Welcome to the 2024 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2024 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor you should be able to advance to at least the second round, improving your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close on 31 January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), and Frostly (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from EdgarÆtheling 25 (19:00, 28 December 2023)

Hello, I am wondering how do I divide articles into sections such as Biography, References, etc. Thanks. --EdgarÆtheling 25 (talk) 19:00, 28 December 2023 (UTC)

EdgarÆtheling 25, take a look at Help:Section for information about making sections appear, and MOS:Layout for information about what those sections should be titled! Hope this helps. — ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 05:56, 2 January 2024 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Technical Barnstar
Are you a real person? If so, how do I change the name of a page that I made? I am trying to name it "The Canadian Junior Team" however, it has my user name with the word sandbox. WyattDav2 (talk) 17:04, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. Question from Jorgecita1999 (08:33, 10 January 2024)

How do I get my self on Wikipedia --Jorgecita1999 (talk) 08:33, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

Jorgecita1999, it's not a good idea to write about yourself. See Wikipedia:Autobiography. If you become notable according to Wikipedia's criteria, someone will write about you eventually. — ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 20:07, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

The article Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl and Talk:Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl/GA1 for issues which need to be addressed. @Ezlev Hey, it's been almost a week since you've last edited at all; I've put the GAN on hold for now, so you still have time. I hope you come back so we can finish the work & pass the article! sawyer * he/they * talk 19:41, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Sawyer-mcdonell, I'm on it! Had a busy couple of days but I can put in some work today and tomorrow. — ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 20:07, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
No worries! Just checking in :) sawyer * he/they * talk 20:09, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

The article Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl for comments about the article, and Talk:Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has never appeared on the Main Page as a "Did you know" item, and has not appeared within the last year either as "Today's featured article", or as a bold link under "In the news" or in the "On this day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear at DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On this day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Woo! Thanks Sawyer-mcdonell! — ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 23:20, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from Gm5aug (16:45, 30 January 2024)

Hello. Thanks for being my 'mentor'. I've started work on a page on Dowanvale Free Church of Scotland, which is up for review. I'd appreciate any feedback on it. I am hoping I can be of use as a member and editor of Wikipedia. Michael --Gm5aug (talk) 16:45, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

Gm5aug, thanks for the note! I'll leave a comment on your draft, Draft:Dowanvale Free Church of Scotland. — ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 17:43, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for that. I've removed the bold as you suggest; and am looking for more sources to add credence. Gm5aug (talk) 20:16, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
