Welcome to Wikipedia![edit]

Hello Pietaster, welcome to Wikipedia!

I noticed nobody had said hi yet... Hi!

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

Re: Bad Religion - Against the Grain[edit]

I replied to you about the album on my talk page. If you wish to send out a reply, please do so! Alex 101 22:53, 25 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bad Religion - again[edit]

Hi, again! Since you mostly edit on Bad Religion-related articles, are you a fan of them, are they your favorite band or something; just curious. Alex 101 15:48, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see. Wow, OK. Yeah, punk rock is my most favorite genre of all time. Bands I like other than Bad Religion are: The Offspring, Sick Of It All, Black Flag, Life of Agony (they're metal), Ugly Kid Joe (they're metal, too!), Green Day, Sublime, Dead Kennedys and blink-182. You should probably see my list of favorite albums, if interested, talk to you later my friend! Alex 101 18:27, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries[edit]

Hey, I saw the spelling change you made on the Mighty Mighty Bosstones article - it's a good catch. Though in the future, can you enter an Edit Summary so we can quickly see what you did without looking at the diff? --Matt 12:35, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Album Infobox 2 template now deleted[edit]

I've noticed that you're still using the Template:Album_infobox_2 template in album articles you've created. That template has been deleted (after a lengthy discussion/dispute), and references to it now redirect to Template:Album_infobox. You may find it easier to use the simpler Template:Album_infobox when creating articles. Monicasdude 18:43, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New template for your userbox[edit]

Hi, again. Since you like Bad Religion, I think you should try adding Template:User Bad Religion to your userbox. Alex 101 05:24, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Delete Tag[edit]

You should always give a reason why you think an article should be deleted - use {{db|reason}}, instead of plain {{delete}} tag. Deletion tag can be found here Wikipedia:Template messages/Deletion. Keep up the good work (Rohit Singh 20:44, 16 February 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Invitation[edit]

Hi Pietaster. I noticed that you make a bunch of helpful contributions to Wikipedia and Lyriki, so I was hoping you could pop over to LyricWiki.org and check it out and hopefully join our community. I used a bot to fill it up with a really solid base of songs, but there is still a ton of room for improvement.
Hope you like it (sorry for bugging you otherwise)!

Image tagging for Image:Lee Thompson.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Lee Thompson.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Madness[edit]

Well, they are a rock band. The reason I tried to specificy it in the first sentence is because "New Wave"/"ska" looks messy, and simply saying "rock" looks cleaner. The subsequent section then explains further their subgenre relations. For an example, see [[Nirvana (band)}. WesleyDodds 22:57, 30 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He - thanks for all your contributions - but I'm afraid we don't link to lyrics sites unless they specifically have permission from the artists to post the lyrics, as it counts as linking to a copyright violation. Thanks! HawkerTyphoon 17:34, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Would you be intrested in joining a new project I just created? If so, just go directly here. I am also looking for other members who would like to join, even when they like punk rock or that they are just a musician. Alex 02:04, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Advice on uploading images[edit]

Hello!

Thanks for uploading some pictures to Wikipedia. I wanted to make sure you were aware of some of the requirements and good practices for uploaded images.

  • Pick an image name.
When uploading an image, pick a file name that is descriptive, and unique. Remember that many images may be uploaded about the same topic, and remember that names are case sensitive.
  • Source the image.
On the image description page, explain where the image came from. If you created the image yourself, then say so. If it's from the web, give a URL. If it's a screenshot of a movie or game, or a scan from a book, give the title.
  • Provide copyright and license information.
This part is a little bit trickier, but it's very important. The copyright of the image generally belongs to whomever created it.
If it's a photograph you took, or an image you created (modifying an image that already exists doesn't count) in software like Photoshop or GIMP, then you own the copyright. To upload it to Wikipedia, you must agree to license it under the GFDL (which allows anyone to use it, but requires that they give credit to the original author and requires that any further edit to the image be licensed under the GFDL as well) or release it into the public domain (which allows anyone to use it for any purpose without restriction.) Do this by placing an appropriate tag on the image description page, like {{GFDL}} or {{PD-self}}. Be sure to mention that you created the image. If you're using {{PD-self}}, you may also want to use {{NoRightsReserved}}, since there is some dispute as to whether one may grant items into the public domain.
If you didn't create the image, or the copyright somehow belongs to another party (like a screenshot, which you might "create", but the copyright belongs to the author of the movie or video game), then you need to find another tag that describes the copyright status of the image. Images used on Wikipedia need to be free for our use and the use of sites which reproduce our content. This means that images cannot have a restriction such as "only for use by Wikipedia", or "for non-commercial use only", or "for educational use". Images without a free license may be usable in certain articles under fair use, but such a use should be justified on the image description page.
  • Describe the image.
To another reader, the image may not be immediately understood. A caption in an article doesn't explain the image to a visitor who sees it on its image page. Put a brief explanation of what is in the image on the image description page, similar to what you might include in a caption on an article.

Album Chronology[edit]

I see you've been putting in a lot of work and effort in organising the chronology of some bands. It may be helpful to take a quick look at the guidelines for this at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums#Chronology and note that "Only studio albums (usually excluding live albums, compilations, singles and EPs) should be included in the chronology". It is only a guideline, my own personal preference would be for chornologies to include both studio and live albums, but including compilations I think skews the flow of the artists work. EPs are really classified as singles, rather than albums (i.e. they chart on singles charts, not album charts). — Drwhawkfan (talk) 08:54, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that "most wikipedians seem to ignore [that guideline] anyway", I don't ever recall seeing EPs in album chronologies, and very rarely compilations. Perhaps you could raise your concerns about the guideline on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums, that's what it's there for, as we do need to have some consistency across wikipedia, whichever way. — Drwhawkfan (talk) 16:08, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So that's it, is it? You're going to continue to ignore guidelines, refuse to give justification for doing so, and see no reason to submit a proposal for an amendement to the guideline as you see fit? You need to reply here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums#Album chronology in infobox. You may also find this educational, Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)#Dates, and note that for non-US articles dates are usually presented in the format 14 February 1990. — Drwhawkfan (talk) 07:46, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You need to post your reply here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums#Album chronology in infobox, because if the guideline needs changing the people involved in the project need to know the arguments. As for dates, yes, it's no big deal, just something to bear in mind. — Drwhawkfan (talk) 08:13, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I should also add that I think you're doing an excellent job with your contributions. — Drwhawkfan (talk) 11:45, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

How were you able to fix the Project Funk Da World - Craig Mack and Funkdafied - Da Brat entries at the 1994 in music article? I did everything correctly. 209.2.60.98 (talk) 19:05, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The number after rowspan indicates how many albums there are under certain date. If you want to add a new album to the table you also have to change that number. And BTW, please make an account if you want to discuss so people can respond on your own talk page. Pietaster (talk) 19:24, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Succession boxes[edit]

The succession boxes that you're adding to album articles for UK #1s contains a formatting error: The dates in the central box should be separated by a spaced endash as per WP:DASH and not a hyphen. --JD554 (talk) 13:57, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of Accordionists by Last Name[edit]

Nice! Henrydoktorski (talk) 21:57, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that you are adding to both the above articles, either directly or via new discography entries. Which is fine - you may have noticed that I have been doing some 'improvement' work on the Cockney Rebel article. Whichever way I approach this subject, Harley and Cockney Rebel become intertwined and then not again, sometimes in the same sentence ! I would welcome your thoughts as to how to proceed, particularly with regard to listed discography in both / either article. I fear duplication or incompleteness, or both, either way !?! On a slightly separate issue, I see the deletionists are hovering over your new Poetic Justice article. Can you hold them off ? Regards,

Speedy Deletion of Chinese Records in Athletics[edit]

A tag has been placed on Chinese records in athletics, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing no content to the reader. Please note that external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article don't count as content. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this..

The article Dick Cuthell has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

not notable - and also unsourced

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I have nominated Rudeboys inna Ghetto, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rudeboys inna Ghetto. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

New Zealand Athletics records[edit]

FYI: Lists of NZ Athletic records are here. Men's indoor records and women's records only, should be used for the wiki article. Cheers, DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 00:33, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't know they were not recognized by the federation. I took the records from the official IAAF handbook and they are certainly not made up. It's a bit strange that they lack official records for so many events, having some standard instead. Too bad you reverted everything, including valid recognized records. Pietaster (talk) 08:46, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Pietaster, hello DerbyCountyinNZ. I think, we have to decide, what the article is generelly about. In my opinion this article does not have the order to reflect the documents of AthleticsNZ, but first and foremost the best performances of New Zealand's athletes. I can not follow the rules of ANZ to accept a record, especially when ANZ doesn't but IAAF does. I recommend you to remove pietasters edits and delete "maintained by New Zealand's national athletics federation: Athletics New Zealand (ANZ)" in the head of the article. Keep the good work. You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 23:33, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do we still make those achievement tables? Why should the athletics coverage be of one-sentence articles + a table? Geschichte (talk) 12:28, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Have we ever decided to abandon them? I think they are a useful summary of an athlete's career even if some of those competitions are also covered in the prose section. Similar tables are also used in biographies of sportspeople in different disciplines. I couldn't find too much information about this particular athlete so I kept it short but I'll try to write more sentences when creating similar articles if you think it's too little even for a stub. Grace Ebor[edit]

Regarding this edit. I've reverted it and provided an explanation. I saw this earlier myself, but I've reviewed all the relevant official sources and all list Grace Ebor as the lead off runner of the men's 100m relay. Although this looks incorrect, it is possible as Nigeria's fourth runner withdrew due to injury and she may possibly have had to step in! I think this warrants more investigation (this is interesting!) but it's best to list what sources say. SFB 21:36, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've found an image of the relay team celebrating [3]. Definitely not Grace Ebor! The guy on the far left is the extra runner. I'll try to match the face. SFB 21:43, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking into this matter. I honestly don't know who this may be, although the face does look familiar. It is certainly not the hurdler Salim Nurudeen or 400m runner James Godday. Another possibility would be the long jumper, Tunde Suleiman, but I can't find any photos of him. Pietaster (talk) 22:42, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Got it! It was Peter Emelieze (confirmed on personal website too). Took me a while: the cross-race effect had me staring at various black men in green running strips for quite some time! I'll update the IAAF. SFB 17:56, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great job! Pietaster (talk) 18:04, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Event article links[edit]

Hi Pietaster. FYI there is now an easier way to add these kinds of links to articles using the {{AthleticsLink}} template (e.g. like this). Thanks, SFB 20:42, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. I'll be using those from now on. Pietaster (talk) 20:46, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Marija Šestak[edit]

Serbian is not identical to Serbian Cyrillic, please educate yourself... Serbian uses both scripts. I think you already know that but you think that due to the fact that she's Slovenian her name should be in Serbian too. I fixed it, check it out.

Yes, I know the difference. The only reason I reverted your change was because it appeared to have broken the infobox template. It was probably a temporary technical problem though that is now resolved. But thanks for clearing things up in this article, those are some good changes. I only removed the latinica version since this is what we use throughout the article. Pietaster (talk) 20:19, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New "event at championship" categories[edit]

Hi Pietaster. In case you didn't notice on your watchlist, I've been busy the last couple of days building a new category structure. The content of Category:Events at athletics (track and field) competitions has been greatly expanded so we now have things like Category:100 metres at the African Championships in Athletics.

I still need to build the category structure for the Asian Games (and probably for the World Juniors if that keeps expanding), but I think I'll stop for now as all the major ones are done. I think we've needed these for a while now – the article base keeps growing and growing! If you can include these in your future event articles that would be great. Take care! SFB 20:53, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea and nicely done! I'll make sure to always include them. Cheers! Pietaster (talk) 21:33, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of 2000 Asian Athletics Championships – Women's 100 metres hurdles, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: 2000 Asian Athletics Championships – Women's 100 metres hurdles. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 19:49, 15 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Jimmy Nordin[edit]

Hello Pietaster,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Jimmy Nordin for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Bruno Russell (talk) 16:43, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Jimmy Nordin requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organised event, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Bruno Russell (talk) 16:45, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

IAAF World Cup[edit]

Hi Pietaster. Just to let you know, I came across a source[4] which has all the results of the IAAF World Cups and we still have seven missing results articles in Template:IAAF Continental Cup Events. Not sure if it's a competition you're interested in, but saw the source and thought I'd let you know the material is ready if you want to work on it. Cheers! SFB 19:44, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sillyfolkboy. Thanks a lot, that's a useful find and not just for the World Cup. Although the WC is not a special priority for me, I will probably cover those details eventually when I get to a given year (since I tend to work chronologically). If nobody else does it before me that is. All the best! Pietaster (talk) 20:31, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2015 World Athletic Championships[edit]

Hi Pietaster, I'm creating articles of the athletes of the 2015 World Championships in Athletics. I see you're doing the same, and much better than I do! Great, great work!! Before doing double work, are you creating specific pages? Do you want that I continue creating articles (or which not)? Sander.v.Ginkel (Je suis Charlie) 20:23, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sander. Currently I'm mostly expanding the recently created articles about the athletes who competed in Beijing. I don't really mind your creating these since I can always edit them afterwards, but could you maybe try putting a little more information about those athletes when you do so? I think just the date of birth and reference to one competition they participated in is a bit too little even for a stub. Good luck with covering this topic, always good to see here someone interested in athletics! Pietaster (talk) 20:48, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your quick reply! I agree the content of the articles is minimal. As the athletes at the Worlds are the most important athletes, they are by default notable and can be created (see: Wikipedia:Notability (sports)). And what a stub is one or a few sentences of text that, although providing some useful information, is too short to provide encyclopedic coverage (see Wikipedia:Stub). And for a stub there should be minimal 1 reference to the content that is written about the person. My aim is to create most important red links in sports (not only athletics), which could than be easily expanded by others. I know people are willing to expand an article if it exist, but don't have the time to create an article. Because of that I create articles with minimal amount of content, but as much as possible of them. It might become a good discussion to maybe adjust some rules if this it to less. Sander.v.Ginkel (Je suis Charlie) 21:16, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just to be clear, I don't question those athletes notability. And I wasn't citing Wikipedia rules about stubs, it was just my opinion. :) I prefer when even stubs provide the reader with some useful information. I'm just afraid that many of your articles will never become anything more than what they currently are, like this example created back in 2004 or a more recent one from 2011. This is sadly often the case with mass produced stub articles. IMHO red links aren't really that bad, because they tell us what still needs to be done. But that's all just my opinion. I, myself, will probably continue expanding some of your articles, just can't guarantee that about others. Pietaster (talk) 22:25, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I echo Sander's comment on the great work you've done on the biographies for this event. Like Sander, I've been working through the events and creating stubs and it's always great to see the expanded. Thanks! Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 07:15, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Photographer's Barnstar
thanks for the photo you put on Lisa Blamèble article Endo999 (talk) 20:12, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I know picture sleeves are most used and preferred by many users. However, this picture sleeve is from overseas, and The Cars is an American new wave band. I am planning to replace this image with this side label of the US release. Shall I replace it then? If not, I'm thinking about adding it as an extra image and putting both into FFD. --George Ho (talk) 08:07, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest I don't know what is currently preferred in articles about singles; I uploaded this image almost ten years ago (!). I don't think putting a side label serves much purpose when it comes to visual identification though. As far as I'm concerned, I'd use the American picture sleeve if it exists or keep the current one and add caption identifying it as a non-US release. --Pietaster (talk) 14:34, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
What are your criteria for "visual identification"? --George Ho (talk) 19:36, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Take a look at this guideline for non-free content and especially the part: "Cover art: Cover art from various items, for visual identification only in the context of critical commentary of that item (not for identification without critical commentary)." Theoretically all cover art should be accompanied by critical commentary of it, although it rarely is in practice. Still, I don't know how a simple record could be described, except maybe for mentioning the font used? I'm really not the best person to ask for opinion here since I haven't been working on music-related articles for years. Maybe try raising the issue here? Cheers. --Pietaster (talk) 22:24, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I got so many individual FFD nominations, so I'll do so after FFD nominations are closed. I was hoping that you allow me to replace it, but I guess not. A side label is not listed as one of unacceptable items, and WP:NFCCEG ("Guideline examples" section) says that any item not listed in the section may be acceptable... or not. An image of the overseas release itself is not the main topic of the article nor is it covered by sources. NFCC doesn't allow more than one image illustrating the same information; I just ignore all rules by adding an extra image and then selecting one or more images as "Files for discussion" to build a consensus. Of course, I should be careful with influential opponents. In other words, allow me to add the side label as an extra image, so I put the images up as FFD? George Ho (talk) 00:03, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, go ahead. Seems like a good solution. --Pietaster (talk) 17:22, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Nicaraguan steeplechase runners requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and it is not presently under discussion at Categories for discussion, or at disambiguation categories.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. You reverted my edit, stating that the info is in the reference. The reference is here: [5]. What it states is: "There had been faster times of 1:24:50 and 1:24:54 by her compatriots Olimpiada Ivanova and Olga Kaniskina that had not been recognised due to not fulfilling world record ratification requirements concerning the number of international judges present." The text I reverted was "Two record breaking performances, months earlier, by Chegin coached Olimpiada Ivanova and Olga Kaniskina were ignored in the process, ostensibly for judging inadequacy." Do not you find they are crucially different?--Ymblanter (talk) 16:14, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, IMHO both sentences are saying pretty much the same thing. The fact that these athletes are coached by Chegin is not mentioned in the article in question but is in the articles about them. If you have an issue with the wording of the sentence, you may try changing it instead of removing the whole sentence.Pietaster (talk) 19:37, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Moscow1986logo.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Moscow1986logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:03, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I think the best way with athletes who compete for different entities in different competitions is to display them side by side at the beginning as we usually do, e.g. for someone who represents Scotland at the Commonwealth Games and Great Britain everywhere else (e.g. Guy_Learmonth). This to distinguish them from athletes who changed their allegiance to represent a different country in all competitions (e.g. Ramil Guliyev).Pietaster (talk) 16:18, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You reverted my edits correcting the medals in the women's high jump at the 2018 African Championships in Athletics to those supported by the official results but these don't seem to be valid. Just take a look at this article from IAAF and these results which both declare Nonhlanhla Seyama as the winner. She was also called up for the Africa team for the 2018 IAAF Continental Cup together with Hoda Hagras. Finally, take a look at the photo of the medallists; it shows Hagras, Seyama and Ariyat Dibow.

Unfortunately, this edition of the championships was notorious for erroneous results and the official versions can't be trusted in many cases. I'm going to restore my changes now including some of these refs. All the best, Pietaster (talk) 19:18, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mamadou Gueye (sprinter)[edit]

I'm writing up Mamadou Gueye (sprinter) now, and do you agree that IAAF wrongly contributes a 4x400 performance in 2015 to Mamadou Gueye (jumper)? (See [6].) Geschichte (talk) 09:04, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Now that's a complicated case, even Tilastopaja is confused and treats both athletes as a single person (with DOB on 1 April 1986). In the official results PDFs, which are fortunately still up, the jumper has the BIB 495 vs 494 for the sprinter. The 4x400m relay results show 494 as the anchor for both heats and the final which I think proves that it was the sprinter who competed there, as the common sense would suggest anyway. Thanks for bringing this up, I think it would be worth contacting both IAAF and Tilastopaja to correct this mistake. Pietaster (talk) 15:21, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bosnian sprinter[edit]

Dear Pietaster.

Thanks very much for your great contributions to Athletics.

Starting from the Polish article, I have recently created in English the article about the 100 NR holder of Bosnia. He seems he stopped athletics in 2011 or so, and he is the athletic conditioning coach of a known football team in Bosnia.

But as soon, the article was moved to Draft space because “undersourced”. It was not the case, in my point of view, because I put the IAAF Reference and an article of Bosnia 🇧🇦. I do not know who to speak with about this move (I do not agree with, of course).

This sprinter (of 2010) is not very important (he detains the National Records of 100 m, 200 m and 4x100 m), but as a winner of ETCh, I consider that a short article about him would be interesting for (some few) readers. Not only in Polish.

Kind regards.--Arorae (talk) 20:19, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Arorae, thanks for creating the article. I improved it a little bit by adding more information and tidying up the citations. It's usually better to use the citation tool in the tool box when providing references rather than just pasting the link – otherwise the article may look unsourced to a reviewer. You should also try to write a bit more about an athlete to establish their notability, e.g. major competitions they took part in, medals they won, etc. I requested another review, let's hope the article will be accepted this time. Cheers, Pietaster (talk) 20:58, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Arorae: The article has now been approved and moved back into mainspace. If you'd like to write more athlete biographies then Pietaster has set a good example of the style to follow at Nedim Čović. Thanks! SFB 13:46, 17 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Edose Ibadin's IAAF profile says he won a medal here. The link to the results doesn't work. What do you think? Geschichte (talk) 20:15, 29 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That's strange, the results on the IAAF gives an almost completely different line-up than the official results book. The IAAF has the squad as Sikiru Adewale Adeyemi, Shedrack Akpeki, Erayokan Orukpe and Edose Ibadin, while the results book gives Shedrack Akpeki, Samson Oghenewegba Nathaniel, Ifeanyi Emmanuel Ojeli and Chidi Anthony Okezie (only one athlete matches!) Hard to say which source is more reliable, I'll try to look for a video of the event, maybe that will help. Pietaster (talk) 21:53, 29 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so this video's not great quality but at least the bibs of the last three runners for Nigeria match those in the official results so I'd go with that line-up. Pietaster (talk) 20:12, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Pietaster, Thank you for your edits that give the good numbers (and the difference between the starting lists and the actual ones. But some nations that you have added as non-participating, have entered one athlete that finally did not start (DNS) mainly for injury reasons. Ways to improve Athletics at the 1985 Summer Universiade – Men's 1500 metres[edit]

Hello, Pietaster,

Thank you for creating Athletics at the 1985 Summer Universiade – Men's 1500 metres.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Meets the SNG but still needs at least two sources so that information is independently verifiable. As an autopatrolled editor, it is extra important that you do this for all articles you create, as there is little oversight. Could you please add an additional references that verifies the information in the article?

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Insertcleverphrasehere}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Silvio Leonard at the 1979 PanAm Games[edit]

It seems you edited this page to show Leonard's time in the semi-final was 20.64, however, the supplied newspaper reference shows a time of 20.65. The ATFS annual for 1980 also shows 20.65, so maybe the 20.64 is a typo ?

Better source request for File:Smederevo2021logo.png[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete or generic. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact source (such as the web page, or printed document) where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the direct/bare URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. — Ирука13 21:23, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for File:Yecheon2023logo.png[edit]

Thank you. — Ирука13 22:44, 7 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can you add a female who ran for Trinidad and Tobago?[edit]

Hi I represent a Professional Track and Field Athlete who recently retired from running for Trinidad, can you help by adding her to Wikipedia?

Thank you kindly for your consideration! Art M. SAManager (talk) 10:25, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, that depends whether her achievements make her notable for Wikipedia. If they do, I might consider that. Pietaster (talk) 15:06, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also got an inquiry from this user. They didn't specify, but I think the athlete they are referring to is Magnolia Howell, who I believe meets WP:GNG so I wrote the article. Feel free to contribute. --Habst (talk) 19:08, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know. Looks good to me already. Pietaster (talk) 06:07, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

{{db-notice}} left on page[edit]

Hi Pietaster. I was just going through some redirects and I noticed your edit here on Merel Maes. I just thought I’d let you know that in case you’d meant to apply a speedy deletion template to the redirect rather than a {{db-notice}}.

All the best, user:A smart kittenmeow 11:51, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Yes, I meant a speedy deletion template there, fixed now. Pietaster (talk) 16:18, 7 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Now to my question: I can see at Special:Diff/1061694312 that you added the specific relay members to the Athletics at the 1949 Summer International University Sports Week article in 2021. I am wondering where you found this info, as the gbrathletics link does not list individual team members and I couldn't find the full results on Tilastopaja, World Athletics, or a web search. It would be helpful to know because Fred Hammer is being nominated for deletion.

By the way, you might be interested in the fact that I wrote a script that can auto-generate Wikipedia results listings for athletics meetings. It takes a results link like this as input and then it makes wikitables and for each athlete, it looks up the corresponding Wikipedia page with that World Athletics ID (almost all pages have this in wikidata) and then creates the wikilink so e.g. it will always link to Isaiah Harris (athlete) instead of Isaiah Harris the baseball player. This removes the tedious work of going through and disambiguating athletes from tables, I used it to generate these articles (some others too):

Thanks, --Habst (talk) 18:58, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I founded the relay members at Athletics Podium website, which now I've added to the sources. Interesting idea with the script – I might use it in the future, thanks. Pietaster (talk) 05:18, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Articles[edit]

Hi, I see that you to have an interest in sports biography articles. I would kindly ask for any help that you could possiby give to the following articles. Draft:Ragnar Carlsson, Draft:Jonathan Grahn, Draft:Wilma Nielsen, Draft:Matilda Hellqvist and Draft:Joel Bengtsson. Regards.--BabbaQ (talk) 22:04, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, from this group only Ragnar Carlsson and Joel Bengtsson seem to have met notability criteria. I might contribute to these drafts when I have some time. Personally, I'd wait with creating articles for the other three until they achieve more success internationally. Pietaster (talk) 04:30, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
