Proposed deletion of Swiss UMEF University[edit]

The article Swiss UMEF University has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No reliable sources can be found describing this organization, which therefore fails to meet WP:GNG. Passing references to UMEF do not bolster its case. The UN Global Compact refers to UMEF as "Delisted... Expelled due to failure to communicate progress."

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Hey there @Darouet:, I understand why you'd propose the article for deletion. It's hard for me, though, to know where to go and what to do and how the process is proceeding, being a n00b who doesn't do much article creation. I don't know how fast deletion happens and I don't actually feel comfortable removing the deletion flag. I mean, I don't know where the relevant edit summary would be and so on. So babbling at you is what I'm doing. Anyway... My reasoning for notability is this: UMEF is in fact an entity with their name on a door and a hostel. There's all sorts of evidence that it exists as a business entity, a physical entity, and a web entity, and it does award degrees, just not recognized ones. The graduates of Dunya University, a fairly large institution in Afghanistan all get copies of UMEF degrees at the same time as their Dunya degrees. So there are a few hundred recent "graduates" of the place. What exactly would be needed to demonstrate that the place should be noted? Bizetshine (talk) 00:18, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey @Bizetshine: thanks for your note. The best thing to read about this is Wikipedia's essay on notability: WP:N. After reading that essay, and as you spend more time editing, you'll get a better sense of what can become a wikipedia article, and what can't. Please don't take this personally: the primary issue is that there are no third party reliable sources that describe the university, and all citations in the article direct readers to links with no information about UMEF. Nowhere does that say that anybody but you made the decision. Again, it was rational to reverse it in the face of the information I see. Whatever these policies are and whatever they might be, it just looks like you did a thing without taking the discussion or the evidence into account. What are you talking about? I didn't close the AFD. Follow the diff I gave you. It clearly shows that MBisanz closed the AFD. MBisanz is an admin and a Wikipedia:Bureaucrat who was wp:uninvolved in the AFD. Only an uninvolved editor (usually an admin but sometimes a nonadmin) may close an AFD.
