one time can be overwhelming for some people. Bob305 (talk) 02:42, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good thought. I'll try to work on that tomorrow, but tonight I'm headed to the rack. Thanks for the suggestion. Go Phightins! (talk) 02:52, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
How's it look? Go Phightins! (talk) 21:48, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good; only criticism is to distinguish at Illinois for an away game or vs. Northwestern for a home game. Bob305 (talk) 22:17, 2 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
will do--thanks for the input--Go Phightins! (talk) 01:27, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PSU this week[edit]

I am going to be camping on Saturday, and as such will not be around to watch (and update 2013 Penn State Nittany Lions football team) on the progress of the game. If you happen to be around and wouldn't mind doing so, I would really appreciate it. I will be back Sunday afternoon and should have time to write some prose summary. Tonight's game[edit]

I picked a good one to go to! Got some great pictures that I'll upload in the next few days -- got a few of Ken Giles, and finally Ben Revere in a Phillies uniform! Go Phightins! 03:36, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good for you! I changed the TV station when they were down 4–1; my brother came in later and said, "You can turn it on now; they're winning." So dummy me, I missed the most exciting part.
If you get a chance, can you check out my WP:NOR comments on the Joe Pittman and Talk:Joe Pittman#date of death pages. I'm a peaceful guy and don't want to edit war, but I can use some advice, if I'm following procedure/policy correctly or not.

PSU 2014[edit]

Hey Bob, I don't know if you'll be around Saturday morning to watch PSU and UCF, but if you are and wouldn't mind updating the game box with pertinent information as the game progresses, that'd be great. I set up the section for the game as we did last year, and wrote the preview, but won't be around for the game itself, as we are headed to Ocean City, MD this weekend for the holiday. Looking forward to a great season. We are! Go Phightins! 21:37, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see what I can do. My volunteer fireman brother has a pancake breakfast at the firehouse starting at 7 AM so I should be home for the game. And enjoy OC! the same brother planned a summer vacation trip there for us a month ago! Good times & good memories. Bob305 (talk) 08:24, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was still at the firehouse when the game started so I didn't get the temperature (and weather) at kickoff, but I was able to update the 1st half scoring en masse (as opposed to play-by-play). I was looking back at last year and noticed (1) some games had first and last name of each play-maker throughout (2) other games had first and last names of play-makers at the first reference and just the last name at all subsequent mentions. I edited in the form of the former. I was unable to get names of the officiating crew (referee), but will be looking; I do know that they were from UCF's conference. Thanks for the opportunity! Bob305 (talk) 16:08, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Bob, I think I have everything in there now. If you want to copyedit my game description or make sure I didn't monumentally misrepresent anything/screw it up as you watched the game and I didn't, please do. Look forward to working with you for the remainder of the season :-) Go Phightins! 22:34, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good! Initially, I was a little confused with the line "taking only three plays to drive 72 yards for a touchdown, scoring via a 79-yard pass from Hackenberg to Geno Lewis," but when I went back and looked at the play-by-play, I noticed there was a 9-yard sack involved in the drive. ... And how about those Phils today? Bob305 (talk) 00:31, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately we were stuck in traffic while the game was going on, so I heard about it after the fact, but that's something! Go Phightins! 01:33, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Rogers McKee[edit]

Hi Bob305. Thanks for your attention. I added recently an image file and a footer to the article {*) Cheers. MusiCitizen (talk) 21:25, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your edits! I tend to edit mostly baseball (Phillies) pages, but that branches out as I'm looking at opposing pitchers' pages moving back year-by-year. Right now, I just finished 1983 and will move back to 1982 shortly. I usually look at recent deaths of Americans also. Bob305 (talk) 13:06, 10 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week[edit]

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week, for your tireless work and exceptional technical skill. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Go Phightins! submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate User:Bob305 as Editor of the Week for tireless work managing the technical/maintenance end of sports articles, specifically season articles for the Penn State Nittany Lions and Philadelphia Phillies. As one who writes a lot of the content for those articles, having Bob around to handle the templates, stat boxes, etc., as well as to occasionally copyedit, revise, and make better what I write is terrific both for me and for readers. His penchant for excellence in filtering out any editorialism that sneaks its way into what I write, fixing typos and mistakes that only he can recognize because he watched the game too, etc. quite simply makes the articles on which we collaborate much more professional, and much more accurate. The fact that he does it without expecting any recognition – he rarely ventures out of the article namespace – confirms to me that he is exactly the type of editor we set out to begin recognizing at EotW, and is a highly deserving recipient. Oh, and by the way, he single-handedly updates the statistics for every Phillies' player on an almost daily basis, and in his free time, he works backwards to make sure every Phillies season article has a table indicating wins/losses. Need I again say excellence?

You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Preparing for the Cubs 2015 season and beyond......[edit]

In preparation for the Cubs winning the Central division in 2015 and then the World Series in 2016, I am interested in creating the article for the 2015 Cubs season. I have read the wonderful article 2014 Philadelphia Phillies season that you and many fine editors (including my wiki-Friend User:Go Phightins! have created and can only hope to achieve its level of perfection. Of the three articles I have investigated, it seems that User:Spanneraol sets up the base page in late September. Is that correct? I guess I will be joining Project:Baseball. I've been waiting 60 years....I guess 2 more is not too long! ```Buster Seven Talk 15:48, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • When I went to check out the 2014 Chicago Cubs season article it was obvious that it did not compare to the Phillies article. It was meager, to say the least!! So I started to spruce it up a bit and will continue to work on it as winter goes by. Any advice is more than welcome. I checked out Wikipedia:WikiProject Chicago Cubs. It seems inactive which was surprising. Anyway, I'm kind of filled with "newbie" excitement. ```Buster Seven Talk 19:54, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Buster7: Sorry that it has taken 3 days to get back to you. Yes, User:Spanneraol does a good job this time of year is getting things set for the next season. The advice that I would give is work on it a little at a time. As I told one of my math students this week, "Complex problems can be broken down to a series of simple steps," so work on it as you have time and as you see things. One of my pets to notice is consistency using the ndash (–) in the game log as compared to the hyphen (-). I also don't like links that have to redirect so I'd rather have A. J. Burnett instead of A.J. Burnett; while both get to the correct page, I don't like roundabout paths. If you can find a collaborator to work with you, that would be great. I am more of a statistical person while User:Go Phightins! tends to be the writer. But the biggest piece of advice I can give is HAVE FUN while you are working. My brother and I have talking of taking a vacation to attend a day game at Wrigley Field, but as of yet we don't have even a year in mind; so maybe it'll be a Phillies-Cubs NLCS game when we finally make it! Happy editing! Bob305 (talk) 18:47, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Bob. Just a couple of questions in order to get the "lay of the land". Assorted boxes like Seasons Standings, Wild Card rankings, records vs opponents...are they templates (of a sort), edited at one place and then linked to many articles? BTW, I introduced myself to User:Tyrol5 who does the game log and other tech stuff. As the season comes to a close I'll just watch and learn from other editors. ```Buster Seven Talk 19:35, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you are correct concerning the standings, they are templates. Above all, have fun while you edit. I'm working backwards developing game logs for the Phillies. I finished 1983 last week, and may start the 1982 season today. As I edit, I am reminded me of my childhood as I remember watching certain games on TV, listening to many more on radio, and attending some in person. Even through some of their bad years, I remember my late father as a faithful fan. I realize that the further I go back, the more questions will arise (Why did they play 2 fewer games than everybody else?, etc.), but I enjoy challenges will probably have to spend time in the library reading newspaper archives (remember newspapers?). Bob305 (talk) 19:55, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hey guys! To Buster7, I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. Like I indicated on my talk page, I'm a Pirates fan, but getting out to Wrigley for an afternoon game has long been on my bucket list. I was rooting for the Cubs all the way back in '08. I'm looking forward to friendly Pirates-Cubs division rivalries in couple of years. Those Phillies, on the other hand... :) Tyrol5 [Talk] 20:15, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Truth be told, I have great respect for Pirates' fans who stuck with the team after so many consecutive down years. That level of allegiance is a true definition of a fan. Happy editing! Bob305 (talk) 23:33, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've gone ahead and set up the pages for 2015 for all the teams that wont be making the playoffs this year... I usually wait till the season is over, but this year i got a jump on it by a few days. Spanneraol (talk) 22:06, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wonderful! Bob305 (talk) 05:33, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Spanneraol for all you do. ```Buster Seven Talk 06:10, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I checked out the 2015 Chicago Cubs article. What I liked best was......the Cubs are in first place!!!```Buster Seven Talk 06:17, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

for checking out Wrigley Field Renovations. I plan on gathering "stuff" as the winter progresses...construction progress, photos, etc. Since its a 4 year project with construction only happening in the off-season, in spring of 2015 I'll change the name to "Wrigley Field Renovations – Phase 1". I welcome anyone else's thoughts or additions. ```Buster Seven Talk 06:53, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

One of the items that my eye catches is consistency in date format. There is no consistency in the reference section. You may want to correct for that. Bob305 (talk) 12:52, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

PSU player sub-stubs[edit]

Hey Bob, I have gotten the ball rolling with source gathering and one sentence placeholders for several PSU players who meet the GNG. I would welcome help in expanding them; even if you don't want to write prose, they need talk pages and infoboxes. Let me know if you want to collaborate on any of them: Akeel Lynch, DaeSean Hamilton, Geno Lewis, Mike Hull (linebacker), Anthony Zettel, Deion Barnes.

In other exciting news (ok, not really that exciting), I finally caught up with game recaps on 2014 Philadelphia Phillies season. That article still needs a crapload of work, specifically with hacking at what ultimately will be extraneous information I have compiled, writing the lead, contextualizing the season, adding final stats similar to 2008 Philadelphia Phillies season, and discussing themes/player performances ... I may save it for the WikiCup; we shall see.

Anyway, I just wanted to keep you in the loop in case you were interested in helping. Thanks. Go Phightins! 19:34, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note! Yes, and I'd probably start with Lewis ... as he's from my area of PA and I remember seeing him in high school basketball games also. As my fall soccer officiating winds down in a few short weeks, I'll have a little more time to go back to editing. Bob305 (talk) 19:40, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Great! If you want to take the lead on Lewis, I can work on some of the others. Go Phightins! 19:42, 12 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OSU game[edit]

Hey Bob, any chance you could get the game box up for the Ohio St. loss? I can try to write up the description later, but am busy right now. Thanks. Go Phightins! 18:57, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a plan! Bob305 (talk) 23:17, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

2014 PSU season[edit]

I have been falling behind with descriptions and such the last several weeks; real life proves nuts, unfortunately. If you happen to have time (no worries if not), and want to help (again, no worries if not), you could look up the Big Ten Network and ESPN Big Ten Blog week x predictions, and write a sentence of prose summarizing them for each week; predictions are the bulk of the preview paragraphs. If you happen to find any other storylines, you could add those too. Thanks. Go Phightins! 17:55, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I will see what I can gather, and I still haven't forgotten about adding to Geno Lewis's page. (Should he be added to the Lewis (surname) page?) Bob305 (talk) 19:49, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Great; no rush on either count. To be honest, I have no clue what the inclusion criteria for a list like that is. You could always add it and see if someone removes it. Sorry for not being too helpful there. Go Phightins! 20:51, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

For a split second I thought he should have just left the ball drop foul to avoid the tag up and possible score. I'm currently working on the 1971 game log; their record through 35 games was 12–23 just like this year. Hopefully this year they won't end up with 95 losses like '71. The trade[edit]

Ugh. Upset Jake Diekman is involved too. Two more of my GAs traded away :-/ ... oh well. Looks like some good prospects, at least. Go Phightins! 02:53, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't see that. For some reason ESPN is no longer available on my hotel TV, just ESPN-2. The crawl at the bottom of the screen only listed Hamels. Wait, as I flip through the channels, ESPN-News is where MASN was last night... Hotel TV's gotta love them, channels are never in the order you're used to at home. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Editor of the Week : nominations needed![edit]

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?

Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Bob Trowbridge, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Boston Braves. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

100.11.170.116[edit]

You reverted back to one of my edits in 1999–2000 Toronto Raptors season :-). You surely know more about basketball and football than I do; so, if you haven't already done so, you might care to check that editor's other contributions for their accuracy. Edit summaries by IP editors like "added content" and "fixed typo" ring my vandalism alarm bells – I've seen both used when more accurate summaries might have been "added pile of garbage" or "blanked page/section".

Looking at your user page, I still have and use a rotary dial telephone (it's one reason why my phone bill is £5/month – BT offers a couple of 'endangered species'-type discounts). Yrs, Narky Blert (talk) 05:15, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Still Learning[edit]

Hello! I wanted to take a moment and reach out to you. I am fairly new to Wikipedia and really have been learning on the fly. I do not have any background with anything like this and my grammar is not great. I am a Penn State football enthusiast and wanted to help but I also didn’t want to make anyone upset. Feel free to let me know if I am screwing things up or out of line. I am trying to keep things simple and not taking on more than I can handle. I have never even posted onto a talk page until now. However, if you think I am doing well and I can help you, please let me know.--TheSteve2424 (talk) 05:39, 29 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@TheSteve2424:, Thanks for your edits. I try to update the game's scoring while the game is ongoing. Thanks for updating the Illinois game's standout players (I had gone to bed after it was over). I learned on the fly as another editor did the muscle work. When he had to give it up because of real-life work, I took over. I am in Pottstown for a wedding today, but I anticipate being back home in time for the kickoff. My advice: if you know somebody does something game-by-game, give them a little bit of time to get it done; if it's not done after a period of time, go ahead and fill it in (like you did with the individual leaders last week after I went to bed). Wikipedia is a collaboration. Again, thanks for your edits! Bob305 (talk) 13:11, 29 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again! You stayed on top of the game summaries so I stayed away and worked on some other things. Again, if there is anything you would like to add but is too time consuming for you, just let me know. I do have a lot of time on my hands at work. The main reason I am writing you is to see if you wanted to start a 2019 Penn State football page. I was going to do it but I didn't want to step on your toes. Let me know what you think and I will be standing by. Keep up the great work!TheSteve2424 (talk) 04:54, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@TheSteve2424:, Go right ahead and begin the 2019 Penn State Nittany Lions football team page. I know that I have real life school activities which take up my time until early March. Like a good piece of wooden furniture, one must initially cut out the frame, but it takes a lot of sanding and polishing before it is show window furniture. So, go ahead and cut out the frame, and we both can sand and polish it as time permits over the coming months. Bob305 (talk) 21:24, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TheSteve2424:, Fine job there, sir! Bob305 (talk) 03:58, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
