A tag has been placed on your user page, User:TRprodeditor, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. August 2022[edit]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.
Shared accounts are not permitted. Cullen328 (talk) 16:24, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I am an employee of Trader Corporation (Canada); this account is not actually shared – I used the plural in the user page description out of habit in any "outside-facing" communication. I created the account because I saw that the Trader Corporation page had a "needs expansion" tag and, being one of relatively few employees that have been here since the company's sale in 2011, thought I could contribute.

I've read the guidelines on paid contribution and conflict of interest; I am not trying to promote the company, just flesh out the history section and give a brief overview of the current company operations (classifieds, editorial, and B2B). Our marketing team is aware that I created this account and they understand that I will only be contributing factual, neutral information unrelated to their campaigns or activities. However, given the conflict of interest concerns, I could instead provide the suggested edits (and accompanying sources) in the talk page. Thank you very much! Decline reason:

I concur with the blocking admin that your current username violates the username policy. You say you are the inaugural holder of the position, but you could theoretically pass the account to a successor to your position. Accounts are strictly single person use only. Please propose a more individualistic username(your real name is not required). I think that it is possible for you to be unblocked, but I am not prepared to do so based on your responses here. Press releases have almost zero value as a source on Wikipedia- if the only source for a piece of information is a press release, it is doubtful as to whether that information should be on Wikipedia. This indicates to me that perhaps you don't entirely understand our policies even if you understand some aspects of them. For this reason, I must decline your request. You may make another for someone else to review. 331dot (talk) 23:33, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You haven't proposed a new username. Do you understand that the main purpose of Wikipedia is to summarize what independent reliable sources say about a topic, not what it says about itself? In other words, we would need sources written by others that say what your company history is, not what it considers to be its own history. This does not include press releases, staff interviews, announcements of routine business activities, or other primary sources. I just want you to understand what you are getting into. 331dot (talk) 20:54, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for reviewing my appeal! My username identifies my position at the company (production editor), and I've been the only person with that position since it was created, so it shouldn't violate the username policy. I understand your concern about the nature of contributing to Wikipedia; I created the account to fill in some events in the History section (a few acquisitions, and I don't think there's any way to jazz them up for anyone not in the business) and update the logo (it changed last year). Updating the History section will require a couple of press releases, but I'm only using them for dates and business names, which are non-controversial details. As for the AutoTrader.ca section, I'll make suggestions in the Talk page for possible additions (I'll just provide the sources, not the content itself). tl;dr: I love the marketing team, but I'm not doing their job for them. I understand the reason the appeal was declined and accept the decision. Thanks again for taking the time to review the block!
