ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Arthistorian1977. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Minshar School of Art

Hello, Arthistorian1977. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Minshar School of Art".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. TKK! bark with me! 03:17, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

Precious

artists

Thank you for quality articles on artists, beginning with photographer Vardi Kahana: painter Aleksandr Nikolayev (Usto Mumin), poet Payam Feili, dance company Kamea, and multi-artist Sarah Anne Johnson, for improving others such as William Christie and Jacques d'Adelswärd-Fersen, for dealing with articles for creation and deletion, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Arthistorian1977, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
  • Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!

Outreach and Invitations:

  • If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with: {{subst:NPR invite}}. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.

New Year New Page Review Drive

  • A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
  • Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
  • The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.
  • To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

If you wish to opt-out of future mailings, go here. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:27, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Cannabis reviewed articles

I hope the large number of cannabis articles of mine you've reviewed has been more interesting than monotonous! Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney (talk) 09:23, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

Well, they are all stub now, but I hope in time when laws are finalized, they are expanded.Arthistorian1977 (talk) 09:24, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
Yup, you can note that a lot of the Canada ones only have sources from November and December, since that's how recently the planned frameworks were arranged. We've just had a huge uptick in interest in Canada cannabis topics (Cannabis in Canada is now our most-viewed by-country cannabis article) so we figured we might as well gin up these articles to give the readers the basic plans, and space to add new facts as they come in. Thanks! Goonsquad LCpl Mulvaney (talk) 09:40, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

New Years new page backlog drive

Hello Arthistorian1977, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Announcing the NPP New Year Backlog Drive!

We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!

The backlog drive will begin on January 1st and run until January 29th. Prize tiers and other info can be found HERE.

Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:

  • The total number of reviews completed for the month.
  • The minimum weekly total maintained for all four weeks of the backlog drive.

NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

About my articles

Hi, How are you? Why would you want to delete my articles even though they are visible in Wikipedia? Why did the articles be nominated for quick deletion? Please explain!--IamIRAQI (talk) 20:37, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

About speedy deletion of Illuminati (Roman)

I totally agree with you, the stub I wrote is very short and does not provide more information than what one can found in the article (Academy) where the link originates. The situation is that this article linked to the wrong reference, as I pointed out in my comment; incidentally this error remains in the main article from which the paragraph was taken; I did not notice it then, only now as I review your deletion request.

Thus, my intention was to correct the mistake (link pointing to the wrong article, a rather frequent mistake in Wikipedias) and to provide a minimum of information about this group of scholars who called themselves Illuminati, a claim that reappears every now and then in history: e. g.:

To close, I have no argument to stop the stub from deletion; I or someone else, could add a few words to make it a bit longer and perhaps clarify (‘’enlighten, illuminate’’?) the matter. But, if deleted the mistakes and unclarity remain. Lcgarcia (talk) 19:39, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

Newer information added

I have added a few bits of information to the stub. It was not simple as practically every Internet reference to the Illuminati refers either to the Bavarian group or quotes (often copies the data without attribution) to the Catholic Encyclopaedia article about Roman Academies. The Italian Wikipedia makes no reference to this or any of the 16th century Roman Academies. On the other hand, the Marchesa Isabella is not mentioned anywhere except in the Catholic Encyclopaedia article, perhaps beceuse she was better known as a literary and artistic maecenas and not as a Marchesa, which she was by marriage (I am speculating here, what do you think? You are the historian!). Thus, I ask you please to read once again the article an reconsider your speedy deletion request. Lcgarcia (talk) 22:37, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

Just a friendly heads up on Illuminati (Roman). I declined your no-context speedy deletion request because it's clearly about a school.----Fabrictramp | talk to me 00:07, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

The tag violates basically every section of A1 - This applies to articles lacking sufficient context to identify the subject of the article. There is sufficient context - it is about the phrase "good germans". It applies only to very short articles. The article had two good paragraphs. Don't use this tag in the first few minutes after a new article is created. within 4 minutes.
Regarding the A11, how is it indicated that it is made up by the creator (remember, it's not for hoaxes; addendum: or for articles with claims of significance) Galobtter (pingó mió) 15:25, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

2013 government shutdown

Redirects, such as 2013 government shutdown should not be moved. --Jax 0677 (talk) 13:59, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jax 0677, could you please let me know why? They are broad, while US is narrow. Government Shutdown can happen not only in USA. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 14:02, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jax 0677 I don't think it's an official policy, so I still stand behind this bold move. The articles, redirects, actually everything is not owned by creators Arthistorian1977 (talk) 14:08, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
Reply - If this is the case, why was I blocked for these moves? --Jax 0677 (talk) 14:08, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
Jax 0677, Well, if you were blocked I see this as a result of "Don't move others' for no reason". Can you show me the original complaint that led to the block and block log? Arthistorian1977 (talk) 14:12, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Dschslava Unreviews???? What? I didn't unreview any article today. If something like that happened, this may be the bug of the review tool. Let me please, check! Arthistorian1977 (talk) 20:39, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
Dschslava And thank you for bringing my attention for that. I just checked and noticed that when I open an article from from New Pages feed, some articles and redirects which are already already reviewed by someone else are not shown immediately as reviewed by review tool and it takes 1-2 seconds for the tool to load status. Maybe it's related to my network connection, but this was the reason I accidentally unreviewed those articles. I made them reviewed again and apologised to creator. Now I know I need to wait till the status is loaded. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 20:49, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion Removal

Hello. I saw that you reviewed a page I created, Nathan Shaw. It was nominated, wrongly I believe, for deletion. It is in my opinion the article should remain as I have included multiple sources to prove notability. I believe it should remain so that it can be added to and evolve with other users contributions. Please remove the deletion tag. Thank You Makro (talk) 20:39, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Your reveiwed pages

Hi Arthistorian1977, I have moved to draft of a few of your reviewed pages as they have not a single source in the page and wonder what did you base on to review them. When a page is not deem satisfactory for immediate publication, might be accepted if the creator has more time for development then move to Draft page and get the creator to develop future. Here is link to reveiwer tutorial - Wikipedia:New pages patrol and please note Content added/edited in Wikipedia needs "inline citation" from independent (third party / secondary / tertiary) reliable source (in any language) for verification to gauge the nobility criteria is met. The articles's inline citation is the WP:BURDEN which it is on the person adding the information. Please note official website, records of sport events or individual player records are consider primary source and not independent source, and social network source such as facebook, twitter, instagram, imbd and etc are considered NOT reliable source and can not be used for citing. Independent reliable source are sources are those obtain from major newspaper, such as The Guardian, Sydney Morning Herald, CNN news and etc. or source obtain from major publisher of the work (for example, Random House or Cambridge University Press). Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 09:25, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi again, CASSIOPEIA. Hmm, as far as I recall they both were tagged with deletion tags. Usually I follow such articles after I marked them as reviewed. There is a chance someone removed deletion tags while I was always and then you moved them to Drafts. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 12:41, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi Arthistroian1977, I moved the pages to draft and place deletion tag; yet somehow, while we doing them (maybe around the same time) you reviewed the articles. The point is reviewing based without source that prevent the contain to be verify and deems article need to further develop in draft page instead of mainpage (like adding source). Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 12:45, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
And by the way all the three pages have been deleted on mainspace - see here Vivienne Collins, Kerala State Television Awards 2015 and Kurkura railway station. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 13:05, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I have moved 2017 Women's African Volleyball Clubs Championship to draft and the copy in main page will be deleted. Please note you review the page which has no source which you have done more than a few times now. To check content against source to determine if GNG is met is the reviewer responsibility, no merely read and mark review as on what ground you determined the content is verify? Pls read the links I included in my early message to understand notability, verification and independent source criteria and guidelines to deem acceptable in Wikipedia. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 08:08, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
Again, the page I set as "reviewed" had deletion tags, so in this case review is properly justified. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 08:13, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
, Hi you have reviewed a few more which pages had no article. If it is had a deletion tag, then why do you reviewed it? CASSIOPEIA(talk) 07:20, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi CASSIOPEIA, Because, such articles do not need to be in unreviewed queue. I advise you to set article as reviewed when you put a deletion tags in order allow other reviewers to attend to really unreviewed articles. When deletion tag is put to an article, it means it was reviewed by an editor and its presence in unreviewed queue is misleading. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 08:13, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi, The point is you reviewed pages without source and the question still the same what were your based that the articles' content to justified they are supported by independent source for verification and to gauge if the articles meet the nobility criteria. You have not provide and answer so far and it is the partoller's responsibility to check for this is the core Wikipedia guidelines. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 08:24, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi CASSIOPEIA, did you read my answer above about making articles with deletion tags as reviewed? Patroller responsibility is to set article as review when deletion tags are set as a courtesy to other reviewers at least. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 08:29, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi, When I move page to draft it usually get the article on the main page deleted very quickly, guess not today. I guess we are not on the same as the question I asked repeatedly was not answered. Anyway have a good night. Pen off. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 09:37, 27 March 2018 (UTC)

I have unreviewed a page you curated

Hi, I'm Boleyn. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Fabien Dunand, and have un-reviewed it again. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you.

Boleyn (talk) 16:15, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

  • And I have nominated the "article" (created by a throw-away account with no other edits) for speedy deletion per G10 (attack pages) since it's pure character assassination, with lots of unsubstantiated claims about wrongdoings, masquerading as an article. Did anyone other than me even read it? - Tom | Thomas.W talk 16:23, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Hi Thomas.W, I marked it as reviewed, after you put speedy deletion tag to remove it from queue for review. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 09:07, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Hi Thomas.W, what I see by logs I marked it as reviewed. Since I don't remember the article, this means I did as part of queue cleanup, meaning I marked is reviewed after it was already marked by any of the deletion tags. Currently I don't have information what kind of deletion tags it had before you marked it with speedy, but it obviously had it. Regards, Arthistorian1977 (talk) 09:23, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018

Hello Arthistorian1977, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

Disambiguation link notification for June 5

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Konrad Helbig, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sicilian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:41, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

Yes, I do wonder why you unreviewed the article, especially since you didn't tag it, and why you thought I needed to know about it. Sjö (talk) 08:26, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi Sjö, as you noticed, I immediately review article back again. This was a review tool glitch. No harm intended. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 08:28, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

Autopatrol broken

Please be aware that the autopatrol userright is broken, so new articles by editors such as myself are showing up in recent changes when they shouldn't. Abductive (reasoning) 10:33, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

Ogh, Abductive, many thanks for letting me know! I was so surprised to see a new article of myself "reviewed", since I also have autopatrol userright. Now it makes sense. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 10:37, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

I have unreviewed a page you curated

Hi, I'm Akhiljaxxn. I wanted to let you know that I saw the page you reviewed, Sharmila Thackeray, and have un-reviewed it again. If you have any questions, please ask them on my talk page. Thank you.

Akhiljaxxn (talk) 10:13, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Hello Akhiljaxxn, I reviewed it again. Article that has discussion for deletion, should not stay in queue for reviews. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 10:34, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Hi. When an article is taken to the AfD, twinkle automatically marks it as patrolled. When any article is taken to AfD, it is either deleted, or kept. In other words, if it is deleted; the problem with article is gone with the article itself. If the article is kept, most probably the issue gets solved. In either case, it doesnt need to be "reviewed" as it goes through few different sets of eyes. Akhiljaxxn (talk) 10:41, 3 July 2018 (UTC)
Hi Akhiljaxxn, Somehow when you took it to AfD, it was't set as patrolled and left in queue. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 10:57, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. (Purge)

Hello Arthistorian1977, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

June backlog drive

Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

New technology, new rules
  • New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
  • Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
  • Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.
Editathons
  • Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
The Signpost
  • The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. If you have special messages to be published, or if you would like to submit an article (one about NPR perhaps?), don't hesitate to contact the editorial team here.
