For the usage, it would be good to say which pages the script can be accessed from. T:TDYK, the article, it's talk page, etc. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:24, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Done, thanks for the suggestion. SD0001 (talk) 12:37, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Request[edit]

Change the line:

talkpage.setAppendText('\n\n{{Did you know nominations/' + Morebits.pageNameNorm + '}}\n');

to

talkpage.setAppendText('\n\n==Did you know nomination==\n{{Did you know nominations/' + Morebits.pageNameNorm + '}}\n');
Rationale

The current code interferes with the addition of page credits by DYKUpdateBot. That bot looks for the first level 2 header, and adds the credit above it; if no level 2 header is found, it appends the credit to the end of the page. When this transclusion is the only post on the talk page, the bot adds the credit below the discussion rather than above (example). This can be resolved by having DYK-helper add its own level two header to the talk page source. Once this change is made, I can edit {{DYK conditions}} so that it no longer adds its own non-bot-readable level 2 header. @SD0001: Wug·a·po·des 21:34, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Wugapodes:  Done. Glad to see that you're sorting this out. Even I've been disappointed with the way talk pages have been looking. I trust that the DYK nom template no longer becomes invisible when the nomination is closed? SD0001 (talk) 18:45, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, SD0001! Lots of DYK regulars appreciate this tool, and if it's stable, you should consider turning it into a gadget so more casual editors can use it. As for your question, they do not become invisible when closed; I'm pretty sure that change was short lived. Wug·a·po·des 00:17, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This script lost my nomination[edit]

I recently tried using this script to make a nomination, but the first time I tried, it failed to fetch a token, and lost the entire nomination I had written out. When I tried a second time (this time having rewritten and backed up my comments) it worked, but overall, if this helper is so finicky that one has to back up their comments before using it, that kind of defeats the purpose of aiding convenience, doesn't it? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 09:11, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I had seen this before I decided to try it out. I wrote 4 hooks for my nom :(((  Bait30  Talk 2 me pls? 07:41, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Twice in a row. I think it's broken :(  Bait30  Talk 2 me pls? 07:52, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Bait30: Sorry. What browser are you using? Do you recall what error message did it give? Looking at the page history of T:DYKT, the script has been used successfully as recently as yesterday. – SD0001 (talk) 08:43, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Sdkb and Bait30: Apologies. In fact, DYK-helper is configured to give you back a filled-in template (which you could use to create the nomination page manually), if the script fails to do it for whatever reason.
But I see that in case of an error due to a temporary loss of connectivity, this wasn't working because of a bug in Twinkle (whose library this script uses). I have filed a patch for that.
Token errors should also get resolved automatically, but seems to be not working. See Twinkle issueSD0001 (talk) 10:38, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Belated note: both issues have been resolved by now. – SD0001 (talk) 06:31, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Add multiple QPQs[edit]

Is it possible to add an option for multiple QPQs to be added when using this script? If I do a multi-hook nomination, then I need to add multiple QPQs. My suggestion would be like how you select multiple article nomination, and then can keep adding articles, if something similar could be done to keep adding QPQs. Would be much appreciated. Links to the reviewed article don't work if they have underscores?[edit]

I'm not 100% sure where this is going wrong, but let me describe what's happening:

  1. I upload a new article (I edit offline) and use DYK-helper to start creating the entry.
  2. I find the article I reviewed in another window, and cut and paste the URL for the template page into the "reviewed" field in DKY-helper.
  3. I trim off the front of the URL, leaving only the part starting with Template:, and the rest of the URL with underscores.
  4. I submit, and get an error.

As a result, the DYK entry is created and linked to the article talk page, but it is not entered into the DYK list. If I do that last step by hand it works fine, so it seems there is nothing actually wrong with the DYK entry.

I think it has to do with the URL format, but I can't be sure.

Hi @Maury Markowitz. re: I submit, and get an error. Do you remember what was the error message? Presence of underscores shouldn't cause any issue. – SD0001 (talk) 16:02, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'll let you know shortly, I have another one on the go... Maury Markowitz (talk) 12:47, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

And of course this time it worked perfectly. Maury Markowitz (talk) 13:09, 20 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An oddity when using the tool with images[edit]

I was using the tool to add a nom for theta pinch. When I first tried it I wanted to select the image at the top of the page. However, the combo of images only included the flags from an infobox at the bottom of the article, none of the images in the body were in the list. I removed the box and tried again and then they all appeared. I then re-added the box.

Any idea why? Maury Markowitz (talk) 17:17, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bug: Loses nomination when edit filter triggered[edit]

I recently tried to submit a DYK nomination that triggered an edit filter warning because of one of its sources. The popup that came up provided the warning and advised to resubmit the edit if I wished to proceed, except that using the DYK helper tool it was impossible to refresh, and also impossible to go back, so I lost the nomination and had to retype everything. This sort of experience is rather frustrating, as if I lack trust in the tool and have to copy my submission before I post it, it removes most of the convenience of using it in the first place. Thus, I'd appreciate if this bug could be resolved. Best, {{u|Sdkb}}talk 06:12, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Sdkb You didn't get the message saying '"Arrgh :( Something bad happened. Your DYK template is provided below, which you can copy and use to create < > manually." ? – SD0001 (talk) 14:07, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, didn't get that message. To replicate the bug, try making a DYK nomination and including as a source a site that the filter identifies as a self-published blog. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 19:26, 19 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I was able to reproduce. This is once again a bug in morebits – I have filed a patch. – SD0001 (talk) 18:08, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
