OK, I understand about the policies on sources. No further mention will be made to the website in the opener, but having checked my copy of Guiness British Hit Singles I can confirm the original statement is true, to the best of my knowledge. No other act has had more Hits in the UK Top 40 Singles w/o a no. 1. best, Sunil060902 (talk) 11:34, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Would it be OK to quote British Hit Singles and Albums as a source?
- Rationale for Top 40?
- Compromise between Top 10s and Top 75s
- UK's premier TV chart shows did/do show Top 40 chart run-downs, not Top 75s
- best, Sunil060902 (talk) 15:37, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Quick question
First off, great job fixing the citations on the discographies! I have a small question, have you come across an instance where your book outright contradicts EveryHit? ie, EveryHit is found to be wrong (within the Top 40 of course)? I just wanted to see if we could roughly classify EveryHit as an accurate source, and use it at least somewhat confidently. indopug (talk) 13:39, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Conquering myself today
That original version of "The Cutter" kind of sucks. I'm glad the label made them re-record it. WesleyDodds (talk) 21:32, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have the Ocean Rain reissue. Those bonus versions were decent, and the "All You Need Is Love" cover wasn't embarassing. WesleyDodds (talk) 11:34, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Almost forgot: talk to User:Ceoil about Bunnymen sources. He's also quite a nice fellow (except when he's been drinking and ranting on about all the godforsaken cityfolk, but that's par for the course). WesleyDodds (talk) 08:47, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hi JD554, can you give me a few days and I'll see what I can track down. Also, don't pay too much heed to what Dodds says about me; he has this preconception of Irishmen that I just can't shake ;). Whatever, would be great to see some work on the Bunnymen, best of luck with it. Ceoil (talk) 22:33, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Posted a few articles here. Will add more so you might watchlist the page. Hope these are helpful. Ceoil (talk) 23:29, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
- Rock's back pages? Yeah; by far the best muso archive I've found so far. Good old Barney Hoskyns. Ceoil (talk) 23:18, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Have you read Simon Reynolds' Rip It Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984? There's some bits that could be used in the album articles. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:59, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- Which edition do you have? The original British version is longer and has a yellow cover. Personally I think it's good to start with the PIL chapters, take a detour to the Manchester chapter, then read the rest of it in any order you wish. My favorite chapters are the ones devoted to Manchester, the rise of New Pop, goth and "the Big Music", and ZTT (the whole story behind Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Relax" is insanely captivating). WesleyDodds (talk) 10:16, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- The British version obviously has the merit of covering more ground (the American version, for example, combines the goth and "Big Music" chapters and excises entire chapters), but the American version have tighter prose by Reynolds (he's often freewheeling when left to his own devices) and has more momentum when you read it. WesleyDodds (talk) 10:38, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, I'm not sure we have any decent precendents for compilation albums to follow, so you might just want to skip to Echo & the Bunnymen. Of course, you could always try going for the first compilation album GA . . . WesleyDodds (talk) 08:31, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
- The project has never been that formal. Don't mind that. WesleyDodds (talk) 08:14, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Question: are all the Peel sessions releases accounted for? I know for one there's a Strange Fruit CD compilation of Peel sessions by Manchester bands that contains "Handsome Devil". WesleyDodds (talk) 08:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
Can you help add chart information to Disintegration? WesleyDodds (talk) 09:32, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks! WesleyDodds (talk) 20:23, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Quick favor: I need quick confirmation of the UK chart placing of "Live Forever" with your print ref to replace the current not-so-great fan website ref currently used. WesleyDodds (talk) 08:46, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- Question: if I listed The Smiths here, would you pitch out on it? It's the only Top Importance band article left in the project that isn't a GA or FA yet. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:02, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Not sure if you've ever seen it, but the sources list is pretty useful. WesleyDodds (talk) 06:03, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- When it comes to magazine issues, just note any issues with relevant articles, or else you'll quickly go insane if you have a ton of magazines (as I do). Also, Joy Division doesn't come under the project scope since the band ended before alternative rock truly emerged, while contemporaries like The Cure, the Banshees, the Bunnymen, etc. were able to survive the decline of the post-punk movement and became alt-rock. New Order, however, does come under the project scope. WesleyDodds (talk) 08:41, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- It is funny how sometimes it takes a while to define a style of music. Consider that the first use of the phrase "Heavy metal" as a genre term was in 1972, but the first metal albums are considered to have come out in 1968 and 1969. Arguably the two most important metal albums ever, Led Zeppelin IV and Paranoid, came out a year before anyone knew what to call them! WesleyDodds (talk) 09:05, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- I've done quite a bit of research on the origin of not only alternative rock, but the origin of the term. What's interesting (and somewhat annoying) was that through the early eighties instead of a precise genre term, "alternative" was essentially a synonym for "underground music". There's articles I've found from back then that included hip-hop under the "alternative music" banner. It's also really weird when you get to a bit more of a precise use of the term in the late 80s, and to the mainstream press (at least in the United States) the genre pretty much ammounted to "R.E.M. and a bunch of gothy English bands". There's this 1991 Entertainment Weekly article on alternative rock icons that lists four artists: Michael Stipe, Robert Smith, Morrissey, and Dave Gahan. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:25, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- After listening to Southern Death Cult, I can see why people were disappointed by the time The Cult rolled around, even if they were a better hard rock band than other hard rock bands at the time. WesleyDodds (talk) 09:42, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Photos help
I've taken your advice from the peer review I put up and have been looking for a usable image. Seeing as though I was 24 years away from the world when the Panthers last won the league championship I put up a request on a Coventry Blaze forum asking if anyone would be willing to share their photos. I've had a reply from Mark Tredgold saying that I'm free to use a picture of his of the league trophy on condition that he is given a credit. The only problem is he's a professional photographer and, I think, the official Blaze photographer. Would it be wise to use his work and how would I tag his image? Cheers. KimThePanther (talk) 15:24, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Hey
I'm definitely not a professional photographer! Whilst I am the Blaze "official" photographer, you're really more than welcome to use the pic of the trophy if you credit me. I promise not to track you down with a team of lawyers - it's only a photo! ;) Mark. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.32.95.232 (talk) 20:44, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

You asked why we are tagging all articles related to food with the {{WPFOOD}} tag. Please take the to read the preceding post on the project talk page. We are integrating all tags under a single banner, with the sub project listed in side.
Look here for a full explanation.
Currently we are removing the task force banners, Foodservice has been finished and Cheeses is next.

Smiths discography
Hi. Re your revert of my edit to the Smiths discography article - I'm guessing that most people wouldn't know what "Department of Enjoyment" or "Poll Winners EP" were, hence me adding the detail that they were produced by the NME. But whether this is important or not is a matter of opinion, I suppose. MFlet1 (talk) 14:54, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Red Links
Sorry for any disturbance (agf), but you misunderstand the redlinking. I only put red links where there should be an article. For example, "Numa Records" doesn't exist, but there should be an article created for it and a record label elligible (as opposed to a normal word which would go to wikitionary). In the track listings, I link the singles, which should have articles, as there's articles for all Gary Numan singles before 1982. As for the album personnel, most articles have every single member linked regardless of how many times they were linked earlier or if they have articles or not. By redlinking those mentioned above, when articles are created for them eventually, they'll appear normal and we won't have to remember to go back to link them (which is something we forget VERY OFTEN). Let's get ahead of the game, shall we?
BTW, all of this goes for everywhere, not just my Gary Numan album tidy-up spree.
And redlinks are everywhere, so you should just go to every single article on Wikipedia (or at least every single music-related article...good luck) and edit 'em all, not just articles I edit (which you seemingly do). Angry Shoplifter (talk) 08:50, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- I read the Red link and the WTAF pages, and according to them, what I'm doing is just fine. You're missing that they say only redlink articles you intent to create to lists or disambiguation pages. I'm redlinking in albums, not any of those two. They clearly state that they should be added when:
- A new article is needed. When a Wikipedian writes an article, it is common practice to link key topics pertinent to an understanding of the subject, even if those topics don't have an article on Wikipedia yet.
- ...and that they should be added only when relevent to context. I'm clearly following the rules, as I'm redlinking a missing record label, singles, and band personnel at the bottom of that page (especially the first two), which are all linked on other articles when they exist, and (when speaking of Numan albums) will eventually get them. Besides, Gary Numan and his works are largely innactive and ignored on Wikipedia (plus I'm a large fan of him), so I AM considering creating articles for his post-1981 singles. On top of all that, even though they say you're encouraged to create articles for your redlinks even outside disambig. and list pages, they don't say you HAVE TO, and the encouragement is far less than that of those two kinds of pages.
- FYI, I'm going back to redlink what I redlinked on the articles I edited, as I should. Lastly, I'm not telling you what articles you should edit. I'm saying if you're editing at that time to mostly remove redlinks, why just wait around and do that to the articles I edit, when you could easily jump ahead of the game and do that to many other articles, like the Gary Numan ones I didn't tidy yet? DON'T DO THAT TO THE GARY NUMAN ALBUMS, as I'm going to redlink the things that are necessary, but I'm just saying your times and/or reasons for editing is illogical and doesn't get accomplished what you're trying to accomplished as good as you could have. Angry Shoplifter (talk) 21:18, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
- (All of this message is to your past 3 to me, make sure you read every bit so I don't have to repeat myself). Are you blind!? WP:WTAF states lists/disambig stuff in the first sentence, and WP:Redlink states blatantly about lists/disambig being the ony strict WTAF:
- A red link, like this one, signifies a link to a page that does not exist in Wikipedia. Sometimes it is useful in editing article text to create a red link to indicate that a page will be created soon or that an article should be created for the topic because it would be notable and verifiable; however when considering adding red links to lists or disambiguation pages, editors are encouraged to write the article first. Red links should not be created for topics that are unlikely ever to have articles, such as a celebrity's romantic interest (who is not a celebrity in his or her own right) or every chapter in a book. <-- And my links are valid/going have articles.
- And MAKE SURE YOU READ MY SECOND MESSAGE TO YOU THOROUGHLY, which justifies that my redlinking is fine and abbides to the rules, regardless of someone's opinon. As for the session musians, not all of them are mentioned in each article, so it's not easy to determine if they're session or not. But whatever, I guess they could be unlinked, but many articles have all artists linked in "personnel"/"band member" sections regardless of anything. Hence why I said "especially the first two" when I was justifying the redlinking in my second message, which definately are valid to the subject and should be linked. And I don't have to write them, not a single one. Though as stated earlier, I'm considering writing post-1981 single articles.
- Lastly, why the hell are you watching articles that have so many blatant errors and that haven't really been edited by you? How many articles ARE you watching? 273985705479? I only have like 85 or something (and half of them are largely ignored pages).
- I respect your concern over these issues, but you should acknowledge that I'm the only person that's "taking charge" in cleaning up articles like Numan's, and you have to admit that my contributions do help improve them (plus other music article, like ignored bands and albums of other artists), as they were originally in a crappy state, unorganized, INCONSISTANT WITH EACH OTHER, had incorrect links, incorrect genres and opening paragraphs, and had contradictions. Angry Shoplifter (talk) 09:17, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Everything you said has been talked over or responded to by me just fine. Since you're confused, I used caps and bolds so those ideas STAND OUT IN YOUR MIND (LIKE HERE) and so you could see them clearly, not as any shouting or anger simulation. As I said, read my last two messages completely and carefully, and you will see that everything is completely civil. Besides, if there's one or two things that are uncivil, please don't make an issue over it and concentrate on everything else. Now, back to "tidying up for consistancy"... - Hi IllaZilla, I've added my signature to the RfC (hopefully in the right place!). Do I need to provide a written statement?
Also, am I still okay to give warnings for removing the template from The Quakes, or is it best to leave for now until the RfC has finished?--JD554 (talk) 07:58, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Big Brother 2008 (UK) weekly summary
The main article had reached 82k, and 41k was just the summary. Last year the summary was split off after the show finished but with for weeks still to go I could see that one section reaching 60k. Your speedy was a bit harsh - A7 says "to avoid speedy deletion an article does not have to prove that its subject is notable, just give a reasonable indication of why it might be notable", and getting his country's highest honour seems "a reasonable indication of why [he] might be notable", don't you think? I've removed the speedy, but you might need to be a little slower to speedy new articles. (I've got no involvement with this subject, just dropped by to stub-sort it). Fyi, This person is VERY notable. He founded one of the most world renowned charities for cancer and his biography is listed in the UK's Oxford dictionary of national bio's. I'm rating the page 'stub class' and I hope to add more details as time allows Kingkong77 (talk) 10:42, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Hey dude
Hey dude, thanks for the feedbacks. Because this is my first time using wikipedia, so I must have violated the rules. Thanks for informing me directly.

Hi JD554. You are right; I thought the article was about a region (parish churches) rather than a group/software. My mistake and apologies. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 11:13, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Well delete it if you must. I gave a couple of links. I can do more. It already existed as red link in Kingpin with a reference to what it was. As I say it's a low budget magazine but quite entertaining. SmokeyTheCat •TALK• 14:41, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Just letting you know that this RfC has been closed. The conclusion has been listed on the page. Wizardman 19:35, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- Wizardman's warning as an administrator will still be in effect, however, as the dispute is resolved (since the user stopped editing), and there was no other third party input, the conclusion has been modified accordingly. Ncmvocalist (talk) 15:33, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

No no, don't worry I think you might be interested. And I'm bold and tag the elder ;-) Thank you. Sebastian scha. (talk) 14:50, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
No reason to
Ah no, it is rather me being somewhat embarrassed on failing to get my point across or maybe because being or at least appearing grumpy the previous time on this same article may have made it more difficult to ask me directly. So just let me know next time you have any doubt even if I am not yet involved. But it is Friday afternoon here, so have a nice weekend.--Tikiwont (talk) 14:56, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Hello, JD554. There are many simple text logos under public domain. I believe that Image:4.13 Dream.jpg is simple enough to be {{PD-ineligible}} and {{PD-textlogo}}. Could you explain your edit?--OsamaKReply? on my talk page, please 12:07, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

When I said that the artist has multiple recordings, I was referring to the following criterion:
- Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e. an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable).
Magnetic Music, her record label, appears to be notable, although it doesn't have a Wikipedia article. See http://news.google.com/archivesearch?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&tab=wn&q=%22Magnetic+Music%22&sa=N&sugg=d&as_ldate=1999&as_hdate=2005&lnav=d0&ldrange=1884,1990 --Eastmain (talk) 21:54, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
- Also, http://www.hotpress.com/archive/416861.html seems like another argument in favour of notability, even though it is behind a paywall. --Eastmain (talk) 22:05, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
