User:Uncontroversial Obscurity‎

Hi,
what did I miss, where was the ban discussion?
Amalthea 15:19, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

I can only assume this was some kind of misunderstanding. I can't figure out from your contributions where you came across him, or where any discussion was, so I'll undo the block. From all I know this is the one declared account he is supposed to edit from. Amalthea 15:27, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
(edit conflict) A checkuser confirmed a sock farm, but all the other socks are already blocked. This seems deeper than a black and white case of socking and locked accounts though, is there something you want to shed light on?--v/r - TP 15:28, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
[1] This was the edit that caught my attention by the way.--v/r - TP 15:31, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
Ah, OK. Thanks for the reply! Amalthea 16:09, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
(ec) Yes, prompted by Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Alarbus and some private discussions he disclosed them, and returned to his one old account (whether the accounts were used inappropriately is not clear cut IMO). He's in talks with Arbcom about the situation.
Cheers, Amalthea 15:37, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
Alright, well you seem to be more informed than me on this so I'll defer to your judgement.--v/r - TP 16:11, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
And he moved on. --Guerillero | My Talk 23:36, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
Well, sorta. He has let ArbCom know what his new account is, so if you "discover" him, just leave him be. 28bytes (talk) 00:47, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
He shouldn't self-out himself like he did here: [2]--v/r - TP 01:24, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
That account wasn't a secret... it was his "ArbCom-approved" account: [3]. 28bytes (talk) 01:38, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Anonymoususer042

What the hell is going on with this guy? All I have done is add a reference to an article he is creating and welcomed him. And he is creating Long-term abuse/Darkness Shines? He also blanked my userpage which I had assumed was a mistake, but having seen that I suspect not. Darkness Shines (talk) 22:44, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

There are at least two admins keeping an eye on him now, and several editors. He is either a new editor who has taken your welcome way out of context, to the point that competence is questioned, or they are deliberately trolling. Either way, we have to AGF for now that it's the former and that isn't enough to block yet.--v/r - TP 22:47, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
I have asked the admin who deleted the page to let me know what was on there, I may have just simply stumbled across a sock. If I can see what he wrote I might get a glue as to who it is. Darkness Shines (talk) 22:51, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
I saw it before it was deleted. It said to the effect of "He put a patronizing comment on my page in the guise of a welcome".--v/r - TP 22:58, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
Your shitting me? How is that long term abuse, he should have gone for short term abuse, perhaps he does not like cookies lmao. Ok thanks. Darkness Shines (talk) 23:00, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

with your permission...

Allow me to step aside. Here's what I'm going to do, and if you disagree you can revert me. I'll remove the conversation on the talk page and replace it with a small neutral comment that we had a side conversation and decided to remove it. I won't hide that we talked, but H will be free to ignore and you two can talk without any further comment from me.--Cube lurker (talk) 03:44, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

I don't know, you can if you want. I'm not even sure how Hipocrite will take it anyway. I'm just tired of arguing, we never solve anything, and figured I'd give it a shot. He might catch on to the same two sentences that you did and then we'd go down the same street.--v/r - TP 03:47, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
It's done. If you want my guess his reaction will be closer to my reaction looking at what you wrote, but he'll get a fair shot at reading your words and making his own call.--Cube lurker (talk) 03:56, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
I'll look at rewriting it or explaining it.--v/r - TP 03:57, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

No worries. I've got a lot on my plate these last few months so I need folks to ping me about stuff to remind me.--v/r - TP 15:37, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Agreed

I have thought long and hard about your request for me to avoid discussing things with you on your talk page, and I agree to it with the following caveat - you are not to find yourself oddly attracted to situations I am involved in, and I will endeavor to do the same to you. Given that you have stated that I "really get under [your] nerves," I assume you are well aware that your administrative tools and me should never cross paths. Hipocrite (talk) 12:30, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

I'm good with both caveats. No tools when it involves you and no stalking. Got it.--v/r - TP 12:36, 10 April 2012 (UTC)
I also just want to point out, I don't mind you bringing your opinion to my attention here, you're welcome here. I just don't want to get into a back and forth argument. So let's put our points out there for the other and then just let it go.--v/r - TP 14:47, 10 April 2012 (UTC)

Thank you sir,

Hello TParis,

I wanted to extend a word of appreciation on two fronts at this time. First, as an aging American, I wanted to thank you for all you do in real life to protect our country. Now, secondly I'd like to note with appreciation the role you accepted in the recent recall procedure at Courcelles talk page. As I believe that you hold Courcelles in high regard (as I do), then I would have to think that it was not always an easy task to remain objective and dispassionate at various times and throughout some of the postings. I think you did an excellent job at clerking a difficult set of threads. Thank you for your work there. With a great deal of respect and admiration, I wish you and yours all the very best. Cheers. — Ched : ? 09:53, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the support. As to the other part, it wasn't easy.--v/r - TP 13:55, 11 April 2012 (UTC)

Index and Toolserver wiki note

I see that you have not yet registered on the Toolserver wiki which I prefer you to because the index page located here shows a error. Without the index it costs me a lot of clicks (thus, energy) to open your other tools such as automated edits. The index button is in your edit counter.--Ankit MaityTalkContribs 06:54, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Do you have any idea how you've just come off?--v/r - TP 12:59, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
So TParis should inconvenience himself and create an index at Wiki.toolserver just so it won't be an inconvenience for you? I would say you just came off as selfish.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 13:03, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Hang on, Cyberpower, no need to pile on here and certainly no need to call people names. The point is to get people to reflect on themselves rather than to throw names at them.--v/r - TP 13:05, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Indeed, almost certainly a language barrier thing. WormTT · (talk) 13:11, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Sorry. I had no intentions of name calling. I simply see that as an act of selfishness.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 13:17, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Cyberpower, I never forced him to do it, did I. I just asked him politely to do it. If he doesn't do it, I would never ever force him or keep babbling about it. Actually to open Automated edit counter now I had to go to X!'s index and then get the URL and replace soxred93 with tparis.--Ankit MaityTalkContribs 05:47, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

OR is still there - I think the version you would need to go to is at [4] as we now have an editor saying the lede needs no sources even if it is clearly wrong <g>. Collect (talk) 20:29, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

FYI

Noticed the message "Access denied for user 'tparis'@'%.toolserver.org' to database 'u_soxred93'" at the top of the results when I checked my contribs at http://toolserver.org/~tparis/topedits/ . The output otherwise seemed fine, just thought I'd mention it. 28bytes (talk) 23:03, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Fixed.--v/r - TP 01:02, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
That was quick! Thanks, 28bytes (talk) 05:03, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

One Direction member articles

Hi. You deleted and redirected the One Direction member articles as the result of WP:Articles for deletion/Louis Tomlinson. I saw WP:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive746#Canvassing in AFD and noticed that there might be a WP:Merge and delete problem, as User:Werldwayd copied the articles back during the AfD. The diff is messy, but I cleaned it up off-wiki and saw that approximately ten sentences with a small amount of creativity had been added.

I think that an attribution fix is necessary. The easiest method is to restore the page histories while leaving the protection in place. If a user wanted to defy consensus and recreate the articles at different names, the text is already accessible at One Direction#Members. Let me know if I should contact User:JohnCD, who closed WP:Articles for deletion/Louis Tomlinson (2nd nomination). I can go to WP:Deletion review if you think the formal process is necessary. Thanks. Flatscan (talk) 04:29, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

That's fine, we can restore the history and protect the redirect.--v/r - TP 00:57, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. The five articles are linked from either AfD. I wasn't clear before: ten sentences total, 1-3 per article. Flatscan (talk) 04:32, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Eskan Village

Hello! I recently saw that you're in the Air Force, and I was wondering if you could help me out with some sources. In my sandbox I'm working on an article for Eskan Village AB in Riyadh, KSA. I started working on the page a year and a half ago, and ran into a roadblock when I noticed the only source I could find was globalsecurity.org. I was wondering if you would happen to know about any additional sources I could look at, or even where I could go to get additional info. Any help would be much appreciated! Also, what's your AFSC? Ishdarian 03:15, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Your best bet ia to see if you can dig up what NAF or MAJCOM the air base fell under. Then you can call up the history office for more information. You could even call up the Air Force Historical Research Agency for some sources. I'm a 3D074: Computer Systems Programming Craftsman.--v/r - TP 05:06, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
Since the base falls under AFCENT, it looks like it's probly ACC and 9AF. Many thanks for your help, sergeant! Ishdarian 05:36, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

An observation

Reading through Why I Hate Speedy Deleters again and had a thought. Feel free to tell me if my perception isn't particularly new or novel. The term itself "Speedy Delete" naturally brings up an image that this is an efficient and easy way to simply delete something, just like AFD but quicker, when in fact, it is a completely different process. Maybe we invite misuse by the name itself. We have speedy delivery, buy gas using "Speed Passes", we "Speed Dial" with our phones, "Speedy" was the mascot for Alka Seltzer. We speed walk, speed in our cars and a few drug abusers take "speed" to stay up all night and get more work done. In all these examples, "Speed" simply means to do the same thing only faster. Since "speedy delete" is not the same thing as a fast AFD, but is instead a process to remove material that clearly and obviously does not belong and to which a discussion isn't really necessary. Here at Wikipedia, the equivelent of "Speed Dial" isn't CSD, it is "Snow delete", "Snow keep" or "Speedy keep" at AFD. The name itself does seem to feed the misconception about the proper uses for it, and a different name *may* lead to a different perception of what it is. It may be wishful thinking, but we are preconditioned to prejudge something by its name, or else you wouldn't have cars named "Cougar", "Viper" or "Mustang". As someone who has spent more than two decades in marketing, my experience is that a name makes all the difference in how something is perceived. When we take a very mundane (or even marginal) product and put a sexy name on it, that is called "putting lipstick on a pig", as you haven't changed what it is, only people's first impression of it. And it sells. As humans, we like terms that are easy to judge, and it is difficult to get us to see something in a different light once the first impression is established. Obviously, the very idea of changing a name is huge and beyond the scope of any talk page or single venue, and this may be no more than an academic exercise, but I am interested in your thoughts on this since you appear to have a passion about the topic. Dennis Brown ® © 15:11, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

You might be right about the name, but I look at it like this. An AFD and PROD both require 7 days. So anything short of that is speedy. When we look at speedy deletion, imagine it rather as if "Significance not asserted" was a topic at AFD with seven days of discussion. It has the consensus to delete based on the strict criteria. Some folks may feel it's subjective, I think it's only subjective if you want it to be. I'm very lax on what is a claim of significance. Basically, if it has a claim that is short of fantasy then I count it as credible. It's hard to describe what CSD is supposed to be, but I can say that it is not meant as a way to save everyone time at AFD. In some ways, I feel like CSD is a COI filter. Just think about it: almost all CSD criteria are tailored to preventing people with a connection to the subject of the article from posting it. Spam, people, companies, websites, attacks against living people, bands, hoaxes made up in school one day, ect ect. CSD is for editors whose intentions are not to improve the encyclopedia but rather to use the encyclopedia to further their own goals; if that makes sense.
Anyway, the reason I am passionate about it is because I think it's important to get it right. As I said earlier, after Arbcom, Oversight, and Checkuser: CSD has the least oversight of all the other admin tasks on Wikipedia. When we're entrusted with the tools, it's important that we make sure that we are following the community's consensus because no one else (except other busy sysops) can double check our work. Renaming it might make a difference on the perception of it's purpose, but I don't think it'll help people understand the criteria any better. We just need sysops who get it right to make sure to warn folks who get it wrong.--v/r - TP 15:24, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
Speaking only from the side of the average editor, which is the only side I know, the criteria strictness isn't as obvious as it could be. One of the problems of Twinkle is one of it's advantages: Three clicks and you are done. I don't have the stats, but the ratios would interesting to see, comparing manual and automated submissions and their success ratio. Obviously it is up to the admin at CSD to make the final call, but the ease, lack of warnings in the tools, quickness and lack of administrative consequences seem to create a situation that keeps CSD backlogged, putting pressure on admins to be quicker about filtering through the pile. At least with AFDs, you have to cobble together a rationale and put your "opinion" in front of the masses, not just one admin, so ironically, people may be more inclined to exercise a greater degree of caution with AFD (possible confrontation) than CSD (no consequences). I'm just kind of thinking out loud. It is only recently that I have even given serious thought about it. Perception is part of the problem, but the whole system almost seems to encourage large amounts of CSD nominations, if you think about it. Dennis Brown © 01:18, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Heh, that's not neccessary. I could always query the database to find the status of the user's access. I just think non-admins should be discouraged from using the template (*poke* like you).--v/r - TP 18:07, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
That's what my patch would be. It would check to see if the user it updates the adminstats for is a sysop. If not, instead of updating or creating the adminstats page, it displays instead: Adminstats for this user is not allowed because the user place username here is not an administrator of the English Wikipedia.

In regards to comments on my RFA

Hi TP, I just wanted to say thank you so much for the comments on my RFA. They are probably the most constructive words I have seen on this project, and at an RfA too! MrLittleIrish (talk) © 09:11, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

No problem. Keep up the good work. I left a question for you so you could demonstrate your level of clue. In my opinion, it's a tough one with multiple ways to answer. Make sure to do your research before answering.--v/r - TP 12:51, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Hey, I've left an answer for your question, to be fair, it wasn't that difficult, you just have to break each part down. Can you take a look and give me some feedback? MrLittleIrish (talk) © 13:24, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Sure, here is some feedback and another administrator may do it differently. There is an Arbcom case regarding Abortion articles with discretionary sanctions. So I would remind both editors of that. Either one might be under sanctions so I'd check that too. The behavior hasn't risen to the extreme that a topic ban would be in order, but I'd remind both editors that uninvolved administrators can impose topic bans for edit warring. As far as rollback, since both editors were using it abusively, I might be inclined to remove their rollback rights. Rollback should only be used for blatant vandalism. The clue that I was looking for this was the "neither are sysops" part because rollback is bundled with the toolset and can't be removed without a recall/desysop. But it can be removed from non-sysops for warring. I would remind both editors that discussion does not take place in edit summaries and that they need to discuss it on the talk page. I would remind Editor A that per WP:BRD, they should've initiated the talk page discussion. I'd also recommend that they take the source to the reliable sources noticeboard for another opinion on the strength of the source. I might block based on edit warring because WP:3RR is not a right or privilege. Edit warring can be occurring even if neither or only one editor crosses the 3 reverts line. Because the edit waring is extended throughout the day, I've no reason to assume Editor A has stopped reverting simply because they are only at 2. If it all happened over the course of an hour and four or five hours later Editor A hasn't reverted then I could assume they've stopped. But because it has been extended over the entire day, it's just as likely that the editor hasn't logged on since the last revert and there is still a likelihood that they will continue reverting. So a preventative block here could be an option for both editors. Like I said, other administrators may answer it differently, and maybe some of my stalkers will weigh in, but that's how I'd look at it.--v/r - TP 13:37, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
That's essentially what I would work towards, however WP:AGF would prevent me from blocking straight away. MrLittleIrish (talk) © 13:57, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

My RFA

Hi, I just wanted to say thank you for participating in my RFA, and that I have taken your comments on board and hope to improve my experience here on Wikipedia. Hopefully the next time I run, I will be of a level that you can support. MrLittleIrish (talk) © 15:31, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

J'accuse!

Hi, TP. I'm my otherwise happy-go-lucky self, 'cept think there is manifest BITE-y-ness going on with User:Iamseba's contributions, and I think your speedy deletions are part of it. --Shirt58 (talk) 14:09, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

I think your over-applying WP:AGF to this user. Not trying to be bite the newbie, but had you read those articles it's clear they were promotional. I'm also thinking WP:CIR here as well.--v/r - TP 15:03, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
First of all, thank you for your response. I've read it and taken some time to consider what you wrote. With respect, I disagree with much of it. While (and see my quiet word to the new user here) the deletions were of course technically correct, I still think this matter was not within the collaborative nature and welcoming and inclusive aims of the Wikipedia project. In my opinion, competency should not be assessed over a very few newbie edits. With appropriate guidance, Iamseba may have become a a productive editor. Or maybe not. This is moot, as the editor would appear to be unlikely to edit again. Apologies for the rant.--Shirt58 (talk) 11:47, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
PS: Didn't see this until just past mid-day, UTC.--Shirt58 (talk) 12:12, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
I understand your point of view and generally I'd agree but in this case I just felt otherwise. I think we have an editor with one specific purpose.--v/r - TP 13:40, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

You closed the Afd Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Common Dead with the result: delete. The page was moved to the incubator and a few days ago back into mainspace. Just curious: shouldn't this needed a DRV? OTOH: do you think the contributors addressed the problems? mabdul 20:14, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

I agree. The article has not changed much since the AFD. If it were completely different, then I'd be inclined to WP:NOTBURO but since it's almost identical and contains the same problems I think it should go to WP:DRV. Try taking it up with User:Backtable and if he's not receptive then let me know and I'll handle it.--v/r - TP 20:22, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I was wondering why you deleted the article on the Youtube video maker, Tomska. I believe that he is popular enough to have a wikipedia article written about him. What were the reason or reasons why the page was deleted?

I took care of it. You know, if you make a decent request to UTRS or Arbcom, you might be able to get your account unblocked if there has been no socking. I mean, you were blocked for threats but we all understand how people get pissed off when they are blocked.--v/r - TP 12:48, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
T, thank you. I appreciate that and the advice. Although it was not precisely accurate that I was blocked for threats, neither have I violated the block or anything like that in any way. Hi I don't really understand how to do things here, I was going to post this request challenging the deletion --User:zoeblackmore sorry if i get it wrong. This artist career is taking off, this deletion is premature. Her mix-tape and F64 both received very positive critical acclaim, she has a world wide contract with Sony, she is touring and remixes of her first single are out (actual release June/July). Her mix-tape and a re-mix of her first single have already featured on BBC radio 1 and BBC radio 1 xtra. Maybe the page was in its infancy, but should be expanded rather than deleted. (I must admit i don't understand how to do the later of the steps in the deletion review 3-6 request). The was an identical page under Misha B that has been deleted too...one page should be restored. Misha has suffered various attacks online and I am not sure if this deletion is one of them. Zoeblackmore (talk) 21:39, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

You did get the instructions wrong. You're supposed to first talk to me about it before going to DRV, but that stuff you posted is meant to go on a DRV not on my page. The page you need is WP:DRV. But perhaps I can save you some time. It isn't the deletion that was premature, it was the article. When she has a notable career, then we write an article about it. When you say, "her career is taking off" what you need to realize is that Wikipedia will cover her after it has already taken off. That's how things work here. We are never ahead of the pack, we always trail behind because we need to stay neutral. If you still want to go to WP:DRV, that's fine. But keep in mind that when we delete content, it is still saved in our database. When he career actually does take off, we'll restore the article.--v/r - TP 22:15, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Yup as a novice I did get a little confused :) was going to post to DRV and was unsure of how to contact you, but then worked it out and contacted you first. I believe the is enough evidence to say her career has taken off, enough to not warrent the temporary deletion of the article.Zoeblackmore (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 03:16, 26 May 2012 (UTC).

OK. Well DRV is the place to go if you have new evidence that was not discussed in the AFD. Keep in mind, however, that they will not discuss the same arguments over again. DRV will only hear you out if 1) The AFD was closed improperly (it wasn't, believe me), or 2) You have new evidence to support notability.--v/r - TP 13:44, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Adminstats

I think I came up with a working patch of adminstats that will prevent non admins from using adminstats. Would you allow me to run adminstats for one day or better yet, would you install the patch on your bot? That way your bot won't be violating bot policy. I already installed it on my bot in case your bot goes out of commission someday.—cyberpower ChatOnline 22:15, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

I use github. Just make the changes here and put in a pull request. I'll give your patch a try. https://github.com/TParis/Wiki-Bots/blob/master/enwiki-adminstats.php --v/r - TP 22:17, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
GitHub huh? I used to use it. I'll put it in later today. I have to do a few errands. Not to mention that I have final exams this Tuesday and Wednesday so, I haven't been very active on Wikipedia lately. I've also been spending time working on Cyberbot II for the WP:CVU per request.—cyberpower ChatOnline 22:27, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
Pull request sent. I hope this works.—cyberpower ChatOnline 01:54, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

Don't you have a log of what happened. Mine records on operational log even if disabled. Was the error at GitHub or toolserver?—cyberpower ChatOffline 11:52, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
It's supposed to email me the error but I was too tired to look or work on it.--v/r - TP 13:43, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
Oh. I ran the same patch on mine using simple wiki and it appears it crashes the script from the start as the report log in toolserver doesn't even mention it trying to start up peachy. There is obviously a syntax error somewhere. I'm still studying the peachy framework but without a manual to help me understand it, I'm not getting very far with understanding Peachy. From what I am reading from the framework, I believe I can make a simpler patch that can work.—cyberpower ChatOnline 14:18, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

I sent another pull request to you. Be careful. I closed one because it had a syntax error. Use the open pull request.—cyberpower ChatOnline 21:40, 26 May 2012 (UTC)

X!'s Edit Counter and apostrophes

And some other characters...

Hi. This tool does not properly handle some characters. For example, it offered me a link to opt-in, and it landed me at m:User:Br. I didn't notice and created a page there. It will probably be gone when you see this (I del-tagged it), but you'll see a del-log. I did create the opt-in page manually at m:User:Br'er Rabbit/EditCounterGlobalOptIn.js, and the tool sees it. Cheers, Br'er Rabbit (talk) 08:20, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

I'll look into it. Keep in mind though that it's really not my code. I adopted it when another user retired and I do my best to maintain it.--v/r - TP 02:09, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

TPBot

Methinks something has upset it... [10] WormTT≡talk≡ 12:48, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

LMFAO! I seriously thought the bot took on a life on it's own and skynet was coming alive when I read that. Wouldn't surprise me of Terminator was coming through since the Zombie Apocalypse has begun [11]. I'll see about fixing it.--v/r - TP 14:55, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
I did think it was trying to redefine time! Not the best use of it's time, I must say. Having said that, it may have just been because the RfA wasn't shut quickly enough, it only happened after the RfA had been closed, so it's not the end of the world! WormTT≡talk≡ 14:58, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
The bot used to do that when X! was running it. I haven't seen the code but I saw it explained somewhere that it does that because it's trying to guess where certain things are, and one of the things it looks for is a timestamp, and if someone places their sig before where the time stamp goes it thinks the sig is the timestamp. Soap 01:26, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, that's pretty much it but it's not like the bot is making a terrible guess. The bot splits the page up into groups: header, support, neutral, and oppose. It then tries to find the date in the header but something about how the template is closed is making the regex unhappy. I looked through it but I couldn't figure out why it chose that particular chunk of paragraph from the user's nom acceptance statement.----TP (alt) 01:53, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
It happened once and it can happen again. This time it's not serious but what if it decides to pull the header next time. Talk about major disruption on Wikipedia. A fix needs to be placed on the code.—cyberpower ChatOffline 01:56, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
The thing is, it only happens when an AFD is closed so it technically shouldnt display at all, let alone the wrong data. Don't know, but as Soap said: this has been happening for a long time and it hasn't caused serious disruption yet. Besides, it parses the Wiki code, not the HTML, so there is no concern of it inserting Wikipedia's header into the template. When I said header, I meant the part in the RFA before the !voting.----TP (alt) 02:18, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
AfD? You mean RfA right? Well either way, I'm interested to know why that happens. I will see if I can fix it.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 10:11, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey kid.

Keep This event does NOT fail WP:CRYSTALBALL as it has been announced on the strikeforce.com website. Also it does NOT fail WP:SPORTSEVENT or WP:EVENT, because it is not only determining a champion in a top league, it's determining 2 champions in a top league. Therefore, MtKing's claims are hereby irrelevant, and this article should be kept. JonnyBonesJones (talk) 05:11, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

I italicized the parts you conveniently left out which are valid arguments against deletion which I read in the Wikipedia guidelines. I also dont appreciate you calling me a "fanboy". I take the sport I love very seriously, and you couldnt handle the training these men and women do. I dont care if you're an admin on wikipedia. That takes no heart nor skill. Show some respect. JonnyBonesJones (talk) 06:33, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your concern about this article. Your immense respect and the effort you put in to discover my age so you could address me accurately have fueled in me a fire of compassion which necessitates that I immediately reconsider this deletion. Ok, I've reconsidered and I stand by the deletion. Have a nice day.--TParis-alt (talk) 12:11, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
So explain how those guidelines are irrelevant because you said so? Also it does NOT fail WP:SPORTSEVENT or WP:EVENT, because it is not only determining a champion in a top league, it's determining 2 champions in a top league.

Strikeforce is a top league, and there are 2 championship fights on that card. Therefore it is notable and you deleting the article was a wrong action. JonnyBonesJones (talk) 15:42, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Then take it to WP:DELETIONREVIEW and see how they respond. Responding hostilly to an editor, let alone an admin, will get you nowhere. @TParis: saw your removal and edit summary of my comment. I won't point it out again.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 16:25, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Okay, but not all of the rollbackers had 300 edits when they became rollback rights. Bus1110 (talk) 13:10, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

So, I will try to make this as boring as possible, as the above post took the fun out of this. Recently, you took over X!'s stats account on the toolserver, and did the editor statistics thing. Greeting TP

I lament that you are struggling with the content reversion which occurred at the current open ArbCom case. It is not because it affects your !vote, (those are small potatoes) but because it appears to affect your apportionment of rightful tranquility. My comments to follow are a predominant endeavor to restore that tranquility, irrespective of the RfA.

ArbCom has been beset by a near constant decry since Betacommand/3, throughout Rich Farmbrough, unto the current open case. Consider this thread, opened before the current case and still open. where I initiated this point, formally; in motion.

I believe there should be a delineated process to formally object to an inclusion on some ground, requiring the committee either sustain or overrule the objection in proximity. There are too many things that should be "removed, refactored, or redacted" which are not! and legitimate objections fall upon blind eyes.Removed, refactored, or redacted is straight out of the current policy language; for a provision impotent from absence of deed

Along with the above, do trust me when I say there are many other links I could have shown, and will if that is for you, necessary. And remain cognizant that this is an evidence page and the portent of its existence has (not might have) an impact on a living person. By the venues nature this impact is significant! From that mindset consider the remarks by Cla68. Temper this consideration by asking yourself if it passes muster for BLP inclusion; for a similar motivation is at core. Weigh this consideration against the following hypothetical which premises a scenario where you were the central party at an ArbCom case and I opened evidence against you as if in the following manner.

TParis as been admonished by a number of Commons administrators for synonymous conduct in the past. His refusal to adhere to their caution, while mocking its relevance, is evident by his actions; simply for having uploaded the file! [dif] which is the exact counter-equivalent of the counsel, he had been shown.

For the scenario, let's premise that I am a Commons administrator and I strongly dislike you but this can not be proven, nor is it known, even by you.

I presume you would agree that such a statement in kind would sit in damaging light if held to stand against you especially if for example that number "of Commons administrators" happened to be one (perhaps even me). Isn't it better for everyone, if even by deeds of enforcement, for proactive measures to be in vogue? Measures that would require evidence to meet a BLP standard, where we couldn't weasel in puffed sentiments and vague innuendo. If you simply read any closed case, you will see that they do not pass the simple scrutiny of applying a BLP inclusion standard.

That is unacceptable to me, and LR is practically one of the first I've ever seen to lay measure on such an important page as an ArbCom case. Though stifling chastisement is the oft consequence of doing a right thing, as you apparently know, it is still counterproductive, as you are now struggling to remember. I honestly hope this gives you enough perspective to allow for your understanding why people were in predominant support of LR's action. Very best regards - My76Strat (talk) 05:26, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

I understand that part and it makes perfect sense. What I dont understand is that if Lord Roem was enforcing this new role as clerk to enforce strictly relevant evidence, then why is the diff to a section of the Fae RFC that I hatted still on the evidence page after Lord Roem removed it several times? Did the Arbs eventually decide that it should be left there? That's what confuses me. Everyone says the removal was appropriate, and yet it has been restored. I don't understand.--v/r - TP 05:35, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
I think it is a mixture of old habits being hard to break and because everything is so current that it hasn't even been answered yet. You have a very legitimate reason to seek that answer, and force a reply, especially if it has a potential impact. All I know is LR is a new clerk and his action is a shear byproduct of being bold; a rookie's mistake perhaps. As in any arena of like office, the new guy is expected to move slowly with demonstrations of caution. In other words they are encouraged to act when clearly supported by policy, and defer to observance as the more qualified veterans handle the more complex issues. It only happens that LR saw the crystal clear equivalent of policy endorsed examples where he would be expected to have been decisive. And he was just new enough to do it. I am equally certain the enshrined ignorance that couldn't see reason to support your hatting action, is working against LR. There may even be some waffling, IDK. My understanding is that a contentious statement was not supported by the [dif1] shown, and that now the identical content is reinstated because it is supported by [diff2]. If that understanding is correct, the case is open and closed on that alone. I would have to look much closer than the cursory look I am standing on now. I will say however, I was immediately concerned at the simple opening by Cla68 under other editors where "a number of editors" is premised as a basis. I am the guy who wants that to say what that number is; so it doesn't carry inflamed sentiments. This can only be done through a clerking action and we have to support efforts to make it so. My76Strat (talk) 06:10, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Well all in all, I specifically didn't oppose the guy over it. I can't oppose someone for learning their role even if I question the decision. It just left me wondering what was happening. There seems to be overwhelming opinion that his actions with correct. I'm also a bit concerned about how quickly support flocked to a relatively new user with around 4000 edits but I guess I can overlook both if I can find a good example in his contribs that would show admin behavior.--v/r - TP 15:52, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Rollback rights

Hello, if you look at my reverts today, can I have the roolback right now please?

Regards LZ6387 (talk) 11:24, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

No. I don't know how it works in the Germany Wikipedia, but here we want to see that you intend to actually use the tool before giving it out. You have 75 edits to this 'pedia and all of your reverts are over a couple of hours yesterday. Not that I don't value your contributions and work yesterday, but I'd like to see dedicated editing over a period of at least a week. Otherwise, I feel like you are collecting rights for no other reason than to have them. Please come back when you have about 300 edits and a solid week of editing. Also, be sure to warn vandals when you revert them.--v/r - TP 16:03, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Okay, then I will go on when I come back from holiday in mid-July. Regards LZ6387 (talk) 16:53, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

suboptimal TPBot edit

This edit misses an obvious optimization. Undoubtedly, the end effect is the same as the optimal one as duplicate template parameters use the right-most instance. But this should be an easy bot fix and doing so will prevent editor confusion when they see the strange duplication. Thanks! —EncMstr (talk) 18:06, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

You're right, I'll take a look. That shouldn't happen.--v/r - TP 18:07, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
Forget my first comments: The edit was invalid to start with. It was not in an infobox. I have reverted it. —EncMstr (talk) 18:09, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
Well actually the edit was valid, just wrong. It doesn't have to be in an infobox, in fact if there is one in the infobox then it moves on. However, the coord should be in the lead.--v/r - TP 19:25, 1 June 2012 (UTC)

Was this edit really performed by a bot? Some entity seems to be fixated on display=inline, title. I reverted it, but I am really curious what motivates such an edit, whether bot or wetware. —EncMstr (talk) 05:26, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes, it was performed by a bot. It shouldn't have been though. The bot should've recognized the title already there and moved on. I'll look into it.--v/r - TP 13:06, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Am I annoying or frustrating you?

You seem to be ignoring my hails but seem to be responding to everyone else's. Am I in someway bothering or annoying you?—cyberpower ChatOnline 13:12, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Nope. Just havent had time to take care of your pull request yet.--v/r - TP 13:21, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
That's good. Just let me know if I am becoming a nuisance.—cyberpower ChatOnline 15:45, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
I know I may come across as pushy by writing this, but, could you pull the file and load into your toolserver. It's kind of eating at me that you are responding to everyone but not making the pull from GitHub. Your bot is violating policy by letting adminstats run at its current state. My patch that I developed for you takes care of the problem.—cyberpower ChatOnline 00:11, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
K.--v/r - TP 00:20, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Seems to be working. Good job!--v/r - TP 00:26, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
It does slow it down a bit as it checks to see if the user is an admin or not but it's the end result that counts. Thank you.—cyberpower ChatOnline 00:33, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
WAIT!! I see a bug that is causing it to not check properly. Change the code if( in_array( $rawuser, $admin ) ) { to if( in_array( $m[2], $admin ) ) {

I haven't coded this badly in a long. I couldn't see that bug until the script was en.wiki.—cyberpower ChatOnline 00:47, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Sorry about all of that TParis. I know you are very busy in real life. The mod I described above is the final fix needed to get the code running. This was originally in my script but for some reason an incorrect variable was placed in the pull request which caused issues. I guess I should've been more careful.—cyberpower ChatOnline 01:10, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Would you like me to submit another pull request to make it easier for you? There are a few formatting fixes I made to the output. I feel embarrassed and I feel like I am pushing your patience so I thank you for being able to put up with me.—cyberpower ChatOnline 01:14, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, if you send it tonight, I'll do the pull request before I go to bed.--v/r - TP 02:17, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Pull request sent. Thank you very much.—cyberpower ChatOffline 02:37, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
K, I did the pull and am running it manually. And no, thank you for doing the work to implement this.--v/r - TP 02:42, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
You're welcome but, I wish I was able to pull that off without all this drama.—cyberpower ChatOffline 02:50, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Are you sure you're running the right pull? I ran that exact code on simple wiki and denied non-admins and allowed admins. It's not denying me.—cyberpower ChatOffline 02:56, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
I ran the exact script as a test before sending it to you. This was the result on simple.wiki.—cyberpower ChatOffline 03:01, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
All I've done is merge and pull.--v/r - TP 03:15, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
That's weird. It should not have updated my stats. Is it exactly as it is written in GitHub? Something doesn't add up.—cyberpower ChatOffline 03:18, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm tired and I think you are too so I am going to run en.wiki adminstats on my toolserver disabling the editing part of it and look at its log tomorrow morning.—cyberpower ChatOffline 03:27, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
It doesn't make any sense. The simple wiki adminstats and the enwiki adminstats are the same script literally the same file. So why does it work on simple and not here?—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 12:20, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Somehow User:ProcseeBot is messing up the results of the script but why?—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 12:26, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
I've made a minor change to and am testing it out on en.wiki.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 12:57, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
According to my logs, it is now filtering out the non-admins. I will send you another pull request.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 13:49, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Pull request sent.cyberpower ChatLimited Access 13:49, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Ok, pulled. Ran the adminstats. Will check the results. Thanks again.--v/r - TP 22:52, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
It is now working as it should. Yay!!!!—cyberpower ChatOnline 00:15, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

My RFA Review

Hi, TParis! I have enabled edit stats on my account, so can you please tell me what to work on before my RFA? Thank You, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 17:39, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I will when I get a minute. I intended to do it yesterday, but when I saw you were up for editor review and there were others, I felt it was only fair that I review someone who had been waiting longer as well as you. So I did a short review on A412 yesterday.--v/r - TP 20:52, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! So far, the support from my Editor Review has been good. One user who commented at my ER wrote about when I removed some spam links from an article about mountain biking. I never really realized that people value my contributions, especially since anti-vandalism work is "behind the scenes" (If I become an Admin, I will to concentrate on Anti-Vandalism). I have started to participate in XFD's and 95% of my talk page edits are vandalism warnings. Please tell me what to work on for my RFA when you get a chance. Thank you! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 21:05, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
I thought that having a low edit count would be a problem, but judging from all of the support that the current candidate is recieving, I don't think that it will be a problem. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 11:28, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) However, if you are planning to work in anti-vandalism, the edit count expected is generally higher, because of the use of automated tools.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 11:34, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
You have an extremely low edit count. Just with that your RfA will have a hard time passing. Look at me, I would be snowed out if I were to apply at this time.—cyberpower ChatOffline 11:38, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm not having my RFA now. I'm having it around August, after I get 5-7K edits. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 12:18, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
Seems like Lord Roem's RFA is taking a turn for the worse. Please review me when you get a chance. Thanks, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 22:56, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Do you want me to email it to you or post it here? I'd prefer email. Can you enable email on your account?--v/r - TP 21:11, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
Hi! Thank you for reviewing me. I'd rather not enable the email feature because recently, my talk page has been vandalized multiple times and I don't want vandals being able to harass me on my e-mail. Please either post it here, or if it's confidential, please tell me and I will email you my real email, because I trust you with it because you're an admin. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 22:28, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
Vandals don't know your e-Mail and they would hardly start harassing your through your e-Mail. Vandals typically, vandalize any random page they come across for the heck of it. They don't intend you as their target of vandalism. I made a criteria page that you can look at here. Be sure you click on the links inside so you can get a good grasp of what to do in your RfA.—cyberpower ChatOnline 23:16, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
Send me an email by clicking "email this user" on the left of my page.--v/r - TP 23:28, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
Should I include my email address in the email? Electriccatfish2 (talk) 00:36, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
I'll just reply to your email.--v/r - TP 02:17, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your patience, but I don't see a link that says "email this user". Most account with email enabled have top icons that you click on to see a message. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 22:13, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

I see that you need to have email enabled, which I might do if my RFA succeeds. As for now, many editors who I trust have posted comments on my talk page on what to work on. They suggest working on article creation, DYK's, and GA's. Please post your feedback on your talk page, and I'll watch here and respond. Thanks again, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 22:17, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Ok. I have a few things I need to take care of but I've already written most of your review and I'll post it within the hour.--v/r - TP 22:43, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Great, thank you so much for all your time and effort, I know that you are busy off-Wiki with the Air Force and your family and I really appreciate it. Please post it here, as I have your page watchlisted. Thanks again, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 22:46, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Having looked at your contribs, it seems that one of your weakest spots is article creation. Right now, article creation is a hot topic in RFA. Not only do you have zero article creations, the one article you've spent the most edits on, Long_Beach_Police_Department_(New_York), is in a real sorry state. It only has two citations, uses two lists sections which are highly discouraged, has no infobox, the citations are not filled out with appropriate cite templates, there are citation needed tags, ect ect.
I see quite a few edits at WP:AIV. That's good, vandalism is a huge responsibility for administrators and you'll be expected to know how to deal with it. However, I dont see much experience outside of vandalism.
This AFD is problematic. Among other things, it shows lack of understanding of WP:Politician. Administrators, having the delete button, are expected to have an intimate understanding of not only all notability criteria but also the community's current interpretation of them. Your second !vote shows a lack of understanding how AFD works. AFD isn't a vote and all that was needed from you was the nomination. Then there is the non admin closure. While the intention was good, it showed boldness, and a chance to properly use IAR; it was not properly carried out and it was a bit inappropriate. It's better next time if you just strike your comments and withdrawn and allow an admin to close it. It is good you recognized the mistake and withdrew though, that shows character.
You lack a lot of experience in Articles for deletion. Here for example, you need to explain how this article meets a guideline as long as WP:N. AFDs are about discussion, not just throwing down WP:N and leaving. You've only participated in about 16 of them all in all. This is probably an area you should get more experience in before going for adminship. There is no better way to learn about all of our deletion processes and notability guidelines better than at AFD.
You labeled this edit as vandalism. Having looked up Ping pong show, I think it was an appropriate edit and you were a bit hasty.
This A7 tag was inappropriate. A7 is not about notability or meeting any guidelines. It comes down to the simple question of this: Does the article creator make any claim that this subject is important? Where 'credible' comes to play here isn't a play on notability, it's a play on realism. If the article says "Sandra Johnson is 16 and she was the first girl on Mars" then it's a claim but not credible. On the other hand, "Sandra Johnson is the first girl to win the Young Teen Award for Creative Arts by the Chicago Liberal Arts museum" than that is a claim of significance although it might not pass an AFD. Think of it this way: all deletions must have consensus; even CSD. CSD gets it's consensus from the strict terms the community has decided can be deleted with no further discussion. However, it is only appropriate if strictly applied. If we do it wrong, then we've made a non-consensus deletion. The problem is that only sysops can see deletions so there is very little oversight, and that's why it is important to get it right. This is another inappropriate CSD. G11 is really hard because it's tough to know what constitutes spam. The work unamiguous comes into play here because it requires that every sentence of the article be spam. In this case, that is a legitimate article and shouldn't have been tagged as spam. Maybe a PROD or AFD is more appropriate though.
So if you would like to be a viable admin candidate, the first thing to do is improve in these areas. I'd suggest giving WP:GNG a good read over and strole through the other guidelines linked from there. Also read over WP:CSD and WP:WIHSD again. Your vandalism fighting is good, just be a little more careful and slower with the trigger. Write a few article too. It doesn't have to be GA or FA, but if you can do 1500 characters than it would qualify for DYK. Even expanding an existing article 5x would qualify for DYK. All you really need to do is show understanding of the notability guidelines, manual of style, and proper reliable sources. So a 3-4 paragraph article with 5 - 10 citations would be great.
As far as admin areas, continue to participate at AFD and AIV. Try to get involved in reviewing DYKs, they need a lot of help over there. If you get involved in things like WP:AFC, it will show you are capable and willing to do tedious work which is mostly what sysops do. Work in dispute resolution or mediation cabal. Steven Zhang can give you a lot of advice working that area.
Finally, the thing about RFA is that if you 'prepare' for it then it seems like all you want is the status. Honestly, the best thing to do is simply to find your niche here on Wikipedia. When and if the time is appropriate that you need the additional tools, then you request them then or someone nominates you. For me, my niche is WP:CSD and WP:AFD. So I mostly work those areas. I worked them long before I had aspirations for sysop and I would've worked them regardless of passing an RFA. That's what Wikipedia is really about. It's the teamwork involved in building the encyclopedia. Passing RFA isn't a step or status, it's just a natural extension of what you already do at the time of your RFA.--v/r - TP 23:03, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Thank you so much for spending the time doing my review. I have 2.5 months before I will have my RFA, and will work on article creation, DYK's, and XFD's. I will also work on the LBPD article. However, please note the following:
 • You only found one bad vandalism revert among the over 1.5K I have.
 • I have not failed a UAA, ANI, or AIV report yet in over 55 reports.
 • The CSD tagging is a bit weak, and I am working on it. However, I have over 100 CSD tags, and only about 6 have failed.
 • I realized that I should work on the XFD's, so I figured that it was like CSD's and gave !votes based on WP:N. Recently, I have expanded my !votes by saying which specific parts of which guidelines it doesn't meet and quoting the text. Also, my (non-admin closure)'s have been relatively good so far. In the future, I will have someone else close an XFD that I was involved in.
 • Please note that the Phil Goldfeder XFD was my first XFD that I posted and my first contact in WP: POLITICIAN. I didn't completely understand how XFD's worked at that time. In my 2nd XFD, about Anish Jerome, an admin already deleted it, so I appropriately closed the XFD, as deleted.
 • Lastly, I hope to work in AIV, UAA, and ANI (counter vandalism), and also in RFPERM after my RFA. I may also do deletions, but will mainly concentrate on Counter-Vandalism. The article creation and DYKs are important because we are really an encyclopedia and need content, plus much of the work is behind the scenes and I don't get recognition for it. DYK is something that everybody sees when they visit the main page. I like the idea, and will start creating articles and DYK's. Also, I will work at articles for creation. I will be more careful with my CSD tagging, but it's still in the 90% range. I will come back at the end of the Summer after I improve my AFD's and content creation, and then we will take it from there, and maybe have my RFA in September. Again, thank you so much for spending the time to do this. I really appreciate it. Regards, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 23:27, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Hi! I have chosen right now to work on AFC's, as that is sysop-related work, and it will help me with page creation. I have voted to Delete in the AFD that you mentioned (not Goldfeder), as per the policy of no inherent notability. Even though the WDW is notable, this website isn't and lacks veritable sources. I am currently working in AFC's and am reviewing an article right now. Thanks again, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 23:55, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Toolserver

Does your toolserver 'tools' work with the new IPv6 adresses, like CIDR. extra999 (talk) 17:11, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

I honestly have no idea. I didn't write most of them, I just adopted them. Most of them should work just fine as long as toolservers web server accepts IPv6 requests. The CIDR tool will probably have to be adapted for calculate IPv6 ranges.--v/r - TP 21:09, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Article revision statistics

[18] Hi, in the German translation, "Most recent edit" is translated (2x) as "umfangreichste Bearbeitung". It should be "Letzte Bearbeitung". I made the changes. Can you verify it's correct?--v/r - TP 22:54, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

My new articles

Hello! I found that the counter items "cheat" me. In other words, there are articles, which he did not think of six: ru:21st Street – Queensbridge (IND 63rd Street Line), ru:Roosevelt Island (IND 63rd Street Line), ru:Lexington Avenue – 63rd Street (Нью-Йоркское метро), ru:Franklin Avenue – Botanic Garden (Нью-Йоркское метро), ru:Park Place (BMT Franklin Avenue Line) and ru:Dean Street (BMT Franklin Avenue Line). You can look for the [19] deposit or view history. It's a shame that I will not count my works. Only the last three (ru:Franklin Avenue – Botanic Garden (Нью-Йоркское метро), ru:Park Place (BMT Franklin Avenue Line) and ru:Dean Street (BMT Franklin Avenue Line)). Other articles was cleated me in April. That's why I wrote. All other pages were examined as soon as they create, no delays were not.--Kononenko Alex (talk) 19:01, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Hmm. Well it doesnt sound like a replication issue. I'll run some queries and see if I can figure it out but it won't be soon. I've got other priorities right now. Remind me next month if I haven't taken a look by then.--v/r - TP 19:11, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Well, if I'll let you know in July. Thank you for your attention, I understand you a lot of requests coming.--Kononenko Alex (talk) 19:14, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Quick Question

I don't know if you (or indeed if Cyberpower, who I know is watching, or anyone else who might be watching) could point me in the right direction. I'm thinking about getting some statistics together regarding blocks on en.wp. I'm wondering how many blocks there are per day/week/month and how many of the blocks are on IPs, new editors (edits <10), unestablished editors (10< edits < 1000), established editors (1000< edits <10000) and very established editors (edits>10000). Is this something that is possible to find out? Are the numbers so massive that it makes it a bad idea to even try? Would it be better to take a database dump and sift through it using some code (something I could do at home) or would a database report do the job? Any thoughts would be appreciated. WormTT(talk) 11:05, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

I am an honestly clueless if the Wikipedia database cluster gives such information. I would imagine it's possible to derivate the information into what you need but it will take a long time to process this information as there a ton of users. You would need a bot to do that and powerful one too. Maybe TParis has a better idea.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 11:52, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
The data could probably be gathered on toolserver as long as we limited to a reasonable limit such as three months or the last 20,000 blocks. If you know anything about SQL, the database schema is here. You can build the query in SQL and then open a ticket on JIRA here for the query to be ran. If you don't know SQL, I can probably come up with something for ya.--v/r - TP 13:04, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
That's the sort of thing I needed! might be a little while before I get round to it - no quiet evenings coming up, but yes, I think I can manage the SQL :) Thank you both for the advice. WormTT(talk) 13:17, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Adminstats for non-admins

I see TPBot now doesn't update adminstats for non-admins (e.g. [21]). In this instance, Pek the Penguin is not an administrative account, but it is my alternative account. I had adminstats set up for this account (even though most of the fields were zero), so that the total number of normal edits could be added to my own total. Would you reconsider your decision to disable adminstats for non-admins? I doubt there are many non-admin accounts to make much difference. Thanks. An optimist on the run! 11:55, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Bot policy states that using bots as edit counters is against policy. Non-admins using adminstats would essentially be using it as an edit counter. The bot should never have been able to do it in the first place as it also states that in the template documentation. I was the one who put the disabling code in place. That account has to be an administrator in order to gain access to adminstats. Sorry.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 12:01, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Small Business Notability

Hi! Thanks to your advice, I am participating in DYK's and AFC's. I came across an article in AFC about a small jewelry retailer, that doesn't meet WP: CORP, as per "No Inherent Notability", but I was wondering if there are separate notability guidelines for small businesses. Thanks again, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:51, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

No, there isn't. However, they can fail WP:CORP and still pass WP:GNG. Have you search to see if you can find other reliable sources?--v/r - TP 20:14, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Yes, it has reliable sources, mostly business reviews, as it is a local jewelry store. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:37, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Local and routine news coverage doesn't really count toward WP:GNG in most cases. Usually it needs regional or better. Are the sources significant and independent?--v/r - TP 20:38, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
It mostly has reviews from very small local papers, but the claim of significance is that there store was robbed a while ago, so they have a link to the story. Another user suggested making a separate article about the robbery, but the creator thinks that since the store has been in his family for "over 125 years", it is notable enough, when it actually isn't as just because the business is of sentimental value to you doesn't make it meet WP: GNG. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:55, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Was there anything notable or unique about the robbery? Otherwise, seems like it doesnt meet guidelines.--v/r - TP 20:57, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Doesn't mention anything special, just that the store was robbed and the robber was apprehended, plus a link to the story. Also, this was the 2nd robbery of the week for the store. Nothing notable as per WP:GNG. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 21:25, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

By the way, can I get autopatrolled if I accept 50 AFC's? Thanks, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 22:42, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Autopatrolled really won't help you with AFC. Autopatrolled is for creating new articles. When accepting articles at AFC, you move the article to article space. You dont copy it into a new article.--v/r - TP 22:53, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 00:08, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

hey I Created to new pages a couple Days ago, Wikipedia:WikiProject:Call of Duty and Wikipedia:Portal:Call of duty and they do not show up on my created articles page. Help!!! Grizzly1110 (talk) 23:32, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

articleinfo

Hi, I want to use articleInfo data externally - to show some of it's data (only from the "General statistic" part) on external site or as user script within wikipedia itself.

Specially, I want to get "Total revisions" for articles, and to use it for a research ([22]). Currently I use the API, but it doesn't give revisions count directly and I have to count it by multiple requests to the API. I thought of downloading the database dump, however it will not give up to date statistics. So I think your tool can help me :)

For doing so I would like to have some JSONP API for this tool (something like http://toolserver.org/~tparis/articleinfo/index.php?article=XXX&lang=XX&wiki=XXX&format=jsonp&callback=CALBACKFUNCTION). Does it have jsonp API? If it doesn't, would it be possible to add it? if this tool is open source (?) and its source sits in some open repository (github?) I can write it myself. JSONP API could also be used for users scripts such as User:Equazcion/SidebarHistoryTools, and to allow integration of articleInfo data within Wikipedia interface. Thanks, Eran (talk) 17:15, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Huh? All I understood is that you want some external script to read into the tool. Why not just write your own tool that reads into the information that TParis' uses?—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 17:30, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
To use TParis' information I need some API - which I can't find (this is what I asked for). To write my own tool I need access to the database: I don't want to use database dump (it isn't up to date), and Wikipedia database isn't publicly available for SQL queries of course :) So I want to ask the database in the toolserver - using an existing tool will be easier than creating a new one, and could be use for other purposes. Eran (talk) 18:15, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
I'll push it to github tonight. It's GNU licensed by User:X!.--v/r - TP 18:34, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

Reporting users

Hi, TParis. It's hopefully just a quick question, I was wondering if there was a tool on Wikipedia to view how many reports I have made (e.g. At WP:AIV), how many were successful and how many were unsuccessful, to see where I (if ever!) have gone wrong, so I can see how to improve. Cheers, --Chip123456 (talk) 18:37, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

TPBot and coord display parameters

Any progress on your investigation of the {{coord|...|display=inline,title}} issue? It is definitely trying to work out some inner issues. See this. Another interesting pathology is this.

I reverted its edits for this task for today, some of which have many consecutive edits over the last seven weeks. That leaves some articles with {{coord|...|display=it}}, a value I was not aware of. Hopefully that should make a good test case when it is fixed. Cheers! —EncMstr (talk) 04:21, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

RE: Protecting Children on Wikipedia...

Is there anything being done to "Rate" Wikipages as acceptable for children or family friendly? My children are all teens and older, I've got an Internet Filter on their laptops -- but I don't think it blocks certain pages from Wikipedia that we'd be embarrassed if we "read them together." ~ Bob Hays — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.167.148.227 (talk) 14:28, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately, no. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It contains the same type of content you could expect to find in Encyclopedia Britanica. Wikimedia, the non-profit that owns Wikipedia, is working on an image filter that should be available in the future but there are no plans for a content filter. If you are concerned about the content of Wikipedia, my best advice is to surf Wikipedia with them. However, the content of even our 'sexually explicit' articles are written in a neutral point of view from a strictly factual perspective.--v/r - TP 15:18, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Looking for a WikiBot Developer for a Semantic MediaWiki being developed

I'm looking for a WikiBot Developer for a Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) being developed. The SMW will be for a SmartPhone food nutrition rating wiki. Bob - Is it a paid position or are you looking for a volunteer to donate their time?--v/r - TP 14:20, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

No budget. But I could pay something. I'm going to be working through Jesse Wang at Vulcan as the SMW consultant for most of it. But I'm not sure how much he understands regarding wiki bots. What is the best way to contact you regarding what I'm looking for and how much it might cost? You can contact me via mr.bobhays [at] gmail {dot} com (I'll remove this within a day from your user talk page.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.167.148.227 (talk) 17:31, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I personally am only interested in funded positions. I've stretched my generosity out too much lately. If you have a developer already, there are two major frameworks available. Pywikipedia is a Python based framework and Botclasses is a PHP framework. As far as programmers go who know these frameworks, you can look for them at WP:BRFA.--v/r - TP 14:31, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

quick question about number of vandalism reverts

Hi TP, I stumbled upon a comment you left to a user who'd requested Rollback, where you mentioned the fact that he had only done "about 20" vandalism reverts. I got curious: what's the address of the tool that counts a user's vandalism reverts? By the way, thanks for all the excellent tools you've contributed to wikipedia. I use them almost everyday. Thanks, Azylber (talk) 16:23, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) No, I doubt TP looks up all of his contributions, but the requester said that he "uses Twinkle to revert vandalism" and there is a button called "Auto Edits" that shows you how many edits that user made with each edit tool, and it only shows 30. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 16:58, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
Found it. Thanks! Azylber (talk) 17:38, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
I do both of the above (check contribs, auto edits) and I also use the edit summary search. I search about the first 3 or 4 pages of edits for reverts and I check that what they reverted really was vandalism. Then I go to this tool and I do a search on words like "revert", "undo", "undid", and "vandalism." It's quite a process I go through for rollback tool and my way of doing it isn't the only way and my standards arn't the only standards. Granting permissions is left to the discretion of the sysop who takes action or declines to take action first. Not the best way to do it but it is what it is. Anyway, sometimes there are timelimits for when the user can request again and I told them they should come back as soon as they have the reverts. The reason I like to see ~50 is so I have a solid base to judge that the user knows exactly what constitutes vandalism and only use the tool for that.--v/r - TP 18:27, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
Thank you! I wasn't aware of these tools.Azylber (talk) 18:56, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

You're right, it is there, I see it now. But it only shows up on articles, not in user space.--v/r - TP 20:52, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
Strange. I wonder why it doesn't work for userspace. It'd be a perfect protection for Userspace. I wonder if I could make it as an article, you protect it and then move it to userspace.—cyberpower ChatAbsent 20:57, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
I think it's a bit silly for userspace to be honest. If you want to protect a page so only you can edit it or only auto-confirmed then that makes sense. But to PC a bot run page, I just can't see a real purpose for that.--v/r - TP 21:21, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
It's possible to protect a page so only I can edit it? What kind of protection is that. No what I want is that only higher level users, such as myself, administrators, and other reviewers can edit it.—cyberpower ChatTemporarily Online 21:55, 26 June 2012 (UTC)
That defeats the purpose of a Wiki, my friend. Also remember, WP:AGF. If someone is maliciously changing your run page, we can protect it then.--v/r - TP 22:05, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

RHP Multimedia

The RHP Multimedia article is identical to the article Speedy-deleted yesterday. I was under the impression that 'claims' had to be credible? GimliDotNet (Speak to me,Stuff I've done) 13:38, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

'Credible' means that it's plausible, not that it's notable or significant. "The company is best known for..." is a claim of significance and designing iPhone accessories may be the reason. iHome is certainly a significant company known for it's iPhone accessories; although I don't know if it has an article. As far as the deletion yesterday, it's really a matter of the admin you chance upon but you dont want to go around shopping for admins either.--v/r - TP 13:44, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm not stupid - I've been around long enough to not go looking for backup, I was merely asking for feedback. If two admins can't agree on what makes a credible claim how can you expect the rest of us to? GimliDotNet (Speak to me,Stuff I've done) 13:51, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
That's the dilemma of WP:CSD. But I generally follow the advice at WP:WIHSD for all of my CSDing.--v/r - TP 14:09, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Rollback edits

I saw the note you left on my page regarding the use of rollback for NPOV edits. The edit in question, here, was marked as NPOV in the edit summary, and resulted in an npov-1 notice. Isn't that standard operating procedure? --Jprg1966 (talk) 14:40, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Undoing an edit, as it appears Huggle did, is fine for point of view edits. The only issue is the use of rollback tool for good faith edits that arn't vandalism. This is a case of a good faith edit that is still inappropriate because it's not neutral. But it doesn't appear Huggle used rollback so you should be alright.--v/r - TP 14:47, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing the attribution at Mixedwood Plains Ecozone (Canada) - I hadn't realised it was a copy-paste (not that I could have done much if I had!). Cheers for performing what I hear is one of the less-loved but most necessary admin tasks. Yunshui 19:20, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I originally deleted it because it was an exact duplicate with zero changes and no attribution. After seeing that you and he removed sections from the old article that belong in the new one, I felt proper attribution was better than deletion. It's actually pretty easy to do and any editor can do it, you dont need to be an admin. You do a null edit by adding a blank line to the end of the page. Then you get the revision number of where the content was added and the permanent link of where it came from and write it in an edit summary. That takes care of the content license. There are other things you can do such as talk page notices as well, but they arnt required.--v/r - TP 19:24, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
As easy as that, eh? Don't give away all your secrets, people will be less impressed with your good work! Thank you for the advice, I shall file it away for future use. Yunshui 19:29, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Alternate accounts are fine. I have several myself: User:TParis00ap, User:TParis-alt, and User:TPBot. As long as you are clear on both of your account userpages that they belong to the same person and don't use them abusively or to confuse others than you're fine. AfD/Harmony Central

I regret to offer you a small trout. Well, less a trout, more a minnow, as to be fair, I didn't notice it myself until just now.

In WP:Articles for deletion/Harmony Central, you closed the discussion as "Merge to Guitar Center". Happy that the lid's been finally closed on this discussion after a month, but it just occurs to me that the Harmony Central (harmonycentral.net) in the context of Guitar Center is not the same thing as the Harmony Central (harmonycentral.com) that was proposed for deletion! So we might be merging the wrong thing. Rather than diving headfirst into opposing a merge or calling a deletion review, which would bring us back into more long drawn out discussions, can you think of any quick solution to all this? --Ritchie333 (talk) 13:36, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Hello Paris, may I ask you to expand a bit on your motivation to delete my International School of Gemology entry? It's well researched, verifiable and factual. Rock-o-solid (talk) 15:28, 30 June 2012 (UTC)

It's poorly sourced to forums, blogs, and attack sites. Please give our policy on reliable sources a read over. While your at it, you can also read our policy on neutral point of view and be assured that if I see anymore, you'll find your account blocked (by an uninvolved administrator).--v/r - TP 15:59, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Forum posts that are signed by known entities within the gemological world should hold as much weight as quotations in established magazines or other paper sources, don't you think?. Do you feel that when people express themselves on Fora their words don't count? Rock-o-solid (talk) 12:17, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
You don't know if those people are notable or not. You don't even know if they are who they are. Do their words count? Yes. At they credible for use on Wikipedia? No.—cyberpower ChatOffline 12:24, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Hello Cyberpower, I know each and every person mentioned in that article or referred to in the notes, every gemologist does because it concerns well known authors within our field of science.Rock-o-solid (talk) 12:42, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
You do. We don't and neither does the world. Forums aren't acceptable as reliable sources according to our policy.—cyberpower ChatOffline 12:45, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Forums are not acceptable because 1) Primary sources arn't acceptable, and 2) There is no editorial board or publisher holding itself accountable for what is posted.--v/r - TP 13:08, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
That's a pity but I understand the point. In a lot of cases forum posts were my only option as the 'subject' works through forums, hence my use of 'm. The problem is that even when other sources would be used the whole picture would not become much prettier so I fear the alleged NPOV problem will remain, the facts just aren't all that flattering to the subject so it will seem like an attack very quickly. I do wonder whether that should be reason for a deletion though. Aren't there thousands of pages on WP describing a subject with a reputation which is frowned upon by 'the world'? --v/r - Rock-o-solid (talk) 13:19, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
You need published sources that describe that. What you have now is a local gemological-community dislike of this guy. You don't have 'the world' yet because you have no international press coverage. I read that a lot of what went on involved Chinese companies. Do you have sources in other languages that meet our WP:RS policy?--v/r - TP 13:22, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, it wasn't all forum posts. Some sources comply with the WP:RS policy. The subject is pretty small potatoes so I don't see FOX doing a special on it anytime soon. Rock-o-solid (talk) 14:06, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
 • Another problem I didn't bother to mention this earlier because the sourcing issues were bad enough, but another issue was severe synthesis. Basically, because A and B then C. Sources need to describe exactly what is in the article. You cannot have one source that says that the guy said one thing, another person disputed it, so the result is that he is wrong. You need a published source that says "Guy was proven wrong by another guy due to X". I'm bad at explaining it, just give WP:SYNTH a read over. This is why primary sources arn't generally accepted unless making non-controversial statements about themselves. ie. if Selena Gomez said "I'm pregnant" on Twitter or something.--v/r - TP 13:26, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Roger that. Would better sources and refrain from synthesis overcome the NPOV issue though? I don't mind rewriting the entry but don't like to be wasting my time either. On my POV: I am not a victim of the subject, nor do I have a vested interest in any of his competitors or something funky like that. I am a gemologist whose toes curl every time a bit of deceitful propaganda is sent into the world by the subject. (The original entry of the disputed article was such a bit of propaganda so I stepped in to set that straight.) --v/r - Rock-o-solid (talk) 14:06, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
If the sources are about the subject itself and you can write an article that isn't a WP:COATRACK and adheres to a neutral point of view then it should be fine. There are many more guidelines that can explain more but the more I throw at you right now the more frustrated you'll get. So how about this, write the article in your userspace and I (or someone else if you want) can help guide you on how to write a proper Wikipedia article. Further reading for you would be WP:BIO, WP:CORP, WP:GNG, WP:IRS, WP:V, and WP:BLP. You dont need to read all of those right now, but when you have the time and have digested the others then most are about notability which describes what is included on Wikipedia, one is on how to identify a reliable source, one is about verifiable content, and the last describes how we talk about living people.--v/r - TP 14:23, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Excellent pointers, thank you for your patience and help. I'll get busy and post a revision on my talk page after absorbing the guidelines you linked to. --v/r - Rock-o-solid (talk) 14:37, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Try this instead: User:Rock-o-solid/IGS--v/r - TP 15:04, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

I've been giving this some thought and I wanted to consult an editor I am particularly close with. This user has been giving out Reviewer when users ask for it. I don't see this as a big problem as that is the reason WP:PERM is there. My problem I see is this user seems to be blatantly handing out the bit without reviewing the applicant's contributions, if they can be trusted and if they demonstrate a need for this. I pointed this out to this user but the biggest concern was when this user handed out Reviewer rights to 5 users within a minute when 1 of them didn't demonstrate the need for it anyways. I would like to get a second opinion on this as thought of bringing this to AN has occurred to me. As a side note, before you do retire (big if), I would appreciate if you could sign this.—cyberpower ChatOnline 15:44, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Well I can't give you strong advice here because I'm not that experienced at WP:PERM. There are really two things to consider, 1) Is Acalamari causing damage or disruption? The new AFT5 tool is brand new and there are no community guidelines determining it's use. Users who have access to the tool, having used the tool myself, really gain no additional privileges. It only makes things easier similar to Twinkle that we don't restrict new users to anyway. 2) Should we be giving rights away that will not be used? Generally this depends on a case by case basis. I'm of a mind to give anyone with over 10,000 edits every tool short of the bit. Someone with over 10k edits can be trusted with auto reviewer, reviewer, rollback, and file mover to not purposefully try to f- stuff up. Mistakes would undoubtedly be made, but there are opportunities for mistakes even with experienced users. On the other hand, each right is specifically unbundled for a purpose and users who engage in those activities should have the tools to work their general area of expertise. We don't need to encourage collecting hats. So if you want to report him to AN, that's up to you. I don't think I would until the community has laid firmer ground rules on the reviewer right.--v/r - TP 15:53, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
The AFT5 tool is accessible through the Rollbacker flag and the Reviewer flag. An editor who claims they have Rollback and wish to have the Reviewer flag to access the AFT5 tool, should be declined as they have expressed no desire to help with Pending Changes IMHO. If I understand you correctly, being that I have been here for a year and have around 7.6K edits, you would grant me say, accountcreator rights because you know I wouldn't abuse it?—cyberpower ChatOnline 16:13, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
That's just my personal feelings on the subject.--v/r - TP 16:17, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Going on to that subject, what is your level of trust in me? On the original subject, if you don't think this is worth reporting, then I won't report it. Thanks for signing my list, I placed a support next to your sign as I assume that you support the fact I consider you a friend.—cyberpower ChatOnline 16:26, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
My level of trust in you? You had a very rocky start and you explained to me a little about that. I would say that since that start, you've improved greatly and as a talk page stalker of mine you've handled many of the issues that have come up here well. If your question is, 'would I make a decent sysop' then my answer would be yeah; given a little more time. I think you need to make sure you have a handle and that you are stable enough to handle the stresses of adminship (this is the part I am reconsidering per above). It's really nice of ya'all to say I do a halfway decent job, but it's still really stressful and I'm not sure I can handle it. So that's what you have to keep in mine and ya gotta know that you're specific circumstances will be manageable.--v/r - TP 18:26, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) First of all, I often see TParis at WP: PERM and I see that he knows what he is doing there. I have also seen Acalamari there for some time, and I have rarely seen him not grant a permission there. He made me AWB approved and granted me the Reviewer right. I sort of agree with Cyberpower, but as long as they are not abusing the right, I see no problem giving it out, even though I'm not an admin. Unless people who he grants the right to are abusing the tool, I see no wrongdoing on his part. Also, regarding the abuse, my talk page has been vandalized 13 times, I have had an attack page made against me, which was created by an imitation account (Electriccatfish3), plus I've been made legal threats against. I understand that being a sysop comes with a lot of harassment, but you get a lot of that if you do anti-vandalism work, which I do a lot. Best, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 18:44, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Honestly, I wasn't referring to adminship because I personally feel I've got some ways to go but, thank you for the kind words. I'm easily able to manage stress most of the time. I see your point but, on the other hand, aren't you a sergeant of the military? I would imagine the military can be quite stressful. Anyways, you do what you feel is best for you and if you do see the need to retire, let me know first.—cyberpower ChatOnline 18:54, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Actually, it says on your page that you're a staff sergeant, and you also are a father and a husband. There's nothing wrong with taking a Wikibreak, but it would be very disappointing to lose you. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 18:55, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
TParis' page? or cyberpower678's? - jc37 23:20, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Did you also see the WMF imposter who requested every single userright at WP: PERM yesterday? Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:01, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
I did. I got a good laugh out of that. Staff members usually gain global rights anyways.—cyberpower ChatOnline 19:23, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
You'd think the WMF would employ somebody better able to write the English language. Anyway, in my previous job, in a firm employing about 1200, one of my tasks was to create new user accounts (I was one of three people with that right) also to grant additional rights (I was one of about 30 with that right). Twice in five years I received a request for full system access from somebody claiming to be a new member of top-level management; both turned out to be a new warehouse picker who was testing the system. Be vigilant. --Redrose64 (talk) 20:25, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

By the way, I often see a non-admin (User: Armbrust) putting X'es next to requests at WP: PERM. Can any user do this? Electriccatfish2 (talk) 22:52, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

He clerks at various pages. So I'm guessing he's helping clerk there as well.
As for anyone, I don't see why not, but I think I would suggest that you might want to say why you're placing the X if it isn't immediately apparent on that page. - jc37 23:18, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
How can I clerk there? I often clerk at AIV, CVUA, and HD, but I would like to do so at PERM, too. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 23:21, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
It suddenly occurs to me that perhaps I am the wrong person to ask (as until very recently I haven't been much active there). Why not drop a note on Armbrust's talk page? I would guess he would know. (Otherwise, so would TParis, presumably : ) - jc37 23:27, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Retirement

Are you close to retiring from Wikipedia at this point or contemplating retirement?—cyberpower ChatOnline 16:24, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

I'm contemplating giving up the bit, but not retiring. Reduced activity maybe.--v/r - TP 17:27, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Why do that?—cyberpower ChatOnline 17:32, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Get that thought out of you head before I start knockin noggins. StringdaBrokeda (talk) 17:45, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Agreed. I can understand if you want to retire because of your burn out but to forfeit the bit is ridiculous. Your an admin and damn good one to. Removing the bit makes no sense at all.—cyberpower ChatOnline 17:55, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
I agree with cyberpower. You're one of the best admins out here and although this may be stressful, it would be a shame to lose you. By the way, I have postponed my RFA until June and made 3 articles. See you around! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 21:59, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
Sometimes its good to take a break if your feeling a little burnt out , much better than losing you. We all get fed up editing/contributing here occasionally - I know I do. We don't always agree on issues but as independent free thinking interpretors of en wikipedia policy and guidelines we shouldn't either. You do good work here and thank you for your contributions - regards Youreallycan 16:12, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words. Just been a bit burnt out lately. A special thanks to YRC, it means a lot that you'd say that.--v/r - TP 21:08, 30 June 2012 (UTC)
Thank you TP - Youreallycan 19:16, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Just noticed this. If you need a break, even from the bit, take it. I'd much rather see someone wind down and come back fresh than blow up. I concur with many of the thoughts above, you're one of the best editors/admins on here. I really appreciated your help with that RfC last year, and have considered you to be a reliable and excellent source of knowledge since. So, take your break - enjoy it, remember there's more to life than wikipedia. The bit will be here when you want it back. WormTT(talk) 11:22, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
That's the thing. I took a break, came back and felt the same way. The stress of the mop just ruins the excitement of the encyclopedia. It's not even stuff that is affecting me personally, it's what I see on WP:ANI that just makes me shudder. It's the stupid idiots who think they have a right to shove their POV up everyone's ass. And it's the constant bickering among each other. If everyone could just agree that we're all on the same team, I think I'd be less stressed.--v/r - TP 17:00, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Articleinfo tool

Hi, regarding http://toolserver.org/~tparis/articleinfo/index.php - is this tool now withdrawn? Please see MediaWiki talk:Histlegend#Expired account. --Redrose64 (talk) 11:38, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

I assumed TParis took it down because the tool wasn't working as it was supposed and he was getting lots of complaints about missing articles. If I am wrong, just say so.—cyberpower ChatOffline 12:09, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Toolserver now has quotas on all accounts. The articleinfo tool stores xml files that contain cached data for each article and it was nearly 3 times the quota limit. I could just deleted these cached files, but given enough time the tool would recreate them and still lock me out of my account. Whenever Labs has a SQL server that replicates Wikipedia available, I will move it there. I'm also looking at another possibility that I'm considering right now too.--v/r - TP 13:05, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
That's sad news, given how useful this tool is. What about putting the explanation instead of just « This tool no longer exists » ?
Would binary XML or data compression help?
Anyway, thank you for having supported the tool until now. I hope it'll be back soon.
Best regards — Arkanosis 14:46, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
TParis, you can just request a higher quota limit. The tool is obviously used a lot so I'm sure they will allow it.—cyberpower ChatOnline 14:51, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
To what end? Will I request more space every time it reaches it's cap? What right do I have to a larger quota over other toolserver users?--v/r - TP 15:54, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Does it just continuously grow or does it eventually stop growing. As User:DaB. stated on the mailing list, you can request a quota be made bigger for tools that appear to carry importance in the community. Your right to a larger quota would be that you are hosting a very popular tool. If you would like, I can host the tool for you and clear the cache every week or so.—cyberpower ChatOnline 17:55, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Would you like me to take over the tool for you?—cyberpower ChatOnline 18:55, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Your welcome to it. I suppose I could ask DaB or write a cron to clear it out. Those are both options. I know there is some storage space on toolserver without a quota, but I havent been able to reverse engineer the part of X!'s code that directs where the cached data gets stored. It's going into a /data/ folder and I see no reference to that anywhere.--v/r - TP 19:01, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Is your toolserver folder open or should I use the copy I obtained from X!?—cyberpower ChatOnline 19:26, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
You can use the one from X!, I didnt modify it at all.--v/r - TP 19:44, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

I inquired at the Village Pump as to where this tool had gone. To my relief, I've learned that I'm not blind in not being able to locate it, but saddened to hear of its problems. I find the tool very useful and informative, and I think it's very reasonable to assume that many others feel the same way. It's one of those things that makes Wikipedia stand out. I doubt I can do much to remedy the situation you're having above, but I would be in full support of you getting more storage space, and whatever else needs to be done to bring this tool back. Good luck to you. Jesse V. (talk) 04:56, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Seconded. It should be a standard feature of Wikipedia. I support any move/campaign to get you more storage space. - X201 (talk) 13:15, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Heh, thanks. There's no need for any movements. All I have to do is ask for it. But I think Cyberpower is going to work on tailoring a permanent solution.--v/r - TP 13:17, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Well if that's all you have to do, then cool. But it may make a difference when you've got a lot of users supporting your request. Anyway, I hope you guys can swiftly find a solution. Jesse V. (talk) 16:22, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
I've got a college life now but I will try to find a solution as quick as possible. I believe I already have potential solution but I have yet to try it.—cyberpower ChatLimited Access 16:37, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
Thank you, Cyberpower for your efforts to find a permanent solution for this useful tool.--JayJasper (talk) 16:48, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Why is the bot currently not running the {{coord}} task? Just wondering! TAP 17:02, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

There was a small problem with a certain character on about 5 or 6 articles and I havent had time to go in there and add it to the regex and test the results yet. Got several projects going on at home atm.--v/r - TP 17:03, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
I don't suppose that the offending character was − was it? When it was manually added to the |longitude= parameter in this article instead of a keyboard hyphen-minus, the longitude displayed OK but all the links on the GeoHack page were screwed because they contained zero longitude. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:23, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Try chmod +x ~/public_html/file.php. If you're using another language, such as Python, you'll have to prepend #!/usr/bin/python to the file. 'Σ'.toLowerCase() 21:29, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
It didn't work. What is that command supposed to do and what are its parameters?—cyberpower ChatOnline 22:14, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) chmod is a command found on Unix-type operating systems which alters permissions for a file. Normally, when you create a file, it's not executable; but if it's a program, it usually needs to be executable. The +x indicates that you want to mark the file as "executable". Since that apparently didn't work, try chmod ug+x ~/public_html/file.php - here the extra ug shows that you want the file's owner (yourself) and members of the file owner's group to have the execute permission. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:36, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi TParis. If you're considering unblocking, I hope you'll also consider making it conditional upon the editor focusing on article work and refraining from commenting on other editors. Hi, TP, you know more about tools, etc., than I do. What is this for? Does it mean that stats are at Hahc21's Talk page? Those links across the top? If so, it's confusing, at least to me, because if you click on the mabdul link next to the sentence, you go to mabdul's Talk page. Sorry to bother you with this - probably just another one of those nits that no one cares about except me.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:49, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

The silliest thing is I actually knew that, but I'd never noticed that sentence before, and I can be so annoyingly literal sometimes, I just couldn't get my brain wrapped around it to make the connection. I'm gonna crawl back to my comforting watchlist.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:55, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Can I discuss it with you? [email protected]

v/v/r Bruce Clay — Preceding unsigned comment added by Clay Bruce (talkcontribs) 17:03, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Mr. Clay, if there are other factors to be considered, we do have a review process. Quotes and features are not considered for notability, but if there are articles written in a media published independent of you and a 746 page book authored and published independent of you then those are definitely a consideration. Please show me what you have.--v/r - TP 17:35, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) First of all, please don't post your email address here. Second of all, the page was deleted because it failed what is called an AfD here. An AfD stands for Articles for deletion and it is where editors discuss if a certain page meets our requirements here, namely notability. In the end, TParis closed it as delete. This means that it was decided, based on other editor's votes that the page did not meet our policies and therefore was deleted. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 17:16, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

You're done because you got the WP:LASTWORD? Please don't feed me such nonsense. I'm not telepathic and I have no way to know that if Montanabw replied to your last word that you would resist the temptation to respond. If you want to be done, then don't reply in the first place. I am now done with this subject; please try to be more polite to your fellow editors in the future.--v/r - TP 00:40, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
The discussion appears to be continuing at my talk page, if you wish to keep an eye on things, TP. For the record, I did apologize there - and here - for using the word "moron" in an edit summary on my talk page. But other than that, I am tired of this whole thing, which took me - or anyone else - precisely six minutes to fix but at least an hour of wiki-drama which could have been avoided with a little good faith, less preachiness and a lot less rude, bossy behavior. As one of the people in the top 1000 most active wikipedians and an active content editor, I really hate having editors complain about old tags that aren't hurting anything, ordering other people sternly about to FIX IT NOW, telling those of us who are busy working on content to deal with their drama, and getting attention by doing a mass blanking of an entire section because they think one sentence was wrong - especially when it turns out their position was not even perfectly correct, to boot. Montanabw(talk) 04:55, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

(outsent) (note: I'm not reading Montabw's comment here. I'm unhappy enough.) Not outrage; hurt and insulted. I thought you knew me better, and I am ot happy that I have been called names and insulted nonstop when all I was doing was cleanup. Your post lumped my civil policy focused edits together with his hostile attacks. I don't even know what to say, now. KillerChihuahua?!? 12:00, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

To which of my edits were you referring when you said I should "please try to be more polite"? If there was something I said which could be taken ill, I would prefer to know so as not to make that error again. KillerChihuahua?!? 13:22, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
I literally copied and pasted your own words from ANI to emphasize the point that your making a big deal out of nothing. I did not mean any of it spite.--v/r - TP 13:39, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
So you found no instances of my being rude, but made the comment because you found my desire to see WP:V followed or because you supported the WP:EW carried out by M, or because you don't agree with WP:BURDEN? I'm sorry, about which item was I overreacting? Which policy was "nothing" about which I was making a big deal? I am not following your point, sorry. I also find it odd that if you thought I was overreacting, you didn't simply say so in plain language, rather than imply I'd failed in common courtesy. KillerChihuahua?!? 13:46, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
You are clearly still upset over this and that is the point of 'overreacting'. You've won, the content is now sourced. You've achieved your goal. What do you expect to achieve now by continuing the argument with Montanabw? What did you expect to achieve by starting this thread on my talk page? Where do we stand, now, that you've taken my attempt on ANI to diffuse a situation as a offense? Has this improved anything for you? I've already swallowed my pride and apologized, what else do you expect to hear?--v/r - TP 13:53, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

(outdent) I am not upset; please do me the courtesy of not loading me with sentiments or emotions which exist only in your imagination. I am not interested in "winning" except in the context of us all winning by making Wikipedia a better resource. Your framing this as a battleground is missing or misrepresenting my efforts completely. I merely asked why you told me to be more polite, as I wish to not be rude. It seems that was some kind of point you were trying to make on your part, the thrust of which i still don't understand; so I asked why didn't you simply say what you mean? I'm still wondering. Why didn't you? This is not good communications, and muddies the water rather than helping improve the situation. KillerChihuahua?!? 14:01, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

I gave you the same dish that you gave me in the expectation that you would think critically on your own actions. Explain to me why you are still here if you are not upset? It baffles me why, after the content was sourced, you 1) came to my page about my attempts to diffuse it, and 2) continue. Whether you admit it to yourself or not, that you keep coming here is, from my point of view, an indication that you are not over the matter of yesterday. If you cannot explain to me why this continues to trouble you, I don't see how we're going resolve this. I've made my point clear and obvious. At this point, I feel your trying to fish for an answer that you can run off to ANI and hold over my head. So I'm not going to engage in this discussion anymore unless I feel your actually trying to find resolution instead of hang me for trying to help. It was ridiculous of you to come here in the first place and it's ridiculous for you to continue this argument. Your just causing a rift between us for nothing.--v/r - TP 14:13, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm growing more confused by the minute. I don't think you've made your point "clear and obvious" at all; I keep asking what it is and you respond ever more defensively. I don't even know that we have a difference to resolve at all, as I'm still trying to comprehend what on earth you are objecting to. You started by saying I was rude, then you said no, you were just tossing my words back at me to make a point because you thought I was over reacting. Over reacting to what? I have asked and still ask. I am sorry this is causing a rift, I am even sorrier you think I'm on a "fishing" expedition, something which I have never done and will never do. I am truly perplexed at your posts and your non-response to my requests for clarification. If you don't want to explain, fine, I'll go, but know that I'm only trying to figure out what you are talking about and what your complaint about me is. KillerChihuahua?!? 14:19, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Ok, I'll take that as sincere so I'll try again to explain. You made a post on ANI asking for help. You then said nevermind, it's resolved. Montanabw responded saying "Glad it's over" which is perfectly reasonable because, hey, you created an ANI topic about them and they should be able to respond. You then responded to them because they accused you of something, again perfectly reasonable. However, you said "I am now done with this subject" Also reasonable except that it seems a lot like the WP:LASTWORD. Now, this is where I come in. You said the situation was resolved in your previous edit, and then you responded to Montanabw. So why should Montanabw concede the "last word" to you? So let's say they respond because, let's face it, you made your own accusations that is only fair for them to respond to. WP:V says that while all material should be sourced, in practice only contentious or likely to be challenged material actually requires sourcing. It would have been reasonable for Montanabw to challenge you on this. Although it doesn't excuse the edit warring. Once you challenged it, they should've sourced it right away. But that's beside the point. The point is, the material was now sourced. So my comment was Let's just move on.
At this point is where I feel you're starting to be a little silly. You came to my talk page and said "I stated clearly I was done with the subject." I don't see why you would even come here and say that. Why would I assume because you were the last to respond in that thread, that if Montanabw were to respond again to you there that you would not continue? Now, if Montanabw had the WP:LASTWORD and I'd known you were online, likely saw it, and moved on on your own then I'd know you were really done. But that's not the case. You got the last word and Montanabw had yet to respond. I also don't see why you would take an attempt to diffuse it as a offense that would cause you to come here. So, I felt that if I were to be a smart ass and give you a little of what you were dishing out, you'd see how silly you were being to come to my talk page over this. So I responded rather bluntly using some of your own words thinking you'd get that I think you were overreacting to come to my talk page. You see the rest above, but that's my point of view.--v/r - TP 14:33, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Ok... I said I was now done, meaning even if M accused me of something else I was not going to bother to defend myself. Why should you believe me? I'm thinking AGF might apply here. Until and unless I renege, and continue, you should assume I'm going to do what I say. What I was "dishing out" was a direct piece of advice to be more polite to someone who had clearly and obviously violated the NPA policy. So if you were to "dish out" to me what I was "dishing out" to him, it was incumbent upon you to find a policy I had violated and advise me not to do so. I think my advice was phrased rather gently. I made no threats or dire pronouncements. I still don't understand why you felt you should counter attack me for merely advising someone to follow policy. I don't understand how you accusing me of being rude, when I had not been, was somehow an attempt to diffuse the situation. In my experience, false accusations, even by implication, rarely diffuse situations. I still don't understand what you think I was "being silly" about. I am inclining towards the belief that you think I should keep my mouth shut when someone makes personal attacks. Is that the case? KillerChihuahua?!? 14:43, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

In the edit I made that started this, here, I made no accusations of being rude, I made no personal attacks, no assumption of bad faith, and no mention of anything being silly. I didn't say you would respond, I was addressing both of you. What I find silly is that you were offended by that. So my first response on my talk page was to point out that there was no point in being upset and that it is easy as pie for the person who got the WP:LASTWORD to say "I'm done". That's a perfectly reasonable stance for me to take.--v/r - TP 14:52, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
You told me how I felt, and were in error; this is a particular peeve of mine. It is always offensive to be told how you feel. Secondly, you said we both had legitimate points; what precisely was M's legitimate point? Am I an moron? Is V something we can simply ignore, and am I being ridiculous to follow it and expect others to follow it? Was his valid "point" the argument that I was "bitching" and that he doesn't have to follow burden, because I "could" have "fixed it"? He flouted policy and was rude and insulting and argumentative. What was that "point" which was valid? And yes, your clear implication that I was going to continue to "argue" after I said "Im done" is ABF. KillerChihuahua?!? 15:26, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
Addition: It appears that you made an ill-considered comment with good intentions but without thinking it through. May I suggest that in the future you remember that if you lump everyone in a dispute together, when they have not displayed the same battlefield attitude, rudeness, or ignoring policy in favor of essay; then the party who is not guilty of those transgressions is apt to be annoyed or unhappy about your painting everyone with the same brush. AGF is generally a good idea. Also, that calling someone's concerns about policy violations "silly" or telling them to follow policy they have not broken or accusing them of going on a "fishing" expedition when they're trying to have goodfaith communication with you to figure out what your complaint about them is not likely to help matters. I think unless you have an actual complaint about my actions we are probably done here, yes? KillerChihuahua?!? 15:38, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
You're missing the part of "However, in practice it is only necessary to provide inline citations for quotations and for any information that has been challenged or that is likely to be challenged."
We were done before the thread started. It shouldn't have even come to my talk page. You should not have been offended by what I said on ANI. I wouldn't have been. If that settles matters, then yes we are done. I'll take care about what I say when addressing conflicts you are in in the future.--v/r - TP 17:44, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
So, because you would not have been offended when someone insulted you and ABF'd and lumped you in with an edit warring policy violator, I should not be? How very judgmental and self-centric of you. KillerChihuahua?!? 17:49, 11 July 2012 (UTC)
I'll just ignore that last sentence. I wouldn't take it as personally as you appear to be, no. First of all, you're seriously stretching it to call "Let's all move on" as ABF. That's a large stretch. Secondly, I'd see it for what it is. A call for peace. Here's the thing, I've expressed how I feel. I said I feel like you're fishing for a way to get me to ANI with this thread. That's how I feel and I've a right to that opinion. I didn't accuse you of it. I didn't say, "your just trying to take me to ANI." I said, "This is how I feel..." You can look at the diffs to make sure if you want. When I say "I" wouldn't take it as an insult, I mean the reasonable average Joe. At this point, I feel you are stretching the facts about this discussion. When I said how I felt and that I wouldn't engage anymore, you immediately become sincere about your effort to resolve this. Now I feel your back to being an aggressor and now I am back on the defensive. So I'm going to ask you again what I've asked repeatedly: What is it you expect to get out of this discussion?--v/r - TP 17:56, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

I have to go offline for a while; I am not ignoring this and will reply as soon as I have time. Apologies for leaving this discussion hanging like this, and thanks in advance for your patience. KillerChihuahua?!? 18:30, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Almost certainly; however, this is why it is worth the effort to try and try again to find out what the other person meant, which is why we have a ream or so of text here. KillerChihuahua?!? 15:14, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

I am not a sockpuppet

Staff Sgt TParis, I am not a sockpuppet. I have not now nor have I ever engaged in sockpuppetry. This college uses very few IPs and I am an occasional editor. I am not responsible for those previous edits, especially the ones about some administrator who it seems some people don't like. I hope this explains. 134.241.58.253 (talk) 20:21, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Behavioral evidence seems to disagree. Those edits I highlighted show the same behaviors. I hope you've been using your personal laptop on a wireless connection, and I hope you've mistakenly used your registered account on that wireless. I really want the useragent data to connect your account to the IP. We need to see who you are. You arn't responsible for all of the edits on that IP, I'm sure of it, but the recent ones since the first Philippe talk page message until today's ANI comments all show a behavior of advanced knowledge of Wikipedia, an axe to grind, and avoiding scrutiny.--v/r - TP 20:25, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
I am an internet studies person at this college and have advanced knowledge of many computer systems, social networks, and similar technologies. Like I said I am not responsible for all of the edits coming from this IP. It is shared among many, many people. I hope you'll withdraw this accusation as there is no truth in it.. 134.241.58.253 (talk) 20:30, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

I tried to use the source viewer (linked at the bottom of the Edit Counter page as "View Source") and encountered an issue. When you select a file to view, the link generated uses the path:

http://toolserver.org/~soxred93/pcount/source.php?path=

This gives a "403: User account expired", of course. A quick look at the page source shows that there are other invalid URLS which point to various things under that expired account. A quick find-replace of "soxred93" to "tparis" should probably fix most of this page. Wingman4l7 (talk) 02:01, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

I dont control the toolserver lag, that's a replication issue handled by the toolserver admins. As far as the page contributions, it was causing me to exceed my quota. Cyberpower678 is developing a replacement.--v/r - TP 12:41, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Why is this disabled? Also, did you think of moving the tools to a stable tswiki:MMP in the end? Thanks, Nemo 19:23, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

It was disabled because of the new quotas on toolserver. Yes, the plan was to move all of the tools to a project on the new WMF Labs once the SQL servers are replicating over there. Cyberpower678 is developing a replacement tool.--v/r - TP 19:25, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
I don't understand why you should wait for WMF Labs. Especially if there's another user helping you, just ask a MMP to be created for you, I'm sure it can also be exempted from quotas if you ask besides being more stable. Cheers, Nemo 08:00, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, I've considered that. I took these tools over because X!'s account expired and someone needed to take them. If Cyberpower wants to take over one of the tools because I don't have the time to maintain it, that's fine with me. Cyberpower's tool should be online soon. Otherwise, there is nothing preventing you from setting up an MMP. The tools are freely licensed under the GNU license. You're welcome to take over whichever parts interest you and put them on an MMP. Have a good day.--v/r - TP 14:00, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

CSD tagging

Thanks for your speedies. I wasn't 100% sure how to tag these, and I see you deleted them as G6. The G8 criteria specifically excludes userpages, but in this specific case, I thought G8 best explained the reasons. I've been fixing broken redirects recently, and G8 seems to be the most common tag in that arena of endeavor. BusterD (talk) 17:20, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

I'd interpret the G8 criteria to specifically be referring to the userpage and not including subpages. But I think it falls under both criteria and if nothing else, this is a valid use of WP:IAR as far as speedy is concerned. But I think it's highly uncontroversial. If someone has a concern, I'll restore it.--v/r - TP 17:29, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

INGRID page.

Hi, I'm just here to ask for details on why the page for the Swedish 'INGRID' art collective was deleted. The primary points were listed in the deletion log, but if specifics on what would constitute a suitable page on the subject (which includes several major musical artists, and with proper references etc. should most likely be deemed noteable), I would hope I could create a better and more suitable page. However, I don't want to just make the same mistakes as the previous author and cause nuisance. Any pointers appreciated. AmbroseCadwell (talk) 17:29, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

The best thing to do is to read our criteria on groups first. This is found at WP:CORP. The key is that you must have multiple independent reliable sources with significant coverage of the group to have a Wikipedia article. This means 1) Multiple: More than one, 2) Independent: No press releases, paid articles, website of the group, website of members of the group, specifically an outside perspective 3) Reliable: No blogs, forums, youtube videos, personal websites, 4) Significant coverage: More than a mere mention, about the group itself, several paragraphs.--v/r - TP 17:43, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Right, jolly good. The only one I can see myself having difficulty is with is 3), as the line between a music 'blog' and a music 'website' is probably a debatable one- so I shall collect offline sources too, and then create (hopefully) an article that will more properly suffice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AmbroseCadwell (talkcontribs) 21:09, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

If you have a question about a particular website, you can ask at the reliable sources noticeboard.--v/r - TP 02:29, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Due diligence please

Wikipedia policy WP:Before advises that before nominating an article for AfD the nominator should search for reliable sources, specifically: "The minimum search expected is a Google Books search and a Google News archive search; Google Scholar is suggested for academic subjects." In your nomination of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dick Haugland for deletion you "find nothing substantial about the guy" and claim, in particular, that the subject fails WP:PROF. However a search of Google scholar for this scientist shows a spectacular number of citations in the scientific literature, stunningly above average, which gives a clear pass of WP:Prof#C1. Inadequately researched nominations waste the time of other editors and make Wikipedia look ridiculous. More care in these matters is expected from administrators of Wikipedia than from ordinary roughneck editors like myself. Xxanthippe (talk) 23:12, 23 July 2012 (UTC).

Hello. Actually, WP:BEFORE is a recommendation and not policy and WP:BURDEN, which is policy, puts the onus on those wishing to include material to do the work to keep it. But that's just pure wikilawyering on my part. H-index is actually not a direct indicator of important and is only a rough indicator according to prof. The prof did not appear to meet WP:GNG, WP:BIO, or WP:PROF upon a cursory glance. I actually saved the article from an A7 nomination so apparently I wasn't the only one who came to that conclusion. Had you and the other !voter simply improved the article per the same page that WP:BEFORE is found on, "If you wish for an article to be kept, you can directly improve the article to address the reasons for deletion given in the nomination" then this wouldn't have even been an issue worth arguing. Also, please don't bother coming to my talk page and quoting policies. I'll admit I was wrong, but don't ever think I can't throw policies right back in your face too; you yourself didn't follow policies as I've just outlined. I'm aware of what the policies, essays, and instructions say. Thank you for the reminder though.--v/r - TP 23:27, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for looking into it. I think WP:AMBASSADORS has a toolserver link that can fill my needs. I will email the code owner to see if I can get a response that way. Again, thanks a bunch. 76Strat String da Broke da (talk) 06:33, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Deletion review for Barack Obama on Twitter

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Barack Obama on Twitter. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. LuciferWildCat (talk) 22:09, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Howdy. You closed this AfD as a merge last year. Alas the outcome hasn't been great; a fair bit of information in the [original article has been lost as it's not relevant to Real Madrid C.F., and the other clubs to which the award applies (FIFA Clubs of the 20th Century - plural) have nothing to link. Can I ask (per Wikipedia:Deletion review) if you'd mind my undeleting until a tidier solution can be found ? Cheers - TB (talk) 22:12, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

I trust that you have good reason being an experienced editor and all, but has this award gained anymore notability since the close of the AFD? What do you think of Dantetheperuvian's idea?--v/r - TP 23:16, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
It being a major one-off award from a popular sport's governing body, I'd say it's probably within striking distance of being encyclopedic in an of itself, even if it seems to be oddly under-publicised. That said, I can't see the it ever becoming more than a stub; long-term, it should probably to be bundled up with several similar articles - one-off FIFA awards, 20th-century sporting awards or similar. Short-term, content such as (from Juventus F.C.) "The Torinese side was placed 7th—but the top Italian club—in the FIFA Clubs of the 20th Century selection of 23 December 2000" is the problem I'm addressing. I go ahead and fiddle with things in the next few days. Please do scream if I offend. - TB (talk) 07:04, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for granting the rollback. Ayanosh (talk) 17:28, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Hello, i am having a bit of a problem with huggle, i have downloaded it today and when i try to log in, it says that i do not have required permission for it.Can you please help me out of it.Thanks--Ayanosh (talk) 15:08, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Make sure you followed these directions.--v/r - TP 15:24, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

You closed the merger discussion (was actually an Afd) with a merge, probably since the article didn't have much back then. Since then, I have added a bunch of information to the article (and renamed it to the APA Division of Clinical Neuropsychology per an unopposed suggestion on the talk page). At this point, I personally would vote against a merger, since this division, one of the biggest 3 of the APA, is notable in its own right and the article has enough to substantiate that. But I don't want to arbitrarily take out the tag. Do I reopen the merge discussion, open a new one, or just request you to take out the tag? Churn and change (talk) 16:18, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

I see you've done some substantial work. I would say that in this case, your boldness has improved the article to a point where there is substantial new information to be evaluated in an AFD and the old one is no longer valid. So removing the tag is fine. However, the article has a slight COI/Promotional feel to it. If you are connected to the subject of the article, please be careful to edit in a neutral way and do not use puffery language that gives off the feel of an op-ed.--v/r - TP 17:04, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
I am not associated with the APA in any fashion (other than taking psychology courses), but I see your point. Will look into it. Thanks. Churn and change (talk) 17:41, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Heads up

There's a question about your bot at Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard#Bot issue with template:cratstats?. Doesn't seem important enough to stop that task, but it might be worth a look when you have a chance. --Floquenbeam (talk) 00:03, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

A thousand times thank you!!!

I see that you "saved" Soxred93's edit counter over at Toolserver. I love that tool!! I use it for Wikinews all the time!! I wish I "spoke" SQL.........I do good to goof off with FreeBasic from time to time!! --Bddmagic (talk) 05:01, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Benlisquare's IPBE removed

Hey, TParis. Just so you know, I've removed the IPBE flag you granted to User:Benlisquare a few months ago; the timer you placed on my IPBE tracking page went off, and on checking it looks like he's back home now. Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:25, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

P.S. You're the first person other than me to make use of that page, so thanks :-) Hersfold (t/a/c) 04:26, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Need your help finding the preference

Hello! Can you please help me finding a setting that enables adding and [edit] link to the lead section? What is the preference called? Tari Buttar (talk) 07:19, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Go to "My Preferences" -> "Gadgets" and check "Add an [edit] link for the lead section of a page"--v/r - TP 11:07, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks TParis, one more thing can I have this preference on [http//pa.wikipedia.org]. I mean I didn't see any 'Gadgets' setting there. How it would be available there? I mean can you tell me who made it availabe here on english wiki so I can request that person? Tari Buttar (talk) 01:18, 3 August 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I don't know that.--v/r - TP 02:03, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

Idle curiosity

For some reason I follow your page (we must have talked about something in the past) and I only just now noticed your are a USAF E-5. My mom was as well when she got out back in the late 80s. She started as radio maint. and then switched to tech control. Was wondering what bases you've been stationed at. We were at Hickham when I was little, a transmitter site outside of Andrews (now defunct I believe) and a few of the Nothern California bases. She also went to Osan but I stayed in the states for her year abroad due to security concerns on her part (the year before the Olympics were in Seoul). Feel free to email reply through my profile if you aren't comfortable talking about it here (or to tell me you aren't comforatble answering at all, I would totally understand). Just nifty to run into someone who knows AF stuff. I know a ton of Army and Marine folks, and I was Navy myself briefly. But I never seem to meet AF peeps. CHeers! My RfA

Thank you for participating in my RfA, I really appreciate it.

It's been quite the learning experience, to say the least. I hope to address all the concerns of the opposing comments in the months to come (in other words, I plan to be much more active around these parts). Take care. =) Master&Expert (Talk) 00:11, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

RfA tally

Hi TParis. Looks like TPBot might be down... could you check? 28bytes (talk) 03:01, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

I found the problem. Can you delete Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Receptie123? That should fix the bot.—cyberpower ChatOnline 13:46, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
Ah yeah, I remember that bug. That task stops working if it encounters an RfA without the appropriate support/oppose/neutral sections. I think X! had that on his to-do list to fix; dunno how big of a deal the fix would be. 28bytes (talk) 15:27, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
I fixed the RfA page. Fixing it shouldn't be out of my reach. I've been doing a lot of maintenance assistance and improvements for TPBot.—cyberpower ChatOnline 15:35, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Nomination by non sysops!

Actually someone suggested us to inform some WP:INDIA* admins. But, we have not done so fearing it'll be a WP:CANVAS*. You can see last few posts of this thread. I am interested to learn will it be an inappropriate canvassing if an admin is informed about the nomination (for admin's guidance etc)! --Tito Dutta 13:47, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Footnote * Not formatting error.. Actually I have deliberately not linked, because 1) you already know what are in these pages 2) more importantly, I want to highlight only that link where I want you to click!

Yes and no. If you ask someone to !vote in an RFA or "take a look" with the intention that they vote then yes you are canvassing. However, if you're just asking for advice (admin guidance) then that's not canvassing. Canvassing has more to do with an editor's intentions than anything else. The criteria we use are tools to judging the intentions of the editor since we cannot get into people's heads and they are guidance about what not to do.--v/r - TP 16:16, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks!
I want to ask my candidate a question, can you say if asking own candidate a question okay/allowed? 2) more importantly, is the question too difficult/uncommon since all the question have been asked are talking about possibilities and I am talking about a live issue. Question below

;Additional question from Tito Dutta (Nominator)

14. Live issue: In some Indian (specially regional film articles) some people change the gross of the film unnecessarily (some of those are exceptional claim), but without source. The worst part it they change the amount of profit in every few days (sometimes few hours) from, say, 10 Crore to 20 Crore etc –which is weird almost impossible– always without source. In some film articles I removed unbelievable unsourced gross and added <--DON'T ADD WITHOUT SOURCE --> Very soon I find some people undoing my edits and adding again adding a unsourced (new) gross amount. Most probably they are fans of the films and want to show their likings here in Wikipedia by adding a unbelievable gross amount! Also note, this is not a problem of one editor. I have tried to talk to at least 10 different editors in last few months
Example These are two live issues Example 1, Example 2.
Your opinion/suggestion? I am frankly saying I am very tired after giving a bunch of editors suggestion/warning/notices again and again!
I have not asked still! --Tito Dutta 19:06, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
I've never seen it happen but there is no rule against it. Also, it's sort of a weird question in that there really isn't much an admin could do and even if there was, it's not a controversial admin topic. So his opinion wouldn't really weigh on his candidacy.--v/r - TP 19:14, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay thanks! Better not asking this question! Since they are reverting my edits, I have added a CN tag. --Tito Dutta 19:23, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Edit summary counter

Hey TParis. I was looking at this and comparing it with this. and something doesn't add up. Does the tool count edit summaries which just link to the section? They're not really edit summaries in my mind, as they're automatic when you press "edit" on a section. WormTT(talk) 15:24, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

It only counts article space. That might be where the mix-up lies.--v/r - TP 16:10, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
That still doesn't quite account for it, does it just check for any text in the edit summary area, or does it ignore text between /* */? WormTT(talk) 16:40, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
