2007 Tabasco flood[edit]

Thanks very much for contributing to this article. There is a lot still to do, but it is starting to shape up now. I also started a page on Commons to organize photos and I have uploaded some from Flickr if they had a Creative Commons license. I have also posted to 2 groups on Flickr asking them to please re-license their images so we can use them.

Finally, I proposed this for the "In the News" portion of the Wikipedia Main Page. I think it is an important event that deserves to be highlighted there. If it gets listed then the traffic to the page will really increase. We will need to be vigilant for vandalism, unfortunately. Johntex\talk 01:47, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oaxaca[edit]

I've revised you edits to Mary Goldsmith. The couple lived in the state, among the native peoples in various towns and villages, not in the city proper. Please be aware of subject matter when altering links, thanks. ThuranX 14:59, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: State codes for Mexico[edit]

The 2-letter codes for Mexican states are not from the ISO. ISO 3166-2:MX uses 3-letter codes. According to [1], there are a number of conflicting, unofficial sets of two-letter abbreviation codes for Mexican states in use. Spacepotato 21:45, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. Would it be fair to say that neither the ISO codes nor any set of two-letter codes are generally used by the public in Mexico? Spacepotato 22:04, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Exiliboa[edit]

Hi Aille! I saw your recent changes to the Exiliboa article, but I'm not entirely sure about all of them. The wikilinks for Sierra Mixe and Totontepec look okay, since both of the relevant articles state that these localities are in the state of Oaxaca. However, according to my source (McDiarmid et al., 1999), the Sierra de Juárez is also supposed to be in Oaxaca, as opposed to Baja California. Could it be that there are two such mountain ranges in Mexico? If you think there are not -- and you're really, really sure about this one being in Baja California -- then I could contact Dr. McDiarmid about this issue. (PS -- Please answer here, as I've temporarily added your talk page to my watchlist). --Jwinius (talk) 12:44, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. A bit of Googling indicates Sierra de Juárezes in both Baja California and Oaxaca, and another one in Chihuahua. Thanks for pointing that out; I'll do the necessary disambiguating. Totontepec at least appears to be unique. Aille (talk) 14:42, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent! I trust you to set things straight. Cheers, --Jwinius (talk) 15:48, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Aille[edit]

Hi how are you, I was wandering if you could help me deal with a couple of users like Corticopia and Spacepotato to stop with their negative attitude towards Mexico, like trying to put it as a Central American country (just cuz they dislike the fact that it is in North America) or being against putting the state in Mexico’s cities (even though they don't have a logical reason), etc. I know you speak Spanish and you do care about Mexico, I really hope you can help me, I'm getting tired of constantly engaging editwars with these people, WTH is wrong with them, it just pisses me off their hypocrisy, regards. Supaman89 (talk) 03:23, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand, I just wanted to bring your attention to this issue that's being going on for about a year now, first with Corticopia and now with his “new best friend” Spacepotato (it seems like they both share the same interests…), I'm really getting tired of all this hypocrisy, you may not notice it now but hopely with the time you will, anyhow gracias por contestar, luego nos vemos. Supaman89 (talk) 21:12, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aille I need you to take a look here if you would, it is just an absurd discussion, Corticopia is trying to put that Middle America is as widely used as North America, which is obviously nonsense we all know that MA is almost unknown and rarely used, but noo he wants to put it as if both terms had the same weight... and even though he’s the one saying this nonsense he has the gall to ask me to cite proof otherwise! he just keeps reverting it, we need a third person here to tell him that it is just absurd and stop this editwar, please check it to see what I mean. Supaman89 (talk) 03:26, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Housewives in Kansas lol, I know, most of the links about MA are about the middle class in the US, but the thing is that here (like in any other discussions with him) doesn't matter whether I'm right or wrong he won't let me do it, actually at first (a long time a go) he kinda wanted to put Mexico in CA then he realized he couldn't do it, so he found out that there is this term call MA (which again is rarely used) and he starting promoting it (for obvious reasons...) he even created a template "Countries and dependencies in MA" and started putting it wherever he could. In fact, the term does exists and if he wants to promote it there is nothing I can do (even though I know why), but I do can say that it is RARELY used, but noo again he wants to give it the same weight as NA, doesn't really matter what I say he's gonna keep reverting it with whatever excuse (just look at the history) I just need another person to help me stop this and hopely he won’t be able to revert it.
Just for the record he's been blocked God knows how many times for the same reason, engaging into editwars about Mexico related articles, not just with me but with other users like JCmenal and AlexCovarrubias (which is absent for a couple of months) you can check at their records to see what I mean, anyways I could go to Wikipedia:Third_opinion and try to get someone else to get into the discussion, but I'll have to explain it al over again and chances are that he manages to get away with it, but if it's you (doesn't really matter who, as long as it's a third person) he'll stop giving me absurd excuses and stay with the term "rarely" whether he likes it or not; but if you can't help me it's fine I understand, nos vemos. HI. Thanks for your work on adding mexican towns, you can google e.g "Tubutama coordinates" and type it into the box like I have done. ALl you have to do is add pushpin map=Mexico and it displays on the map. See how I have done Tubutama ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 12:28, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll have a fish around. The main thing stopping it may be that the pin doesn't work with certain maps. I'm not a big fan of the current colours either -i'd rather green rather than yellow as it reflects land better unless it is the Sahara desert!! I;ll see what I can conjure up. INcidentally I've created about 100+ mapas at User:Blofeld of SPECTRE/Missing locator maps for all these exotic countries as I also thought they looked cool and are very helpful. My aim is also for any place in Mexico and any place in the world to have an infobox and map like so. Thanks and keep those new articles coming!! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:16, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I;ve found a more attractive map which works but it doesn't show state boundaries. The one I found which did I don't think looks very good but I'll see ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:26, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope I've tried Image:Mexico blank.svg but it is inaccurate and off line I think ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:30, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

We'll have to keep the relief map which I think looks much more attractive, just a shame it doesn't have the state boundaries but it is a big improvement I think. Infoboxes and maps like this should be added to all the places in Mexico. At present only about 5 have them. If you could work on this this would be of great benefit ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:33, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I;ve added an infobox to Aconchi. If you could work through the categories of each state and ensure that the towns have this this would develop Mexican geography considerably. i;ll be adding a few from time to time ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:38, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody added the wrong coordinates though! I;ll have to find the correct ones ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:39, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Soon enough there should be actually a map of the municipality in Sonora -a positional map of the territory too. These infboxes can take this map also. So eventually you;d have the position in Mexico and then the municipality highlighted in the Sonora map underneath ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:04, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See Sáric. It looks as though that is the only map for a municipality that exists in Sonora. I have no idea why the others weren't created. I;ll try to see if the creator can make all the others. Good? You like it? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:13, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All that you got wrong with that was that you added a -----> wiki map blablalalala etc thing at the end of the coordinates. If you don't add that and just enter the coordinates in the box without adding the message it would have done it perfectly ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:35, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it looks great. As long as it is fairly accurate and not showing them in china I think we're ok! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:10, 12 February 2008 (UTC) Thats great if you have found some municip maps. If you are adding them though can you add an infobox like Hecelchakán. Thanks and keep up the good work ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:11, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Uuuu not yet!!! I would usually be adding an infobox to the french articles when I start but I still have about 10,000 to start and its easier and quicker to just stub them and add the infoboxes later. I'm nearly half the way through them. I'll help add infoboxes to many Mexican towns though. Yes I know it is poor to have an article on the muncipality and town in the same article as they cover a substantial area. Hopefully eventually they will develop to have enough info for seperate articles, and cover villages within these municips also ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:24, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well the pinpoint highlights the town not the municip of course ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:26, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish language academies[edit]

Hi Aille, nice work in creating those articles and categories associated with the various spanish language academies. Just one thing to note: although it's a closer literal translation of the spanish name, in standard english the title "Mexican Academy of the Language" (or Chilean, etc) does not really work grammatically. The definite article (the) is not required in such expressions, and the more usual english translation is "Mexican Academy of Language" (or sometimes, 'Mexican Language Academy', or even 'Mexican Academy of the Spanish Language'; in the latter case the definite article does appear).

I've revised the associated articles and categories for the Mexican academy, and will look to help out with the couple of others. Saludos, --cjllw ʘ TALK 03:24, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

discussion Allie[edit]

Well, as a matter of fact there is no exactly Translation to English or a exactly definition of what is the difference between the County (Municipio), that were are going to say is the territory and the Principal town of the county, that is not the only town on the county.

For me, I would say to explain it better it is like a small state, for example we have the State of Mexico and the Capital is Toluca, where the the powers of goverment are located, we have: Governor State deputies State Supreme Court.

And we have the municipio, a smaller territory than the state, and a lot of Municipios or counties make the state territoy, and they have their own authorities at their level , and we can call them Municipal or County Authorities, and they are located in the principal town of the county. (There is not only one village or small town located at the county So in order to diferenciate the territory from the town, we can call the town by the name of capital of the county.Guillermo7777 (talk) 01:41, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Guillermo7777 (talk) 01:39, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Guillermo7777 (talk) 01:32, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article titles and diacritics[edit]

Hi there Aille. Just FYI, for consistency we had worked out the beginnings of an informal guideline and de facto practice at WP:MESO for the naming of Mesoamerican sites, personages & entities, documented (obscurely) at WP:MESO/G. In a nutshell, where the name derives wholly from some indigenous language (ie is neither an english nor spanish word/term), then we have omitted any accents or other diacritic chars, if they are only used because of pronunciation and orthographical conventions in spanish but are not used or required in the orthographical conventions of the indigenous language. Thus, we have Chichen Itza not Chichén Itzá, Teotihuacan not Teotihuacán, Xultun not Xultún.

However, if the name is partially spanish in origin (eg San Lorenzo Tenochtitlán), or wholly spanish (eg Río Azul), then diacritics may be used. For the names of modern municipios, spanish names (Hernán Cortés), diacritics are OK also.

Not a policy by any means, just an attempt to provide some guideline and consistent usage. Saludos, --cjllw ʘ TALK 07:59, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and thanks for fixing the accent (and the additional info -- we need to create a page on CERJ as well, and fill in more about Méndez). Would you be so kind as to take a look at them as well? Again, thanks for all your work.Notmyrealname (talk) 15:26, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Aille you'll be please to know I;ve got around to drawing up the templates for the municipalities/cities. However I will require your help in adding the municipalities/city seat articles to all of these state nav templates. For instance please see Template:Chihuahua. Using the pages like Municipalities of Chihuahua for each state do you think you could help format each of the templates which the appropriate municipality/seat in the style shown for Chihuahua. I've left a {*} divider in each of the box to incude between each one. If you closely follow Chihuahua template. enboldening the municipal above the seat this makes it much clearer. I think wher epossible we should aim to have a seperate article on the municipality from the town. OK? Blofeld of SPECTRE (talk) 18:32, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep COlimas now good. Note though that a municipality is only dabbed as "(Municipality of Colima)" e.g if there are more than one municipalities with the same name. Most of them time is is best to just add (municipality) after it. Also see the bullet point with the { } around it I have left in every one. The idea is to copy and paste those between the series of municips/seats. Have a look at Template:Colima now to see what I mean. Best regardsBlofeld of SPECTRE (talk) 21:41, 13 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I'd forgotten that. Change it back if you like. I really need your help with filling in those templates though with the municipalities.Dr. Blofeld (talk) 19:26, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes as much as I want to have seperate articles on municipalities and seats I think for the smaller states its probably best to have on article on them given that they are both stubs. Then once they develop they can be split later. Dr. Blofeld (talk) 19:39, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Remember though to think from a global perspective. On the dab pages you'll need to say they refer to municipalities in Mexico as they could be anywhere to the lesser knowledgeable editorDr. Blofeld (talk) 20:46, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I would delete that template and use Template:Mexican political parties, a footer template instead Count Blofeld 10:53, 8 November 2008 (UTC) Thanks. I'm supposed to be having a restful copule of days but once my work on Nepal is wrapped up I can concentrate on blue linking the Mexican municipalities. Thanks for your help adding to many of the templates, I noticed. If you could continue to help sort out the links and linking them in all the state boxes this will make things far easier when I come to concentrate on Mexico and I can just plough through them. I may evne feel up to completing Coahuila later, but we'll see. Best Count Blofeld 16:34, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the reason why I was questioning it is because a "city" with 600 people in as in some of the places in Chihuahua seemd too small to be called so. Then we get "towns" like my native Barry, Vale of Glamorgan with 50,000 not called "cities". Hey also we need to upload ALL of the municipal coat of arms for each state to the commons. Licensing them as {{insignia}} is permitted Count Blofeld 19:11, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes as long as they are "cuidades" by government recognition thats OK. I;ve just uploaded Image:CoahuilaAbasolo.jpg could probably save all of the COAs for each state and then upload them one after another Count Blofeld 19:35, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heads up[edit]

Just a heads up. For the articles on the cities, its best that we don't include the municipal map only the national locator as it may confuse some people as the article isn't about the municipality. Howveer, if in the future we get some pin maps for the Mexican states then it would be great to include the pin point position of the city within the municipality/state Count Blofeld 11:04, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Coahuila's done. Another thing, I want to make the articles consistent and from now on will be placing "Municipal seat and city" in the articles on cities in the infobox rather than just "City" or "Municipal seat". If you come across any cities with are municipal capital please add Municipal seat and city to the infobox settlement type instead.Cheers Count Blofeld 12:44, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Its really starting to take shape now. I;ve started on Durango but have also linked Template:Guerrero! Could you fill in Hidalgo and Jalisco. Probably the best thing is to sort out the links on the municipal pages first. Soon enough we will have all the templates completed and then I can drill through them all. Infrastructurally this encyclopedia will be massively better off once we have sorted Mexico out. Hasta luego! Count Blofeld 19:00, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll ask about. Great work with the templates BTW. Count Blofeld 13:23, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey can you fix the dabs on Template:Veracruz and place the template at the foot of existing articles if you are going to work on it. Cheers. I'll continue with Durango now. I still need to finish Nepal though. Count Blofeld 18:30, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes Veracruz is probably the biggest one. Yes once they are dabbed they should be placed in the articles. Maybe it will encourage people to start a few but we'll get there soon enough. By building the templates and placing them in the articles it kinda sets up a framework to build upon. Why most of them haven't been started beats me. I've added the templates up to Guerrero. Looks as if there are only 5 or 6 templates left to build. Keep up the good work, you're doing great Count Blofeld 18:51, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Where are you from? Are you Mexican? Judging by the hours you are online you must be from the "Americas"? Count Blofeld 18:59, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Municipios[edit]

Nice to see someone has an interest in the municipalities as well. If you look at the Municipalities of Mexico State page, just about every blue link goes to an article I have stuck my fingers into. Much of that was because my students last year, when I worked in Toluca started out with these. (Not teaching this semester but hope to next semester) Be careful with the Enciclopedia de los Municipios tho... I have found some really bad information on them, like typos that put coloinal events in the 1300's, not to mention there is a lot of info that would be of no real use to our encyclopedia. For population figures, elevation, coordinates and list of communities within the municipal jurisdiction I like to use INEGI's site as it has the most up-to-date figures. The last municipality I did was Almoloya del Río. Im trying to standardize the format for these articles - at least for the State of Mexico. I see you separate town and municipality. Had an argument some time back as to whether or not to separate town from municipality. I think for central and southern Mexico it is best to combine them as either the town/city is co-extensive with the municipality's territory or it is the only real town of any size in the area. In the northern states, like Durango or Baja California, they are separate and it kinda makes sense as there are only 5 municipalities in BC (as opposed to 570 for Oaxaca) and these municipalities are divided into districts.. so they function more like counties rather than as extension of neighborhoods of the principle town... like they do here in the south. Actually, my employment situation as been quite slow these past few months so Ive been working a lot on Wikipedia.Thelmadatter (talk) 17:11, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RFC[edit]

I've seen you active on Wikipedia:WikiProject Mexico, and would like you comments on proposal to create a standard naming scheme for Mexican municipalities and cities.  LinguistAtLarge  00:20, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NUTS - most of these cities from same named municipios barely have enough information to split them apart. Personally I think it would make a lot more sense to let the original municpios descriptions to develop before nitpicking them their main cities, usually without additional information, into different subject. Mexican Federal Highways[edit]

Hi Aille. Sorry to see you are a bit tied at present but I've stubbed the highways of Mexico. Could you please help expand any of them when you have a moment as nationally they are quite important for the country's infrastructure The Bald One White cat 20:56, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I had a job explaining to a new page patroller the other night that these are actually national roads and have major significance. If you expand them it will make my job worthwhile. I expanded a few but I felt they were imoortant infrastructually for Mexico. Good news, Nepal will be completed later and I am begin to concentrate on Mexican municiipalities again The Bald One White cat 13:52, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merging histories of duplicate articles[edit]

Thanks for [Wikipedia_talk:How_to_fix_cut-and-paste_moves#Merging_histories_of_duplicate_articles|your alert]], and sorry it went unheeded so long. The (somewhat bizarre) template is still not that well known! (It's not really a complete answer, but it's the most practical one we have. I respond in that talk secn to another aspect of what you asked.

Saludo! Is it possible to fill empty sections in this article or at least to provide links to the corresponding laws? I've tried myself to find them but failed. --Koryakov Yuri (talk) 18:39, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
