In appreciation of your selfless work
The da Vinci Barnstar | ||
Thank you ever so much for your selfless work in responding to my request and generating WP:URFA/2020. All of the editors running all over the Wikipedia trying to find which old FAs need review now have an organized list! Most appreciated, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:37, 20 November 2020 (UTC) |
SD, thanks once again for everything ... this list is already breathing new life in to FAR. Could you have a look at one error found here? Did you put a limit on the N? If so, we mayneed to separately look for any other high Ns. Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:56, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message
Hi, I have found this report EXTREMELY helpful for identifying good drafts that were deleted but should not have been. Like dozens and dozens of them. Would it be possible for you to do a daily report of articles submitted to AFC? Maybe 24 hours after submission, one report of the drafts that were declined (for a quick check that there weren't any unfair declines), and one report of the drafts that remain pending (so editors can more easily identify drafts that might be good and/or drafts that they have the expertise to review)? Thanks, Calliopejen1 (talk) 18:21, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Calliopejen1: Wow, I am surprised. I had thought that G13 Watch is one of the less useful SDZeroBot reports that only turns up trashy pages. Glad to find it's useful. Regarding AFC submitted drafts, there's WP:AFCSORT and its subpages though they don't include text extracts. Maybe I should just add the text extracts there and drop fields like length and date created which are less useful.
- Regarding a daily report of AFC declined drafts, I think that's a good idea! Will look into it. – SD0001 (talk) 16:32, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. FYI, I don't find WP:AFCSORT that helpful for my purposes. My usual goal is to find good-faith editors working on encyclopedic topics, irrespective of category. It is much easier to identify these people/articles based on two sentences of the article than based on the category, because just about every category has tons of COI trash in it.... Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:36, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Calliopejen1 Done User:SDZeroBot/Declined AFCs. Thanks to User:Earwig whose bot does all the hard work to come up with the list of recently declined articles (Template:AFC statistics/declined). My bot merely reads off that list and converts the data to the more human-friendly form. – SD0001 (talk) 06:05, 29 September 2020 (UTC) Oops, I meant User:The Earwig. – SD0001 (talk) 06:07, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- Awesome, thank you! Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:10, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

For User:SDZeroBot/G13 Watch, could you add the pre-deletion page size to the report? This is helpful in reviewing deleted articles; very small articles generally aren't worth looking at (low error rate, and not a great loss if someone has to write it again later). Thanks! Calliopejen1 (talk) 19:45, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
- It's a good idea, but unfortunately not that easy because this task uses a database that would need schema changes. Let me see. – SD0001 (talk) 06:05, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi, User:SDZeroBot/G13 Watch has been showing 0 entries for the past few days, even though things are definitely being deleted on an ongoing basis. Do you know the reason for this? Calliopejen1 (talk) 22:38, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- Calliopejen1, the program appears to have mysteriously stopped working. I restarted it. Since neither me nor the bot is an admin, it relies on a 24x7 running program that grabs the excerpt as soon the G13 nom is made (though the on-wiki edit is done just once a day). For this reason, it's always been a bit unstable. – SD0001 (talk) 04:16, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Calliopejen1 And now G13 Watch is back up, with a size column! Should be more reliable from now on, unlike last time. – SD0001 (talk) 10:12, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
This is a very minor point, SD0001, but it is weird that there are 16 eligible drafts on this page but the "count" is 198 for some reason. Liz Read! Talk! 00:15, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Liz: Ahhh! Looking at the logs it seems the reason is SDZeroBot found 198 eligible pages from the database query, perhaps because it is lagging. All of them but for the 16 had either been edited or deleted within the period by which the database was lagging. – SD0001 (talk) 17:03, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- So, I don't keep creating new threads, SD0001, I'll just add that there was no User:SDZeroBot/G13 soon report today (for Nov. 24, 2020). Probably another bad link getting things stuck? It's still a useful report, even if it is issued hours from now.
- Thanks for answering my question about User:SDZeroBot/G13 eligible. It's remarkably reliable so it was unusual to find an error. Liz Read! Talk! 00:31, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Liz: Should be sorted now. This time someone was using Https://g.co instead of https://g.co, the caps change was tripping up the spam link remover logic in the code. – SD0001 (talk) 05:32, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you, SD0001. I've run into the problem editing some article talk pages, making an edit to the page and the change not going through because an earlier talk page post included a link that was now on the blacklist. No problem when the comment was initially posted, but now unacceptable. Thanks again! Liz Read! Talk! 15:48, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

- SD0001, no User:SDZeroBot/G13 eligible report yesterday or today. It's not as essential as the G13 soon report (which was produced today) as Wikipedia:Database reports/Stale drafts produces the same information as the G13 eligible report. But the database report is generated 8 hours after your G13 eligible report is produced . Thanks and have a good weekend! Liz Read! Talk! 00:24, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

Reviewing edits
Moving my reply github, since it's really more of an on-wiki thing:
Anything I push I take responsibility for, so even for my own sake, I review every edit just like any other edit. Moreover, there are only a few of us entrusted to edit those pages, so to "just rely on trusting the user" would defeat the purpose and, at least IMO, would be preempting the community and bordering on irresponsible. It's trivial to break things for thousands of users, which is why I make an effort not to make notable changes if I can't guarantee to be somewhat available or responsive for a while after.

New Page Patrol December Newsletter
Hello SD0001,
- Year in review
It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

9 | Hughesdarren (talk) | 4,520 | Patrol Page Curation |
10 | Utopes (talk) | 3,958 | Patrol Page Curation |
- Reviewer of the Year
John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.
- NPP Technical Achievement Award
As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Another WP:URFA/2020 favor
Hi, SD0001; I am here to ask another favor for WP:URFA/2020. Some articles have run TFA twice,[1] so I should have asked you to check for the |maindate2 = parameter. Are you able to easily run through and flag any old FAs that have a maindate2 ? If this requires a lot of work, it is not worth it, so don't feel you have to ... but if it's easy, and you can generate a list, I can swap them in. The list is doing what it's supposed to do, so thank you again for that! Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:20, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- @SandyGeorgia: Yeah it's pretty easy: User:SDZeroBot/Featured articles: maindate2. – SD0001 (talk) 20:32, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
- Amazing ... thanks so much, I will swap those in now. Best regards, and thanks again, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:38, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
wikimedia-gadgets
Hi! Regarding the wikimedia-gadgets
organization on GitHub, can you please grant permissions for managing the wikimedia-gadgets/redwarn
repository to the "RedWarn" team under the organization? I've created it so that Ed and I would be able to push into that repository, but as of now, I'm lacking permissions, so I can't set up the mirror hooks.
Aside from that, would it be possible to start a communication channel with the members of the organization? The only method right now seems to be on-wiki, which is generally a timesink (and a hassle). Personally, I'd be interested in a Discord server since it's much more feature-rich than other alternatives, like IRC. We can just link up an IRC channel to such a server for those who don't want to make a Discord account after all. Interested to hear your thoughts on this soon. Happy holidays! Chlod (say hi!) 10:11, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Chlod. I've enabled write access as a base perm for all members, and full admin access for you to redwarn. Regarding a communication channel, yes I'm quite interested in that, though I myself have little experience with Discord/IRC. At a minimum, we should having an on-GitHub discussion venue, but it seems like the only way to set one up is to create a team. I created one called "Org talk", but it seems I have to manually invite every member, which is just a pain. Do you have any better ideas? A Discord channel I guess would be nice to have if you can set one up! – SD0001 (talk) 10:57, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- I've set up a Discord server. I'll add in IRC integration in a bit. Just authenticate yourself there and I'll give you the moderator role. Thanks! Chlod (say hi!) 12:32, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- Done. Had never used Discord before. This is indeed so much cooler than IRC! – SD0001 (talk) 13:26, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

Test Wiki RfA
I am requesting adminship on Test Wikipedia. See my reasoning there, if possible. BlackWidowMovie0 (talk · contribs · moves · rights) 23:00, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hi BlackWidowMovie0. I don't have crat right on testwiki so I can't help you. Since yours is a new account, it's unlikely your request will be accepted. There do exist alternative sites where you can do testing with admin rights. Or if you are familiar with PHP/Docker, you can also set up your own MediaWiki instance. – SD0001 (talk) 12:47, 20 December 2020 (UTC)
Hello, SD0001,
If you check today's report, you'll see that there is some problem with formatting the page. This doesn't happen often (maybe once every few weeks) but I don't know how to fix it or why the bot's posting of the table is skewed. Liz Read! Talk! 00:28, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, SD0001,
- This happened again with today's report, User:SDZeroBot/G13 soon. The only solution I've found is to copy the entire page and copy it into a sandbox and try to reformat it. Is there some solution you can make to how the information is reported to this page so it is more usable? Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 02:46, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
- The formatting seems to straighten out after one deletes style="overflow-wrap: anywhere" from the table code. Liz Read! Talk! 03:05, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Liz: Fixed now. Wasn't sure how to do it before. Turns out this site has all the good info. – SD0001 (talk) 09:24, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
- And also SDZeroBot is now smart enough to automatically handle unclosed ref tags that also mangle up tables. – SD0001 (talk) 10:03, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

Hey, SD0001,
Happy New Year! Once again, there is a problem with formatting the table on this page like there was on User:SDZeroBot/G13 soon before. I don't know why this happens only occasionally. I edited the page to remove the "overflow" command to get the page to be readable but then undid my edit so you could see how the table appears without this change. Liz Read! Category cycles
Hi! Thanks for making the bot that made the lists of category cycles: I find removing them strangely therapeutic... Was just wondering if you'd be open to regenerating the lists, now a few months have passed and quite a few longer ones have hopefully been broken as collateral from the shorter ones. It would be good to see what the scale of the remaining problem is. (A fair few also have been fixed but not removed.) No worries if you can't and no rush if you can! YorkshireLad ✿ (talk) 20:55, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
- @YorkshireLad: Done (User:SDZeroBot/Category cycles). The bot failed to create the pages from 53 onwards due to a random failure, but I suppose that isn't a problem – who has the capacity to digest those massive cycles that would have been there on the page anyway :D – SD0001 (talk) 17:59, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- SD0001, Ha, yes! I've almost exclusively done twos, because there've been enough to be going on with, but it looks like we're approaching the point where I might have to start looking at threes (heaven forbid!). Thanks a lot for running the bot again. YorkshireLad ✿ (talk) 18:05, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Missing reports
Hey, SD0001,
The two reports that I primarily use, G13 soon and G13 eligible, didn't get generated today. I've found that SDZeroBot is very dependable and either the reports are generated on time (typically 00:02 UTC) or not at all. Could you see why they are getting stuck? Sometimes it's a CSD tag or something. Thank you! I hope you had a nice weekend. Liz Read! Talk! 00:23, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Script
Hi SD0001. How does MediaWiki:AFC-add-project-tags.js compare with my script written earlier in terms of functionality? I started sorting drafts recently via my script, and would be interested in your thoughts. --Gryllida (talk) 21:00, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Gryllida:, the key difference is that the MW script is targeted towards people submitting the drfats (the trigger page is linked from {{AfC submission}} template). These are either new users who can't be expected to install user scripts or unregistered folks who can't do that at all.
- User:Gryllida/drafts seems pretty interesting. Do you know how widely this is being used? I've been meaning to make/suggest some new features to the AFCH gadget. Certainly there are some good ideas in here.
- Also you might be interested in MediaWiki:AFC-submit-wizard.js (discussion) – a more thorough attempt at delegating the work of draft classification to the people who wrote them – which may obsolete all draft tagger scripts (i did write one variant of that myself some time back - user:SD0001/draft-sort-burst). – SD0001 (talk) 16:53, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
- Haven't advertised my script, so I suspect perhaps it is used just by me. Thanks for other links and context. Gryllida (talk) 10:06, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Concern regarding Draft:João Agostinho Fernandes
Hello, SD0001. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:João Agostinho Fernandes, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Draft space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for article space.
If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion under CSD G13. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it. You may request userfication of the content if it meets requirements.
If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available here.

Edit request for User:SD0001/deleted-metadata-link.js
Hi. At User:SD0001/deleted-metadata-link.js, can I suggest changing
$('.mw-warning-with-logexcerpt').before(
to
$('.mw-warning-with-logexcerpt:contains("deleted page")').before(
to avoid duplicate additions for pages with multiple notices (a block notice and a deletion notice)? See, eg, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:AngeloHerndon8 (linking with the url to avoid pinging them) - blocked and user page deleted, resulting in two different links to the deleted revisions. On the other hand, the change I suggest would keep the link that it between the two notices, and it might look better to put the link above the first one instead (using $('.mw-warning-with-logexcerpt:first')
). Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 01:09, 19 February 2021 (UTC)
- Done also made a few other changes - this should work on any wiki now and the text now also shows some details about the last edit. – SD0001 (talk) 14:11, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi, SD0001,
I was looking at SDZeroBot's contributions and noticed the other day that one of the helpful tasks the bot does is inform page creators that their work has been nominated for deletion at AFD. Is there any way SDZero could compile a list of nominators who are not posting notices to page creators? I think if it's the same small group of people, it would be worth asking them to start doing this notification which I thought was expected, if not mandatory. Thanks. Liz Read! Hi SD0001. I just declined a speedy on Draft:Sandbox2. IMO this name is confusing and looking through the history this isn't the first time someone has nominated the page for speedy deletion. If it isn't necessary for this page to always be live, then may I suggest nominating it for G7 in between tests? Alternatively, have you considered remaining it to something like Draft:SD0001's Sandbox for Testing Tools (Please do not Delete)? Thanks, FASTILY 00:33, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note. This may not be needed for much longer - let's see. – SD0001 (talk) 19:52, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
Hello, SD0001,
We have a small problem. Because February is 28 days and August has 31 days, the count is off with this list. It jumps from drafts whose last edit was Sept. 3, 2020 to drafts whose last edit was Sept. 7, 2020. We lost three days of reports. Can SDZero Bot run reports for drafts whose last edit was on Sept. 4th, Sept. 5th and Sept. 6th? This would allow AFC reviewers to see upcoming G13 drafts and would allow us to keep up with drafts that expire throughout the day.
This would be my first choice. Otherwise, we will just rely on G13 eligible lists at the end of each day. Because of this 3 day difference, this also resulted in a G13 eligible list of over 500 drafts on Sunday night which was a lot of drafts to process. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 22:31, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Will try to take a look. – SD0001 (talk) 14:19, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, SD0001. If it can't be fixed this time, it's important to note that this will happen again any time the month from six months ago has a different number of days than the current month. Typically, when it's just the difference between 30 days and 31 days, it's not a big deal but it would be nice if the bot was smart enough to deal with this variance. Thanks again. Liz Read! Your draft article, Draft:João Agostinho Fernandes
Hello, SD0001. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "João Agostinho Fernandes".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. If you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 23:32, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Liz: Can you restore this one? He's notable, it's just that I didn't yet add enough for it to be mainspace-ready. – SD0001 (talk) 14:21, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- Done. It's nice to be restoring drafts instead of deleting them. ;-) Liz Read! Talk! 03:00, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
Not a big deal but today's report has this message on it:
Page User:SDZeroBot/Declined AFCs/styles.css has no content.
Not sure what that means. Liz Read! Talk! 00:13, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- fixed. Oof, keep losing track of which templatestyles are being used where. – SD0001 (talk) 05:25, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
- I can understand, your bot is quite active. Liz Read! Talk! 01:31, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
Concern regarding Draft:Gandhian literature
Hello, SD0001. This is a bot-delivered message letting you know that Draft:Gandhian literature, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months.
Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. FireflyBot (talk) 18:02, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

New task?
Hello, SD0001,
Your bot is super busy but I was thinking, since it notifies page creators when their pages are nominated at AFD (and the nominators forget to notify them), is there any way it could also notify page creators of articles or files that have been PROD'd? Most page creators are notified but it would be nice to ensure they were aware if their pages were PROD'd since, in the majority of cases, these pages are deleted.
Also, I was looking at User:SD0001/Bot activity monitor/Report and it states that Firefly Bot hasn't been active but as you can see in the message above, it is posting lots of G13 notices daily.
Thanks again and be well! Liz Read! Talk! 23:08, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- Sounds like a good idea, though I'm too busy atm for writing more bot tasks. Regarding fireflybot that's a configuration error on Wikipedia:Bot_activity_monitor/config which I'll fix. – SD0001 (talk) 09:04, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Rollback granted
Hi SD0001. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! EdJohnston (talk) 03:48, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
Hello, SD0001,
Your report has User:AnomieBOT III as inactive but it posts reports every 6 hours that I check. The report also has User:FireflyBot as inactive but it daily posts notices about imminent G13 stale drafts to draft creators' talk pages. Not sure what is wrong with the code but those are two bots I make use of and you can check their contributions to see whether or not they are active. Liz Read! Talk! 03:10, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
Bot categorisation
I've been thinking about how we can improve record-keeping with a list of active bot tasks, ideally grouped by rough categories (eg archiving/maintaining an admin board, antivandalism, file policy enforcement, etc). I think I read that someone tried to do it manually before but it quickly became unmaintainable. Maybe Wikipedia:Bot activity monitor would be a maintainable way to achieve this?
Some improvements to the config might be a BRFA/task number parameters, and some kind of category parameter along with a list of categories/possible values. Given the list of active flagged bot accounts isn't too high (per User:MajavahBot/Bot status report), it might be feasible to get all active tasks added to it, and have BAG members update it as they approve new tasks. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 11:46, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @ProcrastinatingReader, sorry for the delay in getting to this. As for grouping, I suspect it won't be maintainable since it's one thing that definitely can't be automated. Once this BRFA is done and hopefully Wikipedia:Bot activity monitor gets used by more people, maybe at that time the idea of grouping would be worth revisiting. As for the bot task configs, I was worried there were too many of them :) But yeah, if rest of BAG members and/or bot operators can commit to keeping it updated, I guess it would be ok to add BRFA/task numbers, etc. – SD0001 (talk) 16:19, 11 May 2021 (UTC)

SDZeroBot and non-free content
Hi SD0001. You might want to check or tweak User:SDZeroBot because it keeps adding non-free files to User:SDZeroBot/AfD grid. Non-free content can only be used (i.e. displayed) in the article namespace per WP:NFCC#9 (also WP:UP#Non-free files); so, every time your bot adds one of these files to its username space, another bot (User:JJMC89 bot) run by JJMC89 flags the file for review. I don't no much about bots and I'm not sure how yours is set up, but this seems to be more of a recent problem than not. Perhaps you tweaked something recently that changed the way bot extracts content from articles. You might want to set things up (if possible) to tell the bot not to extract any files that are licensed as non-free content, or you may need to simply manually "remove" the files like is currently being done. At some point though, you're going to need to figure out a way to stop the bot from adding these files. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:43, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly Thanks for the note. I'm familiar with the non-free file policy and had configured the bot to strip all images from the excerpts. But what was happening here was that in your edits [2] [3] [4] the file was being invoked with prefix "İmage:" (notice the dot above I), which somehow MediaWiki treats as valid, but the bot can only recognise the normal "File:" and "Image:" prefixes. All 3 were to the excerpt of the same page (Emil Şahin) which I've edited so the issue shouldn't occur again. – SD0001 (talk) 04:20, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- I think “Image” is an alias for “File” and I don’t know why it was being used in that case, but thank you for sorting things out. Just for reference, the edit #3 was made by another editor who also checks on file related stuff, but they also didn’t change the syntax in the actual article where the file is being used. — Marchjuly (talk) 07:16, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- Yes using
Image
won't cause an issue. Here the article was usingİmage
(note the first character is accented) which I think should be super rare. – SD0001 (talk) 07:35, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Hello, SD0001,
It's been a while since I posted to your talk page because everything these days is working so smoothly! But I thought I'd just let you know that I don't think this particular report is of much use. User:SDZeroBot/G13 soon, which lists upcoming G13s, is used throughout the day & night and User:SDZeroBot/G13 eligible lists any currently eligible drafts that might have been overlooked. But I'm not sure exactly what the G13 Watch is supposed to be used for since it typically lists drafts that have already been deleted. I know that having or not having this report doesn't really affect the work that SDZeroBot does so perhaps it doesn't matter but I thought I'd let you know that I don't think this report is serving much of a purpose. Thanks again for SDZeroBot! Liz Read! Talk! 00:13, 12 June 2021 (UTC)

Unused DYK categories?
Hey, I came accross two DYK categories that I wasn't sure are actually in use and wanted to see if you maybe knew more.
- Category:Closed DYK nominations has 1 page in it. I'd assume that all successful or unsuccessful nominations are closed, so why is there just this page here?
- Category:DYK nominations under review has no pages, other than the template in it.
Would appreciate a ping if you answer. Thanks! Gonnym (talk) 20:34, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Gonnym The history of the first and that of the only page within it makes it clear that this is an unused test from 2013. I see the closed noms are actually categorised in Category:Passed DYK nominations and Category:Failed DYK nominations. As for the second, it's populated by {{DYK reviewing}} so it's expected to be empty most of the time. – SD0001 (talk) 15:00, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello, SD0001,
This category appears on a short list of self-categorized categories which is a category which is categorized to itself. It appears on a database list of category errors. I couldn't see a way to remove it and didn't want to mess with the code on this page so maybe you can find a way to uncategorize the category. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 00:51, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- Just saw the hatnote,
The updates to the database reports can be tracked using a database report! Hence, this category contains itself.

Hey, SD0001,
Another question. I check these unreferenced BLP reports about once a month and tag some articles for BLPPRODs. But this page is now blank! Do you know what has happened? I can't imagine that hundreds of biographies of women that were poorly sourced are now in great condition. It's kind of mystery. Liz Read! Talk! 04:16, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- No idea. This task has always been a bit weird (such as being broken for months and then coming alive on its own without me doing anything!). I don't know if this list was ever correct. – SD0001 (talk) 17:35, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Hello, again SD0001,
It looks like you aren't responding to user talk page messages but I'm going to leave another. This report skipped a day, likely because June is 30 days while December has 31 days. This is a problem whenever a month has a different number of days than the corresponding month six months ago which is most of the time, especially in February. If there is a way you could fix the bot to issue a report for each day of the year, that would make my job and that of the AFC crew much easier since skipping a day means that no one can review drafts expiring today, July 6th, since there is no report for today. Thanks and I hope you do at least read over these messages. Liz Read! Talk! 02:40, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

- I should add that a jerk has been hounding me and going after my technical contributions so I no longer feel like working on bots or scripts. – SD0001 (talk) 04:03, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

SDZeroBot: AfC sorting not updating when backlog is empty
See Wikipedia:AfC sorting/Culture/Media/Video games. I declined the last entry roughly 16hrs ago and the bot has thus far not updated the list again. Is this intentional or does the bot fail to handle empty categorizations properly? IceWelder [✉] 11:41, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yes that's a bug. The bot goes to make an edit only if there is at least 1 remaining item in the topic. – SD0001 (talk) 12:34, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- Do you think that this can be fixed? A fully cleared backlog would be very satisfying to see. IceWelder [✉] 09:44, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
RFUD helper picking random sections to put responses in
Hi SD0001! I have been using RFUD today and noticed that while it correctly restores pages and removes deletion templates, it seems to pick random sections to put the response in? Take, for example, the restoration request of File:AlanRogerCurrie 2020.jpg. Twinkle on Ks Wikipedia
Hello sir, We wanted to get Twinkle on our Ks Wikipedia as it is very much needed there. For that I have taken help from page Wikipedia:Twinkle/Localisation. StubSorter
Hi! I was working on this feature request - briefly, AfC would like to stub-sort articles as they get accepted from drafts. I was able to integrate User:SD0001/StubSorter into the AfC script by modifying it with a couple of hooks, resulting in User:Enterprisey/StubSorter-sandbox.js (comparison link). Most of the diff is just me extracting most of a function into another function. Would it be possible for you to use that as the current version of the script? (Or if you have any better ideas on how to do the integration - right now, as the hooks suggest, I'm calling the StubSorter_activate hook on a <div> in my script's interface, and later calling window.StubSorter_create_edit to generate the page text.) Thanks! Enterprisey (talk!) 08:50, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
- Sounds like a fine integration - I applied your sandbox patch. Having to use
window.StubSorter_create_edit
sounds hacky but I suppose there isn't really a better way. Anyway, this script itself is One Big Hack and should probably be re-written using OOUI or something else that supports dynamic select menus! – SD0001 (talk) 16:29, 9 August 2021 (UTC)
Dark mode switch
Hey there! :) We recently got the dark mode gadget in SqQuote and wanted to have your toggle as a community switch. I created this JS page with your script and it works fine to disable the dark mode (we get a light mode switch on "More") but we can't get it back on. There's no "dark mode switch". The only way to get it back on is through the preferences, by enabling the gadget "manually". What am I doing wrong? - Klein Muçi (talk) 09:30, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
- Tried using it as a personal user script and it works as intended. What should I change to make it so it can be used as a JS gadget page? - Klein Muçi (talk) 09:45, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Klein Muçi You've put the CSS and JS in the same gadget. Due to this, when the JS disables the gadget, naturally the JS itself will no longer load. The workaround is to put the JS in a separate gadget. – SD0001 (talk) 11:49, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! That fixed it. 1 more questions: Can it be made so the switch functionality is part of the dark-mode gadget itself? So we activate the gadget once and we have the functionality to switch between the normal and the dark background without actually turning off the gadget per se? I am aware that what the switch does is turn the gadget on and off by basically changing our preferences so my question doesn't make much sense in that context. I'm asking if we could have the same functionality in a different manner, integrating that functionality in the dark-mode gadget itself. - Klein Muçi (talk) 00:25, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Klein Muçi No, having two gadgets is unavoidable. What I would suggest is calling the gadget containing the JS as the "dark mode" gadget, since that's what users should enable from preferences. The gadget containing the CSS can be stowed to the bottom of the list and called "dark-mode-internal" with a description like "this is switched on/off by the dark mode gadget above. Avoid enabling/disabling this directly." – SD0001 (talk) 06:08, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- I see. Well then, thank you for your help! :) Some time ago we've talked about setting up Twinkle in SqWiki as well. Wanted to let you know that whenever you have some free time, I'd be ready to help in that. No hurry in any kind though. Thanks again for the help! :) - Klein Muçi (talk) 07:31, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

Avoid enabling/disabling this directly." – SD0001 (talk) 06:08, 17 August 2021 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021
Hello SD0001,
Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.
Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.
At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.
There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.
Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Your draft article, Draft:Gandhian literature
Hello, SD0001. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Gandhian literature".
Liz Read! Talk! 19:13, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

HotArticlesBot
Hi @SD0001:, Can you tell me How to subscribe any wikiproject to HotArticlesBot? I ask you this because you are the developer of this Bot. Fade258 (talk) 15:06, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Fade258: the bot has its configuration at User:HotArticlesBot/Config.json. The page can't be directly edited, so please leave an edit request at User talk:HotArticlesBot/Config.json. (By the way, I'm not the developer of this bot, but I have operator access.) – SD0001 (talk) 15:18, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- Ok ! Sorry for my misunderstanding. Fade258 (talk) 15:26, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
Hey, SD0001,
I thought I'd alert you in advance, instead of the day after, that we have a potential day skip coming up at the end of October as the current month is 31 days while April, six months ago, has only 30 days. It looks like when the current month was a day short (as in September/March), not a day extra, SDZeroBot published two reports, 6 April 2021 and 7 April 2021 on September 30 2021 so maybe you have resolved this anomaly in the G13 soon report. Right now, everything has been working great with SDZeroBot so this anticipation might be unnecessary and, if so, I'll just thank you again for your very helpful bot! Liz Read! DYK for A Passage North
On 28 October 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article A Passage North, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that A Passage North, which is shortlisted for the 2021 Booker Prize, is set in the aftermath of the Sri Lankan Civil War? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/A Passage North. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, A Passage North), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

some help required
Hi! I'm hoping you could point me in the right direction on something. I'm trying to write a user script to take a section of WP:Recent additions and spit out the pageviews for each bolded article—i really thought the simple part would be getting a page's wikitext, but that's revealing itself to be a challenge and the user script guides aren't super helpful on this one. Any chance you could help me out? Thanks so much theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/them) 16:55, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Theleekycauldron To get the page's wikitext, you need to use mw:API:Revisions:– SD0001 (talk) 17:09, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
let api = new mw.Api(); let wikitext = (await api.get({ action: 'query', titles: 'Wikipedia:Recent_additions', // Or use mw.config.get('wgPageName') for the current page prop: 'revisions', rvprop: 'content', rvlimit: 1, formatversion: 2, })).query.pages[0].revisions[0].content;
- Or if you want to do this while in editing mode, you could just read it off the textarea with
$('#wpTextbox1').textSelection('getContents')
. This is using the jQuery.textSelection interface. – SD0001 (talk) 17:11, 28 October 2021 (UTC)- Ah, i gotcha—thanks so much! theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/them) 17:29, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
