March 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Bruce1ee. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Antagonist have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. —Bruce1eetalk 22:46, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Bruce1ee, I unfortunately cannot find a way to add a message on your talk page, I hope you can forgive if I reply here instead.
Thank you for leaving a message. I've requested an unblock of my account and understand why my contribution was flagged.
In an attempt to better understand the guidelines, so that I do not repeat this mistake in the future, could you clarify why my contribution was flagged as self-promotion? I'm seeing the following from the guidelines:
"Citation spamming is a subtle form of spam and should not be confused with legitimate good-faith additions intended to verify article content and help build the encyclopedia."
"Sometimes, people come to Wikipedia with the intention of spamming—creating articles which are mere advertisements or self-promotion, or adding external links to a web site over many articles."
When adding my contribution, I thought I was adding appropriate extra depth. Would it have been more appropriate to cite a different source that is seen as more reputable? Is there any instance where citing my own articles would be allowed, if the edits are made in good faith and for the purpose of improving an article's text?
I'm looking forward to learning more about Wikipedia and making useful and legitimate contributions.
Thank you! Andreacerasoni (talk) 10:58, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Self-published sources are generally not regarded as reliable sources, but have a look at this guideline, which states: "Self-published expert sources may be considered reliable when produced by an established expert on the subject matter, whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable, independent publications." Citing other sources of course are permitted, provided they meet Wikipedia's reliable source guidelines. —Bruce1eetalk 13:06, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

March 2024[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

Request reason:
I understand my account has been blocked due to adding a citation to my blog on the Wikipedia page for "Antagonist". I added this citation as while researching the topic, I thought the article could benefit from extra depth. I thought having professional writing experience through my role as editor for the online magazine Baeldung.com would add reliability to my source. However, I understand this contribution is flagged as a self-published source and not allowed. I apologize for this and do not intend to repeat this in the future. Administrators should consider discussing any unblock with the blocking administrator (see the blocking policy).

Administrator use only:

If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, please place {{subst:Unblock on hold-notification | 1=Andreacerasoni}} on the administrator's talk page. Then replace this template with the following:

{{unblock-un on hold | 1=blocking administrator | 2=andrea_cerasoni | 3=I understand my account has been blocked due to adding a citation to my blog on the Wikipedia page for "Antagonist". If you accept the unblock request, replace this template with the following:

{{unblock-un reviewed | 1=andrea_cerasoni | reason=I understand my account has been blocked due to adding a citation to my blog on the Wikipedia page for "Antagonist". I added this citation as while researching the topic, I thought the article could benefit from extra depth. Andreacerasoni (talk) 10:52, 16 March 2024 (UTC) | accept=Allowing username change to requested username. Please select an option from [[Wikipedia:Changing username]] and file a request as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. ~~~~}}[reply]

If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following, replacing {{subst:Decline reason here}} with any specific rationale. If you do not edit the text after "decline=", a default reason why the request was declined will be inserted.

What edits do you intend to make instead? 331dot (talk) 08:41, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 331dot, I only intend to make edits like spelling and grammar mistakes, and if in the future I want to add citations to an article, I will only cite verified and reputable experts in those subjects and not my personal website or any other self published source.
