That Scobee kick was ridiculous. RIDICULOUS. With the Colts my #2 I wasn't happy, but that was impressive. Scobee is also my fantasy kicker so I was OK with his scoring me a bit. Jags and Tampa impressive - and I was thrilled when the Jags kicked the crap out of Cowgirls a couple of weeks ago but tha Titans/Jags MNF game was a travesty. And yet it beat the ALCS even in NY. Of course, I was watching football. This season is nuts. As one of the talking heads said - parity, just another way to say no one is any good. Aren't you a Sox fan, Ed? I don't even know who to like anymore. I can't fathom cheering for any other team in the NFC north - egads. Packers, Lions or Bears? oh my. For moral (read: Twins) reasons, I canNOT cheer a new york team, sorry giants. I'm not a big AFC fan either. Go Atlanta? Meh. Don't think so. Definitely not the 'Aints either. Oregon is amazing. Also behind my favorite sports headline so far this year. "Quack Attack" . I love college football purely because I have no allegiance (Div III for grad and undergrad and neither had football) so I can truly just enjoy games. Except always wanting Bama to lose. Keeps, what about the Rams? Nice to see a team that has sucked for the last 5+ years do well. Hell I was even rooting for Tan's Lions over the Jests the other week. They just squeaked out a win v the Cal Bears, sheesh. Don't like the Saints, never have not sure why. Didn't like them when they were bad (which was pretty much always), so it doesn't seem right to start liking them when they have a couple of good years. Same thought process on the Rams, although they are showing some promise. Agree Star about Bama. I feel the same about Auburn, but couldn't tell you why (because I don't know why). Oregon is just fun to watch, they are so damn quick - appealing to my short attention span nicely. Same reason why I've always (secretly) admired Mark Buehrle - he pitches fast. Ed, wow your Jags almost took one today. Crazy game. Still amazed Giants pulled it out. Keeper, hope your Vikings improve under Frazier but not when Giants out there please. BCS craziness this weekend too. Did not expect Bama to blow that one - and it hurt to be rooting for Bama. Ditto the late Boise Setate loss. My title game thoughts are LSU/Oregon but it's not happening. Nice ties with Ohio State/Michigan State/Wisconsin. Badgers are ridiculous as well. I think that may sum up all of football. I'm so tired of Jeter and his drama. Hope he and Lee sign somewhere soon, don't particularly care if it's the Yankees. I'm so burnt out. Oh and why do I want Auburn to lose? Haven't seen the highlights yet -- I worked all day. Don't be shocked to see Jeter switch to national league. Dodgers, perhaps Giants. Maybe even Braves. He won't be a Yankee, and he's rather untouchable for other AL teams, IMO. I'd have said Dodgers but I don't think so with Joe gone. If it's about money, he won't get what he thinks he's worth from any team unless they want to say fuck you to the Yankees. Yeah, I heard about Keeper's dome when I got up – crazy. How are they even planning to fix it? They'll have to get all the snow off (somehow), rebuild the top, and stretch the pillow over it again... not cheap and definitely not a simple task. Bit of a crazy weekend round my place, for sure. What's funny about the dome is that it isn't the first time it deflated because of heavy snow. Happened the first winter is was constructed, and the next 2 winters as well. Great design, geniuses. There's a very good, snowy reason houses in Minnesota aren't made of fabric (or flat, for that matter). Dummies. Had to dig out my mailbox (literally - it was completely buried, now just the face of it sticking out), and had to go up on my roof to unbury my direcTV receiver, also completely gone into a snow drift (imagine an old man standing on his pitched roof, poking the snow with the handle end of the shovel trying to locate a Dish so he can continue to watch tv, and you'll understand why life insurance sales are usually vigorous in my neck of the woods...). I'd say sorry about the score, but we both know I'm not. Is it time to end the bad TJax experiment? That was just a total offensive fail by the Vikings. I was worried early with the Minnesota monkey on Eli's back. Yikes on digging out. Roof? No thanks. I prefer my feet firmly on the ground. I saw some photos from a friend who is in St. Paul and wow, his SUV was close to hidden. The side by side shots of the Dome are amazing. Is it worth trying to fix? Is it fixable? Nice offer from the Carrier Dome of the panel. I see the desire to celebrate 50 - but maybe it's smart to find somewhere else to play? Don't guess they like Ford Field much. Happy New Year Keeper! – Just to say my annual thanks to you (three years now), and to remind all your talk page watchers that encouraging new editors, as you did for me, is worthwhile. I've managed another scuba GA and have a FL under review right now. I've also made lots of new wiki-friends (mostly among the miscreants like Bishonen, His Excellency Giacomo, and Jack Merridew), and spent time trying to improve accessibility on the 'pedia. I'm now close to retirement, so I guess I'll have even more time to contribute in the future. Next time the cynics remind you of all that's wrong with Wikipedia, just remember that there's an upside too. Here's hoping you have a great 2011! I'm a Big Ten fan (Illinois my favorite for reasons unbeknownst to me - probably because the MN gophers are unfathomably disappointing every year - in every sport. I'm happy for Tanthalas that Detroit pounded their faces in on Sunday and I'm happy to be done with Brett the Jet and I'm looking forward to the Leslie Frazier era, which should be good being that he's a student of one of the most brilliant coaches in modern history. Belated agreed. I'd decided before last week's games that I was rooting for the NFC because a) I'm over the Steelers b) HATE Jets. Not crazy about the packers because I'm tired of St. ARod but yeah, Douchlisberger indeed. Weather here has been awful. When it finally got above 20 we got another foot of snow. 36+ inches for Jan and over 55 so far this winter. January is a record and I'm sure we'll obliterate the winter record too. Last football news for the winter for me - heard an absolutely hilarious idea on the news for financing a new vikes football stadium in the suburbs: add a sin tax to beer sold at Packer loyalist bars and taverns located in Minnesota (there are dozens of them). Minnesotans that like the packers (other than Sconnie transplants, that's understandable) are a special kind of doofus, and they should have to pay more for their booze. We have our priorities, and they are baseball :-) I wouldn't even bother logging in anymore if it wasn't to come visit you. We've renamed the Hrbek bobblehead (http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/08/twins-to-give-away-souvenir-glorifying-blatant-cheating-awful-underhanded-play/) as a "Herbelhead". He actually came up the other day in a consonant discussion. Talking about fantasy drafts and players you can't draft if you can't spell. I'm so antsy for baseball. Nova is surprising me. I find ig amazing that Morneau is still having issues 6ish months later when AAron Rodgers etc. come back a week later. And there's a hockey player too. I think the key difference between Morneau and the others is the coaching/training staff. Twins were doing well without him (actually improved, record wise, two years in a row after he went down), why rush him? Packers on the other hand had NOBODY if they lose Rodgers. Think maybe the docs/trainers face a little front office pressure? I wouldn't put it beneath them to rig a diagnosis. Glad to see Cuddyer getting some fantasy respect, he's SOLID. Give that man an allstar appearance, for the love. My prediction for WS11 is Twins/Braves 1991 rematch. Those Braves look dang good this year if they can get their pitching going, which they will once the humidity kicks in mid-July. I'm panicking a bit up here in snow-ville, we still have a good 6-9 inches of white stuff on the ground, home opener for twins is a week from Wednesday. Field is in good shape - top-notch blankets and underground heating, but the fan areas are pretty trashed. I'm sure they'll get it going in time. Also panicking because I haven't been able to get any tickets as of yet, games are getting limited. Read somewhere that twins payroll is #10 in the league. What I like re: Cuddyer is his multi position eligibility - 1B/3B and OF. So useful when my starter at either position is off/hurt/etc. Very flexibile. I have no actual vote on WS other than media hype. I basically ignored baseball from when football season started so I have no idea. I have no yankees tix yet but it's supposed to be snowing Thurs so yeah, not feeling that. I heard they only just started to repair the pillow dome? Has there been that much more snow this winter since the collapse vs. a std. MN winter? I still can't believe AN:MLB is a blue link - and it got me spammed by that Wiki. Meh. <48 hours. Happy Cari. Its been one of the worst snow years on record for the state, top 5 in total snow depth all time. I hate snow. Always have. Repairs underway at the dome (almost gagged when I heard some local politician blowhard seriously touting the 'job creation' of around 100 or so people that get to help inflate that damn thing. For like 3 months, then back on unemp. Woot.) I think the phils will falter this year. They're aging - and unlike wine and cheese, aging isn't good in baseball. Lots of injuries this year, and they have no depth. Braves win the NL east. Cincie takes central, Giants repeat and Padres nab the wildcard. Although, if you remember from earlier conversations, I don't really follow the NL that well until it matters. As in October. As far as AL playoffs? Twinks (of course) repeat in Central, Angels west, and BoSox east. Don't be surprised to see showalter's O's stealing a lot of games from yanks/tampa/bloods this year. I guess while I was gone the anonymous IP drive-by's were frequent, so a couple of years ago you protected my user talk and user pages. It's quiet because I stopped blabbering around everyone's talkpages probably. At one point, this silly little talkpage experiment toward wiki-stardom had more hits than Jimbos. All with general silliness, which apparently is sorely missing now. All seryus biznus now. I vaguely remember protecting your page, I was tired of watching it pop up on my watchlist, lots of attacks and reverts, and not seeing your retorts to defend yourself, well, I guess it just didn't seem as fun anymore. Figured you were gone for good. And the editor population, all around, is down. I'm sure a stalker can point you to some navel-gazing-sky-is-falling reports about declines in general editorship and adminship. I will say that in general, the articles are good though, I still frequent them often for factchecking, etc, ip-ing a doublespace or spelling error here and there. Rarely log in to actually edit. I did actually start an article (had to get an admin to create it for me) and get it to DYK as an ip, that was a fun experiment. hype is insane. It's April. Right now the Sox are 0-3 and the Os are 3-0. There will be correction. Rays won't be that bad either but I think they lost too much of their talent (and now Longoria on the DL) to be a factor. This series should be good. M&M boys worry me. As I said a couple of threads ago, I can't woe-is-me too much about being a small market team now that our payroll has hit top-10 in the league. However, the key difference to me is that our payroll is large because we farm-grew our boys, coached them and developed them ourselves to be superior players, and then rewarded them financially. That is a far cry from the YankMantra of we need a new __________________(fill in any position here) who would be the most expensive? Let's go buy him. The only thing close to that last year for us was picking up Matt Capps late. I missed the Guerrier implosion, I'll have to find that! Looking forward to the PaleHose getting the same junk from Jesse Crain. Yankee pitching looks, well, horrible. Sorry, Star, but you are about to have an extremely frustrating year losing games 10-7. 1000000000000000000000000000% agreed on NYY pitching. Sadly/luckily (take your pick) that seems to be what a lot of AL pitching looks like so I can see some football-esque scores on the horizon. Neither Hughes (never liked him) nor Colon (used to was) surprised me. I have good hope in Ivan Nova but what I think we're going to need are two long-relief men who can actually hold the other teams scoreless. The only pitchers I have any faith in are CC and Mariano. Everything else is a crapshoot. Will be interesting with this series to see if the HR Derby continues at night as well as in the somewhat warmer weather. NYY home grown: Cano, Jeter, Jorge, Brett (I think?), Nova, Joba, Hughes, Nunez (?I think). This year is exceptionally low but they have grown their talent for a big portion of 96-2000. I think the big name shopping actually hurts in some ways - although you could argue it helped in'09. I don't even think it's a question of outspending - there was some silly money around this year - incl. Guerrier's deal in LA. At least the Yankees mostly spend the money on talent and research good fits - like Swisher, Tex... It's going to be an interesting season. I play fantasy and Mauer is killing me. I think they need to throw out ERA and vatting average week 1 since we know MAuer isn't going to hit .143 over a season. Wondering this morning if Morneau will actually finish a season healthy. You're very right about Jeter - he's got maybe 2 yrs left of fieldwork in him, health wise (don't care how big a contract he signed) before he starts being a really expensive DH when posada retires. Russell Martin was a nice purchase, always liked him in LA. Just glad you didn't get Mr. Minnesota back there behind the mask. That really was a fast game, wasn't it? Kubel is one of the most under-the-radar power hitters out there. He absolutely crushes the ball. Reminds me a ton of McCann down in Atl, he's that good. But he's quiet - and if you look closely, it's because he has a Tourette's like facial tick that, IMO, keeps him off camera. He's one of my perennial faves. 1-3 is about where I expected on this brutal starting road trip. Twinks got a raw deal from the schedule makers this year, starting east coast like that. Oh well. Yeah, something is def wrong in the universe looking at the AL east standings right now, won't last long unfortunately. My wish is that each team plays about .500 against division rivals, which will keep all 5 teams at or around .500/.525 ball, which means the wildcard can come out of the Central. Snow's mostly gone except for snowbank remnants (which are basically just piles of roadsalt and gum wrappers collected over 6 months of tundratic conditions). By season's end, you'll be singing "Posada Who" once you see what Martin can do. He's a gold-glove caliber catcher, all star level offense. He's about your team's only chance at settling down and improving the pitching staff, he def has his hands full with them. If anyone can do it,though, you've got the right guy - outside Mauer or maybe a Molina. Agree with your 9-1-2. Twins have a pitcher's nightmare 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8. Any one of them can sting you. On the plus side, I get to watch the Mess come back from 7-0 down to tie it, only to now be down 10-7. And if the Indians can hold on? Then life is good. AL East is on its head right now. Agree re:classy - As soon as I saw Swisher's (clean) hit, I said out loud - he just broke his leg. You could almost hear the crunch. You were presumably watching YES, I was watching the MN Fox station (which is very well run, by the way - excellent Dick Bremer and HOF-er Bert Blyleven - you should check out a channel 668 game this weekend, tomorrow night's MN homecoming for example - at least in my market DirecTV and others have opened up all channels for game viewing for opening week so you should be able to pick it up). Anywho, Dick and Bert both let out an audible gasp during the live play. The sad thing about T-Nish is that he doesn't get to run on his home field to an assuredly warm welcome by MN fans. Our middle infield once again shaky at best. Hasn't been good since we unloaded Bartlett. JJHardy had potential, but never flowered in MN. Sigh sigh sigh. Glad to be out of the East for a spell. I suppose it could be viewed as a blessing, having another allstar closer waiting in the wings in Matt Capps. He did a nice job tonight (finally). I think people (and by people, I mean fanboys like me) thought Nathan would come back and throw 3-batter 9th innings as if he hadn't missed a full year and surgery later. Too good to be true. He's a team guy, this won't hurt his ego one bit, he's been through worse than this. He'll get his arm going, get some good solid ML innings in the 6th, 7th, 8th, and lean on Capps for a while. All good. Our DH is usually either Thome or Kubel, with Kubel also playing right field and Morneau and Mauer also taking turns on DH. Cuddyer has done everything other than pitch and catch, what, 14 games in? Sheesh that guy impresses me, just needs to get his bat going, his age is starting to show. Cuddyer ranks amongst my all time top 5 baseball players, not just twins. The. guy. can. play. Their pitching is bad, but it seems like their offense is an even bigger problem. I mean, they've scored fewer runs than the Padres (the NL standard for anemia). No excuse for that when you get to use a DH. The injuries have been tough on the Twins, but it looks like they've started making mental mistakes too, which is unusual for a Gardenhire team. On the other hand, it's still early in the season; the Twins do have a lot of talent on paper; and the AL is extremely weak across the board behind Cleveland, so anything could happen. Most people would be hard-pressed NOT to end up at the Mall of America. If only just to gawk at the absolute ridiculousness of its girth. Everything is wonderful here in the summer. Make sure they get outdoors. Do they have a car while here? They should drive to Como Zoo and Conservatory - free admittance, but worth the trek to St Paul. Cool place. Lots of great restaurants within a walk from Target field. Also light-rail transportation to the airport/Mall of America. Cool stops along the way, like Minnehaha Falls. Walker Art Center is cool, as is the Guthrie Theater of course (free tours there), Gold Medal Park is excellent outdoor space with amazing river views and skyline views. Hoping everything is blue-linked, it would be tragic if not. A cool 'local' spot that tourists never find is Psycho Suzy's (or maybe Suzie's?) Motor Lounge - cool bar, great food, river views - but tucked away in a infrequently travelled residential area. Worth googling if they can get transportation there. What is fascinating to me about D-Young, other than he never fully lived up to his top-draft-pick status, is that he was up to bat in the Cleveland game earlier this week, when the game was postponed for rain. Astros beat you to the worst record in baseball. Something to be proud of, no? I'm not even watching the AAA Bad News Bears playing tonight. Don't want the Rays in, they have to pay their dues. Either Sox or Angels would be fine. I'd like to see the Sox, the 'greatest team in major league history' collapse for the LOLs but the Rays don't deserve to be in the post season. What in the world picked up the Colts, chowed down, swallowed, and pushed them out the other end? When I was an undergrad, it was only a 25 minute drive. I lived in Wyoming where (at the time) the drinking age was 19, but once you were 19 you could drink anything you wanted. 25 minutes away was the border with Colorado where (at the time) you could drink 3.2% beer at 18, but had to wait until 21 to drink anything harder. Within a mile of each side of the border there was a bar catering to people from the other state. Too many times to count there were head-on car accidents at 2:00am with drunk freshmen from Wyoming driving home from a night of drinking 3.2% beer in Colorado, and slamming into sophomores and juniors from Colorado driving home from a night of drinking the harder stuff in Wyoming. --Floquenbeam (talk) 23:46, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Lack of WR success is a QB issue but 18 hid the run game issues for years. Freeney and Mathis aren't doing what they used to and their OL still sucks. Football as a whole is a mess this year. Pack are good, Saints have holes. Yes they can master some major offense (colts, giants) but they're feast or famine. This year's Rams' loss - the Seachickens last year. Ed, probably right about the OL but that whole set up in banishing Garrard the week before the season began? Bizarre. I don't care if it's St. Luck or the best QB ever (way too tired for a MOntana/Unitas/Brady/Manning/Elway argument), they weren't winning with no weapons and thrown in the deep end. Del Rio, Haley and Sparano can go have a "holy fucked season" convention. I don't care about the Packers either way - Giants almost knocked them off but I'm tired of the hype. it's worse than Pats in '07. If Saints take the #2, they're lucky because they cannot play outdoor football. 49ers were a nice story but I think they're a blip on the post season roster. If anyone decides they want to win the NFC East, they're going to be an interesting piece of the puzzle. Ditto the Falcons/Lions if they take the wild card. Bears are dead with Hanie and no Forte, and I'd dearly love Teblow and the Broncos to make Brady go off again. Oops missed this. Real life? What's that thing you speak of? There seem to be a total lack of gnomes about. I find more article I stumble on with egregious phrasing, editing. Some times I fic but I check edit history. Some have way too much drama. Somehow, the entire state of Florida played bad enough football to lose their head coaches. Was a bizarre season. Glad my Gmen squeaked in, even happier the Jests are home. Keep - Ponder, Webb or RGIII? Packers are crazy - but is any playoff team not flawed? Oh there's plenty of them in Michigan now... funny how they all come out of the woodwork as soon as the team starts doing good. Eli had a bunch of luck to get into the Prop Bowl over Stafford. We'll have to see if he has an magic left to lift them in the postseason. Packers' offense will go down as one of the best in history, hands down. Only question is if the defense (read: Woodson) can get enough turnovers to slow the opposing offense (because they will give up plenty of yards). Bizarre indeed. Agree on Ben Rat. I was actually hoping for both of them to lose. I think they need to change the rules for that to happen. Tebow hype & media slobber fest need to die. Don't hate the Pats but I wouldn't mind seeing them go down so they can stop with Brady/Belichick can do no wrong - especially since they haven't won a playoff game since then went undefeated. Oh. Wait. Of all the possible combos, if the Giants get that far I'd like Giants/Ravens most. Revenge is in the air. Yep, Giants 100% don't deserve to be there but unlike Dallas/Jets/ATL, for once they took care of business and won when they needed to. I still don't understand that concept. The only possible matchup that I don't think would be good is Saints/Pack v. Tebow since the kid would get blown out of the water and I'm not in favor of bloodbaths. Classic Jekyl and Hyde guy. Just too inconsistent, even by the lowly Twins standards this year. Has a no-hitter while nursing a 9.0+ ERA? Unthinkable. We Scandinavians in the fan base cannot handle that level of uncertainty, and team ownership knew it. :-) Hard to see him go to a division rival though - he always played well in PaleHose territory (that's who he no-hit this year). wp:Rollback got unbundled in early 2008 so you may be remembering that - we give it to people who know the difference between vandalism and edits they just disagree with. We make people wp:Autopatrolled if they create lots of articles (>50) and the risk of one of their articles being incorrectly tagged for deletion by a newpage patroller is greater than the risk of them creating an article that merits deletion. What hasn't much changed is that vandals still need blocking after pretty much the same amount of warning, and I doubt that speedy deletion has changed much either. Yup. But Keeps never went so inactive as to lose his Sysop bit. Keeps, one of the changes here is that if you don't edit at all for yonks, I think two years, the Crats take your bits away, but returnees get them back pretty much on request. 24 hours and a few comments that sound like you know what your doing. However you never went that inactive. so no need to go to the crat board. Wikipedia:Pending changes is a bit like the flagged revisions system that works on DE wiki. Except you only apply it on individual pages and you only use level 1 - the equivalent of semi protection. Confusingly the tool has been deployed with the option to apply pending changes on all edits to an article other than from admins and editors with the reviewer flag, but the consensus is never to use that option and only to use the option that allows anyone to edit, but flags IP and newbie edits for checking by a wp:Reviewer. Another big change is that we are moving from the intrawiki links system to wikidata - a central repository. This will cut editing levels as the next time someone writes the Barack Obama article in one of the forty languages that doesn't yet have that article only the Wikidata database has to change - we don't get another edit on each of the other 250 language versions of Wikipedia. If my memory serves me correctly, I was shot down in a massive onslaught of "shut your pie hole, you daft fool". Whilst I'd agree that we need to be cautious with the block button, I've done a little more than 300 blocks in about four years as an admin, and I like to think my blocking has been pretty uncontentious. But having a drop down menu for something I don't do every day does save me some time, and I like to think that when I do block someone they deserve a pretty quick explanation from me as to why they've been blocked.   • When I used to read RFA talk, that idea got shot down several times. I was for it, and every so often it would get proposed, but most people kept resisting. It was funny because almost all of the early admins (ones that were made admin in '05 or '06) were long gone from Wikipedia and hadn't edited in years. The main idea being, if you weren't active, no reason to leave adminly tools laying about to be picked up or hijacked, especially if they can be easily reclaimed. The Ed is the Ed? You've come along way from your humble beginnings, good sir. :-) I'll read up on some things, but from what I can tell, really not all that much has changed. Same drama, new faces, and some (sadly) missing old faces. I've poked around a bit, and some of my favorite crankster/pranksters/ridiculously good writers seem to have gone by the wayside or are seriously undercontributing - OrangeMarlin, Malleus F, Fritzpoll, Pedro, StarM, Tanthalas39, Moni3, Iridescent....to name but a few. I see that RFA, from what I've read, is still the same mothlight that it's always been. I've always liked T:RFA, and loved hating it at the same time. I haven't yet dared poke in at AN - is that still the same mudfest as always? The only adminny thing I've done is some CSD clear-outs, mostly obscure bands, etc, hoping to sneak through unnoticed (and unreferenced). Has much really changed? Yup, that'd be me. Much different from my days of multiple emoticons and gross myspacing. ;-) Not a whole lot has changed physically. It seems like less people are writing nowadays, but that might be just me. It may also have to do with the tighter referencing requirements too. There's definitely a (slowly) declining number of editors and (faster) admin loss. There's still some old favorites around, but there's also plenty of new-ish faces ... you might have to get to know a few new people. Shocking, I know.

AN isn't too bad anymore, but ANI is still a relative cesspool. NPP is the same thing, different face thanks to WP:Page curation. We should have a WP:Visual editor soon too (thank goodness, a lower bar to allow people to edit). The culture has changed a bit—people are much more wary of the WMF, and there's a lot more money sloshing around for many more people, like the chapters, etc. There's a new big focus on GLAMs. Wikipolitics is still going on, but not just on en.wp, but on the Wikimedia-movement-level ... but I won't go into that unless you want to hear it. Also Wikipedia Review is dead, but there's a replacement in Wikipediocracy, which I won't give my opinion on (considering I just wrote a story on them...).

TL;DR, same physical features, but new ones on the way!, less writers, a few less editors, less active admins, somewhat more cynical culture overall, still many good editors though, much more money. Ed ^{[talk] [majestic titan]} 06:52, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

If you are associated with the organization, than typically it is frowned upon to create a page for your own organization, as that is considered to be advertising/spam. If your organization is notable by wikipedia's standards, than an article might be appropriate, and would probably already exist. Find some verifiable, independent third party sources that tell why your organization is notable, and submit an article request/review to Articles for Creation. Hi,

I saw that you did the edit to remove an old AfD day at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old, here.

The problem is that one of those AfDs did not stay closed.  I have put a Category:Requests for Close on the discussion, but no administrator has responded in 24 hours.

I see that the AfD is not listed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old/Open AfDs.  Looking into the technical side, I found the Mathbot Perl script, but there is a lot of code there to read.

Here is the diff in which Mathbot removed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ryan Ferguson (musician) from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old.  Can you undo that removal, or perhaps undo your removal and allow Mathbot to restore the listing?

I tried to re-add March 7th to the old category - mathbot is a mysterious and frightful little machine....thought better of messing with Mathbot and went and closed the AFD instead as "no consensus" - because there isn't a clear one in my opinion, though it's bordering on a "weak keap". Why did you delete the KillWhitneyDead page?? It says on your deletion page that its because there isnt information about them online. That is untrue there is TONS of info on them on the web. They have 6 albums out and they are one of the biggest bands to come from North Carolina. Plus you deleted their record label Tribunal Records as well for not being notable?? Are you kidding??? Tribunal has been the launching pad of MANY GREAT heavy metal artists. The biggest of all of their signings being a band named Atreyu who DO have a wikipedia page. My, aren't you pleasant. To sum up for you, the article was deleted by community consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Killwhitneydead, based on the discussion. If you believe that the band is notable, find reliable references that say why. Wikipedia isn't in the advertising business, so the band (as well as the record label that you are referring to) must have been written about extensively in other, reliable sources. You can see some of the notability guidelines for inclusion on Wikipedia here. By the way, I'm not convinced that Atreyu is notable either. It may be, I'm not familiar with them personally. The key isn't whether I've heard of them, though, it's whether they've been written about from independent reliable sources like anything else. I don't have a horse in this race at all as far as the outcome, but I happened to notice that your closing statement doesn't really explain your close. You just state that "those making an argument for deleting...the article outweigh those wishing to keep," but that's really not saying anything more than "I decided to close this as 'delete.'" It doesn't explain why you thought the deletion arguments outweighed the keep arguments, or which arguments in particular you found most relevant on either side. postdlf (talk) 20:41, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

In my opinion, a closing editor/admin weighs the arguments given and should refrain from pontificating (no pun intended) about what he/she thinks the outcome should be and why. If I had an opinion, based on wp:policy, about the article, I would have participated in the discussion rather than close it. I didn't, and I still don't. I generally don't put anything as a closing rationale, just "Delete", or "Keep", or whatever other outcome is available based on the discussion (merge, redirect, etc). Closing admins are not required to provide any rationale whatsoever, and too many times have I seen it look like strutting, therefore I rarely do it. Hope that makes sense. I noticed the AFD topic awhile ago, and when I saw it was closed I was curious to see how, but then found your closing statement too generic and opaque to explain the close, which can really be a problem with protracted AFDs of this kind. Participants will be looking for some kind of reassurance that your close wasn't just a supervote or otherwise arbitrary.

Yes, I know you don't have to give a rationale, and I generally don't either when I close AFDs unless the discussion is lengthy, dense, and divided, as was this one. But when you have decided to write a closing statement, it should help explain why you closed the AFD the way you did, by describing in some way your judgment of the discussion and how you weighed the arguments; otherwise you shouldn't have bothered to write anything.

That seems fair enough. I get what you're saying. Honestly, when any debate gets as protracted as this one, it honestly doesn't matter what the 'close' is, a good chunk of editors are going to be unhappy about it. To answer your direct question "what made you decide that the scales nevertheless tipped to deletion", it was the arguments posted multiple times about OR/SYN, the LC guidelines (because of the nature of the conclave and its inherent secrecy, no clear definition for inclusion in a list is possible), as well as Recentism/notnews arguments. They overwhelmed the fact that while the article did cite reliable resources, they were in and of themselves speculative in nature, for the most part. I did say that some of the actual information was probably notable, and should be included in the respective articles for the individual cardinals, etc. Hope that helps. To be honest I am at a bit of a loss. The article published on 10ticks passes all the said Wikipedia guidelines. Containing multiple sources from a variety of different medias, from different countries and many of which are noteable. Further to this when a vote was given on whether to delete or not, the vote was 4 to 2 in favor of keeping. But yet you still felt the need to delete it. Wikipedia is supposed to be a universal encyclopedia, made by the people for the people, changes are based on a democracy. If a vote takes place and the decision is to keep and you delete it, then what are you actually running? What is the point in a vote if you don't take heed of the results? I see you removed speedy del tag, I will take up the issue, probably prod. But I wanted to explain, The article does not state that the unit is notable for any particular reason. I think the fact that it has a history, and to use your words, "has done something of note" - means you agree it might be notable? If it might be notable, it isn't a speedy candidate, and I would personally even contest a prod, especially an article that's been around for years. Granted, it may not end up staying, but it should be brought to a discussion, imo. Not necessarily an afd discussion, but maybe a milhist/talkpage discussion first. Finding sources, if you chooose to do so yourself, may prove difficult being an older mil unit - I recommend you bring the article to the attention of the milhist wikiproject for some dead-tree sources - I believe they (milhist) are still active? You may even be a member. I have no knowledge of military history stuff personally (or interest), so I won't be of much help. And honestly, they may be entirely NN. You say favorite Twinkies fan as if you have lots of them...:-) For the first time in 2 years, the Twinks were over .500 on the season. Of course, it was 2-1. And of course, it is now 2-2 thanks to the O's. Oh, well. Would really appreciate if you could get back to me on why you have deleted 10ticks? It satisfies all wikipedia guidelines for notable having multiple sources from different countries. The result was Keep in favor of 4 to 2, but yet you still delete it and refuse to give an explanation. Inactive admins

I was reading up on the impetus to finally have inactive admins desysopped. The argument against it was always "it does no harm to leave them, why take away their bits, maybe they'll come back." One of the arguments for it (I think I used this) was that if an admin has been away for years, he/she is unlikely to ever return, and if they do, they would have no idea what's going on anyway. 2006 Wikipedia does not really resemble 2013 Wikipedia. I guess what it took was an old admin account being compromised, and it was only a matter of time, with all those dormant accounts lying around. This was amusing. Yeah, I was always a proponent of desysopping inactive admins. I co-proposed something before my own lengthy break of 4+ yrs, got shot down in short order, and I left it alone. Shortly after, I left completely, didn't realize this ever made it out of wp:peren.  :-) Luckily, (dubious, discuss...) Not sure what you're referring to? The policy of not desysopping was around for a long time, and the original inactive admins never returned. I'm talking about the ones from 2005 and earlier who became admin without much discussion. As for we'll never know how many more would've come back, I disagree. If someone was an admin and came back 5 years later, they'd at least ask what's going on if they saw they couldn't block/delete. I hardly think it's likely that there are people who wanted to come back but decided not to because they found out without editing that they weren't admins. Enigma^msg 00:49, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

I'm sincerely so glad to hear it Keeper is doing well - busier in the last 4 years than I ever thought could be considered reasonable, but all good things. It's 18 april and I still have snow in my yard. Lovely indeed. Twinks have scored lots of runs (to date, leading all of baseball in runs per game, walks, and obp - go figure!), but have given up as many it seems. If this team finishes at .500 it would be miraculous and would probably mean some serious underachievement by other AL central teams. Sad. Haven't been to a game yet this year, have a couple lined up though, including my first Astros game. Which we'll probably managed to lose, oh well. Hey Keeper. In keeping (I'm hilarious) with tradition I've replied on your talk page and eschewed that newfangled "pinging" the kids are so enamored with. Thanks for the note on my page. I've been off and on with actual Wikipedia things for the past few years (with an edit counter mostly revealing that I should've gone outside more in 2008), but I do love seeing this talk page get used as the world's weirdest distributed water cooler.

In baseball news, I live in Rhode Island now so I guess I'm supposed to support the Red Sox, or at least hate the Yankees. I did get to a few games at Fenway, which is a cool park. Not sure if it is cool enough to pay 5 dollars for a coke, but pretty cool. The majority of my baseball interest of late has been making skeptical side-eyes at the atlantic, so...not extensive.

Oh, if you're still in the Twin Cities area (zomg WP:OUTING) you should check out Brasa it looks like (and probably is) hipster nonsense but the food is great and it is nice to go to a tapas style place without being fed soggy tortillas between $45 dollar pitchers of Sangria. Hints of vandalism?

Article Italian Fascism is the case in question. I have added sourced material and at the same time removing that which appears twice (tautologies) or or has nothing to do with the article (ex. Aldo Finzi unnecessary bio descriptions that can be read from the relevant WP article) and reorganisation of sections. Furthermore the I added a more neutral tone the section - Relations with the Catholic Church from Cooperation with the Catholic Church which had a certain biased Anti-Catholic edge to it and added a introductory sentence. I wrote about my additions and changes on the talk page without any ensuing discussion/commentary. Still two editors (maybe one and the same) have delated all the work that was put in. I have again reverted it communicated to them my aim of the changes and hope they would join in the discussion, but to no avail. Sorry for troubling! This was not intended as an insult or attack; it was constructive criticism of a perceived error and advice on how to avoid repeating it.

Unlike Keeper76, I didn't engage in name-calling or write an edit summary along the lines of "blah blah". When I arrived at this page, I could have typed a sarcastic message regarding the insufficient prominence of the giant yellow banner with a red heading and blinking "stop" symbol, which you either ignored or disregarded when you edited ITN. I could have condemned your apparent belief that you know better than the community (which, incidentally, rejected the proposed item) and are entitled to bypass its processes whenever you feel like it. I could have engaged in name-calling and mocked your inability to follow simple instructions.

I did none of that. I said "hello", pointed you to an information page, stressed my assumption that you acted in good faith, and thanked you.

Evidently, you took great offense. How dare I question your flawless contributions?! You've been a Wikipedian for eight years, so you must be all-knowing and infallible. What a jerk I was to contact you after you wandered onto the site's most visible page and used a tool with which the community entrusted you to address an egregious omission on the part of the editors who bureaucratically abide by the five pillars instead of deferring to your infinite wisdom.

Clearly, you ascribe a great deal of significance to the act of "blue linking" – to the extent that you regard your non-linked invocation of IAR as materially different.

I could have replied with "Oh, gasp, I've only been here 10 years and participated in the establishment of IAR's current (and longstanding) version. Obviously, I'm grossly ignorant of its magical power to justify any and all edits via a mere mention of its initials and the dismissal of a consensus-driven process as 'instruction creep'."
