Speedy deletion nomination of Soles Of Passion[edit]

Hello 1987atomheartbrother,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Soles Of Passion for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Trivialist (talk) 00:25, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't delete the article; I just tagged it for review by an administrator, because the article didn't demonstrate why Soles of Passion met the notability standards required of every article subject. The administrator who deleted it did so because they agreed with this.
If you would like to continue to work on the article, you can create a draft version in your userspace at User:1987atomheartbrother/Soles of Passion, being sure to add references and sources that show that Soles of Passion meets Wikipedia's standards for notability. Orphaned non-free image File:ScottPageAutograph.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:ScottPageAutograph.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 21:40, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Stefan2: Thanks so much for your note. I think the image is useful but I don't get the sense other editors or patrollers agree, so I removed it voluntarily: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Non-free_content_review#File:ScottPageAutograph.jpg. I wish it'd be recognized as meeting the required minimum... but apparently it just doesn't. --1987atomheartbrother (talk) 03:48, 8 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Draft:Machan Taylor requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://copyvios.toolforge.org/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&oldid=1020834477&action=compare&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.machantaylor.com%2Fbio and https://copyvios.toolforge.org/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&oldid=1020834477&action=compare&url=https%3A%2F%2Fplanetbaobab.travel%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2Fover-the-apsidnk%2F61e40b-margaret-taylor-singer. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for message, pinging User:Sphilbrick User:Hoary for their info

Not sure what happened there, I got an 83% copyright violation from the script, but that doesn't look right, so I'll restore the draft soon. When you write about a person,

  • You must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that they meet the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls. Some of your sources are sub-optimal, IMDB, at least, isn't a reliable source.
  • You must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • There shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • You must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

The image is a different matter. You uploaded the image and released all the rights, but you are not the copyright owner, so you can't do that. You said the author, Maria Chiara Freddura, had released the rights "Directly from the photographers", but we have no evidence for that, and the photo has Dion Ogust as the photographer. Commons won't host images unless the copyright has verifiably been released to us. You can contest the deletion on the image page on commons, see the first line uhder the pink bit, but if it's deleted you will have to upload again when copyright has been sorted. I'm not an admin on commons, so I can't restore images there.

Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:33, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jimfbleak: Just a small note from me as somebody who ocassionally edits over at commons: You usally don't need to reupload a media file that has been deleted as a copyright violation. If the permission statement sent to OTRS mentions the deleted file, the folks at OTRS will request /perform undeletion automatically once the permission stuff is resolved. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:58, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Victor Schmidt, thanks for that. My one attempt to get admin rights at commons, many years ago, was rejected, so apart from uploading files myself and nominating copyright violations for deletion, I don't have much involvement there, but I'm grateful for your reassurance on that point Jimfbleak - talk to me? 19:27, 1 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
