Grow up, you stupid moron. You're a tiresome waste of space. I never get to see your vandalism anyway because plenty of good editors revert it within a minute or two of you wasting your time vandalising this page (and you seem to insist on doing it in the middle of the night my time, when I'm not around to see it anyway). So do us all a favour and give up editing Wikipedia, and let lots of people make more productive use of their time. 29/7/06

I've got this query from Tomos ANTIGUA Tomos. I'm ashamed to say I don't even understand the question, let alone know the answer - hoping you can help. "Currently, the Welsh wikipedia's default settings mean that all intrawiki (mewnwici) links are underlined without having to roll the mouse over them. It's different from all the other wikipedias, and it looks a little ugly. It can be changed by going to "fy newisiadau" (there's a detailed explanation about it in Y Caffi), but as a bureaucrat, I was wondering if there was a way for you to change the default settings of the site so that it looks more professional for everyone." I'm not sure I really understand the problem, I think my personal settings have always been to "never" underline the links, so I wouldn't have noticed any difference - my en.wikipedia settings are identical so the two have always looked the same to me! Because it is unencyclopaedic trivia, and moreover was improperly formatted so that even if it was notable it did not appear properly in the article. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information - if every song ever sung about a footballer was put in their article we would never find the important information, and there's already far too much inconsequential rubbish being put in articles which needs to be weeded out. -- Arwel (talk) 18:09, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Assistance with editor

I am presuming that you are an Admin as I noticed you recently blocked an editor? On this article, Football hooliganism, this user, User:80.61.217.173 has taken great offence at some of the article. However, rather than trying to deal with it by discussing it in the talk page of the article, they have chosen to continually vandalise the article with accusations of racism. I have reverted their edits twice, but clearly cannot keep reverting them. The last edit has added very sarcastic, insulting comments and removed a BBC source. I have even tried to appease the user by leaving a message on their talk page suggesting they bring it up on the talk page of the article, but they have simply chosen to ignore that and vandalise the article again. And ignoring my comments tryint to reason with them, and trying to get some common ground. Battle of Jutland, Grand Fleet image removal.

Hello!

I am sorry if I am wrong in leaving a message like this, perhaps I should be posting this somewhere else as a part of the discussion area of the article. I am a newbie at this though, so please bear with me.

As you know, I removed the image entitled "Grand_fleet_jutland.jpg" from the article. The reason was that it is not, in fact, a picture of the Grand Fleet (or of the High Seas Fleet for that matter). It is actually a painting depicting the Austro-Hungarian Navy during maneuvers in the Adriatic.

It is featured on the cover of the book "K.u.K. Flotte 1900-1918" (K.u.K. is short for Kaiserliche und Königliche Kriegsmarine), by author Wladimir Aichelberg, and was also featured in a book by Macintyre, Donald and Bathe, Basil W. I do not know the English (i.e. original) title of the book, but the Swedish title was: "Örlogsfartyg genom seklen" (Warships through the centuries), ISBN 91-46-12528-0.

The painting itself, called "K.u.K. Eskader in der Adria", was painted in 1913 by artist August von Ramberg, and is supposedly the property of the Museum of War in Vienna.

The battleship leading the fleet is SMS Viribus Unitis. Her class had a very un-British armament layout of three guns per turret, which can be clearly seen on larger images of the painting. Also, the Viribus Unitis is flying the Austro-Hungarian naval ensign, which again is seen more clearly on larger versions.

The source page of the image (http://pubpages.unh.edu/~jpsabol/jutland/images.html) is titled "Images of the battle", but even so features an image of the High Seas Fleet being led by SMS Blücher, which was sunk at Dogger Bank. Also, HMS Dreadnought did not participate at Jutland. It seems that this page, being so titled, is somewhat inconsistent in showing "images of the battle".

If you want more evidence, download this pdf, called die münze - 3 ausgabe 2006.pdf: [1]. This pdf contains information about a collector´s medal being made, apparently using the painting as a model.

I hope this explains my action of removal.

The edits appear to have been made by a very occasionally-editing account, and by an occasional IP address (probably the same person, I suspect). As such, I don't think they're likely to recur, especially as I've left a strongly-worded warning about violating the Biographies of Living People policy on their talk pages (it's particularly ironic that they actually linked to your blog and appear to have got the positions of the two sides on the Israel boycott issue diametrically reversed!).

Please note that I did not, as you stated, alter Lord Weatherills entry to as it was before his death. When I heard of his death, I checked his entry and noted that his death had already been entered. However, when I checked a few moments later, it was not apparent. I therefore entered those details. Frankly, I am annoyed that you feel the need to make unsubstatiated claims which are not true. I altered that entry in service to the Wikipedia community, and am frustrated that you feel the need to send sch a negative message.

Further, I decided to put the links in to the dates, again as a favour to the users of this site. The links are there, as I'm sure you'll accept, to make it easier for the users to navigate the site. I entered them for that reason alone. I see no reason for your tone with regards the links.

I am sorry that you interpreted my comment as hostile, it was not intended as such, more as friendly advice. However, your edit of 17:08 BST today had the effect, with the exception of changing four "is"es to "was" and the addition of one sentence recording his death, of reverting the article to the state it was in before the first edit today (see [2]), when the article had already been edited 17 times to reflect his death and amending the tense of the article throughout (see [3] for the changes which you overwrote). With regard to linking standalone years, it is considered that such links are generally distracting to readers and usually serve little purpose and should be discouraged; this is a reversal from the early years of Wikipedia when all years were routinely linked, but I think it helps articles look and read better - see Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(dates_and_numbers)#Partial_dates. EU Driving licences

You said drivers moving to the UK do not have to exchange their driving licence within any time limit. That may be so for the UK, but some other countries do have a time limit after which the "foreign" licence is no longer valid. I had to exchange my licence when I moved to Switzerland. The justification is that the authorities cannot "endorse" a foreign licence.

The sentence was supposed to be saying that all EU countries accept licences from all other EU countries in lieue of test passes, and the old licence is then cancelled. What time limit applies is a different point.

Yes, but Switzerland is not part of the EU, so it's not surprising that you were not covered by the mutual recognition arrangement when you moved there. Yes, I know Switzerland is not part of the EU, I live there! But, it has signed up to many EU agreements, including the one for mutual recognition of driving licences. If it wasn't covered by the agreement for mutual recognition of driving licences, I wouldn't have been able to swop my British licence for a Swiss one, I would have had to take a new test.

Swiss driving licences look like this: [4], which is EU-standard format (PS, that is not my picture).

The point I was trying to make, is that you don't have to pass a new test when you move from one EU country (+CH) to another, you can hand in your old licence which is accepted in lieue of a test pass certificate. How long you are allowed to to drive on your "foreign" licence before you must swop it varies from country to country, and, as you pointed out, in the case of Britain appears virtually unlimited.

I have split these paragraphs off into a new sub-section "Issues when moving permanently from one country to another". If you can improve it further, please do so. TiffaF 07:01, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm not bothered about it really, your edit just got caught up in a larger edit I was doing (which removed the DB7 nonsense anyway, so I didn't notice what else you'd deleted). David Beckham

Is there any way to run a check on the editors that have been lambasting me on the David Beckham talk page? I find it strange that there are 4 or 5 editors that have edited nowhere other than that talk page just to have a go at me, and that have all turned up in the last 24hrs or so. It has occurred to me that all these new editor might be sock puppets for a user I've had problems with before - User:SanchiTachi. Seems they've started on you now. Another couple of "new" users that have never edited anywhere other than the DB talk page have emerged. Is it the correct policy to take this to Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets, as I'm not the only one there to have become suspicious? POV pushing

Hi, please could you take a look at Boris Johnson. This has been the subject of an edit conflict with POV pushing by unregistered editors without citing sources. One of them has now started adding sources but these are blogs and I am not sure if these are acceptable. Also, I am not happy about the POV word "politically motivated" in the secton title and the POV word "accurately" in the lasrt paragraph. Careful about blocking "number users"

I just received the following message on "my" talk page

Technically, it is not my personal page, as I simply cruising and was not logged in yet... but I sure would not like having my access blocked because some berk is wandalizing Latvia (I never did any edit on that page, let alon the contentious ones). I have reassessed William Brown (admiral) as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force. We are currently revisiting all listed Good articles in an effort to ensure that they continue to meet the Good article criteria.

In reviewing the article, I came across some issues that may need to be addressed; I have left a detailed summary on the article's talk page. As a result I have put William Brown (admiral)'s GA status on hold. This will remain in place for a week or so before a final decision is taken as to the article's status.
